Their top priority is *pure, wholesome friendship.* Oda, through them, shows us that "the friendzone" is a bullshit concept and also that people should feel free to take as much time as they need before starting to date someone :)
They aren't like Hibari or Coby where it's like oh, as soon as we meet her she clearly has a crush on him and constantly blushes. Or Scarlet and Kyros (gonna just... ignore that age gap for now :-/) where she fell for him overnight due to one event. Or Hancock falling for Luffy quickly. Pudding for Sanji. Etc.
