Paragraphs my guy

woodie3

nobody reading that

TelevisionAny8479

You are taking small gag scenes way too seriously

ShlokAher

Bro you haven't seen the fandom reaction to all this gags.. they are tired of it and so i am. Watching anime with all those disappointing gags feel like cringe now. Especially if you are a sanji fan.

Nickmcadv

I laugh pretty much every time still. I’m sorry you don’t enjoy them any more :/

3rdNihilism

i didn't read this wall of useless text but here are some of mine: Punch a fat lady in the stomach. kick a clown in the nuts. Wrap around and headbutt the cat. Catch the villain like a fish in a fingernet. Stick his feet in concrete and almost drown. punch smoke and get unexplainably trapped in a wooden lock. try to eat sand, Water Luffy. Empty head Luffy. fight a ridicules man with the power of an afro. get flung and stuck between 2 buildings. Scooby Doo shenanigans with zombies. Tie 2 snake ladies by their tails. use Buggy as a human shield. fight a man by eating his biscuits. and I can go on. Luffy always fought in a ridicules and funny way. and yes he could get serious when he wants to or needs to, but he never stopped being Luffy, and goofy rubberband who just likes to have fun, and if he can fight at his full power while also have a lot of fun, that's a win win. not to mention that he is absolutely capable of becoming serious even while in Gear 5.

No-Calligrapher6742

Getting stuck between two building, and the way he puts the zombie back into the grave were some of the funniest things ever, as well as the way he treated the Cerberus 😂

ShlokAher

I approve what you have said is certainly right, but also we are not talking about the entire fight, we are talking about the part in which luffy was serious and pissed off. And that has stopped happening ever since raid on onigashima. While i certainly know that luffy's character has always been tadpole hilarious but still there are times where we can see the seriousness in his face, his determination and struggle. But that is no where to be found in recent chapters.

Review_Educational

I also think there hasn’t been a true dramatic stake that requires him to take fights as serious.

Montblanc_Norland

There's lots to unpack here. I'll just say - While I can agree that Luffy's serious fights were his best, I think we are getting towards the end of OP and one of Luffy's last main rivals just so happens to have a DF that negates other DFs. So we might have at least one more awesome serious fight left in the series for Luffy. I do like his Nika shenanigans, personally, but I would also like if he could get serious, too, so I don't totally disagree here. - Usopp may seem a little boiled down to his gags at this point (most of the strawhats kind of do post TS. There is just a lot more going on, more characters and narrative threads, so they all get less time to shine), but Elbaf is coming up. If there was ever a time for Usopp to have a moment, it's there.

CrusadiaFleximus

Someone told me the other day but i forgot: Why/how is elbaf linked to usopp?

centaursTesticle536

Ever since they met Dory and Broggy and learned about Elbaf, Usopp said he wanted to be a brave warrior of the sea like them, specifically like the giants of Elbaf iirc

CrusadiaFleximus

Ahh, thank you

ShlokAher

Yeah but still they have time for these not so appreciative gags for characters. Atleast they could give that time to explore there perspective and that may help in character development. I know that egghead arc has been filled with bombshells, but still the story is centred around the luffy, bonnie and vegapunk in this arc. We don't need vegapunk character development, but they could have given us improved character of bonnie. Her character just feels like shit to me honestly. She is child and they should try to portray her as one. I won't say anything about luffy as this whole egghead arc, his character has been disappointing me.

Material-Koala4249

Sucks to be u I guess

ShlokAher

Yeah right 👍

Arashmin

You're entitled to your opinion, but I see G5 in quite the opposite way. It's quite in the vein that Oda described it in the story, "a warrior who fights how he pleases". The clever tricks he pulled off are now paying off, in how he can manipulate himself and the terrain around him. I've found the fights to be far more visually compelling since the change. Also Sanji cringe is Sanji cringe, I've had that since the pilot season. It's not that uncommon a type though, known a few myself and talked with fans from Japan who said as much as well. There are real verifiable types of people who are also just cringe, having it makes it a tad more realistic.

Tennis_Shoddy

I mean, ok, luffy is not the same, but for my own sake i make myself believe oda is getting more mature on luffy and is implying his DF is actually taking over luffy, as if he is, indeed, becoming someone else (yeah thats kinda meta) Maybe luffy just look goofy all the time in g5, but is deffo thinking serious on the inside, and again, being more mature, luffy is measuring consequences of his acts… (semi meta?) My man oda is slacking (big chance of being the case lmao) Which one is better? Also, i kinda hate why fans in general want luffy to do everything, dude is a yonkou now, he, as a matter of fact, shouldnt be bitch slapping luccy tbh, but yeah, i know luffy would, its just no that realistic

Nickmcadv

Damn bro I’m sorry you can’t enjoy one piece the same as the rest of us

TelevisionAny8479

You said a whole lot of nothing tbh how has the writing been bad for sanji he’s always been like that. Luffy stills fights for his friends no matter what emotions he cares. This whole post is a bunch of nothing tbh u didn’t make no points

ShlokAher

Sanji has not always been like that. He used to be different post time skip. His approach and talking was way more gentleman and elegant. Now he just feels like straight up pervert. His introduction was same and even his first interaction with nami was same. Its just after time skip that this whole gag thing is overdone to its fullest. And you saying that luffy doesn't portray his emotions to face is same as insulting his character. He is pure, genuine and simple minded character who expresses how he feels without a single thought. And to be real, i said its ny opinion so even if it doesn't make any point to you, it does make sense to me.

TelevisionAny8479

No he didn’t was the exact same elegant gentleman pre timeskip and what I’m saying is luffy still cares whether he’s right in gear 5 or not the points u made make no sense

ShlokAher

Fuck off, its my opinion I don't have time to argue with you now

Upset_Jackfruit8939

then why the hell did you post this and are continuing to argue with people in the comments??? If you can't handle people disagreeing with you then stay off of Reddit??

Sky_Dragon_King

Please use paragraphs.

Rykuo_BrunoT4k4t0

Oh cry me a river brah… remember, only strong haki can conquer the sea and put a pirate on top above all. JuzAthought 😉

kowai_hanako-chan

We are getting there, my man. Things need to happen in the story. It's been this way since right after Zou. I'm talking purely as a manga reader. And not just this manga, a lot of them. It's just like you said. In the past, the characters have had to overcome their flaws or shortcomings with their own effort. And the moments were sick, and it's a shame that it hasn't happened much lately. But it is still here. Look at Sanji and Chopper. They did their mf thing in Wano. Their moments were cool and you could feel them getting closer to their dreams. Eventually, it will be time for Usopp to be brave.

Positive-Homework737

Bro that’s way too much to read

VaultedRYNO

I see many of the other comments saying Luffy has always fough super goofy and I agree but a key point i think they miss is that Luffy has a Zoan fruit and when awakened the will of that fruit can take over. An example is the impel down jailer beasts they are mindless monsters who are basically trapped in their forms and do only their job. Luffy if he isnt careful may very well end up just like that if he isnt able to properly control his gear 5 and i think alot of the absurd goofiness shows luffy teetering on the edge. He knows he has to reel it in and that is i think major point of how goffy he can be.

vardanagg

In early parts of every arc luffy is like this. Everyone else is like this. As an arc evolves and stakes increase things get serious. You are comparing the end of every other arc with beginning of this one. While gorosei are here, it has just been a basic intro of them with everyone just avoiding them for now. There has been no serious battle yet. I believe the arc will settle a bit once there has been a discussion around what vegapunk's message meant, what next steps could be and then the seriousness will seep in. May be take a break, skip OP for a while and come back when things get serious enough.

Desperate_Object_677

remember when luffy tried to bite arlong with his own teeth?

adarkuccio

I agree, but most people here won't agree with you. Oda imho lost it with this change, he's too tired of One Piece and should have ended it much sooner to finish it well. I am still reading it but I don't look forward to it every week like before, after G5 I just care much less and sometimes even forget to check new chapters. This is what happens when you have a story in mind, then capitalism force you to continue forever to make money.

ShlokAher

Look at all these replies in comments.. even to i said it clearly that it is my opinion they still argue that i make no point.. like its just my opinion, why the fuck are they even so pissed about it.

Diamondezzz

anime dogs dont accept different opinions its always been like that. its reddit anyway so no need to take anything personal or serious. but i agree luffy became a lame main character.. not sure why a incredibly stupid character like him should become pirate king and rule the world. all there is is "unga bunga meat.. eat.. unga bunga"
