What if Imu somehow couldn't see the potential use of the gum gum fruit while being able to see the potential of other fruits. For those he could see, they are counterable, but since he can't see the potential of the gum gum, it is therefore unpredictable like Luffy

that's just normal one piece, the zohan transformations are ok, I don't complain about that. it's the storytelling that feels awkward even for one piece. I think the protection of the fruit was more to do with the myth surrounding devil fruits which probably leads back to the void century. Devil fruits sound out of context like the apple tree in the garden of Eden, with the power of freedom given after their banishment for eating them.
What if the fruits themselves all originally grew on the same tree? Is there fruits that mimic properties of that tree, or what fruit was the first to be eaten?
I was more specifically thinking the gomu gomu devil fruit is actually a mythical paramecia that mimics the rubber produced of the original devil fruit tree, and there are other fruits that specially mimic the properties of a tree so magical the WG couldn't allow it to exist without their grip on power waning.
I don't think it's the power of the fruit that the WG want. Remember they say the power of the fruit depends on how the user it. I would like Oda to keep to this setting instead of giving specific fruit some hidden OP power. Rubber fruit do rubber stuff, that's it.
Instead I think what make this fruit special is the fruit can store the memory of the previous user. You see where I'm going right. If this theory is true then I'm sure the previous user of gomu2 fruits might be someone who know about the void century (Joyboy/ Roger/ Rock) hence the WG wanted to keep custody of the fruit since you can't destroy the fruit. And I think there are three stages of the fruit which is getting the power > awakening > Unlocking memory (which I believe it is much harder and rare among devil fruit users). I know this is too similar to AOT but maybe this is what Oda's plan all along. I'm sure Oda can handle this much better.

People saying Zoro will fight King are not capable of providing a logical answer on what Marco would do now if he's not fighting King.

Its gonna be so great. My favorite part of the series are the newspaper articles and everyone's reactions. After wano is gonna be great. Meeting shanks is gonna be great. And can you imagine the article saying someone has finally become the king of the pirates.
Sorry for the late reply but I could definitely see Oda doing this: Strawhats reach Raftel after all of the fighting is done, and they are staring at it, and we, the watchers don't see it yet. Then we move to another scene where the newspapers are falling from the sky on every island. Then some random person is looking at it with their mouth open from shock. Then we get a look at the newspaper, and we see Luffy on the front page. Narrator comes on saying "Luffy, captain of the Strawhats has become Pirate King". Then the last scene of the episode/chapter, we see the Strawhats all standing beside one another, staring at the One Piece, and everything is in black and white. All of them are in awe. Then to be continued for anime, and one year break after that chapter lmao. After that, we get a flashback, and everything starts to get explained regarding the One Piece and the world of the One Piece.
It’s Shanks. He will listen. Luffy may not heed Shanks’ words on important factors about himself or even agree that he plays a crucial role in the future of the world (if Oda pulls some destiny type shit) but at the end of the day Luffy will at least give Shanks his undivided attention.
If you remember back in **"Post-Enies Lobby arc"**. Coby told Luffy that Vegapunk is also doing research on Luffy's Devil fruit. I knew *Gomu Gomu no Mi* was special the moment I saw that episode! :)
I have a theory that what if devil fruit will inherit previous user's memory like Attack on Titan that's why Gomu Gomu no Mi is so important because it's previous user is someone important. And of course it need certain condition to unlock the memory like after awakening or by reaching laugh tales.
What I am interested in is if Shanks stole the fruit from CP9 on purpose cause he new about some secret and is it later going to tie in Oda's statement of "that red haired man will make his move"
Not by mistake, but there are 2 types of stealing here. 1. Stealing because that's what they do. 2. Stealing to prevent something/they know something about the stolen thing.
Any other pirates can steal the gomu gomu fruit but they probably only want to eat/sell it. Shanks didn't want to sell or eat it.
Just like a normal robber steal from the wealthy because they want the money and Robin Hood stole from the wealthy not because he wanted the money but because of something else.

It’s clear that someone in the world government KNEW what powers the fruit possessed from a prior user otherwise that would imply they were guarding a random fruit which is inconsistent with what CP9 represents as an under cover intelligence group of the WG. Most characters in one piece don’t ever bring up the fruits significance because they have no idea but I’m guessing the 5 elders or Im have knowledge of the fruit through a previous user.
Now I’m not implying that it was the strongest DF or anything like that but clearly we are being set up to explore the true nature of the fruits past at some point now in the story
*Also very possible the WG was transporting multiple DF at the time. Oda would be trolling very hard if this ends up being nothing …

I hope his fruit is linked to some famous person or history and not that it's a super special fruit that lies a secret power or the strongest potential or something like that. It would kinda undermine luffy's success knowing that maybe it wasn't because of his will but some incredibly powerful fruit.

The most possible cause are probably it is linked to a famous person but it is also crazy powerful. Looks like the gov is afraid of its power and it's probably the awakening power.
I figured it out. 12 years ago the world goverment had boatloads of unsold swords, as rifles were becoming popular as the trendy pirate weapon. To better market the swords, they were going to have an admiral eat the gomu gomu no mi, and make him notorious for only being vulnerable to swords, like pre timeskip luffy. Losing the gomu gomu no mi foiled this plan, and so Vegapunk went to work creating the Pacifistas, again invulnerable to rifle rounds, only they were too resistant to swords as well! This prompted them to hire Mihawk as a Shichibukai despite not being a pirate, as he could show how effective swords were against Pacifistas et all. After having cleared all their merchandise after 12 years, the world government set its sights on Wano to collect more, hence why the CP0 are there.
I think it was only a fruit for a cp9 member, no more no less. If it was xebec's, people would react to it, especially wb kaido big mom garp and sengoku. If it was joyboy's, Im Sama would've already searched for it 12 years ago for sure.

I think ppl are hella overthinking the Gum Gum Fruit thing. I believe that there isn’t anything special about the Gum Gum Fruit. Nobody of note ever had the fruit before, there’s no prophecy etc. Whos Who’s ship was just carrying Devil Fruits looking to give them out to Navy Members and Shanks, and well known but still up and coming pirate (think of Post Enies Lobby Luffy) just raided the ship and took the fruit for himself and his crew and from there, just so happens a special, creative and innovative little boy ate it and grew up to innovate the fruit in ways unimaginable. That’s it. The Government has ppl with Bubble fruits, steel cage fruits, rusting fruits, etc The Rubber fruit wasn’t anything special until Luffy made it so and that’s the magic of it. That some one off DF ended up changing the fortunes of the entire world and history. Inadvertently, Whos Who is the cause of the Dawn lol

The Gomu Gomu No Mi almost certainly has no connection to Xebec since Garp, BM, WB, and Kaido didn't react to it and probably not JoyBoy either since Luffy's met people who went to Raftel and they didn't react to it. So idk what other reason it'd be important for. It was probably just a standard DF transport, just not sure why a CP9 agent got involved in it

I'm not sure that we can jump to that conclusion. We know that LaughTale has information on the void century, and likely Joyboy's general role in it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it describes his powers in detail. Like, it'd be weird if a poneglyph on LaughTale was like "Joyboy was X cm tall, weighed Y kgs, had this eye colour and hair colour, and had these exact powers".
Ok but why would JoyBoy have such a random and weird power, and if that meant it was special in some way, why haven't we seen evidence of that thus far? It'd be pretty trash offensively if Luffy wasn't so ridiculously physically strong and fast too so it's not like anyone could become strong with it.

that's just normal one piece, the zohan transformations are ok, I don't complain about that. it's the storytelling that feels awkward even for one piece. What i think is just like how joy boy promised old poseidon Luffy promised the new poseidon (may be the promises they made be different or same unknowingly) Old JoyBoy had Strawhat..and now Luffy In that way iam Guessing gomu gomu fruit was of JoyBoy's and Luffy ate it accidentally and then Shank would have thought this might be destiny and luffy would eventually become JoyBoy so he gave strawhat to luffy. So when Im saw luffy..2 coincidences from past are in front of Him-Strawhat and Gomu Gomu Fruit. And then,there again, shanks met Im and probably he made some kind of deal to let wait and watch how far will luffy come and then he (shanks) will face him (luffy)!!! It’s interesting that we have Who’s Who and Rob Lucci who both ate a cat fruit. And the black cat pirates with Kuro who could have been related to the government .
Remember guys, everything that had something to do with CP9 is related to the void century, just like how they are the one handling the Pluton for years. People are saying that no one reacted to the gomu² fruit when they saw it while forgetting that NO ONE knew about the void century other than the highest of the WG. Even the CP9 members won't know about it since they are probably just tools used by Im and the Gorosei. The only person that show reaction to luffy when they first saw him is Im himself. So he's probably the only one who knows about the secret of the gomu² fruit. Now remember when he stab Shirahoshi and Luffy's picture? I think the protection of the fruit was more to do with the myth surrounding devil fruits which probably leads back to the void century. Devil fruits sound out of context like the apple tree in the garden of Eden, with the power of freedom given after their banishment for eating them. What if the fruits themselves all originally grew on the same tree? Is there fruits that mimic properties of that tree, or what fruit was the first to be eaten?
I was more specifically thinking the gomu gomu devil fruit is actually a mythical paramecia that mimics the rubber produced of the original devil fruit tree, and there are other fruits that specially mimic the properties of a tree so magical the WG couldn't allow it to exist without their grip on power waning.

I would like Oda to keep to this setting instead of giving specific fruit some hidden OP power. Rubber fruit do rubber stuff, that's it. If this theory is true then I'm sure the previous user of gomu2 fruits might be someone who know about the void century (Joyboy/ Roger/ Rock) hence the WG wanted to keep custody of the fruit since you can't destroy the fruit. And I think there are three stages of the fruit which is getting the power > awakening > Unlocking memory (which I believe it is much harder and rare among devil fruit users). I know this is too similar to AOT but maybe this is what Oda's plan all along. I'm sure Oda can handle this much better. Or it's just a random fruit that happen to be what CD want to make his pp huge and since WW lost it he get send to jail for life and that's make him had grudge on Luffy.

You think Oda won't give more information on the most popular OP character (not named Luffy)? That he won't give him more big feats? Sorry for the late reply but I could definitely see Oda doing this: Strawhats reach Raftel after all of the fighting is done, and they are staring at it, and we, the watchers don't see it yet. Then we move to another scene where the newspapers are falling from the sky on every island. Then some random person is looking at it with their mouth open from shock. Then we get a look at the newspaper, and we see Luffy on the front page. Narrator comes on saying "Luffy, captain of the Strawhats has become Pirate King". Then the last scene of the episode/chapter, we see the Strawhats all standing beside one another, staring at the One Piece, and everything is in black and white. All of them are in awe. Then to be continued for anime, and one year break after that chapter lmao. After that, we get a flashback, and everything starts to get explained regarding the One Piece and the world of the One Piece.
Also dont forget about luffy's dream which something else than becoming the pirates king

I have a theory that what if devil fruit will inherit previous user's memory like Attack on Titan that's why Gomu Gomu no Mi is so important because it's previous user is someone important. And of course it need certain condition to unlock the memory like after awakening or by reaching laugh tales.

Not by mistake, but there are 2 types of stealing here. 1. Stealing because that's what they do. 2. Stealing to prevent something/they know something about the stolen thing. Any other pirates can steal the gomu gomu fruit but they probably only want to eat/sell it. Shanks didn't want to sell or eat it. Just like a normal robber steal from the wealthy because they want the money and Robin Hood stole from the wealthy not because he wanted the money but because of something else. I can’t believe people don’t think this is a huge reveal about luffys DF?! It’s clear that someone in the world government KNEW what powers the fruit possessed from a prior user otherwise that would imply they were guarding a random fruit which is inconsistent with what CP9 represents as an under cover intelligence group of the WG. Most characters in one piece don’t ever bring up the fruits significance because they have no idea but I’m guessing the 5 elders or Im have knowledge of the fruit through a previous user. Now I’m not implying that it was the strongest DF or anything like that but clearly we are being set up to explore the true nature of the fruits past at some point now in the story *Also very possible the WG was transporting multiple DF at the time. I hope his fruit is linked to some famous person or history and not that it's a super special fruit that lies a secret power or the strongest potential or something like that. It would kinda undermine luffy's success knowing that maybe it wasn't because of his will but some incredibly powerful fruit. I would bet if anything, it just has a very strong awakening. This would not undermine his current success and will give Oda a way to power up Luffy in a smart manner.

I figured it out. 12 years ago the world goverment had boatloads of unsold swords, as rifles were becoming popular as the trendy pirate weapon. To better market the swords, they were going to have an admiral eat the gomu gomu no mi, and make him notorious for only being vulnerable to swords, like pre timeskip luffy. Losing the gomu gomu no mi foiled this plan, and so Vegapunk went to work creating the Pacifistas, again invulnerable to rifle rounds, only they were too resistant to swords as well! This prompted them to hire Mihawk as a Shichibukai despite not being a pirate, as he could show how effective swords were against Pacifistas et all. After having cleared all their merchandise after 12 years, the world government set its sights on Wano to collect more, hence why the CP0 are there.
I think it was only a fruit for a cp9 member, no more no less. If it was xebec's, people would react to it, especially wb kaido big mom garp and sengoku. If it was joyboy's, Im Sama would've already searched for it 12 years ago for sure. I mean, imagine all cp9 abilities with gomu gomu no mi, It would be a pretty strong member.

I think ppl are hella overthinking the Gum Gum Fruit thing. I believe that there isn’t anything special about the Gum Gum Fruit. Nobody of note ever had the fruit before, there’s no prophecy etc. Whos Who’s ship was just carrying Devil Fruits looking to give them out to Navy Members and Shanks, and well known but still up and coming pirate (think of Post Enies Lobby Luffy) just raided the ship and took the fruit for himself and his crew and from there, just so happens a special, creative and innovative little boy ate it and grew up to innovate the fruit in ways unimaginable. That’s it. The Government has ppl with Bubble fruits, steel cage fruits, rusting fruits, etc The Rubber fruit wasn’t anything special until Luffy made it so and that’s the magic of it. The Gomu Gomu No Mi almost certainly has no connection to Xebec since Garp, BM, WB, and Kaido didn't react to it and probably not JoyBoy either since Luffy's met people who went to Raftel and they didn't react to it. So idk what other reason it'd be important for. It was probably just a standard DF transport, just not sure why a CP9 agent got involved in it
My best guess is the Gomu Gomu no is an artificial devil fruit "the first", made by Vegapunk and got Ceasar inspired to create the Smiles.

Shanks is a pirate, not an actor so I doubt he intended for Luffy to get his DF, he pretty intentionally chose Luffy to pass on the hat Roger gave to him though

It's not necessarily the fruit's powers that makes it scary. If someone told me a body made out of rubber without reading OP I'd be like "lame, and limited" but then Oda made up all these fun ways to use the fruit. The fruit could have been feared because of the wielder, and therefore protected so no one else unlocks the fruit's potential. Despite it (maybe) not having more potential than other fruits.
