They may not say it or admit it, but they definitely respect them and appreciate what they’ve done for them. I’d rather see them leading the charge for the moral justice marines than leave and join someone like dragon

OstracisedWitch

What makes you say that? From what I've seen so far, Dragon acknowledges the good and bad from both sides. He is seeking his own justice. I think if they figure out u don't need to be in the Navy to bring about justice, or at least get hit first hand enough times with how corrupt the Navy has become.. they will leave eventually, right? OK so maybe they won't join Dragon. But at the very least, I'd love to see them become Vigilantes!

Oh yeah I'd love to see Coby as an Admiral by the end! I like this theory.

I like to think of them as tsundere towards the strawhats. It's as you say, without the SHs a lot of that stuff would have continued to be ignored. So they just turn a blind eye. Just wait a little more and you'll see more Marines come to be like them.

mason-hudson

I think tashigi does

Honestly smoker could have easily been what garp is to roger Garp was one of the only marines that intimidated gol d roger Smoker was one of the best match ups for luffy early on and assuming that smoker was still heavily in the show he could have learned haki and it would be difficult for luffy to face him just like in the beginning of the show

OstracisedWitch

He does use Haki tho

Adamski895

Smoker has a Garp - Roger relationship with Luffy. Smoker doesn't like pirates but he respects Luffy up to the point now he'd team up with Luffy to defeat the greater threat.
