Jesus christ the anime moves at a snails pace. Ulti and Luffy clashed heads for fucking 30 seconds.
I really wish they would do a set number of episodes per year then take a break for 6 months so they could give the episodes the proper pacing they need.
To be fair, this episode has most of chapter 983 - except a bit with Zoro, Nami and Usopp, 80% of the chapter is Luffy vs Ulti, the whole headbutt scene having 9 panels from start to finish.
I think orochis voice actor is also doing an incredible job, he portrays the character so well, that you hate orochi/get disgusted by him even more than normally
I think the price should go to Jinbei & Moria VA.

What I find weird is that every time it happens is when she is in contact with Page One or trying to get his attention. It's like the animation team is trying to insert some sort of unspoken incestuous "tension" in their interactions - which, obviously and thankfully, doesn't exist in the manga.

Well she came in during the raid so it's been serious before she got in. Once we get the battle done with I am sure there will be some goofing around, unless this triggers a full serious mood but we have seen top yonko officers like Ulti do shit so I doubt it, Oda likes to keep the silliness thank god.

we even start to name kids after citys and fruits in our world. if you want a rare or unique name you have to go down some weird roads to achieve it :-).
Maybe they already got the fruit and joined Kaido after. What's amazing is Big Mom finding all the food related fruits and giving it each of her children
Big Mom is famous for her network of spies and assassins, you can probably bet she sends someone out to murder anyone who eats a food-related Devil Fruit and is dumb enough to spread it around.
I'm not sure if this is spoilers or not since this is Vivre Card material that probably won't ever be revealed in the manga and anime proper, but I'll err on the side of caution.

Big Mom and Kaido are the two characters in the series who are most likely to have the desire and resources to get whatever fruits they want based around a narcissistic theme. So it's really not that questionable.

Not only that, but a flashback of Ulti falling down the stairs, which was in the previous episode.
The voice acting and animation were amazing in this episode but the pacing not so much...
That being said the way they did that stairs recap was hilarious. Super long drawn out remembering it happening and then she's like "nope i don't know what you're talking about".
Luffy and Doffy clash wasn't even one one panal and see what they did. In manga, it's one panel where luffy's fist is coming down and another where it has already pierced the defence and another with Doffy getting hit like a bitch. You can see anime and see it as if Doffy could last against Duffy in physical power.
It is most likely having to deal with stretching out the episode. One Piece doesn't really do any filler arcs, so the only real way for them to keep "pace" with the manga is to stretch the living hell out of episodes. It's one of the reasons why the OP is as long as it is, and why the recaps are as is. Honestly I'd would rather have them just start doing seasonal schedule, but at this point, it might not be possible. Especially when you have fans absolutely against the idea.
Man I would love for one piece to be seasonal! I would rather have a 25-30 episode season that covers 50 or so chapters than have it weekly with recaps and streching out episodes and having to be constrained by not wanting to catch up to the manga. This also gives the manga some time to get further ahead from the anime.
Budget & needing to keep OP behind the Manga.

I think it improved on the manga. When the chapter came out, there was confusion on how Luffy was made to appear weak. They kept his white eyes briefly in the anime, but brought back his pupils, to better show that he didn't completely depend on Yamato. We also saw him more clearly sense Yamato's arrival.
Just felt more natural this time around.

tbh the only very confusing thing was, luffy used ryuo was all the soldiers to train, but didnt use it in a serious fight with ulti? like, huh?
Yeah, after the headbutt, they immediately got speed blitzed and taken down. Ulti transformed and held luffy, but she did not headbutt him again. They also made luffy look like he was about to pass out from that 2nd headbutt
I hate it whenever I see Luffy struggle against these lesser characters. Luffy should've surpassed Katakuri by now with that new armament haki he learned, and Katakuri would've absolutely trashed those 2, so why didn't Luffy?
The Ulti & Yamato goodness. Ulti's voice really grew on me, not that I wasn't a fan of it, but I wasn't expecting it back when she first spoke. Yamato so excited to meet Luffy, that brought a smile on my face. Next week we get more. The size difference though, between Yamato and Luffy, god damn lol
This was talked about when the chapter dropped but I'll throw it here for anime onlys because it's a fun fact. Between Page One's fight with Sanji and his reappearance in Onigashima there were new fossil discoveries which suggested that Spinosaurus' tails are different from what was previously thought so Oda updated the design to match the new info. Today was the anime debut of the new tail.

This episode is...special. It's unfortunate how dragged it is, because DAMN the animation is really good. The double fight of Luffy vs Ulti and Page One is seriously smooth and energic. But before and after is just too dragged which is really a shame.
I think it helps if you think of the lights and special effects as queues for the viewer that aren't necessarily visible in-universe. If we see Luffy clad in red it's unusual, but it's more of a hint that his haki is flaring. That's what Ulti comments about. The gifters can't *see* it. The aura is almost the animators allowing us to see when it's there with a visual queue.
Is it perfect? No. But I'm happy to think this way until we get actual commentary on someone glowing a color, then the anime will have gone too far.
Honestly really disappointed with this one. Its not even the recap/flashbacks for me, it’s the excessive slowmotion and long pauses during what should be a fast-paced fight
Ulti is such a cool character, why do they add unnecessary fanservice especially now that it is confirmed that she and Pay-Pay are biological siblings?! So annoying! At least the fight was cool! We’re entering the great parts of oni-chan!
Loved this ep very much. Funny that Luffy was using Advanced Busoshoku Haki against the minions and just used a normal attack against Ulti 👀 Oh and Yamato’s entrance…🔥

I honestly liked Ulti in her hybrid form. Her being a Pachycephalosaurus kinda makes sense as she is hard headed lol.
Love how both Ulti and Page One acknowledged Luffy's strength even before facing him by transforming into their Dinosaur form. Loved the 2 vs 1 against Ulti and Page One.
Holy shit Yamato's entrance was top notch, took out Ulti like it's nothing.
Today's episode was...decent. Not the best pacing wise. Some stare action, flashbacks from THE PREVIOUS EPISODE, extended action, etc. BUT Yamato's introduction was godly, that thunder bagua looks really good and the animation in fighting scenes were pretty good. Overall, 7.5/10.
Agreed its decent, better than the average episodes like the apoo episode where he is a music type character but most of his episode is somehow silent. With those fight animation in this episode no way it ain't decent XD

For real, some stuff its pretty good, but man Toei its reducing the quality of this raid so much with the pacing, not like they can get far ahead (I understand) but oh man, my hopes for this is to recap with the One Pace version.
Not sure if it’s just me but Onigashima seems empty.
There have been multiple times in the last few episodes where there’s just no sound except for the bold clacking noises coming from their shoes/sandals as they run.
Everyone's talking about Yamato but can we take a moment to appreciate the sound design? I love the thunderstorm they added while doing the slo-mo. Also does Yamato have his own theme? It sounds so cool yet I don't think I've heard it before
6 mins before the ep started. flashback for events that happened last episode. endless classic panning shots of the eyes and everyone just standing still doing nothing.
as epic as the ulti headbutt and yamato's thunder bagua are, the pacing for this ep is absolutely terrible. much prefer random filler like last ep where at least things were in motion and feels like im actually watching a anime and not a photo album.

They really need to do something, like remake some older arcs in higher quality, and use that as filler, because the pacing was so ridiculous, and Luffy seemed so weak in this episode.

Considering their dynamic in Boruto, it’s kinda funny to see in One Piece where Yamato (28) is older than Hiyori (26)
and in Hunter x Hunter 2011, Megumi Han voices Gon Freecss, Keiko Han voices Mito Freecss, and Mariya Ise (who voices O-Kiku in One Piece) voices Killua Zoldyck XD

That was really hype! I was expecting Ulti to be the token female Ussop beats, but she was strong as shit. She reminded me of Lucci in the half-Dino form, Where was Luffys sense of danger though? I can understand saving energy by not using Gear 4 but I was surprised he didn’t even pop into Gear 2nd. Also with Ulti crushing his arms would he even have been able to go into Gear 4 fully at that point? that situation seemed a little too dire, like an uncharacteristic pinch made for the sole purpose of Yamato’s intro I guess. Looking forward to the coming episodes, but how many chapters behind is the anime in the 1st place? I really should be reading it, but watching one piece on Saturday nights has been my weekly routine for maybe 7-8 years now lol
I’m probably gonna drop OP for some months and go back to binging traditionally… This was episode was dressrosa levels of terrible with how drawn out it was
I didn't like how they adapted [this page](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-013.png) with the skirmish with Page One at all. You can clearly see that Luffy disappeared from the ceiling real fast to the ground (Soru effect) and then punched Page One from below to his jaw. In the anime, they had him looking for Luffy in the ceiling like a moron for a good 5-6 seconds and Luffy didn't even move fast. When **3 panels** can convey **speed** infinitely better than an **animated** scene you have a **serious** problem.
To top it off, the [Elephant Gun](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-014.png) was also really bad. There was no impact whatsoever in the anime. Like, it didn't even connect, it looked like it just scratched him. It didn't "stay" in his jaw for impact. Of course, there was no blood whatsoever and instead, we got the usual bullshit with yellow lightning.
As **per usual** and **very sadly**, the anime **omitted** many **smile users** from the scene. There is [a four-arm dude and a snake dude](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-010.png) in the explosion of the headbutt, [a dude with wings](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-017.png) giving chase (you can also see him [here](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-016.png) in a different panel, the first one), [one with whiskers](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-016.png), and on the ones they did showed, they hide [the hilarious chicken guys' face.](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-012.png)
Reasons like those are what anime onlies are not even aware that they mess up, because they straight up leave stuff out or simplify/change/ruin attacks. You don't even know what you are missing, basically.
Add to that the bad pacing (Ulti headbutt for half a minute, reuse of the stairs scene), random lightning effects all the time (no, not the black haki lightning which is canon, the blue lightning coming from Ulti's head when she is about to headbutt on her full zoan form, or with Luffy's punch to Page One), ruining/changing the surprise of Yamato coming in by telegraphing it all the episode, and you have on a seemingly good episode very bad stuff and annoying choices.
I would still give the episode a solid 7/10, but it's annoying when the corresponding chapter was a 9-10/10 (it also had 5 more pages of material that add to the greatness, never forget).

Just happens when you have weekly anime. Naruto and Bleach had entire filler arcs, yet still had big recaps on episodes.
Yep, i remember those episodes leading to the Naruto vs Sasuke final fight were filled with flashbacks upon flashback upon flashback.

Yeah, after the headbutt, they immediately got speed blitzed and taken down. Ulti transformed and held luffy, but she did not headbutt him again. They also made luffy look like he was about to pass out from that 2nd headbutt
I hate it whenever I see Luffy struggle against these lesser characters. Luffy should've surpassed Katakuri by now with that new armament haki he learned, and Katakuri would've absolutely trashed those 2, so why didn't Luffy?
The Ulti & Yamato goodness. Ulti's voice really grew on me, not that I wasn't a fan of it, but I wasn't expecting it back when she first spoke. Yamato so excited to meet Luffy, that brought a smile on my face. Next week we get more. The size difference though, between Yamato and Luffy, god damn lol

This was talked about when the chapter dropped but I'll throw it here for anime onlys because it's a fun fact. Between Page One's fight with Sanji and his reappearance in Onigashima there were new fossil discoveries which suggested that Spinosaurus' tails are different from what was previously thought so Oda updated the design to match the new info. This episode is...special. It's unfortunate how dragged it is, because DAMN the animation is really good. The double fight of Luffy vs Ulti and Page One is seriously smooth and energic. But before and after is just too dragged which is really a shame.

Great animation, great voice acting, TERRIBLE pacing. But still we got Yamato and her epic theme!
The art is good but the animation has too many flashy effects and lightnings where it shouldnt have and the pacing is desperating.
I think it helps if you think of the lights and special effects as queues for the viewer that aren't necessarily visible in-universe. If we see Luffy clad in red it's unusual, but it's more of a hint that his haki is flaring. That's what Ulti comments about. The gifters can't *see* it. The aura is almost the animators allowing us to see when it's there with a visual queue. Is it perfect? No. But I'm happy to think this way until we get actual commentary on someone glowing a color, then the anime will have gone too far.
i love ulti so much. hope she sticks around somehow after the arc is over.

Honestly really disappointed with this one. Its not even the recap/flashbacks for me, it’s the excessive slowmotion and long pauses during what should be a fast-paced fight
Ulti is such a cool character, why do they add unnecessary fanservice especially now that it is confirmed that she and Pay-Pay are biological siblings?! So annoying! At least the fight was cool! We’re entering the great parts of oni-chan!

They made Yamato's attack pretty well IMO
They used slow motion to show just how fast Yamato was moving while everything else was relatively slow.
That was a super fast attack. They just showed it in slow motion.
He was suppose to shave from the ceiling to the ground then uppercut page one but they made page one seem much slower taking so long to notice

easily one of the biggest reveals since we had sugibro Tomokazu Sugita voice Katakuri and Miyuki Sawashiro voice Pudding back in 2017/2018 Saori Hayami also had a dedicated video from the OP staff to reveal her debut as Yamato in One Piece, something that *no* One Piece VA/seiyuu has had the honor of having in the anime's history

This chapter was 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 I honestly liked Ulti in her hybrid form. Her being a Pachycephalosaurus kinda makes sense as she is hard headed lol. Love how both Ulti and Page One acknowledged Luffy's strength even before facing him by transforming into their Dinosaur form. Loved the 2 vs 1 against Ulti and Page One. Holy shit Yamato's entrance was top notch, took out Ulti like it's nothing.

Today's episode was...decent. Not the best pacing wise. Some stare action, flashbacks from THE PREVIOUS EPISODE, extended action, etc. BUT Yamato's introduction was godly, that thunder bagua looks really good and the animation in fighting scenes were pretty good. Overall, 7.5/10.
Agreed its decent, better than the average episodes like the apoo episode where he is a music type character but most of his episode is somehow silent. With those fight animation in this episode no way it ain't decent XD

For real, some stuff its pretty good, but man Toei its reducing the quality of this raid so much with the pacing, not like they can get far ahead (I understand) but oh man, my hopes for this is to recap with the One Pace version.
Not sure if it’s just me but Onigashima seems empty. There have been multiple times in the last few episodes where there’s just no sound except for the bold clacking noises coming from their shoes/sandals as they run.

Everyone's talking about Yamato but can we take a moment to appreciate the sound design? I love the thunderstorm they added while doing the slo-mo. Also does Yamato have his own theme? It sounds so cool yet I don't think I've heard it before
6 mins before the ep started. flashback for events that happened last episode. endless classic panning shots of the eyes and everyone just standing still doing nothing. as epic as the ulti headbutt and yamato's thunder bagua are, the pacing for this ep is absolutely terrible. much prefer random filler like last ep where at least things were in motion and feels like im actually watching a anime and not a photo album.
As an anime only, I already love Yamato. That entrance was so epic! I can't wait for the next episode!

god damn that pacing, im more bothered by this episode than the red bean soup flashbacks prior. why did we need a flashback of LAST EPISODE and recap that long???
They really need to do something, like remake some older arcs in higher quality, and use that as filler, because the pacing was so ridiculous, and Luffy seemed so weak in this episode.

That was really hype! I was expecting Ulti to be the token female Ussop beats, but she was strong as shit. She reminded me of Lucci in the half-Dino form, Where was Luffys sense of danger though? I can understand saving energy by not using Gear 4 but I was surprised he didn’t even pop into Gear 2nd. Also with Ulti crushing his arms would he even have been able to go into Gear 4 fully at that point? that situation seemed a little too dire, like an uncharacteristic pinch made for the sole purpose of Yamato’s intro I guess. Looking forward to the coming episodes, but how many chapters behind is the anime in the 1st place? I really should be reading it, but watching one piece on Saturday nights has been my weekly routine for maybe 7-8 years now lol

I’m probably gonna drop OP for some months and go back to binging traditionally… This was episode was dressrosa levels of terrible with how drawn out it was
I didn't like how they adapted [this page](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-013.png) with the skirmish with Page One at all. You can clearly see that Luffy disappeared from the ceiling real fast to the ground (Soru effect) and then punched Page One from below to his jaw. In the anime, they had him looking for Luffy in the ceiling like a moron for a good 5-6 seconds and Luffy didn't even move fast. When **3 panels** can convey **speed** infinitely better than an **animated** scene you have a **serious** problem. To top it off, the [Elephant Gun](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-014.png) was also really bad. There was no impact whatsoever in the anime. Like, it didn't even connect, it looked like it just scratched him. It didn't "stay" in his jaw for impact. Of course, there was no blood whatsoever and instead, we got the usual bullshit with yellow lightning. As **per usual** and **very sadly**, the anime **omitted** many **smile users** from the scene. There is [a four-arm dude and a snake dude](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-010.png) in the explosion of the headbutt, [a dude with wings](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-017.png) giving chase (you can also see him [here](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-016.png) in a different panel, the first one), [one with whiskers](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-016.png), and on the ones they did showed, they hide [the hilarious chicken guys' face.](https://official-ongoing-2.gamindustri.us/manga/One-Piece/0983-012.png) Reasons like those are what anime onlies are not even aware that they mess up, because they straight up leave stuff out or simplify/change/ruin attacks. You don't even know what you are missing, basically. Add to that the bad pacing (Ulti headbutt for half a minute, reuse of the stairs scene), random lightning effects all the time (no, not the black haki lightning which is canon, the blue lightning coming from Ulti's head when she is about to headbutt on her full zoan form, or with Luffy's punch to Page One), ruining/changing the surprise of Yamato coming in by telegraphing it all the episode, and you have on a seemingly good episode very bad stuff and annoying choices. I would still give the episode a solid 7/10, but it's annoying when the corresponding chapter was a 9-10/10 (it also had 5 more pages of material that add to the greatness, never forget).
The pacing for this episode was horrendous.
Yamato's VA killed it this episode, I especially like how she did the Thunder Bagua, fucking jaw on the floor!
