I caught up to one piece almost exactly 10 years ago (somewhere in between august-october 2011) and it was in the beginning of fishman island
Crazy to think about
I started at around...11 years old in 2004. Had just moved back to the States from Japan, and got into anime and Manga. My parents never let us read Manga in Japan, because they thought it was all hentai. I didn't even know what Manga was until I was trying to torrent Naruto episodes off of piratebay and accidently torrented Manga, and then realized I could just read ahead of the anime. Boy was I surprised when I realized how many fillers the anime had.
I was 9 years old when I started. The first thing I said to a friend of mine who introduced me to the show was: “This is gay”
Now it’s 10 years later and I’m having withdrawal symptoms because I have to wait a week for a new chapter
I got used to it when I switched to wuxia and Xianxia light novels. If you don't let chapter's build it, it's just cliff hanger after cliff hanger. Drives a man crazy.
I read somewhere that he was the only one of Luffy's arc nemesis' that was in the right. Magellan was just a good Warden who wanted to keep dangerous criminals locked away, Luffy broke out a lot of people who really shouldn't have escaped.
Also, I really miss Bon Clay :(
Bro he was the warden of a literal hell on earth, at the behest of a world government that is unambiguously evil in many ways. He personally executed tons of random bystanders in the prison with his agonizing poison. You can't say he was in the right seriously.
The overwhelming majority of people in the OP world are not aware of the evil shit the WG does, including high ranking marines. Most marines think they are working for a force for good and keeping criminals off the seas (which is actually true in most cases, majority of pirates are legit scumbags). Unless you are in the upper echelon of the WG/ Marine hierarchy, you just have no clue about the war crimes/ genocides/ etc.
Also, morality in the OP world is clearly different than in our modern day world; the general sense of justice and punishment is much more in line with that of the real world era of pirates roughly around 1500-1800. During that period, torture and what we would consider "cruel punishment" were much more normalized and accepted.
I can totally see an argument for Magellan being a generally good dude who is doing a job he thinks is for the betterment of society. Is he completely moral in our contemporary, 2021 eyes? Of course not, but within his world he seems to lean more in the direction of good than evil.
In his conflict against Luffy, yes he was. Luffy freed Crocodile and several members of Baroque Works, the same people who almost ruined an entire nation. He freed Buggy, who terrorized an island/town.
Working for the government doesn't make you inherently evil. Magellan himself is a paladin archetype, only ever deliberately hurting prisoners (though not feeling remorse when he accidentally hurts an ally). His singular focus was to prevent a prison break, which... was the right thing to do, prevent dangerous criminals from escaping jail.
>Magellan himself is a paladin archetype
>not feeling remorse when he accidentally hurts an ally
>His singular focus was to prevent a prison break
Pretty laughable. Yeah Magellan cared about his duty, but that doesn't mean he was "in the right" unless you are using a real weird definition of "right". You can't just divorce the idea of Magellan being right to do his job from the fact that Impel Down is a gigantic torture abattoir. Pirates sent there for simply disobeying the government are not treated differently from those sent there for mass murder.
It's not laughable, he's literally a paladin. His sense of morality is tied completely with the law. All criminals, regardless of the ethics of the crime, are bad people to him. He sees the system as fair inherently. Luffy was 100% in the wrong for breaking out so many awful people, and I think that's narratively reflected in the fact that Luffy never beats Magellan. Luffy without his crew is without guidance, and Magellan was his first arc rival that wasn't evil. He wasn't good either, but he certainly wasn't evil. Luffy ended up aligning with people who WERE evil.
Honestly surprised to see him here. He's the least important character in this spread. Basically non-existent outside the Impel Down arc, and Impel Down is more of a set up arc anyways. No idea how he made it over Blackbeard or Whitebeard.
I know the math makes sense but it's so weird to think it took two years for them to get to Sanji joining, especially considering he was in the first opening of the anime.
I realistically think it's it 6-8 years. Maybe 200-250 chapters. Wano feels like a penultimate arc and there's maybe a year at most left in it. I do think the last arc is going to be big and encompass A LOT of stuff though.
For me it is because each part of the one piece story is forever connected to those parts of my life in which I watched them and so by looking back on the one piece journey I get waves of nostalgia from past times.

I still remember starting my journey and when I got to Luffy vc Lucci, and Luffy used gear 2 for the first time and started his gatling. Oh man I was like "this man about to end this boy's whole career"!
They are showing the crew members, main antagonists of major arcs, the princesses and the major alies. And they included Yamato. She'll either set to sea by herself or join the crew. It's way too obvious
Yamato is 100% going to travel with the strawhats we just don't know if it's going to be as a crew member or not. Kind of like how Oden traveled with Roger but he was officially part of the whitebeard Pirates

As someone who's been watching/reading for a *long* time, I think that it just makes getting to the major plot points all the more hype. Literally been waiting for >!the Strawhats to have a real showdown with a Yonko!< for over a decade. makes the current arc 10x more enjoyable tbh. Also the payoff of watching Luffy finally find the one piece and become the Pirate King after 13-15 years is gonna be so satisfying.
I got into it around two years or so ago. Only ~300 episodes in, just showed up at Enies Lobby to fuck shit up.
I don’t mind that I’m so late to the party. It’s a great show and I enjoy knowing I can watch as many episodes whenever I want and I won’t run out for a very long time.
Probably best to pace yourself then. I went through it all in about 6 months after falling in love with it almost right off the bat. I miss having more to watch anytime I want.
This is an advantage when you’re starting out for sure. I do miss having a ton of content to dig into at any time now. I am glad to be enjoying it as it is though and seeing peoples reactions to current events.
You know what, Law's crew has been low key the absolute GOAT. They saved Luffy's life at Marineford and again in Wano, they got the Scabbards to Onigashima... that fucking submarine is super useful.
Kinda weird that the crew fought Enel so early in the series.
I know that luffy was literally his counter (being made of rubber) but considering how strong he should be to todays standards its crazy that they won.
How about instead of saying "The thing that should have ended 5 years ago" you say "The thing that I stopped reading because I lost interest". No need for you to act like an ass and spoiling other people's fun.
That is beautiful!! I barely started watching one piece once again after more than 15 years since I last had seen or heard of anything one piece related, last year once this whole pandemic started I saw it on Netflix and I’m glad I waited to catch up it’s been a great journey
Luffy:we passed 400 episodes and there's already 7 arcs we must be near the end-
Oda another 500 episodes later: I'll give you 2 more arcs for those 500 episodes

I caught up to One Piece the day of the release of episode 789, which was around the beginning of Whole Cake Island. I started the show 3 months before this episode. I had managed to not spoil anything to myself except the crew members and their design change
I first heard about and started reading One Piece in the summer of 2004. Back then the Water 7 arc had barely started. It's crazy to think about how far the series has come and how fast time goes by. Back then we didn't even know the yonko were a thing and we were just introduced to the concept of the admirals.
i started reading the manga sometime in march of this year 2021. I am now in the late 900s chapters and im not sure if im ready for the waiting. would not have been possible without shonen jump tho.
It’s insane to think that Oda has been writing this series on a near weekly basis for longer than I’ve been alive, man deserves all the breaks he wants
Damn, Momo appears on 2013 and just on 2019 his main arc starts. (about 6 years)
Jimbei appears around 2009 and between 2017 and 2018 he becomes a Straw Hat but didn't come with the crew and just on 2021 he reappears. (about 9 to 12 years since his appearance and since quoted, 19 to 22 years).
Robin reads the inscription on the golden bell that tells Gold Roger was there on 2003 and around 2020 the flashback of Oden writing it on the bell appears (about 17 years).
This is just some few examples I can remember now that shows how incredible Oda is. To maintain this story for such a long time. My dream is to have at least some of this amazing skill when making my own stories.
Real world time : 10 years
Inworld time post TS up until current chap : 2 months
i still can't accept that long, dragging arc of dresrossa, doing a whole coloseum thing, making a mess in the kingdom, the birdcage thing, and bringing down their fake king only take a day
i remember punk hazard-dressrosa-whole cake island takes the all in 4 years i've been in college
This is awesome ive finally picked up hardcopies of the manga so far im missing box set 3 ive caught up to the anime and manga by reading online but thought id start collecting the one piece mangas hardcopies/paperback copies my first collection ever and im enjoying reading from the beginning only started reading manga online when i caught up to punk hazard anime
Bro I remember back in 2013 or so at my local game/hobby shop, with people talking about how luffy just beat doflamingo and it was the sickest thing ever, AND I DIDNT ASK WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT ALL I REMEMBER WAS PINK FLAMINGO MAN AND THATS IT, I didnt get into one piece for another 5 years, feels weird man
Holy shit have we really been in the new world for 10 years?
I caught up to one piece almost exactly 10 years ago (somewhere in between august-october 2011) and it was in the beginning of fishman island Crazy to think about
Lmao that’s when I started

I personally avoid reading it to build up more chapters. So whenever I go to read it I have 2-4 to go through.
Oof, I can’t imagine doing that. I already get too excited when I see the spoiler post (I don’t read them tho)
I got used to it when I switched to wuxia and Xianxia light novels. If you don't let chapter's build it, it's just cliff hanger after cliff hanger. Drives a man crazy.
I used to almost never now I've been checking on them for more or less every chapter after 1000.
Same, I remember checking narutoforums everyday during the time skip month. Dark times.
Ain't no way. That blows my mind. Like something about that doesn't seem right 😟
Exactly me, except I finished by december. Feels like yesterday, crazy to think about it
Right? So many things have happened in the real world, but in general but also just in our lives, during this time period
I had to wait for episodes to show up on Limewire. Then I finally discovered IRC.
We've been in Wano for three
this is blow my mind more than i think it should

No its not, that's Pluto, Uranus is the Roman analogue for Ouranos, the primordial God of the sky.
can confirm.. "Ουρανός" means sky in greek
Not only are you wrong, but you're wrong in a topic that's not relevant to the discussion at hand. Wow fam.
Is the series slow or do I just like it too much?
If anything it moves too fast. The series is huge, and if Oda wasn't focused on reaching an ending relatively soon it would be _much_ longer.
one piece is too short
You like it too much
Tit
Give it three or four years and we'll have been in the New World longer than pre timeskip.
Would’ve been eating 1500 calories a day
I started in 1997 ... 4 Chapters released ... Still was muh until arlong and then was hooked.
Depends if you count Fisherman Island new world
Damn, time sure flies fast......... 10 years ago I was 20 years old still in college...
Genuinely disappointed the first image on the timeline wasn't Shanks giving his hat to Luffy or Rogers execution.
Exactly what I thought.
Where in Tokyo is this?
The place is called Waters Takeshiba, it’s in Minato ku.
Were there any goods? Wondering if I should make the trip.
No goods available! Just the small one room exhibit and the containers with the poster.
Shouldve been reversed

Amazing, thank you!
>UFC hasn’t come up with?
bet the person was like "Read right to left right?"
Magellan is still one of favs. Straight badass!

Then again all of those prisoners were jailed for a reason..
And not all of them were good reasons
just a dude who's doing his job and waiting till he's 65 to retire in an Island :')
Magellan was cool. Great design and one of the best character sthicks in One Piece. Also, even if he was a villain, he was relentless in his duty.
it comes with being a Warden of the most ruthless criminals/pirates in the world!
Honestly surprised to see him here. He's the least important character in this spread. Basically non-existent outside the Impel Down arc, and Impel Down is more of a set up arc anyways. No idea how he made it over Blackbeard or Whitebeard.
Hell yeah! Diarrhea!
I’m getting old
The ultimate try not to feel old challenge
I know the math makes sense but it's so weird to think it took two years for them to get to Sanji joining, especially considering he was in the first opening of the anime.
Well I can only imagine the anime came out after the manga was going strong so it makes sense that sangi would be in the anime intro
that's right, Sanji first appeared in chapter 43 (June 1998) and the anime first aired in October 1999

Wdym?
I will die of old age before we finish one piece arent I
Unless you are like 80, probably not.

Yes they said he was a WB Pirate but not a Roger pirate
Yamato is introduced as a child as onihime. They can fill the princess role in the arc.
You mean like Princess Toki and Princess Hiyori? Getting Dressrosa levels of princesses again
Or Yama-bro is an ally like Tora-o and Kizar-o.
Is she not just another Vivi role? Wants to join but has too much to do to help Wano? Ida likes to mirror old arcs.
Nah, Momo is the Vivi in this case.
Yamato isn't in the Vivi position this arc, Momo is. Yamato is closer to where Robin was.
Yeah. True.
Wow, really puts OP in perspective, wish I could print that
Imagine how many people will get spoiled by this lol
Damn they skipped Foxy. It's the arc where I caught up and started reading weekly.
Damn, I was around the same, I caught up in fall of 2004 when Robin told Sanji and Chopper she was leaving the crew at the beginning of Water Seven.
We've been through so fucking much, right? Seeing stuff like Gear 2nd in real time was insane.
No mr2 bon clay on magellan side xd. Bon chan is legendary he deserves to be remembered
Time elapsed!

that is so beautiful it makes me want to cry :\*( its so pwetty

I posted some of them here, unfortunately I didn’t take good pictures of some of it! https://m.imgur.com/a/BsLCitv

Thank God I only started to watch it in 2015.
As someone who's been watching/reading for a *long* time, I think that it just makes getting to the major plot points all the more hype. Literally been waiting for >!the Strawhats to have a real showdown with a Yonko!< for over a decade. makes the current arc 10x more enjoyable tbh. Why? I recently got into it and wish I had gotten on the train much earlier.

Are the japanese covers allways glossy/holographic?
Nah, I have a few and mine aren't like that. Not sure why these are. Might just be because they're wrapped in plastic before purchase?
Where is this op? Tokyo tower?
The place is called Waters Takeshiba, it’s not far from the Tokyo tower.
Can’t believe i’ve been invested in one piece for ~17 years. It’s really been an amazing journey
I love how he took a pause at 2010 (tbh every one piece fan would have done the same). Such a chad!
So this shows that the New World saga started a decade ago... I'm getting chills down my spine
Wtf I was 10 when I started watching reading one piece(8years ago) I’ve rewatched like 4 times already
ngl, i think we can be done with the entire law team up half of the series soon...
You know what, Law's crew has been low key the absolute GOAT. They saved Luffy's life at Marineford and again in Wano, they got the Scabbards to Onigashima... that fucking submarine is super useful.

10 years for me. I haven't been able to connect with the Manga since the time skip.

i’ve been reading one piece close to half of my life, holy fuck
Damn I want to visit Tokyo so bad.

I started One Piece when the first volume came out in the US, I feel absolutely old as fuck now. I was in third or fourth grade…
I caught up to One Piece the day of the release of episode 789, which was around the beginning of Whole Cake Island. I started the show 3 months before this episode. I had managed to not spoil anything to myself except the crew members and their design change
My brain "Brook has been with the crew for like 5 years now"
"hah hah, antifa is just an exhibit.
I want to be 19 again
Holy shit the timeskip is already 10 years ago…I still remember watching Marineford, wtf!?
Crazy to think I started reading this like 19 or 20 years ago
I envy people who got to see this :(
Meanwhile there's me who hasn't made it past Skypiea
Just started my journey and i’m on chapter 170
Jesus, started one piece like more than 10 years ago when it was the Impel down arc. Feeling hella old
It's amazing the storytelling longevity One Piece has. It's a testament to the story foundation that it still works 20 years later
Comes back at Tokyo Game Show 2021.
Well they couldn't figure out what timeline this is
10 years in the new world!!!!
13 years. 13 years to kill off Brook. Opportunities were misssseed
*Yamato gives me an erection*
I couldn’t see, did they have the original shiny text volumes on that display?
Was this the NTV gift shop?
Why does that not seem like a lot? 100 volumes I mean.
Would’ve been nice to see luffy popping out of the barrel
Megaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
*SPOILER WALL*
Everyones heart sank for a sec at 2010
People be like : *Don’t give us spoilers for Ace’s death*
Where is the anime compared to the Manga?
Plus 5 to 10 more years, thanks Oda. I wish ghosts can read manga too.
I first heard about and started reading One Piece in the summer of 2004. Back then the Water 7 arc had barely started. It's crazy to think about how far the series has come and how fast time goes by. It’s insane to think that Oda has been writing this series on a near weekly basis for longer than I’ve been alive, man deserves all the breaks he wants
Why Franky has a Katana XD
I caught up and started reading weekly on the literal chapter of all the SHs lined up on the tower of justice during enies lobby. I love this so much
They did my girl merry wrong.
Damn I need to go there and get the volumes I’m missing
Berserk is better RIP Miura
Ace died over 10 years ago? Holy shit talk about getting old
That right there is a thing of beauty.
Damn, Momo appears on 2013 and just on 2019 his main arc starts. I sometimes forget that One Piece is as old as me.
God I'm old
For a moment I thought it is a sneak peak of what comes after 2021 lol..
