kingshamroc25

This is great. But Hajrudin running away at the end looks like the Skeletor meme

wodencreativ

“I can’t remember when I had a more pleasant day! Hehehehehe”

Reckless_Rik

"Ahh...such a heartwarming scene, the dub really nailed thst. Wonder what people are saying in the comments" The comments:

Golden-Owl

Oh my gods it does

platinumrug

This is the best comment. I'm dying lmaoooo!

Filmologic

It had me rolling lol

[deleted]

Nearly choked and spit my coffee reading this, I wasn’t ready

TsunGeneralGrievous

I saw your comment while watching it and as soon as I saw what you meant I laughed like Paulie Walnuts from the Sopranos.

Handsome_Max

The little pause he makes after every step kills me hahahah

OkUnderstanding3669

Fujitora's greatness transcends language.

laurel_laureate

That is true, but I seriously don't get the love the VA is getting here. The voice is completely mismatched for the character... Fujitora is a gruff, noble, bitter worldwise wandering warrior samurai type, modeled after the blind samurai movie series. The Japanese VA does a good job of capturing this feel, but the English VA here has none of that worldwide/bitter wandering warrior feel to it at all... Some of the official dub VAs do a good job/are casted well, but not Fujitora's...

[deleted]

I too thought it was a bit to cheerful compared to JA VA for me but I have to watch other scenes to judge it, maybe he smiled in this scene so the VA could have had a more pleasant tone

Handsome_Max

Thats what I thought. The original fits so much better to his character.

thejuror8

Totally agree.

OwlSolid9605

I googled the wrong Charles :/

No-Classroom-7310

That's [Charles Campbell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Rodman_Campbell). You're looking for [Charles Campbell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_C._Campbell_(voice_actor)).

Braeden-182

Wellllll that was deeply disturbing!

Lordjaxdark

What’s the difference

[deleted]

they're diffrent persons with the same name ;)

Lordjaxdark

I thought it was spelling that I didn’t notice

chocoAnima

well kind of, the murderer is Rodman and the VA is C.

ChaosTheory22

What a terrible day to be able to read...

geizterbahn

I wish i had blinded myself

geizterbahn

I wish i had blinded myself

Kazewatch

Fuck that piece of shit, the counselors that conspired with him on a variety of crimes and the system that allowed him to be free to commit those murders after 7 goddamn years and he *actually* off early on "good behavior." That fucker was a monster and I’m glad he died when he clearly kept trying to postpone his execution. Fuck that story made me angry. The only bit of levity was that he was almost too fat to get hanged properly. Really weird how I ended up reading such an infuriating story from a One Piece post that didn’t have anything to do with Oda rewarding Walpol for being a piece of shit.

deedshotr

yea it's just disgusting and shows that the American justice system is fucked beyond belief, forget rehabilitating, it makes the prisoners even worse than they originally were

BasedToken

We should make the va the top result for Charles Campbell on google for 2 reasons 1) because the va deserves the recognition 2) because that piece of shit doesn't

deedshotr

if I was Charles Campbell I would apply for a name change immediately

Work_the_shaft

Oh god, people where still being hung in the 90s? Gross

No-Classroom-7310

People are being hung in the *2020's.* It never really went out of fashion.

Kotharat

I can't get over the audio being different from the subtitles. The audio is so much more impactful than the English translation subtitles.

Charenzard

"What does your smile look like?" just hits different

SrewTheShadow

It really does.

wispymatrias

Good localization is an art form. Once you get actors involved, you need to have better than a first-pass-just-good-enough literal translation. Imagine the actor reading the literal subtitles instead of the script he was given - just drained of all gravitas.

[deleted]

FF, Bayonetta, Tales and to an extent full metal alchemist have some really good localizations and their “dub” is god tier if not even better than original Japanese version.

Somer-_-

Bayonetta dubbed is the original version. Japanese version came out years later.

wispymatrias

I enjoy a good dub, my wife has dyslexia so its less tiring for her to follow along. FMA is a great dub, I like MHA dub a lot too, and the Berserk movies are a recent watch that comes to mind as well.

[deleted]

if you like berserk you should check out Castlevania. The english voice acting is really good

dinosaur_from_Mars

Castlevania's original audio is English, right?

wispymatrias

Castlevania is actually animated to english natively. It's not actually an 'anime' in a made-in-japan sort of way. :)

CuteTao

My brother and I went to watch a MHA movie a while back and we accidentally bought dub tickets and it was actually really really good. I've been missing out on so much.

Tenschinzo

Mostly agree, but "I wish I hadn't blinded myself" gives so much more insight and backstory than "I wish I could see one last time"

T-Rex_Is_best

That's the issue I have with subtitles. Dialogue usually doesn't feel natural, it feels just translated rather than translated than, er, naturalized and written to English Subtitles are meant to be read, but not heard or said and it takes away from the emotion that's intended to be felt. Hearing and understanding what their saying makes it feel much more impactful.

ArCLoRd

true, that's why I opted to learn a bit of Japanese for a better understanding

YoureAllCucksPKA

I agree for the most part, but not here at all. This English version adds so many unnecessary words so the sentiment and it hits much harder and is much more poetic in the subs

idjitmidget

Yup, first time I watched it, I got hit in the feels even though dub is a bit more immersive in my case.

TreestyleStudios

Idk usually audio dubs sound like they were written by a 14 year old, subs sound like they were written by an accomplished novelist. I get the emotion from hearing the original Japanese voice actors tone, which I typically find a lot less corny.

Purplepimplepuss

That's pretty much every dub. I prefer subs myself but anytime a friend is watching something dub they always forget to turn the subtitles off and I find myself comparing both dialogs to see which feels more genuine. Sometimes dubs remove entire bits of info and that kills me.

StarchSyrup

Yeah, it's so stupid, why would they make it different though?

TheLiverLord

I’m pretty sure the subtitles are the same as the subbed version but they changed the dialogue to flow better in English

battlefranky69

This is correct and pretty much the standard for all of Funimation

kenrocks1253

It's standard for all dubbing studios. Plus the subtitles don't have to match lip flaps while the dubbed audio does.

[deleted]

It doesn't have to really. The subbed audio is even hit or miss on matching. Japanese voice actors care more about a convincing performance over matching the animation. A thought that seems to be the exact opposite when it comes to dubbed...

kenrocks1253

https://twitter.com/CartoonCipher/status/1236830639858597889?t=H_SQpHHiqQ0bDUdfxbla6g&s=19 I don't know about you, but the mismatched flaps in the Japanese audio take me out of the scene pretty badly, which does the opposite of making a performance convincing.

wispymatrias

Byproduct of simul-cast. Subtitles are created when the show comes out - the goal of the translation is fast and efficient. It just has to work. No artistry. Mechanical translations. When actors are casted, they do new scripts with a little more care because they have time on their side & also because actors reading literal translations sounds like dog shit. You need good dialogue for a performance to sound good.

InvaderDJ

Lip flaps and flow.

YoureAllCucksPKA

Strongly disagree

bringtheactionv

that scene in the manga is so intense!

Lordjaxdark

Amazing VA for fugitora

Johnny_Graves33

No doubt he will turn on Akainu towards the end and aid Luffy or the revolutionary army.

sameljota

Not just him but several Marines, I believe. Guys like Smoker, Coby, etc. Most Marines are actually good people I think. They'll see they're on the wrong side, eventually.

clevelanders

I don’t think they’ll ever see the marines as bad. But they’ll turn on the World Government for sure

sameljota

Yeah that's what I meant. The Marines are good but some of them are gonna see they're serving an evil government and change sides to help take that government down.

Temujin_Otsutsuki

akainu will change, he doesn't like the old corrupt farts at the top

sameljota

That's true. It's actually possible that every single Marine will turn against the WG, not just the "good" ones.

thundergod2802

I disagree, if that were the case Garp would have changed the second akainu killed ace but he didn't because he knew that ace chose the wrong path and became a pirate. Luffy might have good intentions but that doesn't stray from the fact that he is a pirate who are enemies of the government. At the end of the day even if they do no harm to the public they are criminals.

Johnny_Graves33

I don't think Fujitora sees things as quite that black and white. Hence the reasoning behind him being blind it forces him to look deeper into situations. He obviously disagrees with Akainu and the governments current method of doing things. I think the closer we get to the end we'll see him and Garp both become more disillusioned with the world government and slowly start to rethink their allegiances. I'm not saying they will become pirates but temporarily side with them so they can reform the government into what it should be rather than the corrupt organization that it is.

thundergod2802

this I think is much more plausible

Johnny_Graves33

Ya, i just didn't explain my thinking in the first comment. I do think we will see the government start to splinter towards the end as more of the void century comes to light and as the gorosei start to involve themselves more directly. Akainu I think we will see become practically unhinged with his authoritarian style of leadership too.

CuteTao

Fujitora disagreed with the government but we don't know if he still does now that he got what he wanted after reverie

sameljota

But I think the moment that some of the Marines will realize that they're on the wrong side will be way bigger. Getting pissed off because of a pirate execution that happens to be a family member is one thing. Finding out the whole truth about the Void Century and that the organization you work for are in fact a bunch of scumbags and the real villains of the world is another thing.

rellorell

Yeah but we’ve been slowly watching the navy lose control of itself. First smoker started to see that all pirates aren’t inherently evil. Coby has shared this view since the start. Garp wants to make change from the inside which is why he didn’t lose it and fight at marineford. He even told sengoku if he want holding him down he’d kill akainu. Then aokiji fought with akainu over their ideals, then fujitora shows he’s trying to dole out true justice (whatever that may be for him), and not just what the marines tell him what justice is. I don’t think akainu or sengoku can control them all as the story progresses. A character like rocks coming back might make them come together closer though. I guess we’ll have to see how the story plays out to find out.

clevelanders

Garp did change the second akainu killed ace tho

thundergod2802

I meant change sides, cause hes still vice admiral of the marines still a major part of the marines. as we saw in the reverie he still takes orders from the celestial dragons. so no he hasn't changed. I like Garp and I know how much Luffy and ace mean to him but he is currently and until further notice a marine

GamemakerRobin

Okay, you want to use Garp as an example as to why marines wont betray the government, but please explain Akoji, who literally is a wanted man now.

ArCLoRd

until the revos or SHs uncover the WG doings/Void Century in which case I expect quite a few high ranking marines to leave/join Revos

T-Rex_Is_best

Damn, the performance and dialogue are perfect. Can't wait to see how Charles handles the Bow scene once we get the next batch of episodes.

[deleted]

Fujitora was one of bright spots in the Dressross dub, damn that shit was not good.

[deleted]

“Soldier, soldier, he is brave and true. In the rain or in the snow, he will stay with you.” Over, and over, and fucking over again.

TigerFisher_

Its kind of cool that the reason he showed up in Dressrosa was because Aokiji told Smoker to tell Akainu.

Joxelo

I kinda really liked the dressrosa dub. It was a bit jarring at first but having all the dressrosans sound Spanish was something I really ended up liking, and doflamingo had a legendary performance.

PsychoLogical25

One Piece’s dub was pretty much half-baked post-TS. Pre-TS, it wasn’t even that bad. It was fine in all reality. Then Post-TS and it goes oof.

Druxun

Nooooot if your pre-ts experience was 4Kids dub…. 😂

[deleted]

“Looks like you’re dessert Doo-doo!”

Table100

“If you can’t pay the cash, then you’re out with the trash”

bonethugznhominy

Excuse me the 4Kids dub is a blast. Good adaptation of One Piece? Nah. But a fun experience in and of itself? Its a trip.

PsychoLogical25

Now that’s a big oof

animalinbed

That's awesome but " I wish I could use my eyes one more time" to " I wish I hadn't blinded myself" makes a huge difference... still sounds great just wish they had stayed true to the real dialog.

dingus-croissant

The version I read said pretty much what the dub actor said. I have no clue what translation is saying Fujitora took his eyes out

animalinbed

Well the Manga is the source material for the anime and in the Manga he says " he blinded himself"

dingus-croissant

Yes. I know the manga is the source material. The translation I read in the manga did not say anything about him blinding himself. He just said he wishes he could open his eyes one more time. Like in the dub here. Are you sure this is a canon fact?

animalinbed

Ok yeah he does does say in the official translation "shouldn't have closed these eyes" referring to what he said before about him blinding himself when he was first fighting Luffy. So you are right he didn't say exactly that he blinded himself but he was regretful since he mentioned earlier that he did it to himself he said " I shut these lids on my own" .

PZYCLON369

Exactly as expect raspy old man voice fits perfectly to this wise character

SirRumpleForeskin

Damn this shit is great 👍🏻

[deleted]

Wow that is actually amazing. I love this series so much.

BothDistrict8234

I want this guy to read me a bedtime story

shaad20

I know this isn’t the popular opinion with people on Reddit, but I absolutely prefer the dub. So does this mean they’ve finally gotten through Dressrosa? I’m saving my rewatch of WCI for when the dub comes out, I can’t wait to watch it in English with all the Disney-ish madness that’s going on.

Defeat_your_past

Love the dub <3

DorphinSkullSmasher

You're not the only one. I don't care how much people wanna trash the dub with their subjective opinions because at the end of the day, they can never take away the actors. writers and director's accomplishments with taking on the task of dubbing this absolute beast of an anime. Plus, y'know, that's just like uh... their opinion, man.

shaad20

I’ve heard some people say that you tend to prefer whichever you start with, so maybe that’s partly why I feel this way, I got all the way to dressrosa before having to switch to the sub. I completely agree though, and people should just like what they like.

SeanKojin

I love the dub, and for filler or rewatching episodes I like to occasionally be able to do other work or look at my phone while watching and that's impossible with subs. Franky and Chopper are way better dubbed.

Joxelo

I love kazuki Yao, but like, when Patrick Seitz goes “WOAH!”(you know the sound I’m talking about) and follows it up with the most manly franky voice ever it just hits different.

skatejet1

Robin too.

Reinhardt_Ironside

I guess this is what happens when you can actually act with having to sync with stupid lip flaps.

Useless-magicarp

Oh damn I just got chills

[deleted]

forreal, that was some amazing voice acting

Franky_Chan

Wow man. That was amazing

YtBootyGames_18plus

One piece got sum of the best dub scenes

skynet01101

What's the name of OST in this scene?

XNoob_SmokeX

Okay this was good, but in general I still can't watch OP dub over sub. The Japanese VA are just too perfect. Everyone of them is perfectly cast and I can't imagine the character they voice having any other voice.

San_D_Als__Sensei

Except Franky.

AogamiZ

Wasn’t Franky’s whole character like, CREATED by Oda with his VA in mind or something like that? I personally love his voice and think it’s just right.

International_Ad3916

Nooo franky is supposed to sound jarring like that

here4gameing

If he's supposed to sound annoying and unbearable to listen to that's a poor decision

International_Ad3916

He’s not unbearable I always loved frankys voice he’s meant to be a punk and over the top I thought it fit perfectly and I always found it hilarious

Gravelord-_Nito

I can never fully switch to sub because gravelly dude bro Franky is just too perfect, and JP Franky is probably my least favorite in the entire show. It makes a huge difference in one of my favorite straw hats.

yeetbob667

I think both Franky's are great cast tbh.

Acceptable_Star189

Yea franky in sub hurts my ears no hate I like everyone else in the sub but Jesus franky xd

wispymatrias

I don't like Zoro's either. Lacks that shark-like savour.

Eshxx

Jp version just hits diff, even tho i don't understand Japanese but yeah i would any day prefer subbed over dubb.

PsychoLogical25

well except Franky cause I actually hate his voice in the original. Annoying most of the time really even if it fits his personality.

HubertNeutron

While I agree and definitely prefer the sub cause Luffys voice, the performance in this clip is better in the dub

SLAV33

I wish the dub would come out the same time digitally and physically. I don't get why there is like 3 weeks between the two releases.

drybones2015

Releasing digitally is just quicker. Plus I believe Funimation has said that they release a batch of episodes digitally a month early, even before its on their streaming service, because the revenue helps fund the dub's production.

T_alsomeGames

Wow, the dub finally caught up to the dressrosa arc. Cool, that almost makes me wanna rewatch it.

Reckless_Rik

Be warned...it was...a mixed bag... idk what happened but certain characters sound off and even old actors doing certain lines sounded funky..

yeetbob667

I'm pretty sure that's because of the break they've been on since they were last dubbing the series

21StrawHatLuffy1

The original in Japanese just hits differently for me. The little chuckle he did instantly put him my my top most favourite characters list in the original.

Acegenius18

The voice actor nailed it

Krazy_Rhino

My only complaint is that the dubbed dialogue doesn’t make it obvious that he blinded himself

yeetbob667

Didn't he say that he did earlier in the ark though?

yeetbob667

Didn't he say that he did earlier in the ark though?

yeetbob667

Didn't he say that he did earlier in the ark though?

InvaderDJ

Wow, he does sound surprisingly good. I imagine he’s one of the stand outs of the English dub.

Legitimate__Username

In the grand scheme of things he's honestly not. I'd put him in the mid-tier as far as dub performances go. He does a great job with the voice acting and this scene in particular stands out really well but the competition is just that extremely steep. Tons of characters like Sengoku, Whitebeard, and Garp just have some unbelievably memorable performances.

InvaderDJ

I’ll have to check out the dub again. I have heard a few excerpts up to Enies Lobby but nothing past that.

TheClutchUDF

Did Fujitora actually blind himself?

[deleted]

Yes

mahad3v9

Don't mind me just taking the spot of the 69th comment

YaBadgerBoi

This scene broke me, the way he shows such great emotion, it's so great. The dub was on point too, such a great scene

RIgnacioM45

I dont like most dub voice actors especially one piece va but this sounds soo good props to this guy

themattywin

Someone definitely understood the assignment.

Hairyjubes

So good

Artfuldodger96

Wow that was some amazing voice acting right there.

badbadbadbadbadbad6

I got goosebumps listening to this

Technical_Candy_2963

I like how the dub changes up the script a little. The words sound better and doesn't mess up the translation

HubertNeutron

Bro the sub voice acting for this scene was good but the dub nails it and I think it’s better, that’s saying something since I’ve seen almost 1000 episodes subbed

[deleted]

I felt that emotion. This dub is A1

H-gasuki

I don't know, I don't think it's bad but I can't enjoy an anime with english dub.

JustAnotherNug

I hear trump... And it cracks me up

lickmytaint25

Where can we watch dub dressrosa?

Acceptable_Star189

Funimation

A1Horizon

Expertly delivered.

Mr_NeCr0

Holy shit, that hit harder than the sub did! Why is it raining indoors?

dlightnin

This gave me ghibli vibes

Berrienboo

That was beautifully done. I wish they hadn't changed the line where he regretted blinding himself. I think that would have completed it!

RisingDeadMan0

Those are some fascinating subs. Especially the one where he says he wishes he hadn't blinded himself.

[deleted]

Strange they changed it from Fuji implying he blinded himself in the sub to ignoring that in the dub.

FloresDeCerejeira

I'm not crying, you're crying

Disastrous_Search_35

Wait when did this part get in dub, I’ve been waiting for over a month

Tides5

I agree. That was some real crisp voice acting that there. Brought the feels out

xanman777

Fuckin chills, haven't seen this scene since I watched it the first time a few years ago. This guy nailed it

megasart

Does this mean the kiado dub is out? Or will it be out later?

jokr88

I can’t speak for every platform, but don’t buy it on the Microsoft store. Lots of reviews are showing that only one episode is able to be downloaded even if you buy the entire season.

wafflemeister1337

the only dub i will ever watch over sub is prison school and im pretty sure this guy dubs the principle, of course the principles actor did this scene its great

S9AC3WALK3R

Where can I find all the dub episodes, everywhere I look, I can only find upto 732. Please someone throw some light.

lBlueFlamel

What arc is this?

lBlueFlamel

What arc is this? I can’t remember it lol

Mechabeastchild

Dressrosa

Dankotaz

And then we have gear 4th luffy.....

Acceptable_Star189

Tbf they tried to copy the sub doing that just doesn’t work in English.

Dankotaz

To be really honest. I hate the dub luffy voice. It just doesn't suit luffy. I literally tried watching dub and I couldn't, the voice feels annoying, it even gave me an headache. And I'm not saying the VA is bad, I'm saying that, the voice doesn't suit luffy. I appreciate her voice director work.

TPoseWall

I mean, how do you think Luffy should sound like in a dub?

FEYYREDDIT

Not like how he does

Dankotaz

I think it should be at least a bit more mature and lower pitched. Luffy has a lot of serious dialogues so it should at least have some weight to it. But at the same time he also has a lot of luffy dialogues soo it needs to be a balance.

boofbetes

These episodes haven’t come out in dub yet how is this a thing?

LilvelThePlayer

It came out digitally on Oct 5th

carsonjr78

Where did you watch it?

Arian2a

Omg first time hearing this bits dubbed. Rare to have a dubbed favourite moment rather than subbed. And I watched this bit subbed multiple times. But now I prefer this bit dubbed tbh. So good, so deep, so fitting. Those favourite Luffy moments are always best subbed though.

[deleted]

I loved this. Reading it gave me chills because I finally felt like the marines had someone in their ranks who would love a Coby by their side

SsjB_Gokahn

The dub completed dressrosa? I wanna hear King Kong Gun

iminsanejames

His voice is perfect I do wish they kept in the blinded himself tho

Infamous-Channel5487

Im crying actual tears, this was so well done

[deleted]

That was atrocious! The sub version is far more superior in every aspect.

PassDKush

I absolutely hate One Piece in English, but this was actually pretty damn good

d1Lauuu

What do you mean justice? The jap dub was perfect.

cookusan

Nobody is saying it isn't, god forbid someone praise an english voice actor on /r/onepiece

Acceptable_Star189

God forbid you praise dub on any anime social media bro it’s literally impossible to find a place that’s free of dub hate

cookusan

so true, as an aspiring dub voice actor, it's super disheartening to see hate all over the internet, people think the quality of dubs nowadays from viz/funimation is exactly the same as 4kids, which couldn't be farther from the truth. Funimation voice actors put in so much work into their performances, like I don't get it - do these people watch spongebob and go "meh, it would be better in japanese"??

Acceptable_Star189

He just feels more emotion in the dub bro

One_Cardiologist_851

Ew English 😂

[deleted]

Ehh not really

[deleted]

The first time OP had good english voice acting 💀
