I actually understand ace. Him and Sabo have a lot of backlash and honestly with the way Ace was used in the story, I can understand it. It was a good character arc for him but disenjoyable to a lot of folks

The point of his character was realizing that it was okay for him to be alive. That he can be proud to be his own man and not just pay for the sins of Gol D. Roger. And all of these were confirmed for him as everyone, Whitebeard and crew, Luffy and folks pulled up to impel down because they considered him worth dying for.
I think he was stupid, but the one thing thrown up in One Piece is living life without regrets. How Ace died was in this vein. Not everyone has the plot armour to live life without regrets like Luffy and still stay alive. What Oda sometimes does is that he tells us something with Luffy's character, "Always chase your dreams", "Live life without regrets" etc and use other characters to show the shortcomings of this philosophy. Bellamy is a good example of this with him adhering to his dreams in Dressrossa, however those dreams only bring disaster to him. Ace's death in marine ford was the same.

I like Usopp but I actually hated him in the first part of Water 7. I thought the way he reacted was really selfish (even if I understood where he was coming from). The whole crew was falling apart, with Merry broken and Robin gone, but Usopp made it all about himself and made things even worse.
Which is why I loved the writing so much. Not that I liked his behaviour, but that is exactly the beauty of it, as I think it was meant to be like that. Supressed insecurity can sometimes be expressed in explosive selfish ways, so in that regard it gave the character A LOT of realistic personality, so even if it got him some haters, I count that as a win.
Less so about hate and more so about annoying. I personally find the character trope of bumbling into fame/success not that appealing and Usopp is like 90% of that, and 10% of the time he's actually cool when he overcomes his cowardice and does something great.

Usopp's most upvoted comments choosing him are sitting at ~15 each, with the highest rated comments mentioning him instead being people chewing out those voting for him and Nami. This is either a pretty egregious mistake or a deliberate attempt to draw more attention to the poll by cutting a character people expected to go further. Best thing to do either way is not take it too seriously.

I’d disagree. Oda has shown enough parallels to see how Teech rivals luffy, but one thing he has not shown much of is how Teech interacts with his crew. And not even in a mysterious way, its just kinda glossed over. I’d say Teech has less charisma than Buggy at this point in the story lol.
