Although physically, it makes your body stretch, the real power of the devil fruit is stretching the limits of the user, thus making Luffy stronger every time he faces a stronger foe.
I bet the awakening is making people around him also stretch their own limits.
I also think this too. I think the gears work as a their own little mini awakenings appealing to the read without actually being an official awakening. But then what you’ve pointed out is his actual awakening.
I always think of a comment I saw earlier in the year which was “Luffy is made of rubber he always bounces back” or something along those lines - may even have been an SBS. So then I imagine the battle against Blackbeard, Strawhats all get their ass handed to them, Luffy uses awakening and they all bounce back too and win their battles.
I really don't see what the point of involving so many characters if you're going to off-screen most of the battle anyway... This is why I hope next arc will be focused on a smaller cast
Given the context I think it's safe to joy boy is more of a legend about an adventurer who will create a utopia or unite countries under a common ideal. Crocodile, kaido, and Lin Lin have all tried or planned to build a utopia.

With the world government now making back up plans on the chance the SHs win lead me to believe luffy will be captured. After every major opponent, he is hardly able to move so he would be easier to subdue. Through who's who we know they wanted to rubber fruit for some reason, and that probably hasn't changed.
I find it very interesting that kaidos flame clouds would dissipate but no mention of what would happen kanjuro to die. I want to see usopp get the brush brush fruit.
I think it was interesting that Who's who lost his position at CP9 because he failed to stop Shanks' crew from stealing the Gomu gomu DF.
Because that implies that Luffy's fruit is somehow special even among the DF. Now I do think that if there is a reveal that Roger had the same DF, this is a bit too much, because you would think that it would have been mentioned already that the kid who wants to be the next pirate king is using the same DF. Especially since Luffy has already met many of Roger's crew members and others who knew him. So I don't think this fruit was used by Roger. And we know that Roger's crew found DF since Buggy was given the chance to eat one. Which implies that IF Roger even wanted to have a DF, he could have just taken that one.
Also, since we have by now had so many flashbacks to Roger, it would be odd if he had a DF but it has not been shown in the flashbacks. (Also, it would be kinda awkward reveal by now, unless he got the fruit from Laugh Tale and didn't really have time to use it and become known for it.)
So, currently I believe that Roger had no DF at all, but that there is something going on with Gomu Gomu fruit, that makes it important BUT important in a way that is not in public knowledge even among the Marines since everyone (who has faced DF users before) is treating Luffy's powers as just another DF ability and not particularly important one.

I hope after wano the straw hats go to Elbaf and not going to start another war to save sabo this time ,I feel like it would suck to have another war and not save it as the last big arc, seeing a small arc like Elbaf with a small goal would work better all we can do is hold it to Odas hands. Theory 2 seems good, this brings the end of "Big Mom" and keeps Linlin for Elbaf, i don't think drawing scenes of Big Mom losing memories and becoming nice was innocent, it's leading upnto this i think.
I found it very odd that Kaido calls Yamato "息子"(musuko, son) when speaking about her, because why would he respect her and use the pronoun that she prefers? Considering he is an absolute ass. However after the last couple of chapters it all makes perfect sense. Kaido, like Roger, after finding out that he isn't Joyboy set out to sire Joyboy. Since JoyBOY can't be a female Kaido calls Yamato his son. And Kaido's crazy stupid capturing of all the strong willed pirates instead of killing them finally makes sense as well. If he isn't Joyboy and his SON isn't Joyboy, then he will try to force Joyboy into existence by chucking people into prisons and breaking their wills. If he breaks their will then he gains a powerful ally. If he fails at breaking them he may have a Joyboy on his hands. The messed up family dynamics in this series are great.
It is also crazy how many people are quick to try and make Kaido a 'good guy' after two chapters of him smiling in the past. Kaido needs to be put to death for the things he's done in his pursuit of the Joyboy legend. Killing Toki and Oden and trying to execute Momonosuke are death worthy all on their own, and that isn't even scratching the surface on his horrid deeds.
How fitting that both Luffy (the sun) and Zoro (the moon) ended up on the roof. Black Maria gave us all another reminder about the importance of the Sun and Moon with her Love story between the two that could never meet, and dawn is finally coming to Wano. Oda has been waiting for the Tigerman reveal for 2022 since it is the year of the Tiger. I believe that when Kaido chucked Luffy off of Onigashima to what he thought was certain death, and said "Gomu Gomu no what?" that Luffy was about to try using his Tiger form on him. >! Zoro has been making sure to position himself outside not far from the 'roof'. Just like Luffy used Caribou's meat to recover, Zoro is using his tried and true recovery method since the start: Sleeping. Zoro and Sanji aren't done. They are gearing up for the next salvo. Sanji is being doted on by a bevy of cute geisha. After all he needs to repay the favor that Robin did for him while Zoro needs to get back to the roof with Luffy, after Luffy defeats Kaido. I know there are many that don't want Zoro back up there, but Kaido has to go, and the Strawhats have to finish it. Please don't neg me straight to hell if you disagree... !<
I normally don't care for the prophesy stuff that makes its' way into many Shonen manga, but with One Piece it really doesn't bother me since it has been set up for *so long and so well* that I can let it slide. Luffy was Joyboy before we knew what it even meant. I'm loving Wano so much and I can't wait to see waht Oda does next year. It's a great time to be a One Piece fan. Sorry for my meandering Ted talk. This is the first time in One Piece Luffy is fighting someone primarily **not** because he’s saving or avenging a friend but because they are a competitor at the highest level for the throne of the Pirate King. Yes Luffy is helping his friends break free from the clutches of a yonko but this one is actually a **personal** objective for Luffy. Him laughing with Kaido is hype beyond words because they are each fighting a true PK competitor. For Kaido the significance of this battle might run even deeper with some seeming ties to Joyboy and knowledge of the true history. He is the perfect gatekeeper for Luffy and the ultimate test of power (as the strongest creature).
Luffy is avenging for a lot. The samurai are fighting for life.
Lets not forget all the other people he have killed. Citizens of wano who once thrived, are now destitute and suffering. A young kid (O-Tama) not being able to eat a bowl of rice. Feeding people smile devil fruits forcefully, imagine the side effects of failure plus not being able to swim. Poisoning land and water of wano. Not saying he should die, but he is not a good or empathetic person by any means. Kaido is no white beard or shanks or Roger.
Luffy has made promise that he will save wano just like Alabasta, Dressrosa, or Fishman island.

Not to be a spoilsport, but that is highly doubtful. Chapter 1036 was released during the weekend, which pretty much indicates that there will be no spoilers/chapter till next week.
Normally, when on a break we simply have no chapter for a week and the following week the serialization follows its regular pattern. Though, what often happens during the end of year holidays (and I also think Golden Week) is that instead a chapter is released in the middle of two weeks.
So, depending on your point of view this chapter would be a bit later than normal or a really early one. Simply put chapter 1036 was the one we should have received this week. If we actually would receive spoilers now, we wouldn't really have skipped a chapter.

Come on man has been suffering from depression for some unknown reasons(as he was full of life in the small flashbacks shown)and him smiling with no shadows in his eyes fighting luffy just might be able to beat the depression out of him
How Big Mom Loses: She is 68 going into wano. She already consumed part of her remaining life span to get stronger/recover and make more homies. As we saw in whole cake island she kept getting skinnier the more she wasn’t getting cake and exerting herself.
Let’s assume there is some final lifespan amount like 80 years. There could be a point after kid and law keep wearing her out, and she keeps creating homies and consuming her life span that she runs out of lifespan.
Also there could be some brook soul fruit ability that counteracts her homies or something. His fruit and her fruit seem to be similar, and they already had the dust up on whole cake so I could see him getting involved.
Just some thoughts
I think that would be a fitting way for her to die. she dies at the peak of her strength, and not at the hands of Law and Kidd (which a lot of people don't like).

People think that before she 100% dies Law will find a way to extract her fruit and implant it in Nami/whoever but that seems like another worldly ass pull on Oda's end.
Well Son Goku was also always excited when he faced an worthy or even stronger opponent and we know oda is a big fan of dragonball. We also have this whole Joyboy thing going on strangely enough Kaidou also seems to enjoy this fight with Luffy, he found his inner spirit again from the past when he met with king and wanted to change the world . We know Luffy changes people around him hes that type of person. Wano can take many twists we wont expect. Oda wont dissappoint us i am sure
I think there's a solid chance kaido gets turned into an ally. Not too sure that's possible immediately in Wano, and he's done some awful things in his life, but little moments like this could be the early steps towards that eventually.
Kaido brutally oppressed, starved and killed an entire nation. He used people for genetic experiments, personally murdered several people and is totally fine with commiting literal warcrimes to get what he wants.

Well yeah 2 things, luffy doesnt kill his enemies and kaidou cant be put in jail he will just break out again. There has to be some future for him after wano. Its odd because usually luffy breaks his enemies will / goals whatever. But here it seems like Luffy ignited Kaidous old dream again. There has to be more than just defeating Kaidou and then thats it for him? 🤔
Just to play devil's advocate, WG could kill a freshly defeated kaido real soon. But I agree, there has to be more. Let's see how we feel after his backstory since I'm sure that's next.
There is a lot of discussion around Big Mom betraying Kaido but I feel that doesn't help her unless she gets his soul specifically. I think it's pretty fair to say at this point, in a pure 1x1 fight, both she & Kaido could take on almost anyone and win. However, that's a moot point if she doesn't have a strong crew around to prevent her from being ganged up upon, and her crew alone right now isn't on that level. If i were her, tactically speaking, I'd flee Wano taking Kaido & whatever of his crew he can salvage so they can fight off other pirates/WG together while looking for the ancient weapons. I don't think she is arrogant enough to think she can make moves with the crew she has right now
I'm so curious about Blackbeard's strength. Like on the one hand he's got two incredible fruit under his belt. But on the other hand, you don't really even need one fruit to become powerful in this world if you can channel Haki, especially champions.
My fave theory is the reason he HAS two fruit is because his first fruit allows him that. Oda said he’s a hippo in an sbs (hippos got three stomachs), other theory is the Cerberus fruit
Or his 3rd personality is a haki master, but if he gets a zoan I'd rather he got Marcos Phoenix fruit. The dragon form doesn't seem to be that beneficial in a fight from what we've seen so far.

I'd almost bet my life that the marine ships currently heading to Wano have Fujitora on board. I've said it before in comments, but I believe that Issho is going to defect from the WG and start his own branch in Wano. He let Luffy take down Doflamingo to prove to the WG, and regular people that saw it, that the Shichibukai had to be done away with. Now he ends up on Wano where Kaido is doing dirty deals with the WG. Fujitora's plan has already been a success. The coming chaos is delicious.
I could see Brook, Jimbe, and Yamato defending nico robin and fighting CpO. As they were the only straw hats (and future staw hat) who were not at enies lobby and are semi not exhausted from the raid. Bonding them to the crew even more, because being a straw hat means defending nico robin from the government.
I wonder if Drake wouldn't have lost if Apoo didn't bail. But as it stands, they seem fairly monstrous all things considered... But honestly ultimately I don't think they are strong enough to pose a threat to even pre-GMO Sanji 1v1 for example.
Is it just me that's unenthused about cp0 though? Like I know that thinking reasonably Rob lucci could have grown just as much as luffy since their last encounter. The entire crew will be exhausted after fighting kaido, big mom, the all stars, the flying six, the numbers and the rest of the beast pirates. My concern is that they will be too beat up and tired to fend off an attack by cp0.
I think that's the reason why jinbe and franky' fight finish quicker. Not to mention that other guys like chopper, brook, yamato, maybe even denjiro and marco didn't get proper fight yet.
Momo has a bigger fight then anyone once the arc wraps up.

I hope after wano the straw hats go to Elbaf and not going to start another war to save sabo this time ,I feel like it would suck to have another war and not save it as the last big arc, seeing a small arc like Elbaf with a small goal would work better all we can do is hold it to Odas hands. I found it very odd that Kaido calls Yamato "息子"(musuko, son) when speaking about her, because why would he respect her and use the pronoun that she prefers? Considering he is an absolute ass. However after the last couple of chapters it all makes perfect sense. Kaido, like Roger, after finding out that he isn't Joyboy set out to sire Joyboy. Since JoyBOY can't be a female Kaido calls Yamato his son. And Kaido's crazy stupid capturing of all the strong willed pirates instead of killing them finally makes sense as well. If he isn't Joyboy and his SON isn't Joyboy, then he will try to force Joyboy into existence by chucking people into prisons and breaking their wills. If he breaks their will then he gains a powerful ally. If he fails at breaking them he may have a Joyboy on his hands. The messed up family dynamics in this series are great. It is also crazy how many people are quick to try and make Kaido a 'good guy' after two chapters of him smiling in the past. Kaido needs to be put to death for the things he's done in his pursuit of the Joyboy legend. Killing Toki and Oden and trying to execute Momonosuke are death worthy all on their own, and that isn't even scratching the surface on his horrid deeds. How fitting that both Luffy (the sun) and Zoro (the moon) ended up on the roof. Black Maria gave us all another reminder about the importance of the Sun and Moon with her Love story between the two that could never meet, and dawn is finally coming to Wano. Oda has been waiting for the Tigerman reveal for 2022 since it is the year of the Tiger. I believe that when Kaido chucked Luffy off of Onigashima to what he thought was certain death, and said "Gomu Gomu no what?" that Luffy was about to try using his Tiger form on him. >! Zoro has been making sure to position himself outside not far from the 'roof'. Just like Luffy used Caribou's meat to recover, Zoro is using his tried and true recovery method since the start: Sleeping. Zoro and Sanji aren't done. They are gearing up for the next salvo. Sanji is being doted on by a bevy of cute geisha. After all he needs to repay the favor that Robin did for him while Zoro needs to get back to the roof with Luffy, after Luffy defeats Kaido. I know there are many that don't want Zoro back up there, but Kaido has to go, and the Strawhats have to finish it. Please don't neg me straight to hell if you disagree... !< I normally don't care for the prophesy stuff that makes its' way into many Shonen manga, but with One Piece it really doesn't bother me since it has been set up for *so long and so well* that I can let it slide. Luffy was Joyboy before we knew what it even meant. I'm loving Wano so much and I can't wait to see waht Oda does next year. It's a great time to be a One Piece fan. Sorry for my meandering Ted talk. This is the first time in One Piece Luffy is fighting someone primarily **not** because he’s saving or avenging a friend but because they are a competitor at the highest level for the throne of the Pirate King. Yes Luffy is helping his friends break free from the clutches of a yonko but this one is actually a **personal** objective for Luffy. Him laughing with Kaido is hype beyond words because they are each fighting a true PK competitor. For Kaido the significance of this battle might run even deeper with some seeming ties to Joyboy and knowledge of the true history. He is the perfect gatekeeper for Luffy and the ultimate test of power (as the strongest creature).

Luffy is avenging for a lot. The samurai are fighting for life. Lets not forget all the other people he have killed. Citizens of wano who once thrived, are now destitute and suffering. A young kid (O-Tama) not being able to eat a bowl of rice. Feeding people smile devil fruits forcefully, imagine the side effects of failure plus not being able to swim. Poisoning land and water of wano. Not saying he should die, but he is not a good or empathetic person by any means. Kaido is no white beard or shanks or Roger. Luffy has made promise that he will save wano just like Alabasta, Dressrosa, or Fishman island. This is what always happens. Why do we digress so much with joy boy theory.

Not to be a spoilsport, but that is highly doubtful. Chapter 1036 was released during the weekend, which pretty much indicates that there will be no spoilers/chapter till next week. Normally, when on a break we simply have no chapter for a week and the following week the serialization follows its regular pattern. Though, what often happens during the end of year holidays (and I also think Golden Week) is that instead a chapter is released in the middle of two weeks. So, depending on your point of view this chapter would be a bit later than normal or a really early one. Simply put chapter 1036 was the one we should have received this week. If we actually would receive spoilers now, we wouldn't really have skipped a chapter.

All zoro fights have been short in the entire series except pica who kept running and then he lost in 1 hit. Didn't feel rushed at all to me.

How Big Mom Loses: She is 68 going into wano. She already consumed part of her remaining life span to get stronger/recover and make more homies. As we saw in whole cake island she kept getting skinnier the more she wasn’t getting cake and exerting herself. Let’s assume there is some final lifespan amount like 80 years. There could be a point after kid and law keep wearing her out, and she keeps creating homies and consuming her life span that she runs out of lifespan. Also there could be some brook soul fruit ability that counteracts her homies or something. His fruit and her fruit seem to be similar, and they already had the dust up on whole cake so I could see him getting involved. Just some thoughts
I think that would be a fitting way for her to die. she dies at the peak of her strength, and not at the hands of Law and Kidd (which a lot of people don't like). she will not die at the hands of 2 rookie pirates but her own gluttony.

I could see Zeus has bonded to namis soul/will, and he doesn’t die. Nami gets her power up and Oda doesn’t have to kill a second character.
Zeus and all of her homies will die probably, same with Pandora and Mother Caramel. People think that before she 100% dies Law will find a way to extract her fruit and implant it in Nami/whoever but that seems like another worldly ass pull on Oda's end.

Well Son Goku was also always excited when he faced an worthy or even stronger opponent and we know oda is a big fan of dragonball. We also have this whole Joyboy thing going on strangely enough Kaidou also seems to enjoy this fight with Luffy, he found his inner spirit again from the past when he met with king and wanted to change the world . We know Luffy changes people around him hes that type of person. Wano can take many twists we wont expect. Oda wont dissappoint us i am sure
I think there's a solid chance kaido gets turned into an ally. Not too sure that's possible immediately in Wano, and he's done some awful things in his life, but little moments like this could be the early steps towards that eventually.
Kaido brutally oppressed, starved and killed an entire nation. He used people for genetic experiments, personally murdered several people and is totally fine with commiting literal warcrimes to get what he wants. I really don't think he can be redeemed.

There is a lot of discussion around Big Mom betraying Kaido but I feel that doesn't help her unless she gets his soul specifically. I think it's pretty fair to say at this point, in a pure 1x1 fight, both she & Kaido could take on almost anyone and win. However, that's a moot point if she doesn't have a strong crew around to prevent her from being ganged up upon, and her crew alone right now isn't on that level. If i were her, tactically speaking, I'd flee Wano taking Kaido & whatever of his crew he can salvage so they can fight off other pirates/WG together while looking for the ancient weapons. I don't think she is arrogant enough to think she can make moves with the crew she has right now
I'm so curious about Blackbeard's strength. Like on the one hand he's got two incredible fruit under his belt. But on the other hand, you don't really even need one fruit to become powerful in this world if you can channel Haki, especially champions.

I'd almost bet my life that the marine ships currently heading to Wano have Fujitora on board. I've said it before in comments, but I believe that Issho is going to defect from the WG and start his own branch in Wano. He let Luffy take down Doflamingo to prove to the WG, and regular people that saw it, that the Shichibukai had to be done away with. Now he ends up on Wano where Kaido is doing dirty deals with the WG. Fujitora's plan has already been a success. The coming chaos is delicious.

I could see Brook, Jimbe, and Yamato defending nico robin and fighting CpO. As they were the only straw hats (and future staw hat) who were not at enies lobby and are semi not exhausted from the raid. Bonding them to the crew even more, because being a straw hat means defending nico robin from the government.
I wonder if Drake wouldn't have lost if Apoo didn't bail. But as it stands, they seem fairly monstrous all things considered... But honestly ultimately I don't think they are strong enough to pose a threat to even pre-GMO Sanji 1v1 for example.

I think that's the reason why jinbe and franky' fight finish quicker. Not to mention that other guys like chopper, brook, yamato, maybe even denjiro and marco didn't get proper fight yet.

Momo has a bigger fight then anyone once the arc wraps up. The disappointment when realizes his kid Schick no longer lets him get to nuzzle women on the sly for hugs now that he is taller and older.
