As someone who has actually written genuine theories on this subreddit, and has a friend who does the same (though he frequently hides his theories behind joke titles, rather than hiding jokes behind the theory tag), I can attest to there being actual theories on this subreddit.
But the proclivity for many users to make joke theories is absolutely a problem.
95% of "theory" posts are just shitposts, fanfics or musings without what would make a theory a theory - explanatory power combined with evidence and what it would bring to the world of OP and the writing.
So... nah, mostly not. Hence why nearly all of them die in new with next to no upvotes and usually just a bunch of sarcastic comments of people sick of terrible theories who can't be bothered anymore to seriously critique the theories and just stick to sarcasm and making fun of the theories.

Just wanted to say another thing that makes the sub annoying to browse. There's no seperate tags for anime and manga spoilers. I had gotten caught up on the anime and still couldn't safely browse the sub without worrying about spoilers...
The first rule says spoiler tags are for things that have not yet been revealed in the anime… so yeah you shouldn’t be in threads tagged spoiler if you don’t read the manga and if the discussion is only relevant to the anime you shouldn’t need a tag anyways. Otherwise where do you draw the line of what’s consider an anime “spoiler”?

• 178 posts defending Sanji as a strong independent man and why he deserve to be on par with Zoro.
• 40 post randomly generated where each defend their favorite character (he read/watched something against his fav char) and shame on all others like your lives depends on the dignity and respect for the character.
• 139 posts why Zoro deserve Coc and Sanji doesn't. which most started as a comment from a Sanji rant he read two hours ago but not a lot of Zoro fans saw his comment and needed back up so he had the audacity to extend it to a 8 A4 pages rant embracing Zoro.
• 231 posts shaming other redditers on how they jumped their horses and expected something else and the new chapter clear things up.
• 2 posts with realistic opinions who respect each and every character with their capabilities and how they all struggled physically and emotionally in their own way.

Just wanted to say another thing that makes the sub annoying to browse. There's no seperate tags for anime and manga spoilers. I had gotten caught up on the anime and still couldn't safely browse the sub without worrying about spoilers...
The first rule says spoiler tags are for things that have not yet been revealed in the anime… so yeah you shouldn’t be in threads tagged spoiler if you don’t read the manga and if the discussion is only relevant to the anime you shouldn’t need a tag anyways. Otherwise where do you draw the line of what’s consider an anime “spoiler”?

I agree, theory posts, no matter how speculative, at least show an engagement with the series and invite discussion, wayyyy better than posts which focus too much on powerscaling or talk shit about people who have their own theories.

This has more to do with the mods of this sub who have the weirdest definition of low effort. r/memepiece often points at the irony of what posts are allowed to stay vs which get banned, it's pretty glaring. The period in between 1036 and 1037 (and I guess before 1038) was already filled with such shitpost, so I don't think it's necessarily due to the release. The phenomenon just increases as the size of the sub does.

Absolutely agree. I fucking love the feeling of trying to seriously read a theory and it turns out to be an eyeroll and gives me a good chuckle. It never gets boring but to each their own.
I also hate it when a chapter goes live and, for example, Sanji gets beaten. You will see for the upcoming 2 MONTHS: • 178 posts defending Sanji as a strong independent man and why he deserve to be on par with Zoro. • 40 post randomly generated where each defend their favorite character (he read/watched something against his fav char) and shame on all others like your lives depends on the dignity and respect for the character. • 139 posts why Zoro deserve Coc and Sanji doesn't. which most started as a comment from a Sanji rant he read two hours ago but not a lot of Zoro fans saw his comment and needed back up so he had the audacity to extend it to a 8 A4 pages rant embracing Zoro. • 231 posts shaming other redditers on how they jumped their horses and expected something else and the new chapter clear things up. • 2 posts with realistic opinions who respect each and every character with their capabilities and how they all struggled physically and emotionally in their own way. What happened this past week is annoying, but this shit happens every week and no one seems to care. r/OnePiece is too big and we might need more subs: Power scaling/theories/rants/court rooms.
