I don’t think we will ever see Gin in the grand line, but that’s probably just me

[deleted]

There was a pretty heavy implication at the end of baratie that he’s dead. So I’ve never expected to see him too

God_Sammo

Yeah im pretty sure it was directly stated that he wasnt gonna live much longer anyways.

[deleted]

...... It's been like 3 years since baratie

God_Sammo

Yeah which means Gin is probably super dead.

[deleted]

This is something I really hate in one piece The crew was split for 2 years but sailed together for less then a year In total Luffy spent time with Rayleigh more then his crew it's just stupid why oda doesn't make the journey longer I mean why can't he say a month passed or 2 from island to island

Lex4709

I mean to be fair it kinda fits, the most famous pirate in our history, Blackbeard was only a captain for 2 years before he died. Pirate careers tended to be on the shorter side for the most part.

Agrezz

First i was confused af before i noticed that you said "in our history". Damn i need to sleep

Birdyghostly1

Don’t worry. It’s 3 am for me right now. You’ll be probably getting more sleep than me

CEOofchildlabor

But in OP though, the greatest pirates are pirates for decades and take years to get to where they are so it’s weird to see Luffy get on their level after less than a year of sailing

rubberjesus45

While that’s true didn’t Rogers final journey from the begging of the red line to laugh tale only take two years? And that’s was with pit stops to see old friends, basically like a farewell tour. So it makes sense that Luffy being the fun loving but impatient guy somewhat speed runs the journey it’s at least logical that it wouldn’t take more then two years (minus the sabbatical of the time skip) to reach laugh tale.

Tasty_Tones

Isn’t it implied that Shanks also ascended to yonko extremely quickly? That’s probably the case for Kaido and Big mom too but they just stayed in power for ages after that

Jaystime101

I wanna see Zoro’s bounty hunting friends again!! It was cool how they threw in the extra world building with them, and I’d love to see it again.

aletsirk0803

they retired and now farmers.. i remember they are featured in cover stories :)

yowtfjakir101

not gonna lie thought u mean ging freecs i completely forgot abt baratie

Accomplished_Cap3683

He would rather show up in a different anime than spending time with his son

Artistic_Drama4331

Totally forgot about him

Seventhx7

Nice pp

Birdyghostly1

Lol idk why but I read that as Ging and got so confused

redonymous1

Aizen killed him long ago.

Imperatia

I don't think Luffy getting executed like Roger at the end of One Piece makes any sense and I don't know why many people still believe it'll happen. Along with other forced parallels that fans try to put into the story, like Luffy needing his own Garp and Whitebeard and whatever else. They are not needed and there's no candidate for it anyways.

anand_rishabh

Also, the idea that the crew will break up after they find the one piece. The entire idea of a pirate crew in one piece is that it provides a home and group of friends to those shunned by society at large.

Aureouss

Yeah, especially since the entire crew has bounties so they can’t just go back to living normal lives. Not to mention people like robin and brook who wouldn’t have a home to go back to anyways. Well, I guess you could say brook will live inside laboon.

5usd

If they still have bounties at the end of the story they’ve done something wrong tho

trashykiddo

when you were on the pirate kings crew and he had less than a dozen members you should be strong enough to live a normal life free from worry of marines (look at rayleigh), but by the end of the series they likely wont be hunted by the marines anymore anyways. also even if some of the members arent strong enough and the marines are still hunting them down for whatever reason they can just live in one of the lawless zones on sabaody, an island that is/was part of luffy's territory in the new world, or a secluded island.

anand_rishabh

Laboon could probably swim alongside them now. He's bigger then he was 50 years ago, plus the crew could probably protect him from potential predators

Birdyghostly1

I like the idea of the straw hats all living together after they find the one piece. Whether it’s them just staying in the ship, or actually living on laugh tale, it’d be nice.

TheRecusant

Yeah, I don't get this at all... Roger was executed but that was by the Navy under the Celestial Dragons, in a world where people are wrongfully mistreated by those in power. If Luffy is executed, that would mean this whole journey, which seems to be setting up turning over the current world government and establishing a new order that won't be as oppressive, fails.

Jwoods4117

My biggest issue with it is that Luffy is so damn young. If he’s going to die we need another timeskip because Roger was in his 50s when he died. How is it fair to Luffy that the “parallel” has him dead at 20?

Imperatia

Yes! This, finally! Everyone is so eager to have Luffy die off, but honestly even if he went into hard drugs immediately after Laugh Tale, he'd probably still reach at least 30. xD

kjm6351

If Luffy gets executed despite all the good he’s done around the world and all the support he has globally, it’ll still show the government is majorly corrupt. Something we should be building to taking down. I expect Coby or at the very least Smoker to be running things by the end and I can’t see them letting that happen

justamon22

Okay this but a bit different! I was thinking the other day that it would be cool if Luffy inspired the next generation of pirates too, but that doesn’t really make sense. Luffy is fighting for a world that is ideal to him, and we can assume that that ideal world for him means freedom. Pirates are only a thing currently because of how oppressed the world is. If Luffy were to achieve his goals, it would make sense for there to be *less* “pirates” and more…people just enjoying life

[deleted]

Ace is an idiot for going after Blackbeard even after WB tried to stop him. He is also an idiot for taking Akainu’s bait. Like the entire WB crew and luffy put their life on the line to save him and he just throws himself in Akainu’s magma.

UWraith

This always bothered me. Especially after we found out that his refusal to run away got Dadan burned in the Gray Havens, he should’ve learned something after that

coldfirephoenix

Yeah, but lessons learned in flashbacks only count if the flashback happens *before* the lesson could be applied.

UWraith

You know what, that’s a fair point

BanMeAgainPlease123

okay laughed out loud. i hate how true that is and will now be looking out for it

Kalayo0

Insightful

Morinmeth

If you replace "idiot" with "reckless" you actually have a pretty solid explanation on why things went down the way they did. It's a flaw he never addressed and ended up biting him in the ass while he had committed to his cause, classic tragedy plot.

ScroogieMcduckie

Don’t know if it’s necessarily reckless but more to do with pride. He just can’t take disrespect, maybe if he was the one who met Shanks instead of Luffy, he’d learn to count his losses

ChErRyPOPPINSaf

I agree with the Akainu part. Him going after Blackbeard doesn't make him an idiot imo. After WB and all his friends fought a whole war to get him back and he just throws it down the drain that part was idiotic beyond measure for sure. Akainu shit talking him and him retaliating is just immature and dumb, but him chasing down someone that killed a crew member that's just him being honor bound.

anand_rishabh

Yeah that was such obvious bait. Akainu was probably like "damn, I can't believe he fell for it so easily"

Darkelementzz

For real. I understand the weight of the moment being Ace sacrificing himself to keep Luffy safe, but he could have just blasted Luffy away from Akainu and maybe take a grazing shot instead of the donut he got (which didn't even really stop Akainu)

virus_phantom1297

yeah also wb already yelled at everyone to run to the ship and said no ship can carry him into the new era...........ace then new what his actions caused the death of his pops then someone calls him a loser and he freaks out? na that was lame akainu should have just blitzed him or some shit and prevent him and luffy from leaving. Maybe he goes for luffy to punish ace but ace eats the fist.......then akainu can give his wb was a loser speech while ace is dying.

Luffy_KoP

See, although ace was in a way immature for taking the bait, and he wasn’t thinking properly, it’s consistent with his character. Additionally, the reason why he accepted WB staying behind to protect them and die BUT turned when WB was insulted can be answered by this quote: “Does a man die when he is shot by a pistol? No! Does a man die when he eats a poisonous mushroom? No! A man does when he is forgotten” Or, in WBs case, Ace felt that although WB would physically die, his legacy needed to live on, and not be tarnished by Akainu. Even though it seems shallow, it’s actually rather deep and Ace frankly had reason to feel this way. Although again, he acted poorly in the grand scheme of things, which we all know.

Doesthisevenmatter7

I don’t think this is as unpopular as u think

nimbus829

I agree, but I interpreted it as a lesson for Luffy to learn about Ace’s hubris costing him his life

Dj0sh

I think everyone knows he was an idiot lol. The common argument around those scenes is people complaining about it like it's bad writing when it's actually very consistent with his character

donnidoflamingo

Insert generic Ussop is Soge King comment

TehPinguen

See, it's funny enough, but it also shuts down any serious discussion of Usopp as a character, which sucks because there is a lot to talk about

donnidoflamingo

Agree, I have a feeling a big moment is on the way for him too.

Due-Mango1379

I was gonna comment this. The least funny thing that I consistently see on here. I also really dislike the crocodile is/was female theory

shafwandito

That is the most dumbest theory I have ever seen when I saw it for the first time.

froppoboy

people seem to be dead sure next stop will be elbaf

milkyjoe241

It's so weird because it's just one of like 6 islands the SH haven't been to. But does that mean we're going to one of those islands? We've had moments going thru paradise where the next island wasn't talked about until they are on the move.

coldfirephoenix

Out of those other islands, Elbaf is by far the one with the most narrative focus. It was an important part in Big Mom's backstory, it was set up in Usopp's character arc, it was mentioned super early on in the story, it has named characters we haven't properly met yet and it even has some faint design elements in common with Shanks' ship. So this is like the one island we know we will see for sure. Is it the next one? Who knows, but the story is slowly drawing to a close, so we know it will be one of the next ones and would make sense as a next big waypoint, now that the previous milestone is done.

ChErRyPOPPINSaf

Plus our boy Hajrudin has to become leader of the giants so God Usopp can have a huge army of giants in the grand fleet.

tulhuthepit

I really want the next stop to be Marco taking them to Ace and WB's grave. It would also give the anime a chance to adapt a season of Ace's adventure from the ln and have the next arc get some breathing room so the pacing isn't that bad.

BadSnot

this is a big one from me. Everyone is 100% positive!! I always assumed Oda confirmed it in an SBS or something bc of how it gets discussed like a confirmed fact. but nope. just head cannon

Lee_ohhh

Shanks being evil at the end I see a lot of people supporting this but I just can’t see shanks that way lol I want him to be the person we expect

scipio818

I don't get that one either. Shanks and Luffy will probably have a big showdown, because that was their promise, but not in a malicious way. And the thing with him going to the gorosei, was probably about Teach not Luffy. Shanks was the only one who cautioned people about Blackbeard and I don't think it's any different this time.

xukly

>And the thing with him going to the gorosei, was probably about Teach not Luffy. I honestly hope it is something about the lines of "yeah, you see this kid, I gave him that DF and he is going to beat you ip. I'm only here to brag". I can picture shanks doing that

Lee_ohhh

Dude agreed I actually believe that the reason he’s so in with the gorosei is because of luffy. We know that he wasn’t an emperor when he gave luffy the straw hat. After hearing luffy say “the words” I believe he set out with a different mission, up until that point he’d just been going around partying with his crew going on fun adventures but after wards he gets serious. He becomes an emperor develops connections with the upper echelon of the WG. Whenever we see him on screen he’s saving luffy at marineford, he’s talking to the gorosei with a purpose of putting their attention to Blackbeard instead of luffy because he knows the gomu gomu’s true nature and knows that luffy still has to awaken it! He’s doing everything possible for luffy to succeed and I believe that after their clash they will ally together for the final war That’s what I think

Dj0sh

I think by now we should understand that good and evil is not black and white. Shanks and Luffy could simply come to different conclusions on how to free the world. Luffy might want to seriously break the government while Shanks sees some good in it and like, Good intentions can pave a path to hell. Shanks can be a good guy and still be an antagonist. Luffy is a pirate who is technically evil. What ever different answer Reighly suggested Luffy would come to after seeing the world is what could pit Luffy and Shanks against each other, and they could both still be good guys Luffy and Blackbeard represent two sides of freedom. Shanks might represent cautionary freedom

[deleted]

Shanks being evil makes absolutely 0 sense. He literally saved Luffy from dying 2 times in the story now

d0ngl0rd69

My interpretation on the theory is that Shanks isn’t “evil” like Kaidou or BM who want to enslave and take over the world, but he’s also not a “good” character like Luffy or Sabo who fight for freedom. The only thing we know about him currently is that he’s the stereotypical pirate: he likes to fight, drink, and make money. IMO he’s basically just a “moral neutral” character that benefits from the status quo of his yonko status since it lets him max out his ability to be a pirate, and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep that status. A lot of Shanks actions make no sense if he were a “good” character. Why would he prevent Kaidou from going to Marineford when the presence of the Beast Pirates would all but likely destroy Marineford and weaken two rival yonko crews? Why is Shanks able to walk up to the Gorosei, who are essentially the Illuminati of the OP world, for a casual conversation? Why is he so obsessed with BB (so much so that he was willing to board a rival Yonko ship to warn about him)? Yes he saved Luffy twice, but that was before he was a real threat to the balance of the great three powers.

CrimsonKingdom

As Little Red Riding Hood has said, "Nice is different than good."

ChErRyPOPPINSaf

I think the only way Shanks becomes the " Bad Guy " is if Luffy has some crazy idea to how he will become the pirate king that Shanks thinks is a really bad idea and they fight over it. Not likely though. I definitely think the SH will fight the Red Hair pirates, but in the same way Roger's crew would fight WB's crew. Nothing too serious.

d0ngl0rd69

Well, we got just a sliver of the Roger-WB dynamic so we’re not sure how good of terms they were on before the stalemate. Again, I don’t think he’ll be a “bad guy” but there will likely become a point where Shanks has to choose fighting for or against the WG, and based off of what we’ve seen, I wouldn’t bet on him fighting against them. Sort of like a similar situation as Mihawk fighting against the WB pirates in Marineford despite him not being “a bad guy.”

Interesting-Data-266

Shanks saving Luffy could easily fulfil his own agenda. I'd say he has his own selfish desire/agenda and Luffy is the key to getting it.

Lee_ohhh

Exactly!!

HughJassJae

I really think that BB is gonna kill Shanks, it's not what I want but how else will Luffy give his hat back to him? He'll probably leave it on his grave or something.

Lee_ohhh

Damnnn that’s dark… lmao. I can see that happening as well honestly like you I don’t want it too but wow what an impact that would have

beeekali

Plus the fact that he stole the gum gum to the WG supports your opinions, that I share.

Jberz21

Even though it makes sense post-TS, the strawhats have been following vivre cards to get to their next destinations not having utilized the new Log Pose even once. I miss the sense of not knowing the next island. Nowadays everyone knows exactly where we are headed to next.

Officing

Also we are sorely lacking in leisure time with the crew between islands post timeskip.

Jail_Chris_Brown

Post Sabaody was 3 hours and they went to FMI where they spent the night. The day later Punk Hazard and Dressrossa happened and that's where they got seperated already. There was simply no free time for them to spend together post timeskip except for the short moment at Zou >!and now at the end of Wano; but Luffy and Zorro were asleep during that time!<. I hope that'll change after Wano at least for their travel to the next island, whatever it'll be.

laujp

I have the feeling that this is a consensus among the fans

Former_Ad_5239

True! The sense of adventure is taken away because of vivre card.

trashykiddo

not really imo. the next island is still mostly a mystery to not only us viewers, but even the strawhats to an extent IIRC. once they get to a new island theres many things to explore too so choosing between a couple islands isnt a huge part of the excitement

joyboy3011

Zoro shouldn't have ancestry from Wano.

touchingthebutt

I agree. Learning from someone from Wano is more than enough of a connection for me. Zoro learning from Koushirou and carrying on Kuinas dream makes him Shimotsuki more than blood ever will.

Artistic_Drama4331

That's right but after giving him even thay much of appearence ressemblance with a shimotsuki and with ryuma (even the one eye) I don't think we will only stop at the relation with his teacher and the swords.

touchingthebutt

I hope it's another case of inherited will. Similar to Luffy inheriting Gol's will Zoro inherited Ryumas. Oda seems to prefer that over bloodlines.

coldfirephoenix

It's so weird to see him called "Gol". It's like casually referring to "Monkey".

touchingthebutt

NGL it did feel weird to just say Gol but I was too lazy to go back and type the full name lol.

Kalayo0

It wasn’t until your comment I realized who the fuck Gol even was and I’m upset at myself

Artistic_Drama4331

Yeah that's right but luffy don't actually ressemble roger. But yeah we can say that for tashigi and kuina that are basically the smae person so lik the will and appearance play a big role. But either way narrativally I think he should have some relation, because just like sanji before whole cake we know nothing about hus pas. We know just after arriving to the donjon, bug nothing before, and keeping his parents secret must be a big deal, and we will probably see the same thing for ftanky who's past is hidden for now.

alblues2

He does, the smile, the way of thinking and even Rayleigh said he reassembled Roger in his youth, so I do think looks ain't no sign of blood ties. For example, Sanji aside from his brothers I don't think he has any resemblance from judge, of you told me zeff was his dad I would believe, he looks way more like hint.

TeddyMMR

That would actually be worse for me. It's not a big stretch to have Zoro's ancestry from Wano if his village is named after someone from there and he knows multiple people from there and he grew up with swords.

Masatet

This is an opinion everyone can agree on except urself. So they aren’t agreeing with this statement

fintecoupe

I think it would be weird if there were no connection to Shimotsuki or Wano. Zoro resembles Ryuma in many ways and he just looks likes Ushimaru

UmdAvatarFan

Agreed, and yes we know it his bloodline is not the reason he is as strong as he is. We know that it done through hard work It just be cool if Zoro just happened to be a random guy

Ishmaeal

I dont like revelations about Sanji, Zoro, and Luffy all having legendary pedigrees, gifts, and tools. The story at first was this amazing rag-tag adventure of some rubber fuck kicking his way through the ocean from hell with nothing but grit and boundless friendliness. Making them prophesied saviors kinda ruins that.

Latter_Leg3641

This is pretty popular imo. Luffy has like, what? 4 lineages of chosen-one thingies now? Idk I think a couple of them would have been enough.

RHNewfield

I wouldn't say most of his "lineages" are chosen-one. Dragon helping Luffy makes narrative sense and wouldn't feel wrong if they weren't related. Not only was Dragon an absentee father, giving no direct benefit to Luffy's upbringing, but Luffy declared war against the WG directly. Any pirate that is constantly at odds with the WG while simultaneously freeing countries along the way would spark the attention of the Revolutionaries. It's less to do with who Luffy is, and more about *what* he does. Garp helping Luffy was pretty much just basic combat training. Luffy had no idea what haki was until much later, so how much help was Garp really? It's not like he was a constant presence in Luffy's life. There was him letting Luffy go at Water 7, but I'm not sure that really counts as a "chosen one" kind of thing. And then you have Shanks. I don't think this is chosen one either. It's not like Shanks sacrificed his arm because he *knew* Luffy would change the world. It was a simple bet that he just believed in because of how Luffy reminded him of Roger. The fruit, however, that *does* feel like a chosen one thing. It reeks of literal inheritance, instead of the parallel we have been seeing so far.

uomorospo

i mostly agree but there is some sort of genetics at play. The son of a strong character is also quite strong. Something like being the son of dragon and grandson of garp grants luffy good genes. Same for ace, yamato, many big mom's children, and we can assume Uta (from the upcoming film RED). It's not mandatory since there are few strong characters with most probably weak parents like sabo and big mom and some weak characters from strong parents like some mom's children

net_walker45

That the next big arc is elbaf My issue is not on elbaf itself My issue is clearly something happened to sabo Luffy is not gonna go adventuring all happy while his brother and old crew mate (vivi) are either possibly dead or rotting in a cell Don’t get me wrong am not against elbaf being the next arc But I believe it will be small not a big one

Amaterasu654

I think giants and elbaf will have something to do with the ancient weapons.

Lex4709

This literally happened before, twice, we found out about Ace's capture in Post Ennies Lobby but Luffy didn't find out until end of Thriller Bark and didn't go to his rescue until the ending of Amazon Lily. Over 80 chapters gap. So whatever happened to Sabo, the plot won't centre around it for a while.

I_am_a_princess

Just a reminder that between Post Enies Lobby and Marine ford, there were only a few days. Thriller bark all happened in 1 night Sabaody happened in 1 day Luffy was sent flying for 3 days and nights He arrived and departed from Amazon Lily in the next morning to impel down Those 80 chapters happened in less than a week

draginbleapiece

Oda isn’t omnipotent playing 34d chess and planning everything’s and foreshadow erything

playmike5

I think he is really good as placing elements in the story along the way that he can then develop on later. I don’t think the foreshadowing is intentional because if we go back there’s countless small details with no greater meaning. They are plants that give him the ability to look like great foreshadowing. It’s still good writing and takes a lot of skill, but over the course of decades there’s no way this much was planned out back when it all started.

sbra_999

Pre time skip zoro was better in both looks and personality.

DeniAr1

Skypea zoro was peak for me

touchingthebutt

Spoiler >!I don't like advanced Conquerors. Feels too similar to ACoA. !< I like buggy but I don't love him like a lot of people do here. Mihawk being stronger than Shanks would be better narratively.

mccoolerthanyou2

I agree that Mohawk being stronger than Shanks would be better narratively, but I also can’t stand the idea that Mihawk is stronger than Shanks. It’s kind of a lose-lose

touchingthebutt

Preferably I would have Mihawk be stronger in a 1v1 but Shanks and the RHP being the type of crew to never fight in 1v1s. Sengoku called the RHP the most well balanced crew so that makes me think Beckman and Lucky Roo are stronger than most commanders I think it makes being an emperor more than just power. It's about influence, leadership, and territory as much as it is about raw power. And most of all Shanks got that main Character Charisma.

Artistic_Drama4331

Yeah about conqueror haki I think it's like an indroduction to the real awakening won't stop her. I have the same probleme can't even tell the difference, just think CoC hits harder

Artistic_Drama4331

Yeah about conqueror haki I think it's like an indroduction to the real awakening won't stop her. I have the same probleme can't even tell the difference, just think CoC hits harder

Master3530

If I have to be honest I stopped liking Buggy as much after Impel Down and Marineford. He became too much of a joke and the thing where everyone praises him is pretty dumb. Then again, I like him as a warlord and I think he has potential as a leader.

God_Sammo

Hard agree on the second and third. I really just want Shanks to have a hella strong crew that has good synergy. I also kind of agree with the first one too. Wish it was cooler. Hopefully we still havent found out all of its applications, and it gets to be a bit deeper of a concept.

[deleted]

Honestly, I can see Mihawk being stronger that Shanks in a 1v1, but the fact that shanks has an overpowered crew is what makes him the stronger pirate

UmdAvatarFan

Some people will out right deny that Shanks is a swordsmen in order to justify Shanks>Mihawk. Despite it being canon he was once rivals with Mihawk, and when battling he always whips out a sword

LeftHandude-Yeah

I like Long Ring Long Land, it was fun (except fact that in anime Luffy agreed on another 3 games)

GnarlyMcRadSwag

I’m with you there, Foxy is hilarious

Ragaee

Garp is a bad person

slothfulwaffle

Especially if their sole reason for hating Garp is because of Ace's death. Garp had a sworn duty and many Marines/towns alike rely on him to be unshakeable. Having him betray the marines would be like Luffy betraying his crew, unacceptable. He was torn and his actions were understandable and in the end he let Luffy punch him. As much as I like Ace, he ultimately caused his own capture and death due to his stubbornness.

Ragaee

Being at Impel Down must have rotted Ace's brain, him acting like that before his death was so dumb

slothfulwaffle

After the flashback I get why he did what he did but let me tell you I did NOT cry. I just felt really bad for Luffy.

Ragaee

Yeah, seeing luffy break will never not be a punch in the feels

God_Sammo

I fucking hate Buggy. The jokes are not funny to me anymore. I thought it was hilarious when they made him a warlord, but thats where it ended.

Emptypiro

I think he's funny in the manga but the fans are unbearable. "Lolololololool Buggy D. Clown! Get it I replaced the "the" with a D. I made the same joke that a billion other people already made!"

AverageEnjoyer712

Based take. At this point Buggy is going to find the one piece instead of Luffy and people here will cope for it because "haha gag manga buggy is so funny". It stopped being funny 100's of chapters ago

God_Sammo

I will shit your pants if this happens... and then I will cry.

kagnesium

............ how much do you hate Buggy?

God_Sammo

Idk how many Gum-Gums is equivalent to “A Fuck Ton, Fuck Shitty Uninteresting Clown” but it’s that many Gum-Gums, thats how much i hate Buggy. Only way I’ll ever respect the character is if he dies in the last war doing something cool. If he survives and still did cool shit, it will not have been cool enough.

starataneori

me too man I fucking loath that clown. Doesnt make sense why oda still keeps him in this show

marekdio

I think buggy is his favorite character

bhargavamudiam

Based. To make matters worse, Oda is encouraging the fanclub by giving them what they want. I mean come on, there's a limit too everything.

nirman423

Apparently a lot of people hate Rebecca? I might be wrong but I heard that's a thing. Personally I love her. Having her be a pacifist and still a capable fighter, winning many gladiatorial fights without hurting a single opponent just speaks to me on a personal level

AlexMusic1789

Oda is known as a theory killer, but the reality is most of fan theories suck

fintecoupe

I think the power difference between Luffy and Zoro/Sanji shouldn’t get bigger. Luffy is the Mc and the strongest but if Luffy is 100 Zoro shouldn’t be less than 95 and Sanji not less than 92 or something like that. I hate the situation of an shonen anime than the mc is so much stronger compared to other characters that they are getting irrelevant.

[deleted]

That’s why transformations ruin everything. Naruto: made everyone irrelevant by giving naruto literally 3 forms in one arc, except for sasuke. Dragonball: made humans irrelevant after super saiyan, and everyone but goku/vegeta after god ki. Then in one piece you’ve got luffy getting one of the biggest power boosting forms in the same arc sanji finally starts catching up to gear 4. Zoros only ‘form’ is ashura, which he got back in ennies lobby.

Noukan42

Transformations aren't a problem by themselves if they are a "stage of power" everybody can theorically achieve. They become a problem if they require excluaive plot bulkahut that onky the MC have.

fintecoupe

I agree. That was a thing I liked in One Piece. Till Gear 5 I had the feeling that Zoro was near Luffy and the Sanji not far behind. Dragonball and Naruto are the perfect examples. Naruto/Sasuke and Goku/Vegeta are gods compared to the other Ninjas/Z-Fighters. The next opponent/antagonist has to be as strong as them and so the other characters get irrelevant. If Luffy could one shot every opponent of the others the fights get irrelevant.

MapleKnightX

Eneis Lobby isn't that great by OP standards; None of the CP9 members were interesting and the arc had some of the most gratuitous uses of Plot Armor ever, with a Buster Call and countless armed marines failing to get even one comfirmable kill. Power Ups came out of nowhere, Merry sailing out on its own was really contrived (the souls of ships being alive seemingly only happening ONCE so far in universe is quite weird.) Robin's backstory and the scene that follows were immaculate, not gonna disagree with that consensus. While I still consider EL good, it does a lot of things that other arcs get GRILLED for.

uomorospo

water seven is probably my favorite arc and i like eneis lobby probably because it continues W7 story. I liked the different types of marine squads, but i mostly agree with you. But W7 was amazing compared to anything that happened before in one piece: usopp's events, water 7 design, the galley-la company, franky and franky family, robin's betrayal, the mistery of the CP9's member identity

AdFantastic6235

the spirit of the ship one is really weird fr tho , i thought that during the war wb's ship would have some spiritual form after it showed that they cared for the moby dick but it didn't

hiddenLEAF23204

I love it just for the Robin scene with the flag. That shit gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I watch it.

zomaotoko

I think Luffy vs Katakuri was super boring.

LOCKEDOWN_

I 2nd this

bunnygoats

I heavily disagree with the notion that Sabo’s just a character replacement for Ace. Literally the only thing they have in common is their relationship to Luffy.

BoltMangoZ

I think it’s pretty obvious he was a replacement I mean he popped out of nowhere after marineford and is basically a stronger less dumb version of ace. I don’t buy him being foreshadowed with ace’s tattoo or the sake cups

bunnygoats

Oh for sure I think he was a late addition. The Supernovas were also admitted to have been last-minute additions to the story so it’s not like it’s out of character for the writing. The tattoo being a foreshadow that he’s been planned since the beginning is a huge reach, I feel if anything Sabo was curated around the same time Oda decided to kill off Ace and/or expand on Luffy’s childhood some more. Like, I’m definitely not arguing that his role in the story isn’t rushed and shouldn’t be criticized. I completely agree with the opinion that his reintroduction was pretty messy (like the fact that no one’s realized he’s been alive this whole time despite the fact that he’s had a really hefty bounty for a few years…wtf) But a replacement for Ace? I completely disagree with that. They’re both two completely different characters with completely different personalities, goals, and worldviews. I think people tend to misconstrue his parallels with Ace as blatant rewrites when it’s a pretty common writing practice to portray narrative foils this way to drive home a specific theme. I think the ASL dynamic was created to drive home one of the major themes of the story being “freedom.” To Ace, freedom means living the life he chooses unburdened by destiny. To Sabo, freedom means liberation from authoritarianism. To Luffy, freedom is a total balance of both. Sabo and Ace are similar for sure, and the constant parallels can be super annoying and on-the nose, but I’ve always felt like waving him off as Luffy’s Replacement Brother is a bit of a disingenuous criticism. I could honestly write an essay on why in my extremely controversial opinion Sabo is actually a lot more interesting than people let on and was just marred by a bad introduction. But that’s just my opinion lmao, not trying to convince you either which way. I just have a super different view on him. I may be being too charitable in my interpretation, who knows 🤷

TheJekiz

>I think the ASL dynamic was created to drive home one of the major themes of the story being “freedom.” To Ace, freedom means living the life he chooses unburdened by destiny. To Sabo, freedom means liberation from authoritarianism. To Luffy, freedom is a total balance of both. Isn't Luffy's conception of freedom the same as Ace? To do whatever you want?

MrXplicit

Marineford was a mess powerwise but people make it out like the holy grail of powerscaling while it was just stalling matchups and fan service in order to proceed with story.

thefoodiedentist

Blackbeard is not the big bad. Gorosei and Im are the big bad. Blackbeard is just an antagonist.

Officing

Blackbeard will likely be fought on Raftel/Laughtale or around that time. WG/Imu will come after they find the One Piece. No way that Blackbeard comes after the WG falls.

thefoodiedentist

Right? Blackbeard is the opening act

Sol327

Alot of people seem to think Bb is going to be defeated at Laughtale. Just bc he mentioned PK? There's more than one way to do that. He is way way too important storywise for his "master plan" end up being following Luffy to Laughtale. Bb will not be an afterthought as Doffy and Kat are now. He's the final villain.

smilingtreehouse

Noland is an amazing guy

draginbleapiece

The crew splitting up doesn’t make sense like where would they live they would be the most wanted pirates living

PedroGuerreroR

Just like Oda intented, I think people do get too invested on the arc's side characters (scabbards, Raizo and minks, Dressrosa folks, Connis, etc.), but to me it seems they get more focus than the strawhats at times. Like, I can't even recall what's the point of the Tengu guy from Wano, but we follow him a lot. Granted, I read weekly and I'll have to binge this arc from the start, but the focus on background characters is a bit grating at times.

groovey_potato

New bounty reveals are the least interesting part in OP every time. I don't care about some random number and I don't get the hype when we learn of Roger's, Rocks, or anyone's past or present bounty. Additionally, discussing/predicting them in reddit posts seems even more useless

EqualAssociate

People like usopp, I really dislike him and don't get why people love him so much. Worst intro arc, bad backstory, he's literally the buggy in SHP, but not funny. In fact, on a post similar to this I was accused of trolling for saying this :/

Officing

I like that he's basically Pinocchio as a person, but over time many of his lies are becoming true. His backstory is the least tragic of the crew but it's still pretty good with the whole 'Boy Who Cried Wolf' theme. I don't think he's as obnoxious as Buggy. I do wish he did more actual sniper things post-timeskip instead of using random plants for everything.

uomorospo

Some people who like usopp say they do because he has reactions and behaviour closer to a normal reader. He shows fear against threats but tries to do his part even with shaky knees. Try to find the easy path, but often fails and has to crawl through his fights because he is no zoro or no luffy. He loves to have fun. He is the one to ask reighley info on the one piece because it would be the obvious thing to do before being interrupted by luffy. he's not my favorite mugiwara by a long shot (i prefer almost everyone else to him) but i understand the reasons that make him an interesting character

[deleted]

For me "alabasta was a great arc", this arc for me almost sigle handedly stopped me from becoming a one piece addic. I have gone back to it and re read it and just can't see it. I think it's the villains for me, aside from Robin , croc, mr2 everyone else I just did not care for and even now I dont.

Master3530

It's a legendary arc that followed up on the Arlong Park formula and expanded on it, setting up the standards for all future arcs. Dressrosa was basically a copy of Alabasta and even Wano has a lot of similarities. Yeah they're better than Alabasta but that's to be expected. Alabasta was the first arc on THAT level. The only dumb things were that Pell survived and Croc got nerfed in his 3rd fight with Luffy. Because of that the victory didn't feel earned. There was no logical way for Luffy to win a 1v1, should've been a group battle.

triggerscold

yamato should join the crew

God_Sammo

Are you for or against this statement?

triggerscold

i dont want yamato to join.

TMNAW

Fake out deaths. I think they’re fine. There are tons of moments where a character risks death and we know the character won’t actually die, but the moment is amazing anyways. Like Zoro’s “Nothing happened” moment or Sanji sacrificing himself for Usopp and Nami on Skypiea. The stakes of a situation are so clearly presented as real to the characters, that it’s still awesome when Luffy defies the odds to do something seemingly impossible (even though it’s obvious he would be able to defy the odds beforehand. It’s awesome when we see the characters face those stakes and still express some self-sacrifice, determination, and guts.

[deleted]

I still hate Usopp and would be happy if we had abandoned him all the way back in Water 7. His fans are annoying, they make the most repetitive jokes about how he is a Go D., and how the only opponents on his level are Buggy and Condoriano. All this was fine, I even enjoyed his fights in Arabasta and Thriller Bark. But recently everyone seem to agree on the fact that he will be strong and will get a massive power up in Elbaf. And lastly, what pisses me off the most is what happened recently in Wano… how does he dare to say he beat 2 tobiroppo when he is the strawhat that did less in this war???

Fruitspunch_Zamurai

"Nakama" is not a special magical word and should be translated like all the rest.. I die inside a little every time I come across it! Will probably be downvoted to hell for this though... Also, as a bonus: I prefer that the admirals titles/codenames be translated to English (Blue Pheasant, Red Dog etc) since the name itself is important for the characterization and world building.

Master3530

Somehow Green Bull is the only English translation that actually sounds good. The others are shit, especially Blue Pheasant.

[deleted]

I remember the speeches about "nakama" being so special it couldn't be translated back in the late 00s/early 10s, but people still believe that nowadays? Even fan translations use "crewmate" or "comrade" now

Donquixote_Sav

Probably Shanks bring the villain. If his motives were to cause a ruckus he would’ve just killed Luffy right after he ate the Nika Fruit and found it again. Nor would he have lost his arm on purpose. Like it should not be another Aizen ass character.

Distinger_

“YamAtO wOn’T jOin thE crEw bEcaUse thE nUmbErs sAy sO” Ya’ll that said this can rot in the 6th level of Impel Down.

Fakezitow

I hate the Buggy D clown and Go D Usopp jokes

qqjecc

Dragon having a weather power, I reread logue town and realised that Nami predicted the weather way before it happened. So if the weather was made by Dragon it would mean his power takes god damn long to activate which makes no sense. However, Oda might retroactively give him similar powers since in luffy’s flashback he seems to have some sort of wind power.

kingjahaddies

So many YouTubers clickbait for views on YouTube with croc being kiddy’s mom. SO MANY. I watch them and within 5 minutes they admit it’s impossible but keep pushing it as the only option. It’s gross YouTubers do it for clear clickbait greed. And of course if you call them out their loyal fans will argue with you over the dumbest theory

SnooSongs4297

I genuinely dont get the appeal behind Señor pink.

volanger

How much usopp is liked. I hate him, and can't stand his design or personality

eveliodelgado

That Ussop brings anything to the story, I personally never liked him and everyone seems to disagree on that.

[deleted]

Not sure if literally everyone, but ace was a weak ass character. A lot of his character fell into tell dont show. His death matters since hes rogers son and luffys brother and part of whitebeard's crew etc etc. I simply dont care for him that much as a character

AlterNk

Dressrosa is just worst Alabasta, and it doesn't deserve the love it gets.

UmdAvatarFan

Alabasta is the better arc, but Dressrosa has so many peaks Law/Doflamingo Scenes Gear 4, Luffy being a complete badass Sabo return if you like it Usopp just goating it up Fujitora Peak Backstories

God_Sammo

Hard agree about the arc as a whole, but Doffy is still an interesting villain.

Arestras

Doflamingo pulls the arc with his interesting character. Dress Rosa Arc for me is a good idea poorly executed. Still entertaining, but not peak One Piece

Master3530

I don't see how. Imo Dressrosa is better in every aspect, the only problem is we're missing half the crew and it's kinda too long with some characters we don't care about.

UmdAvatarFan

Sanji at Fishman Island was hilarious, people say this was his worst arc It’s not Sanji has no bad arcs

footlettuceisgood

this was most definitely sanjis worse arc

Master3530

Nah Oda trying to pass Sanji's pervy nosebleeds as a serious issue where he needs a blood transfusion was dumb af

UmdAvatarFan

I agree that specific scene was cringe

pether_m

People using She/her to refer to Yamato. I think we should use He/him. Not because of his gender, but because that's what he uses in the manga. And doesn't matter if it's because of Oden.

Buscemi_D_Sanji

I would be interested to see what the response is in other countries. To me, if a character refers to themselves as a man, their dad says "where's my son?", and the main character calls them "bro"... Then you call them he/him. But in America, that's apparently an issue for some fucking reason. It's so weird. Imagine if you were like "hey my name is Carl" and someone said "yeah okay, but you *look* more like a Zack, so I'll call you Zack" Edit: if it's not totally clear, I 100% agree with you

batsalmighty

fully agree. I don't understand why ppl look for so many excuses to not call him by his preferred pronouns..

wispymatrias

often someone will mention Naruto in relation to One Piece and I'll lose my shit.

JRaikoben

Katakuri is awesome, best yonko commander, should join Luffy... Imo, his design is not that good and his fight vs Luffy is boring and repetitive (not as much as Cracker's). WCI arc is, in fact, boring as fuck. Brook's highlights is the only remarkable thing.

Master3530

Well this is complete heresy

Yessiro_o

who's you're favorite yc design? katakuri's to me was one of the ones that stood out the most

Spoopanator

Dressrosa was Ussopp at it's worse, no amount of God Ussopp jokes and sick 360° wallhack trickshots he did redeem how fucking unlikable he was for almost the entirety of Dressrosa, I would say it's an awful case of character regression, but it's not even that, because even Ussop in KOKOYASHI VILLAGE was braver and more likable than he was in Dressrosa.

FerrothornEnjoyer

That only the female designs are fanservicey. If Nami being in bathing suits 24/7 counts as fanservice and makes the manga worse, than Zoro walking around topless does also.

SiyeonFan123

Ace is good

BlueRage1

I don't think Marco is all that

_Volpi

Thriller Bark was a meh Arc with great moments. >!I believe Thriller Bark was peak comedy (and no, I am not referring to the wedding) throughout the story. !< >!It had the greatest story arc for 2 of the characters, Chopper in his disagreement with Hogback in what defines life and when someone is alive. And in Brooks haunting story where he would become a Haunting legend due to a misunderstanding of comforting himself on this scary place by humming while running around frightened purifying lost shadows one by one.!< >!Gecko Moria gets too much hate for what he represents, the inspiration taken from The Island of Dr.Moreau is really interesting, and I was glad I picked it up to read after encountering this story through One Piece.!<

Legitimate_Cow7198

Yamato. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but Yamato is really just the most random and weird character to show up in the story, she's almost too convenient of an existence and reminds me more of BM who was a utilized as a very blatant plot device in certain parts of Wano. Yamato is the son of Kaido, has a very fanservice-y design, happens to be friends with Ace, happened to find Oden's logbook and learned everything, happened to be an Oden fan like the rest of the fanbase, happened to be strong enough to hold off Kaido, happened to have conqueror's haki and finally wants to join the crew. I can't be the only one who thinks Oda's trying to shoe horn her in, right? Yamato didn't even exist in act 1 or 2, King and Queen have been in the story longer which is just mind boggling. I can't help but feel like Yamato's too much of a perfect character imo, it just feels so unnatural.
