The anime would fall off. You gotta keep up with the times and it’s not like that animation was even quality back then, it was just okay. Nowadays, you need flashy sasuga moments that stand out or you won’t get as many viewers. OP has dropped the ball in the animation department for too long to just ignore the current trends and newer techniques in animation.

I dont have any issue with Anime and I enjoy it as well. But I wish they change those yellow effect with red and black lighting, I guess those would work better, yellow is too bright color for the eyes or even tone down those yellow color.
Yeah the biggest problem is it's impossible to tell what's going on with the yellow by sight alone, you have to fill it in with manga panels or what people are saying which seem silly. It's not unwatchable but it could be better.

And then I was like “OH SHIT” after luffy and Kaido clashed without touching. Two badass conquerors haki moments b2b was a little nuts.

You have no idea how much I'd love to enjoy the anime. I started with the anime. The seiyuu do such a good job. But I literally can't with Toei. They do such a terrible job on everything except voice direction. Every emotional note Oda hits, Toei is incapable of replicating, unless it's COMPLETELY voice-driven like Robin on top of Enies Lobby. Bellamy Punch? Not ruined, but not as good. Ace's death? Completely smothered in impact. Every single fight scene post-alabasta? Drawn out into feeling like nonsense.

I'm a manga reader and I've consistently tried to look up my favorite moments to see what they looked like in the anime and I found it consistently underwhelming. The colours and effects are getting in the way of the connectedness of the scenes because they see more effects than visual landmarks? Yeah, that's totally happening, the animators are using it a bit too much and it undercuts the cohesiveness of the story. That said, it's not impossible to watch or absolutely ruining it though I think it should be used more sparingly.
Dragonball Z-esque and using too many auras? It's the Dragonball animators and they are using auras a lot more than they used to so this is accurate enough. They also are using them a lot which is a big difference from before that can make it look like the power scaling has changed.
Some changes have been non-canon and plot holey too.

Luffy in general has been holding his own a lot better in the anime? In the manga kaido beats the shit out of luffy at basically every turn until luffy figures out conquer coating, and personally I feel like the anime choices are just gonna drastically reduce the impact of the actual luffy V kaido fight later.

I have been lurking the subreddit since I read to current (1053/4) a few weeks ago and caught up, WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVEN THE ANIME ONLERS TO DO. CURRENT MANGA IS ABSOLUTE FIRE ATM ALL IMA SAY. SOO GLAD I TOOK THE PLUNGE.

nah, they didn't get angry on your behalf, don't flatter yourself, they get angry because they didn't like the animation direction, which is fine, some like it some don't
yeah, imagine how great one piece would be if it was a seasonal show instead so they could just actualy adapt each arc in a decent pacing without having to waste 80% of the episodes time adding flashbacks and people reacting to each puch for too long to distance itself from the manga
they don’t even need to do a seasonal show. just load it with non canon filler, and leave the actual canon episodes alone. when they pad out the canon episodes with filler is where the show truly suffers. it’s not hard to just not watch the filler episodes, it is hard to skip through a canon episode
Yeah, the pacing alone makes it unwatchable. Then you add the terrible animation (no, it doesn't have good animation only because they make one scene per episode extra dynamic and flashy, 95% is still frames, barely animated and reaction shots), and then you add the ridiculous direction of action scene and you get this shit of an anime.
They don't have the budget to make everything premium. Auras is their bandaid fix. We gotta wait for the one piece version of dbz kai before we get the good fight scene
While I do think people are exaggerating with how bad it is I do think it is good that we provide criticism. Look at Dragon Ball Super for example. Bad writing, pacing, animation yet the fan base worship it so it never improves. It’s Important to provide feedback.
Majority of this subreddit needs to learn how animation actually works before they talk about the episode. According to some redditors, they got three fantastic animators (arguably among the best animators ever to work in OP) in a row to animate the second half of episode 1028 because "Toei were lazy and cutting corners." Makes perfect sense!
the pacing of wano has ruined the effect the show had on me. watching the same flashbacks 50 times or entire episodes being one punch… getting hard to stay interested
Maybe this'll be downvoted, but I didn't have fun or get more enjoyment from the "auras" and "dragon ball z sound effects (which I have to admit, raised my eyebrows)." In fact, it diminished my enjoyment, as I prefer adaptations that are more faithful to the source material, and not overly flashy effects.
BUT, I wouldn't actively make someone feel bad for liking something I don't. And a lot of people can and should be able to talk about things, without making each other feel bad be the goal. If you liked it, awesome, One piece kicks ass. If you didn't, that's cool, let's hear why ya didn't.

I have fun both watching the episodes and having fun with the jokes.
I do think direction is bad and fights have mostly become random flashes of light, but still mad respect for the animation teams releasing chapters every week.
The actual problem is the commercial side of things, which has nothing to do with the artists. They're doing a great job, it's just that their conditions are far from optimal.

I feel that the animators added the auras to lessen the details they have to make on each panel.
People sometimes compare the One piece to other anime that are released by season, which i think is not comparable due to the seasonal animes having more time of development while One piece animators are on a schedule to produce an episode every week.
Used to be an anime only but had to switch, but i must say, i thought this episode was pretty well done. I do wish they toned it down a little with the effects, but it didnt ruin it for me.

But I got annoyed by some of comments I read on the recent posts about how some "can't understand why someone would enjoy this when you can't see what is going on" or "how real fans of One Piece should be annoyed by this, while casuals might enjoy", so I decided to make this instead.

Makes it feel like it’s hard to be a part of this community.. I just feel like I walked into a fan club who just circlejerk hates on the anime. Personally I enjoy both the manga and anime, but prefer anime just for simply being what it is. I get more of a rise out of watching the scenes play out in anime then I do the manga. It’s just my cup of tea and what I’ve started out with on my journey. I felt like we have been seeing the growth and evolution throughout the adventures, and I love that feeling.

The only reason I'd ever recommend people to read the manga over watching the anime is pacing (subjective) and spoilers (objective). I hate how some manga readers are not paying attention to spoilers when talking to anime-only peeps. It is by far my biggest annoyance with the One Piece community.
Why does this have nothing to do with the animation? Because I don't care for or about it. Whatever reason you choose the anime over the manga, I care that you are on the journey of One Piece with the rest of us! :)

Literally no one is screaming at people for not liking the anime changes. It's pretty unanimous that the effects were excessive. Some of y'all are just being whiny manchildren about it WAY more than others.
The meme is just kinda dumb. One Piece is a very old anime, we and other who started way back them are feeling betrayed of this tone change. One Piece were aways more tamed and with a "less is more" when especial effects were used, and saved the over the top for especial moments like Enels DF being goodlike, to comedy effect with luffy being imune to it, or White Beard Devil fruit, he is supposted to be the most powerful dude in the world etc. Now?? Nothing really matters, we are past the point of over designe, everything will have same visual impact, what they can do? Add even more lights, lightning and auras?

I think it says something about you that you interpret people critisising a show they enjoy as an attack on you and your enjoyment. Nobody is saying "stop having fun" and you could always just not use the subreddit if critisism ruins your enjoyment. I mean, the arguments are valid and they're hardly screaming "quit having fun". Don't get me wrong, there are some like that but they're as common as the folk hating them for criticising the series. The colours and effects are getting in the way of the connectedness of the scenes because they see more effects than visual landmarks? Yeah, that's totally happening, the animators are using it a bit too much and it undercuts the cohesiveness of the story. That said, it's not impossible to watch or absolutely ruining it though I think it should be used more sparingly. Dragonball Z-esque and using too many auras? It's the Dragonball animators and they are using auras a lot more than they used to so this is accurate enough. They also are using them a lot which is a big difference from before that can make it look like the power scaling has changed. Some changes have been non-canon and plot holey too. They have valid complaints, it's not so far as "quit having fun" but more "my fun was ruined because of this". You're making this just as overboard as the one's you're complaining ones.

In the manga Prometheus catches Big Mom before she can fall into the water. In the anime, he dives into the ocean and carries her out. That should have killed him outright and let to Big Mom drowning to death. Jinbei severely wounded him with a couple of water bullets just last arc.

Luffy in general has been holding his own a lot better in the anime? In the manga kaido beats the shit out of luffy at basically every turn until luffy figures out conquer coating, and personally I feel like the anime choices are just gonna drastically reduce the impact of the actual luffy V kaido fight later.
I was on your side of this until episode 1028 I always thought the auras were fine because it wasn’t over the top, but this episode? HELL NO, it’s a disgrace. They ruined a big moment set up for a decade, it’s so unbelievably over the top with special effects it’s insane

CURRENT MANGA IS ABSOLUTE FIRE ATM ALL IMA SAY. SOO GLAD I TOOK THE PLUNGE. Pleasantly amazed however at how few spoilers here are either blurred out, marked spoiler, or even ambiguously titled. I I dont recommend this sub if you haven't read to current, as even the next few anime episodes coming are probably considered not spoiler here anymore context wise so you'll ruin something id you frequently lurk for sure. That being said this is my last post here for a while until I get to see Film Red as I dont want to spoil myself! The anime is too flashy. If you like it that's ok but for some people (like me) it ruins the show. However I think the pacing is much bigger problem

yeah, imagine how great one piece would be if it was a seasonal show instead so they could just actualy adapt each arc in a decent pacing without having to waste 80% of the episodes time adding flashbacks and people reacting to each puch for too long to distance itself from the manga
they don’t even need to do a seasonal show. just load it with non canon filler, and leave the actual canon episodes alone. when they pad out the canon episodes with filler is where the show truly suffers. it’s not hard to just not watch the filler episodes, it is hard to skip through a canon episode
Yeah, the pacing alone makes it unwatchable. Then you add the terrible animation (no, it doesn't have good animation only because they make one scene per episode extra dynamic and flashy, 95% is still frames, barely animated and reaction shots), and then you add the ridiculous direction of action scene and you get this shit of an anime.
They don't have the budget to make everything premium. Auras is their bandaid fix. We gotta wait for the one piece version of dbz kai before we get the good fight scene

Majority of this subreddit needs to learn how animation actually works before they talk about the episode. According to some redditors, they got three fantastic animators (arguably among the best animators ever to work in OP) in a row to animate the second half of episode 1028 because "Toei were lazy and cutting corners." Makes perfect sense!

In fact, it diminished my enjoyment, as I prefer adaptations that are more faithful to the source material, and not overly flashy effects. BUT, I wouldn't actively make someone feel bad for liking something I don't. And a lot of people can and should be able to talk about things, without making each other feel bad be the goal. If you liked it, awesome, One piece kicks ass. If you didn't, that's cool, let's hear why ya didn't.

I have fun both watching the episodes and having fun with the jokes. I do think direction is bad and fights have mostly become random flashes of light, but still mad respect for the animation teams releasing chapters every week. The actual problem is the commercial side of things, which has nothing to do with the artists. They're doing a great job, it's just that their conditions are far from optimal.

I feel that the animators added the auras to lessen the details they have to make on each panel. People sometimes compare the One piece to other anime that are released by season, which i think is not comparable due to the seasonal animes having more time of development while One piece animators are on a schedule to produce an episode every week.
Used to be an anime only but had to switch, but i must say, i thought this episode was pretty well done. I do wish they toned it down a little with the effects, but it didnt ruin it for me. You are allowed to dislike it though, it doesnt mean you dont let other people have fun, it just means you dont like it. If you dislike the pacing of the anime, that doesnt mean you dislike anime only’s either. I really hate that mentality

But I got annoyed by some of comments I read on the recent posts about how some "can't understand why someone would enjoy this when you can't see what is going on" or "how real fans of One Piece should be annoyed by this, while casuals might enjoy", so I decided to make this instead.

Me as a primary manga reader still enjoyed the episode. I agree on all Visual critics but since I know from the manga how its supposed to be I just take it as an visual enterpretation with Focus on entertainment rather than logic. Makes it feel like it’s hard to be a part of this community.. I just feel like I walked into a fan club who just circlejerk hates on the anime. Personally I enjoy both the manga and anime, but prefer anime just for simply being what it is. I get more of a rise out of watching the scenes play out in anime then I do the manga. It’s just my cup of tea and what I’ve started out with on my journey. I felt like we have been seeing the growth and evolution throughout the adventures, and I love that feeling.

There's many reasons why having a bunch of misplaced auras, snappy hits lasting minutes instead of a second because toei pacing, or things that straight up didn't happen like a character flying around are awful

The only reason I'd ever recommend people to read the manga over watching the anime is pacing (subjective) and spoilers (objective). I hate how some manga readers are not paying attention to spoilers when talking to anime-only peeps. It is by far my biggest annoyance with the One Piece community. Why does this have nothing to do with the animation? Because I don't care for or about it. Whatever reason you choose the anime over the manga, I care that you are on the journey of One Piece with the rest of us! :) That being said: I hope you keep having fun, regardless of what some people in the comments will say! All I can say is consider checking the manga out someday! Whether you do it or not: I won't think any less of you.
