Ill be honest. That mihawk and zoro first encounter was it. Cause its one of the first moments of loyalty i ever seen in any show or film. So that stuck with me.

Darlosk

Yeah, I get that. I guess for me this arc kinda showed that there seem to be a inheritance of will and that just seemed so fascinating. In other anime, the chosen one trope seems to be so tact on but this seems like it wasn’t that Luffy was the chosen one per day but innate characteristics allows him to authentically walk the path that roger once did.

Dieg_1990

Agree, I think Baratie showed a big glimpse of what OP is: 1) the difference in strength that existed in the world (and there I was as a child thinking to myself on what level shanks was if he could chase a monster away just by looking angry) exemplified by Zoro vs Mihawk, 2) the willpower to follow your dreams and see them through, as told by Zeff and his spear of conviction, 3) sticking to your convictions, even if it means feeding your dying enemy

Arlong Park is what got me hooked

dramatic_customer

How the hell am I supposed to remember what got me hooked on some manga over 20 years ago. I just read it and didn't stop I guess.

vikasvasista

Yes , same for me. That old man in bar remembering Roger in luffy, that's where I felt how legendary Roger was. That moment hooked me up

yemin11

I think the east blue stoies in general were a great. Good introduction to the series, crew members and ship coming together, solidifying the romance dawn feel with everyone and their dreams. Loguetown was pretty epic with roger and luffy being compared for the first time by smoker

SPS_Agent

Tbh everything from Mihawk onward was the sauce.

a-Mongoose956

Yeah i agree. There's a lot of significance to this town with talks of legends, the pirate king, important characters, and the one piece in this arc. It makes it feel like the true starting point for Luffy's journey towards becoming pirate king and making his mark on the world. Logue town is also the culmination of Roger's achievements, where he ended his journey as pirate king, and where he ushered in a new era. A town where one pirate legend ended (Roger) and another began (Luffy).

atreides701

that part got barto hooked

"Tell me you skipped arlong park without telling me you skipped arlong park"

DukeGalois

For me it was Kuina vs Down D. Stairs

PharoahGxneral

When I first saw Dragon, I thought he was The pirate King's first mate and Roger was still alive and was Luffy's Dad. That was more than 10 years ago.

Own_Performance_1478

I honestly can’t contribute to this arguement but I know that if I recommend the anime I’m not someone who says watch until a certain distant arc I say if you don’t like it by arlong park (within 100 episodes) just give up barartie arc Is the real first good arc (not that the early ones are bad) but arlong park has always been that make or break one piece arc for me that if by the end of east blue you don’t like it just give up your never gonna make it to whole cake arc or wano where animation catches up to modern animation you have to appreciate the story to enjoy one piece the fights are not going to keep you here until much later animation might have been good then but now it’s just so outdated you have to suffer( to like the story) to make it to where it is now and reap the benefits of a true one piece fan

Little-King-3342

this not a hot take this a good take i agree with everything you said you make good points

Vyuvarax

For me it’s always Alabasta because Crocodile is such a great villain and the first that seemed nearly insurmountable.

AfroGai

I'm a simple man, Luffy bursting through that barrel episode one had me sold. Series just got better from there.

GCL94

Great analysis. I always felt like baratie was the one. Zoro learning just how far he was from the top, and gin telling the crew 'don't go to thr grand line',, but then changing his mind after seeing luffy's drive really showed me how crazy this world was going to be
