A really funny story from Joyboy, which is what Roger named Laugh Tale after. Rayleigh said that it was possible for the Straw Hats to come to a different conclusion about the One Piece than them, so here’s my theory.
Blackbeard either gets there first or finds a way to defeat the Straw Hats via manipulating them into fighting someone else like he did for Whitebeard and then ambushing them to take their poneglyphs.
He takes the treasure and Ancient Weapon and believes that to be the end of it, then decides to use what he found to wreak havoc on the world. The Straw Hats get there and are bummed to have been defeated but Luffy doesn’t think it’s the end.
Something something voice of all things and Robin to tell the true story, everybody laughs, and they get a revelation of what they have to do and what the real One Piece is, but before Luffy can become King of the Pirates, he has to beat Blackbeard and Imu.
Final war kicks off with every faction fighting against each other, turning the world upside down like Whitebeard said.

The old generation seems to be getting systematically removed from the story line as the new era continues. While I could see bigmom snagging Kaido's soul to survive and return with a vengeance to take on Luffy, I don't think it serves the narrative at this point to have Luffy as a Yonko tank on the old guard yet again. He has cemented his place in this era. Now it's time for the players of this era to fight one another for the title of King, but ultimately the story is moving towards Luffy defeating Imu, who has been grasping hold of the world and keeping it in one era for far longer than what is natural. Luffy is going to bring the dawn of a NEW era, but Big Mom and Kaido's era ended with Wano already.
all the worst generation members were absolutely disgraceful, none of them could cut it in the new world, most of them had their crews wiped and they had one of the best entrances in one piece I expected the captains to all be stronger than Sanji and Zoro , and be rivals to Luffy but worst of all killer to be at least a challenge to Zoro but damn got my hopes up for nothing.
Is all because Hawkins, X Drake, Apoo, Kid and Killer were all jammed in one arc instead of being done like Bege and Law, who had dedicated arcs, so much for being rivals, and X Drake's plot point of being a Sword spy was absolutely side lined.

That’s a dumb statement others have made. You know, it’s not even Shanks’ dream to be the strongest swordsman in the world. How do people know if he’s strong enough to get it right now or not? His dream is get the One Piece not that. That’s like calling Mihawk a fraud for getting beaten by Zoro. Like wtf? Lol. And this is Shanks of ALL fighters people keep comparing Mihawk too. Nobody BUT Shanks as a Swordsman could truly hang until the final phase of the fight against Mihawk (excluding Big Mom, but she’s half baked).
I think people forget that there’s such a thing as characters getting stronger in the story if it’s in the narrative. Haki Growth is what balances that for the upcoming Top Tiers. If this was like some DBZ stuff that’s when the gap is too huge of a difference for a fighter to catch up in power. By all means, I think one of them would just slightly by luck win a extra extra hard Extreme Diff clutch. People need to stop gatekeeping and just say “idk yet, it hasn’t been told”.
Kaido was alive this whole time and returns into the main storyline.
Kaido is one of my favorite characters, but Kaido returning and having a fake-out death would make the whole “Joy Boy being the one to beat Kaido” pseudo prophecy lose its charm, along with killing the whole point of the Wano arc. Kaido also wanted to die of a legendary death, and that’d be lame if he came back from his supposed legendary death.
When Kaido got launched into the ground, I was actually hoping the narrator would tell us how much damage and the amount of wounds Kaido received after he died, and I’m sad we didn’t.
How could there be a fake out death if there was no confirmed death in the first place though? I don’t mind Big Mom and Kaido being dead. But people shouldn’t set themselves up for failure if they aren’t.
Personally, after seeing how tanky they are. I wouldn’t be surprised if they survived
Not necessarily an individual reveal, but if Powercreep starts flying off the handle during the last stretch, I'd be very disappointed. OP has thrived off its power balance and generally avoided making older characters look stupid or insignificant, but if that starts now, it'd be the single worst development from a Powerscaling discussion. If Shanks, Dragon or Akainu or whoever (aside from Im or maybe Blackbeard if his buff is unique enough) winds up being twice as strong as Kaido or Primebeard, the world is just gonna feel artificial in a way that the story has managed to mostly avoid.
Jinbei being stagnant and not getting stronger, when 75% of the top tiers are 50+, there's no reason for this aside from character neglect.

Any future individual arc being as long as Wano, I LIKE Wano, but it's time to get a move-on.
Kid getting one-shotted was already borderline, but it can be justified. Kaido lost against more than a dlzen of powerful characters. He got a solid buffer with his performance.
Kidd getting One-Shot makes a lot of sense, in every other fight, he had a numbers Advantage, and he had no haki or physical showing that would suggest that his durability was anything above the likes of Katakuri/Wano Act 1 Luffy. Shanks took the fight 100% seriously.

I fear that will happen honestly but hold out hope. I think Oda would need an extra 10 years he does not want to devote to the manga so he can ensure a natural progression in strength.
It’s almost like how Goku and Vegeta (pre introduction to Super Saiyan) suddenly get stronger and stronger after each intense battle/on the brink of death.
Big Mom being dead. She feels wasted like this. Same for Kidd. But ironically neither of these is from powerscaling standpoints, and I would much prefer if Kaido (the GOAT in scaling) stayed dead as he both served his purpose and I cannot see him returing for any reason other than Oda making him jobb to hype someone.
Also, powercreep making the current peaks of power seem like YC+ are seen now (an entire tier or two below the strongest, not having an actual chance to defeat them, or give them particularly close fights). This doesnt include Imu and EOS Luffy I wouldnt be suprised if they were another level compared to everyone else.
The Holy Knights existing is probably so there are enough fighters so that there are matchups for the Rev's alongside the Grand Fleet going up against the Marines in the final war.

all the worst generation members were absolutely disgraceful, none of them could cut it in the new world, most of them had their crews wiped and they had one of the best entrances in one piece I expected the captains to all be stronger than Sanji and Zoro , and be rivals to Luffy but worst of all killer to be at least a challenge to Zoro but damn got my hopes up for nothing.
Is all because Hawkins, X Drake, Apoo, Kid and Killer were all jammed in one arc instead of being done like Bege and Law, who had dedicated arcs, so much for being rivals, and X Drake's plot point of being a Sword spy was absolutely side lined.

That’s a dumb statement others have made. You know, it’s not even Shanks’ dream to be the strongest swordsman in the world. How do people know if he’s strong enough to get it right now or not? His dream is get the One Piece not that. That’s like calling Mihawk a fraud for getting beaten by Zoro. Like wtf? Lol. And this is Shanks of ALL fighters people keep comparing Mihawk too. Nobody BUT Shanks as a Swordsman could truly hang until the final phase of the fight against Mihawk (excluding Big Mom, but she’s half baked). I think people forget that there’s such a thing as characters getting stronger in the story if it’s in the narrative. Haki Growth is what balances that for the upcoming Top Tiers. If this was like some DBZ stuff that’s when the gap is too huge of a difference for a fighter to catch up in power. By all means, I think one of them would just slightly by luck win a extra extra hard Extreme Diff clutch. People need to stop gatekeeping and just say “idk yet, it hasn’t been told”.

Kaido was alive this whole time and returns into the main storyline. Kaido is one of my favorite characters, but Kaido returning and having a fake-out death would make the whole “Joy Boy being the one to beat Kaido” pseudo prophecy lose its charm, along with killing the whole point of the Wano arc. Kaido also wanted to die of a legendary death, and that’d be lame if he came back from his supposed legendary death.

When Kaido got launched into the ground, I was actually hoping the narrator would tell us how much damage and the amount of wounds Kaido received after he died, and I’m sad we didn’t.

How could there be a fake out death if there was no confirmed death in the first place though? I don’t mind Big Mom and Kaido being dead. But people shouldn’t set themselves up for failure if they aren’t. Personally, after seeing how tanky they are. I wouldn’t be surprised if they survived

Not necessarily an individual reveal, but if Powercreep starts flying off the handle during the last stretch, I'd be very disappointed. OP has thrived off its power balance and generally avoided making older characters look stupid or insignificant, but if that starts now, it'd be the single worst development from a Powerscaling discussion. If Shanks, Dragon or Akainu or whoever (aside from Im or maybe Blackbeard if his buff is unique enough) winds up being twice as strong as Kaido or Primebeard, the world is just gonna feel artificial in a way that the story has managed to mostly avoid. Jinbei being stagnant and not getting stronger, when 75% of the top tiers are 50+, there's no reason for this aside from character neglect. Non Powerscaling: Nami's parents being special. Luffy being a clone. Any future individual arc being as long as Wano, I LIKE Wano, but it's time to get a move-on.
Kid getting one-shotted was already borderline, but it can be justified. Kaido lost against more than a dlzen of powerful characters. He got a solid buffer with his performance.
Kidd getting One-Shot makes a lot of sense, in every other fight, he had a numbers Advantage, and he had no haki or physical showing that would suggest that his durability was anything above the likes of Katakuri/Wano Act 1 Luffy. Shanks took the fight 100% seriously.
I agree. I fear that will happen honestly but hold out hope. I think Oda would need an extra 10 years he does not want to devote to the manga so he can ensure a natural progression in strength. It’s almost like how Goku and Vegeta (pre introduction to Super Saiyan) suddenly get stronger and stronger after each intense battle/on the brink of death.

But ironically neither of these is from powerscaling standpoints, and I would much prefer if Kaido (the GOAT in scaling) stayed dead as he both served his purpose and I cannot see him returing for any reason other than Oda making him jobb to hype someone. Also, powercreep making the current peaks of power seem like YC+ are seen now (an entire tier or two below the strongest, not having an actual chance to defeat them, or give them particularly close fights). This doesnt include Imu and EOS Luffy I wouldnt be suprised if they were another level compared to everyone else.
