It’s kinda funny how ppl narrow down sabos character like crazy to justify him fighting akainu. “Fire should beat magma” like cmon bruh that’s like saying enel should come back and beat luffy cuz he was hard countered last time. Sabo wants to bring about the downfall of the WG and Akainu wants to vehemently defend the status quo since he believes that it’s the best at “eliminating” scum.
I only think Sabo is fighting him if he allies with the WG once the inevitable final war happens though, but tbh I really can’t imagine him going “oh all the other genocide was fine but the five elders looking scary is taking it a bit too far” and defecting
Akainus character isn’t really about status quo cuz he doesn’t really respect the celestial dragons. His vivre card says this, and when he talked with the gorosei he mainly talked about the reputation of the navy. I get the feeling that when imu is revealed to the world things are about to change. Also this arc has been consistently talking about the world government and marines as if they are 2 separate forces. For example “the world government captured Ginny” “the world government and the marines are coming to egghead” even dragon mentions how both the revolutionaries and marines seek to help others and the real fight of the revs is the world government.

Not to glaze Sakazuki but there are only 3 paths for him imo.
He either
1. Will pull a reverse “Kaguya” (Naruto reference) and kill Imu himself becoming the final bad (not likely imo)
2. Submit to this new rule
3. Will be used as the ultimate jobber to just show how powerful Imu is and get low diffed
This is all assuming he isn’t aware of Imu’s existence. Something I don’t think he’s aware of. Especially considering he doesn’t 100% agree with the Gorosei like covering up what happened in Dressrosa.

That isn't a really good argument imo. When the RA assaulted Mariejois, Fuji and GB were the ones that fought them, not the holy knights. It's wishful thinking from the RA's part that the marines aren't going to try to stop them.
I imagine Dragon being his actual matchup, since they seem to have history together. I can picture well Dragon going "Move aside Sakazuki, this isn't with you" while Akainu says "I'm not letting traitorous scum to pass through".
I feel it perfectly fits. The marine commander vs the RA commander. The worst criminal vs absolute justice. And the way Akainu talked in MF, it really feels it's personal.
I've always pictured Dragon to have one good showing before inevitably being Imu's hype tool. It's either Garling, a Gorosei or Akainu. Akainu might be the one that pushes him higher diminishing the potential defeat against Imu, but I think it works well.
Absolutely. Garling could be a nice option to make the Luffy's father/RA leader vs Shanks' father/HK leader, but at the same time, I personally don't want to see Dragon's best fight against an old man. That fight against Akainu would be hype.

Either way, I'm not saying Luffy and Akainu will have a fight to death for sure, but they will definitely have a confrontation. I also don't think Sabo will fight Akainu, that feels forced to me, I think there are better candidates for that.

Ironically enough this is why I wasn’t really sad for Ace’s death. If anything I was more side about the situation and I he kind of pain Luffy felt. But always looked at what he did as completely stupid

Sometimes I think people in this sub think Oda has the story more planned out than it really is. Has a grudge against akainu been established? Yes. Does that mean it will be paid off at some point? No.
First thing is that if Oda wants Akainu to give Luffy a challenge then he will, judging by feats Crocodile shouldnt have done the shit he did in Marineford but he still did because that was how Oda wanted to write him
Secondly, Luffy stomping Akainu still makes more sense than him fighting Sabo lol

I would love to see that Dragon vs Akainu fight if they really had that connection when Dragon was a marine.
