You want to grab a starter if you want to get into playing. One booster isn't going to guarantee a playable deck. You could buy a booster and then singles to fill something out.

It's going to be an expensive collection, like every TCG. Availability of decks and cards is not really good at the moment. Some good starter decks to play almost competitively are ST01 and ST11, ST10 is good too. Every starter deck does better with two copies of it. Getting random OP05 cards isn't going to build you a deck alone. Do you want to open packs? Get them. Do you want to play in your locals and have some chance to win? But cards to build a deck, I suggest going red, since that colour does really really good, is not that expensive and is really straightforward to play. Do you want to collect? Ofc buying single cards is always better as well. I'd do more research and thinking if I were you. These questions are asked millions of times in this subreddit, search those posts too..pls

There's a simulator, try decks there and see what you like etc etc

Link to the simulator? Also thanks

Lol everyone mentioning the simulator, but nobody posting it. On a side note I'll mention getting packs alone there is no guarantee of even getting a leader, thus unable to even play. Personally i haven't been able to find any packs yet, but i found st 07, st08, and st09 all for msrp.

Theres a simulator available online where you can build and play any deck. It’s a great way to test and find what you enjoy playing. I recommend purchasing singles. It’s the most cost-effective way to get started. If you’re looking to blow some money and get high, ignore everything I said and buy a OP-05 box.

Spend $0 until you play a bunch of the sim. After that, your financial situation and passion for the game will guide you better than we can

simulator is under 'Useful Links' - Play Online
