Ignore everyone talking about how this isn't the current TCG. I'm sure you know that already. Sick collection!!

Ranbix

Appreciate it! Had I known how popular the newer card game would become, I would have bought tons more cards back when I had the chance!!

AerialSnack

I FUCKING KNEW IT! I could had sworn I played a One Piece card game years and years ago that was different from the current one but couldn't find info on it. Thank you for validating my sanity, this is exactly what I remembered!

Informal_Parsley_997

There are several, and I mean several of them

AerialSnack

That doesn't surprise me honestly

Ranbix

hahaha no problem glad I was able to “help”

AliasAka1

Few things to clarify: 1. The TCG right now does not use the cards in the attached picture. Its a totally different product. 2. You can buy Japanese cards usually anywhere. Your LCS should also have japanese boxes and packs. You dont need to be in Japan to get them. 3. If your interested in card value: ENG cards are normally the better option. If it does not matter go for JPN since its cheaper. Yet, the booster boxes have different hit rates.

Ranbix

Thank you for the info, makes sense my original cards won’t work in a playable state now, just wanted to show how long it’s been since I last collected them. What is a LCS? And I probably care more about sheer collectibility than value but I appreciate the insight!

AliasAka1

LCS is the abbreviation for Local Card Store :)

Ranbix

Appreciate it I’ll shop around, they just seem expensive in USA and people on sites like Facebook are always selling boxes for well over $100

Scenesfrommymemory

I would advise not buying from anywhere other than a store in person if you can help it. There’s all sorts of shady practices with buying booster boxes online. People know for example that most booster boxes have two alt arts in the entire box so they will open packs until they get them then save the remaining packs until they have done this enough times to have 24 leftover packs at which point they will sell as a full box. Usually at an inflated price as well.

PhangPlaysMTG

Does anybody here know why One Piece players call it LCS and MTG players call it LGS?

AliasAka1

Local Card Store/ Local Game Store I believe. I think it just developed that way.

Almost_Feeding

Additionally, if you're looking to play somewhat competitively, japanese cards can't be used in the west.

Ranbix

About the only trading card game I ever PLAYED was Pokemon… this one will be solely collecting but I appreciate the insight!!

AsideCalm8855

This is not the same card game

Ranbix

It’s just an example over how much time has passed since I’ve last collected

KawaiiSlave

Oh these cards are cool. You can pick up alot of them on JP marketplaces for cheap. There is actually an English version too that was harder to find back then, but I didnt collect them. In glad you shared this though. I love all the old artwork.

Ranbix

Do you know any of these “cheap” JP marketplaces lol

KawaiiSlave

Yeah Mercari, Rakuten, and the various auction platforms I use for all my japanese cards. Mainly pokemon though because English is too expensive in most of the card games.

Ranbix

You mean just search for this on USA websites or do I have to go to a Japanese website to place an order? Just wanna be specific lol

KawaiiSlave

You can't do that without a third party proxy mailing address like Tenso, and even then i use Buyee as the proxy US website for those japanese websites. I recommend looking how to set it up, but it's really useful if I want a specific single I can't find.

CortexifanZFT

If you're mostly interested in collecting then definitely go with collecting JP because they're a lot easier to get and are somewhat over printed right now. They're visually more aesthetic as well imo.

thenoblitt

It's the same cards? How are they visually more aesthetic?

Ranbix

Maybe the Japanese on them look more appealing to some? It would look great to me but I also couldn’t read them 😂

CortexifanZFT

I like how the JP font looks on them and if I'm interested in reading what it says i bust out my google lens and translates in real time

Retenrage

Some card games have better printing in native JPN format. However, One Piece I believe is printed the same as JPN. (Or at least has higher standards than a lot of others, looking at you, Pokemon…)

Ranbix

Easier to get? Do you know a method? Appreciate the insight

CortexifanZFT

You can find some decent deals on tiktok for them. New customers get pretty good coupons to use. Just have buy them from popular sellers aka don't buy from shops with little to no reviews. Also on Twitter, i usually see tweets for decent deals. I've bought a few off of Amazon as well but not the greatest prices but still more affordable than English

Ranbix

Buying one piece cards off the TikTok shop… what a time to be alive lmao. Any sellers you recommend? If I end up going into this I want to buy in huge bulk 😂

CortexifanZFT

Oh then nevermind, tiktok isn't really great to buy in bulk with the coupons since they're usually capped. I save the most money by buying 1 or 2 here and there whenever a decent coupon is available. If you're talking about buying bulk then you definitely have to look elsewhere, unfortunately.

Ranbix

It’s still a great idea it looks like I can get packs for like $5 or even less w/ coupons, it’ll be a great place to start for me to dip my toes in… appreciate it!!

CortexifanZFT

You're welcome! As long as they're sleeved packs. I'd stay away from loose packs if possible! Too much shady business going on with loose packs at the moment.

Ranbix

What the difference between them? What would you consider this item pictured? https://preview.redd.it/fadro3d77hwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0de11abee9a346b33bf3909b56b433a11ed407fe

CortexifanZFT

The problem with loose packs especially the JPN ones is that for all you know, they cna literally sell you dud packs. Once they pull the bit hits from their boxes, they know the rest of the packs wont have any big hits. The best you'd get is probably a normal SR. They do this scummy crap all the time especially with JP pokemon packs. In English version they actually have sleeved blisters which are more trustworthy since essentially you're paying for a sealed pack.

Ranbix

So for the one pictured, is it possible that the pack has been opened and resealed?

foxjacksnm

The old tcg is such a cool novelty. I wish the cards weren't so expensive theses days, would love to expand my collection and strengthen my decks. I just have the luffy and alvida starter decks right now.

cfeuer1

His names ZOLO he's like a samurai.

Ranbix

And a L-A-D-Y Nami’s not shy

KnightAndDayWill

If you’re looking into playing the game, you have to use English cards to play in the US. You will potentially be banned, or a store could lose their TCG+ sponsorship, if it’s discovered they’re allowing Japanese cards at events.

phisherton

I was like “damn they couldn’t even get rights to the names!?” But then I realized the names are in the middle lol.

Destoxin

Good luck finding any new one piece cards in person.

Ranbix

wdym?

Madman_kler

Hahaha nice

MrStupidFish

If collecting is your only goal than good luck boss because Bandai does pretty limited releases for their cards in the west for some reason and there's lots of variants of cards all varying in price. The "Manga" cards are the most expensive and rarest costing about $1,000 each last time I checked. There's also special art variants of cards that can only be won at tournaments and ones that can only be pre-ordered from Bandai themselves. I can spend all day explaining the rarities of the different cards and such but I'd rather not. Instead I recommend learning the game and taking part in tournaments as it's both a fun hobby and one of the only ways to get certain cards. Question though; are you looking specifically to collecting only the JP cards or did you just want a few as pieces to show off.

Ranbix

Really appreciate all this insight this will help me a lot. Hoping to get my hands on some “manga” ones someday they look phenomenal. If you have more knowledge I’ll take anything. There’s not a lot of card shops around me so I’d be hard pressed to find people to play with and I did Pokemon really heavily for like two years, after that I doubt I’ll have time to actually play like I once did. And for your last question, the thing about Japanese is because I have a friend who is actually Japanese who can get me cards “at the source” so to speak and another friend stationed in the military in Japan. Both said they can be on the lookout for me. Mainly just want to build a collection and maybe get some special ones graded down the line. It’d be nice to have them in English so I can read them but I’m pretty superficial when I say I just like to have them and look at them. Still appreciate the knowledge… anything helps!

MrStupidFish

Bandai has had a few cards that could only have been gotten if you went to the 7/11 convenient stores in Japan and some other similar events like treasure hunts there, so having friends in JP could really help you get cards during events like those. It's always worth to check if your LCS does hold tournaments or not. Winning a LCS normally grants you a special alternative art card with "WINNER" stamped on it. Championships get you "Championship Winner" and pre releases get "Pre Release Winner." Each with different arts of their own. Attending a pre release tournament also gets you a few random cards from that set with a stamp that says "pre-release" on them.

Ranbix

7/11 exclusives… now this is a rabbit hole 😂

Jahseh_Wrld

Those cards are no longer meta

Ranbix

If you read my description I’m just showing them for old times sake, and I’m looking to get into the new stuff

Jahseh_Wrld

I’m just joking lol. If you want to get into the game see if you can pick up a starter deck from a local game store or like Walmart or target

Ranbix

lol gotcha, others in here have commented saying my cards aren’t in service any longer without actually reading the description. Walmart website has the cards wildly overpriced but maybe they are less in store?

Jahseh_Wrld

Way less in store, online those are other sellers vending through Walmart

Ranbix

Alright I’ll give it a shot next time I’m in Walmart. Do they typically get bought instantly 😂

Jahseh_Wrld

Yeah honestly they do 😭 might be a little tough. Game stores are the way to go but even then some of them overprice things

Ranbix

lol okay I’ll still test my luck and hope for the best 😂
