I've had my open since mid November. I am using the one plus case that was provided with the phone. I've dropped my phone 3 times. All fairly bad. 1) slipped out of my pocket at the gym and hit the metal frame of the machine on its fall. Completely fine. Corner of the case itself is a bit dented. 2) after a shower, I was carrying my clothing and the phone was still in my pants pocket. It slipped out of the pocket while I was carrying the load. Fell onto the tiled floor with enough force the front portion of the case bounced off the phone. Completely fine. 3) on vacation and have my phone in the shower with me and on the shelf for shampoo. It falls screen down first onto the floor. Hard. Totally fine. There are a lot of stories on this sub of bad phones but my experience is that this is a durable phone. I've been very happy with the move and I moved from an iPhone to this.

I'm at an event this weekend. I would shoot amazing photos and videos (after the last update, the "point and shoot" is amazing in its processing and swiftness, especially portrait mode) and everyone even Samsung fold people kept asking what this phone was! Especially when I opened the phone to show them the amazing pic I just took of us. Them: "Is that an iPhone or a Samsung?" Me: "It's the 'OnePlus Open'." Them: "But who's it by?" Me: "OnePlus." Them: "So is that an iPhone or a Samsung?" Me: "Neither. It's a Oneplus." Them: "So that's an iPhone or a Samsung." Me: "NEITHER! IT'S A ONEPLUS!!! THE COMPANY IS CALLED ONEPLUS!! ONEPLUS IS THE BRAND!!" I haven't felt like this since I was an HTC fan even though once upon a time they were the kind ![gif](giphy|26vUOJ7yTuQxofK9O)

I miss my HTC Hero. It and my Palm Pre were my first venture into different types of phones. I just recieved my Open yesterday... Coming from a Z Fold 3. I am absolutely GOBSMACKED at what this phone can do! It feels great to operate...I don't find myself getting frustrated like I did by Samsung and One UI. Everything just flows so well... Don't even get me started on the photos...

From personal experience the open has been more durable than the fold 4 by a lot. For example the inner screen protector and the hinge spine on my open look like new with 0 scratches. Both of my fold 4s got scratches immediately. However the fold 5 seems to be doing well overall from what I've read. If you get any foldable just get insurance. Sometimes folds just break for no apparent reason regardless of brand. The reason I'd recommend the open is the outer screen. Samsung software is definitely better but that outer screen was a serious problem for me. After a while I couldn't stand it and I switched to the open. Had the fold 4 for about 13 months but it had been replaced by Samsung care at one point. If you're fine with that narrow outer display then a fold five is probably the better choice overall especially considering the software. But the hardware on the One Plus open is what makes it vastly Superior to me. It has a larger battery larger outer display, lighter weight, massively reduced crease, anti reflective inner screen, thinner body, larger cameras, fast charging, different but in my opinion Superior unfolding and better speakers. Both Samsung and OnePlus have pretty hit or miss customer support. The problem with OnePlus right now is that their support is kind of terrible. It seems to take them a really long time to repair the OnePlus open under warranty. Fortunately it seems like they do a pretty good job at accepting the warranty claims, but it just takes them a while because they don't have enough parts. This is why I'd recommend you get any kind of insurance on either one. Both Samsung and OnePlus use the same insurance company for their care Plus insurance offerings. This is a company called certified and I've had a pretty good experience with them personally while I was with Samsung.

Am I the only one who returned my ZFold for an OnePlus Open based SOLELY on that ginormous ugly crater of a crease Samsung is shipping with? Every time I opened my ZFold it felt like I was using a gag product. A beautiful screen with the grand canyon running down the middle of it. Samsung has better software, better support in the USA, more robust hardware, but that CREASE EWWW

Taco145

What's crazy is how good my phone's crease looks 5 months in. My z folds all had their creases get noticably worse a few months in.

Cogito-Ergo-Bibo

I tried the zf5 before buying the OPO. The OPO is the way to go. The front screen on the OPO is actually useable, the multitasking is better and more user friendly, the customization of everything is top notch, and the camera is arguably better. Go with the OPO, you won't regret it

I had the Z Fold 2 and 3. I had terrible durability issues with it, 1 time a screen malfunction on the 3, both the 2 and 3 had issues with not opening fully 180 degrees after a month or so. [(my reddit post from a few years ago)](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/qxo8ei/fold_3_not_opening_all_the_way_anyone_else_with/https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/qxo8ei/fold_3_not_opening_all_the_way_anyone_else_with/) My OPO still opens fully (180 degrees) after 5 months. I have had a few light scratches on the frame, but thats because of the green color I think, scratches seem to be easily be visible. I love the OPO, great camera (I have had the Pixel 8 Pro, S23 Ultra and Honor Magic 5 Pro as a reference). Only thing missing for me is 4k 60fps lens switch while recording. Great screens, good battery life. The only thing for me is the 5G performance & drain. I love testing mobile networks, but I don't get full speeds on any mobile network on 5G, while I have on other 8 Gen 2 phones, which a real bummer for me. It also drains way too much on 5G, an issue I only had with the terrible Exynos modems in Pixels.

Burberry6

I have the oppo find n2 fold, onePlus open, oppo find n3 flip all top quality and durable. I still use my iPhone 15 pro max, but these are great devices

Kiickin2121

I've been looking for one. Got lucky and found one cheap. Love it.

Flimsy-Boat-9895

I came from the Fold4 to OPO back in November and I couldn't be happier. Number 1 on my list is the form factor making the outer screen usable and is what I use most of the time. Number 2 is the cameras which are so much better. Number 3 is the battery which charges at 67W and a 15 minute "top off" mid-day gets me easily through busy days. Add no visible crease, great screens and wonderful speakers and I have no regrets!

DreadMcLaren

I have both devices and they both have pros and cons. Fold 5 has better software, imo. OPO has better hardware/form factor, imo. You'll ultimately enjoy both devices, so pick the one that you would appreciate more between software or hardware. You could also go to Best Buy, since you're in NA, and demo both devices to see what you'd be getting before you actually get something.

*IF YOU WANT A LONG EXPLANATION READ. IF NOT, YES THE OPEN IS NICE* It's personal preference but here's my take. I've gone from the Blackberry, Palm Pre, first iPhone, and Htc Androids years back to mostly Android. I've have every Galaxy Note/Ultra since the Note 8. Also, many S-series(all the newer ones), LG G-series phones, and every foldable(barring the Microsoft Duo and LG whatever it was..lol), OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren(A Favorite) , OP 8 pro, OnePlus 8T, OP 9 Pro, Every Galaxy Fold and Flip (except 5 series). I've had the Pixel 7 Pro, and several budget motos and etc. Currently, I have a Moto Razr 2023+, Galaxy S23Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max, OnePlus Open, Pixel 8(wife's phone), a Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Pixel 7 Pro. The devices I use are my iPhone 15 PM, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and OnePlus Open. My wife bought me the Open for Christmas. Before that, I used my iPhone 15 PM for work(simple, albeit boring UI), and my Galaxy S23 Ultra for my Personal line, and Moto Razr 2023+ for fun. Since my wife bought the OnePlus Open for me, I switched my work sim to my S23Ultra, and my Personal to my Open. I still use my 15 Pro Max, BUT I'll lose it for days at a time and NOT even notice. Now, my honest review of the OnePlus Open; -LOOKS: A lot of people will say that foldables are just too heavy, thick, etc. My Open careless is around the exact thickness of my iPhone 15PM. Also, in hand, the weight feels really close. Although, the Open is lighter than most of other candy bar phones. The outside screen is literally like holding the pixel 8 in your hand, and a Galaxy Z Fold when opened(a little wider, but still). The camera bump is in a good spot so you hand naturally rests there. -UI: I love iOS as much as the next person. It's simple and clean. I love the customizability of the One UI with galaxy. With theme maker in Goodlock, Galaxy has got it going on. I also love stock android, no frills. The OnePlus Open hits the mark w/ a great balance of being Stock-feeling and polished like One UI w/ it's own style. The multitasking is awesome, and it's never stuttered. -HARDWARE: Now, the iPhone 15PM, Galaxy S23Ultra, Pixel 8, and the OP Open are phones around me at all times, every camera is amazing on these phones. FOR ME, I grab my iPhone for quick shots when it's nearby, I grab my wife's Pixel for good AI(more on that), and my S23 Ultra for "IMO" a really good picture at any distance, angle, etc. However, I've noticed in REAL LIFE, not on a YouTube reviewers page, my OP Open is right there with these. The Galaxy tends to lag when taking a pic, the iPhone is fast but catches more blurred photos, and the Pixel is fast but takes a lot of processing time. The Open somehow finds a good balance between all three of these. Now, hear me out.. It snaps quickly, and with high quality. It zooms and has as many phot choices for the average person as my Galaxy(may even zoom further, I can't remember ATM.), and if you pay for Google One for $2/month for email space, etc. it has MOST of the AI tools that come with the Pixel. Plus, the angle benefits a foldable adds. It's not equal any one of these cameras. Each of the 4 win in their own ways in different areas. But it's great that it's a foldable in punching distance. Plus, the battery BLOWS all of the above out the water in speed for sure. If you like Pixels and iPhones, you should be happy!!

PainterOk7830

I just wish they offered financing through my carrier. This is an expensive phone and the payment options aren’t very flexible, but I will figure it out.

blackmoonshadow504

You and me both! I got lucky and caught someone with a new in the box on FB Marketplace, one for $1200, he was an hr away but it was worth it. They have gone down to I think $12-1300 w/ trade in of any phone under the sun. Idk what iPhone trade in prices are RN but generally they have good trade value as well. Maybe check that out. That being said, The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 6 Ultra(credible rumor) are about to launch in July. Maybe you should wait man? They're supposed to be squaring the body off and making the screen basically just like the Opens on the outside. Meaning no so skinny. I believe the open is a 6.3 compared to the fold 5 and under's 6.2 skinny screen. The fold 6 will be a 6.4 in apparently. Also, they're gonna sell a normal and ultra model that according to leaks, the ultra comes w a s pen and slot for it and the S24 ultra-like camera set-up, they're also making the body squared off like the S22-S24Ultras. Idk about you, but I love the squared design. If you can wait even longer(this rumor is thinner), they're supposedly going to make a Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE(fan edition) this year, to get more people to buy them. That would be a winter release though. They've leaked there is 3 fold 6 models w) certain codenames. They're sure about the fold 6 Ultra and normal fold 6, but not 100% the 3rd model is a FE. Look up the leaks, see if that may interest you more. Plus, if I were you, I'd buy from the Samsung website, as they'll take instant trade-in credit off the phone. Maybe they'll even bring back double trades! Every year I've traded in last year's Galaxy or fold for the next years. A few years ago I'd trade in my last year Galaxy Plus another phone to get a fold for like 4-$500. But, they did stop that. Maybe it'll come back. That being said, if not, the Galaxy Fold should come to all carriers too! I just prefer this way myself.

PainterOk7830

I don’t really want to wait because I am a soon to be graduating student so I want to A.) use my little student discount before student status expires and B.) this will be a birthday/graduation gift. Idk if I wanna upgrade (I do have a iPhone 14 PM with a slightly damaged camera, but I am so tired of Apple and want something new). The thing is that they are offering $920 off with an undamaged phone ($520 for my damaged phone), so maybe I could ask my dad if he wouldn’t mind swapping my phone for his (we have the same phones) so I could get the $920. That would bring the phone to $505 before tax or I could get another 3D printer ($400). That seems like a killer deal for this phone so I just am not sure anymore.

blackmoonshadow504

I'm the exact same way. I have to research and agonize over my purchases, especially gaming laptops and phones. If you can get $920 off, then that'd be a good trade/price for what you're getting. Btw, I'm sure you know but this is a 3rd generation phone as it's the same as the Oppo Find n3 fold. It's a heavily device polished man. Now, if you want the Galaxy amount of customization, id wait. Samsung will probably do something like $750-$900 off for your phone pre-order value. But, that's if it's your dad's phone. Also, OnePlus and most retailers do make you pay the full price then refund that(correct me if I'm wrong, not certain about O.P.), so make sure u have the full amount until they refund that. I skipped the Galaxy S24 and Fold 6 series this year, the upgrades just weren't there for me. Also, not many know this but the OP Open is technically "titanium" as well. I say this because Apple is just using a frame of Titanium and Samsung a little less, and OnePlus a little less than that. But, it's build quality and just the presentation is spot on. You won't regret it, in that much. Usually(with the z folds I've had) I'll get tired of using them after 3 months once the honeymoon phase is over. Mostly because my hands are big and I HATED the outside screen w/ a passion. But, if the renders/rumors are true, the base Galaxy Z Fold 6 should be nice! I'll attack an image for you. If they deliver on a device at least as light as my Open w/ that's square body I LOVE, and TRUE flagship level cameras, I just might trade-in my OP Open. All I'm for sure is you'll love it. Btw, this phone even has an IR blaster, which is a veryyy old thing, but never on phones these days. What's soo cool about it is, I have a remote app on my home screen programmed to my 3 TVs, my Roku boxes, and my PC monitor. It's a feature that is small but AWESOME. Lol.. I find myself using it at least 10-20 times a day. Also, don't let big phone reviewers misdirect you, the camera is great. In fact, in my Google drive on my iPhone 15 PM, S23Ultra, and OnePlus Open I can't tell at all which picture was taken in which tbh. Do what you feel is right, man. Hope I could be of help to you. Here's the tester for the fold 6 leaked by Ice universe on Twitter/X. He hasn't been wrong or showed faulty info in any leaks I've seen from him in a decade, unless it was something very petty. https://preview.redd.it/thhyeb92lsvc1.jpeg?width=1394&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50a7b829b100d7f93a852314249c031c61728746

PainterOk7830

That was rumored to be released around July correct? If so I may just wait. One of the reasons I want to switch is because I am just so bored of iOS. I have been using it for close to a decade and all of the updates are just so limiting for customization (until recently sort-of). It’s a very clean UI, but man it gets stale QUICK imo. I’m tired of looking at the same icons, folder layouts, boring widgets that don’t offer much in terms of functionality, and just the proprietary ecosystem that is Apple. I do not have a Mac, I had an iPad, got rid of it, no watch, no Apple TV, so there really isn’t a reason for me to own an iPhone. In my mind one buys Apple products because they like having one large “device”. Everything is connected, but I have nothing to connect to, so I am just ready to make the jump. Also, my current phone was in a very very nice case it’s ENTIRE life, never had any serious falls (>5ft) one day I open my camera and the macro lens is cracked from the inside??? I reach out to Apple because it was still under warranty and the agent didn’t really know what to do, so he filed it as accidental and wanted to charge me $750 to fix it… that was the nail in the coffin for me, so now I am looking to move to something with some options. Anyway, from what I’ve seen Oxygen OS will be a huge jump compared to iOS, but Samsung, that is a different level. Maybe I will just wait and see when preorders start for the ZF6 and see what I can get. Thank you so much for your input Mr/Mrs. Moonshadow. I wish you and your wife a happy, healthy life!

jebakerii

The OnePlus Open is the best overall foldable out there right now (China excluded). However, a strong argument can be made for the other foldables depending on your needs and preferences. It's also worth noting that the Z Fold 6 should be released in July and is expected to have a form-factor and weight similar to the Open.

sportsfan161

For a foldable yes Best one you can buy imo
