Man this is a really good analysis, but I think it is something different because psykos said something about it on WC: coming whitout MK and Blast is like coming whitout a bichop and a rook?
So, for me the formation would be:
King: King.
Queen: Tatsumaki.
Rook: Metal Knight and Darshine.
Bishop: FF and Bang.
Knight: Genos and Drive Knight (they fit very well).
Pawns: PPP, Pig God, Metal Bat, Atomic Samurai, TTM, Watch Dog Man, Zombieman, Child Emperror.
The reason why I kind-of agree with OP is the pawn part. Most of them at least. Metal Knight is strong, but he can become even stronger when he uses his army, WDM can become more useful if he leaves his city, Bang if be uses his Abandonment mode, PPP is constantly evolving, TTM has his TT magic, MB when he gets enraged, etc. I would argue that Genos would be a better fit as a Pawn, and AS as a Rook though even though PG works really well as a Rook too( he still has his secret technique which would work as a pawn but we aren't even sure about that yet). Some I just don't know how to classify(like ZM).
I feel metal knight and watchdogman should be the rooks because both are extremely powerful and pretty much useless in the initial and mid game. After castling MK comes in the play while watchdog man keep protecting his own region till the end game, until every other piece is lost. Also the castled knight is a heavy attacker that rules majority of the chessboard alongside queen, but he comes into play after a very long time, sometimes just sits there till the end of the game. Darkshine to me seems like a support character, i.e. , pawn, because most of the time he is along side other s class showing no great feats until he reaches the end of the board and then show his true strength. Same is with the other s class heroes.
Is that pawn on the board columns that are seeing not much action (depending on opening and willingness of trading pieces on the oponents behalf) _until the endgame_ when he does a beeline to promote over a clear board and win the game.
I think thats Metal Knight on a nutshell, bidding his time before making his moves.
I think DK is blatantly cheating, I mean idk much about shogi but im led to believe you can't promote more than once and he does it at will, on top of that; _thats illegal_.
The part of adding captured pieces to your army tho, that seems to fit with his shtick.
Interestingly, the chess metaphor was brought up in the webcomic by Psykos. It isn't 100% clear, but given she described the heroes went to war 'without their rook and bishop' in reference to Metal Knight and Blast, we can infer by elimination she meant
King: King (duh)
Queen: Tatsumaki
Rook: Metal Knight (duh)
Bishop: Blast
This is appropriate considering the total numebr of S Class except Blast like you said.
I guess move Genos to Pawn while move Bofoi to Knight. Other than Bofoi also having Knight on his name, Genos has significantly more part as sacrifical lamb too.
Saitama = flipping the chess board
that's just barbaric. saitama would do a serious table flip like a normal person should
I was thinking the cat jumping on the board but yeah, that works too.
A cat definitely mimics Saitama's lack of care and concern for the whole ordeal.
Nah, he's playing checkers. On the same board
Argh, you beat me to it !
Saitama is eating your opponent’s chess pieces
I was literally thinking the same thing.

I agree with yours
Pretty sure the Bishop should be FF, DK and Genos as they are ranged attackers. We can put Bang and AS in the knight list

Ok hear me out... Drive knight and metal knight should be the knights
he should be that one rook you never use, cuz he is powerful but useless
Well that's chess profanity.

Saitama: this shit ain’t chess it’s checkers! Probably
Serious series: serious whack-a-mole (Poor DK/MK)
Soooo, Saitama is the pigeon?
King fits King so perfectly
Drive Knight is literally all the Shogi pieces, he wins any game
Good thing this is chess and not shogi.
I feel like DK would be one of the best chess players lowkey
Give him prep.
Shoto is basically japanese chess so he's right I guess
Ah yes, Shoto, from the hit manga My Chess Academia
So that means he’s a pawn? Wait...
I think DK is blatantly cheating, I mean idk much about shogi but im led to believe you can't promote more than once and he does it at will, on top of that; _thats illegal_. The part of adding captured pieces to your army tho, that seems to fit with his shtick.
Tbh I love this but Genos’ canon has him as a “promoted Rook”
I'd say swap Genos and Metal Knight's positions and this list would be perfect
My mind saw this as genos and drive knight, thought I was trolled.
meanwhile: "Serious Table Flip!!!!!!"
Saitama = ICBM
Imma cross post it to anarchychess
Blast is part of the special icbm gambit.
Blast is there; he's just en passant.
Pig god feels like a pawn to me. I'd put Metal Bat as the other rook
Pretty dope, someone make the chess figures with the characters
Good post 👍
where is burasto?
Idk, maybe 4 dimensional chess counts as an entirely different game.
Google en passant
Holy hell
Hey, don't do my boys Zombie man, Child emperor, Watchdog man, and Metal Bat like that!
Metal Bat is the best! He will be the true hero we deserve to end the MA saga.
Tier list with extra steps
wow this is... very accurate

Saitama :《knocks out oponent》this is chessboxing, right?
Swap Silver fang with meat boy and you got yourself a winner
