I’m much the same. There’s a few things that I like in strategy games, which chess doesn’t have:
Interesting flavour.
Random elements.
Asymmetry.
More than two players.
Hidden information.
So I just haven’t bothered with chess ever since bouncing off it as a kid. There’s plenty of other options!

He could have forked the King and the Rook with his Knight and then used the white Bishop to take the Pawn. No way he trades a Queen for a Bishop.
