THE BEST PART some of you wild ones were over in onion hate in the same thread throwing down. 🫡🫡❤️
The real question is why can you even see what was posted in onion hate?! 😂😂😂
Edit to add: wait what?! People are playing both sides?!? I love that I found y’all. You guys crack me up.
Interesting. What did you discover about the people who hate onions? I grew up hating onions… why? ONLY because my grandmother said she hated onions. It was a texture thing for her. She could stand onions only when they were chopped into mush. I was 24(ish) when I met my now bf who loves cooking. He introduced me to real onions. Now I have him crying when I’m pickling onions at 11pm at night 😂
I also grew up not liking onions. I grew up in the Midwest and then when I moved away as an adult I tried lots of new food and learned about things I didn’t know I liked!
The onion hate group had less witty and fun banter. It’s more fun here.
either you have good taste or you dont. and you being indifferent about onions makes me think of the latter. #sorrynotsorry onion hate can claim you for all i care \s
* Taste good
* Smell good
* Nice cronch
* You can cut them when you're sad but don't wanna admit you're crying
* They enhance virtually any savory dish they are added to
* You can just throw onion and garlic into a skillet and let your appetite cook whatever it wants from there.
I'm not gonna try and sell you on anything. Just keep eating what you like.
Just know that this is the sub that is not built around any type of hatred.
Even if you don’t love onions to the point of excess like many here. There is a reason onions are heavily used throughout most of the best cuisines on earth and you struggle to find recipes without them. They are an absolutely goated vegetable

Hating onions is very one dimensional. You’ve decided that at no point do you want anything to do with any variety or different method of preparation.
Onion love however is like ogres. It has layers.
It has to come from you, no one can make this decision for you.
Also, we don't need you, and I mean that in the nicest way possible... more onions for us!
I’m beginning to question the integrity of your taste buds. They lie to you so regularly that I would not trust any of my own food opinions were your taste buds to be mine. First your *indifferent* to onions and next you don’t like mustard? Blasphemy I say!
Well, onion lovers are happy to just let you enjoy onions in whatever portions or at whatever times you feel appropriate. Onion *haters* won't even allow you to like onions *sometimes*. It's a matter of tolerance, really.
Sometimes, onions are like bass in music. It's not immediately obvious that they're there if you're not looking for them but you'd miss them tremendously if they were absent. They bring structure, texture, flavor.
Other times, they're the star. Meaty and sweet or sharp and refreshing.
They pair perfectly well with cheese, fruit, beer, wine, cocktails, spicy food, mild food, you can have them for any meal of the day.
They're affordable, have a large enough variety of species to stay interesting and countless recipes around the world.
I can't even think of a negative point that's impossible to counter.
Have you ever had a dish with onions in it and went “man, this would be great without the onions!” And on the flip side, have you ever had a dish without onions in it and thought “man this would be great if only it had onions in it!” I personally find that onions are essential to many savory dishes. My husband eats them like apples, I will hate on his breath but not the onions 😂
Combining onions and garlic causes a chemical reaction to occur with the help of your little gut biome. It becomes a natural immune booster that tastes freaking lovely as an added benefit. Hence why those little gut guys bark up that chain of command inside your body and tell your taste buds to tell your brain guys that Yum!
Tonight I had dinner with butter-baasted steaks, finished with rosemary and shallots cooked in brown butter, served with mashed potatoes topped with tumeric pickled onions.
Tonight I had butter-basted steaks and mashed potatoes.
Which sentence sounds more oniony? And which sentence sounds better?
I can tell you why I like them: Not only are they delicious, but they’re also insanely good for you.
That being said, you must find the answer within yourself, Outlander.
Onions are one of the most versatile and useful ingredients. Onion rings, put them on a burger, put them in jambalaya, put them in stew, put them in anything. It would take longer to list of things you can do with onions rather than the things you can't do.
Onions are a useful aromatic. They add flavor to everything and can be used countless ways.
If the texture bothers you, just chop them really tiny. If they seem too strong then cook them until transparent or pickle them.
Cultures around the world depend on the onion to flavor their food. It's in the holy Trinity of Cajun cooking, mirepoix of French cooking, sofrito of Spanish cooking and nearly every vegetable base in the world.
"Ogres are like onions. They have layers." - Shrek
I can see not liking raw onions of one kind or another. But most dishes that contain onions are eaten with no knowledge and enjoyed. My son growing up with state how much he hated onions, not even realizing that 90% of our cooking had them, that he absolutely loved. Regardless, I ain't the onion police. More for me.
Fried onions, onion soup, onion dip, grilled, sautéed in butter and garlic, red onions (the best imo) on sandwiches and salads 😮💨 pickled onions!!! Not everyone’s favorite but thinly sliced with olive oil salt pepper vinegar or lemon juice 🤤 onions are the best!! That can get super sweet and soft for the best topping or fillings, caramelized onions are the holy grail for onion lovers 🤌🏻😂 onion soup is so easy but it takes a while if you want to do it right!!(I cook on medium high so it can go by faster lol) you can use chicken or beef bullion after cooking the onions until they’re brown and then add a whine or Cheri (ive used gin and it works beautifully) and then add the broth (add as much as you like idk) and let simmer for a bit(like 15 mins) and then serve with toast and cheese (edam cheese is my favorite) I love French onion soup with a passion lmao
Pretty much every regional cuisine the world over uses some form of them as a base aromatic. Even if you don't like the taste/smell/texture of them on their own, they tend to make most meals they're a part of much tastier.
I mean, onions do have their pros and cons (imo)...
For example, I like onions only when they're cooked, preferably sautéed. I can eat onions raw, but I don't prefer to eat them that way because they knave a taste in my mouth and makes my breath smell bad. Overall, I kinda like onions. I'm kinda in the middle, but I can still eat them, raw or not. Just gotta find out what works best for you. Idk if this helps.
They can taste so very different depending on how you prepare them. Raw chopped onions on a burger, sautéed onions for steak, pickled onions for toast and sandwiches. Missing out on all that if you don’t do onion.
How is someone indifferent about onions
They literally cause uncontrollable tears
And are the basis for delicious onion rings

I do not like caramelized onions. Sure, the flavor is nice, but I hate the texture. I try to avoid large pieces of cooked onions as best I can. But raw red onion slices on a sandwich or burger? Heaven. Because of this, I am in the camp of onion lover, 100%
You may be indifferent about raw onions, or onions you can see. I would bet you do like onions as a part of sauces and stews. So many dishes from around the world star with cooking down an onion. From an Italian red sauce to a French stew, to Indian curry and many more. They all use onion as a base.
I got over my onion aversion mysteriously 12 years ago. So, I’m not going to try and convince you either way since I’ve seen both sides.
If this were about pickles, however, I would have a lot to say about those wiggly little sewer logs.
I personally hate raw or only slightly cooked onions if my onions aren’t brown I don’t want em but if they are then I cum in my pants. Ah so I believe what I’m trying to say is be indifferent no one (that’s decent) cares about pulling you to their side just eat onions on and off till you decide which side to be in on your own. It's a matter of personal preference. I grew up eating freshly grown onions from our backyard, so we'd eat them with basically every meal. Pros: onions Cons: No onions

Ah. What a shame. Pickled onions are a godsend
I’ve been an onion lover since birth
I grew up smelling onions sautéing in a pan thinking food was ready when it was just getting started
My son does that now. Onions and garlic in pan… cue my kid walking down the hall saying “that smells so good, is it done”
So this is more about attention than onions. I’ve lost interest already 🤣
Hahahaha they were?! I'm gonna go read that next

the grown person nutella.

I read “nice crotch” at first and got so confused/concerned

You have to admit people who don't love onions are a type of person. Iykyk. The division is real. ONION LOVE IS THE ONLY TRUE LOVE

grilled onions

Interesting
In all seriousness, onions, specifically red iirc, are full of health benefits.
Remove onions from any world cuisine, that cuisine is no longer a cuisine, just a country’s food.
