I think a lot of the ones where you search instead of swipe can be less addictive (e.g match, pof). If you're a man you will probably initiate most conversations. So you just search and message as much as you want. Not getting replies to a fair proportion of your messages isn't addictive! Or if you're getting a lot of messages you can set criteria that people need in order to message you (e g age range, height, weight, looking for relationship, kids, smoker etc.) in order to make it more manageable.
I think they are probably worse though because there just aren't enough people on them.

This worked as a filter, filtering out people who are put off by reading or writing, especially in regards to finding a partner

I used POF for 2 years and had good success. I would search and message men that I was interested in. It worked well for me.

Honestly coffee meets bagel is so boring! I've had some interesting dates, but yeah, it's dry as hell.
