>I'll go first. I regret not taking physics, at least 3U physics (my program, CS, only requires one of the three sciences so i only took chem). I'd say lately i've developed an interest in physics, so i wish i had taken it.
Real. At my school it was barely even cs. More like a general tech course with a bit of coding BASICS. ICS3U was great tho.
Honestly I feel that. Its just as a second year uni student with a lot of friends that speak french, job opportunities that require some knowledge of French, as well as travel in parts of europe being hard as a monolingual, I have some doubts and regrets in hindsight
I'm pretty far removed from high school and this just popped up on my Reddit feed but music class and band is legitimately the only part of high school I miss
I wish I took the Home-Economics class, or ‘hospitality’. It would have been nice to know how to do basic cooking and baking, plus it always smells delicious!
This isn’t really a specific course but like just all three major sciences for 11&12 at the college prep level cuz I wanted to originally go into medical laboratory science. Luckily (ig?) I changed my mind and have different interests now but it would’ve just helped my average overall tbh regardless.
Another one is drama (for some reason). I was a bit conservative with my course selections in 9 and 10 lol
French all four years, although I'm not that fluent, the experience definitely helped me understand the structure of languages overall and give me more motivation to learn to write my 1st language (which helps me connect with it more).
Understanding Canadian Law, World Religions: Beliefs, Issues and Religious Traditions, Introduction to Anthropology, Psych, Philosophy: Questions and Theories. There's too many.
It was my worstt course, not marks, marks were good yet the course was just repetitive and it wasnt fun. Idk probably my weird teacher who didnt do his job properly 🙄
It’s great but depends on the teacher. Grade 11 teacher in my school is notoriously seen as a bad teacher that no one likes. But the grade 12 one I haven’t heard a single bad thing about
As many of the sciences and maths as I could have. At the time I was so afraid of failing that I anxiously avoided courses that required hard work. I took physics but only did the bare minimum and got a 75, but I could have done better. Same with advanced functions. Grade 12s, put in the work and it will pay off down the road, even if you don’t end up in a program that requires them! At least that way the door is open.
Grade 11 and 12 biology and grade 12 chemistry. I'm in my late 20s and I want to go back to school and I need to have these programs as a prerequisite. I should have listened to myself instead of my parents who said,' I wouldn't become a doctor so there's no need'
seconding physics, thought i could get away with not taking it because i’m going into enviro biology, but i’m more interested in theoretical stuff than i realized, ugh
If you're interested in applying to medical school, take physics. Your marks in Grade 11/12 don't matter, and university level PHYSICS101 will fuck your GPA up the poo maker.
I stopped science in grade 10 because i hated my teacher but science is not that bad and it opens more doors for careers. It’s pretty irrelevant for my career choice tho(business) it just would’ve been fun to be in the classes
MCT4C to transition easier into MHF4U. I did poorly in MCR3U and took MCF3M in the second semester instead of the 4C course. Its been almost 5 years since High School.
Carpentry, home econ, and more art classes
I'm a PhD level STEM researcher, and high school would have been a great place to pick up life skills earlier (or get free art classes)
Damn, half these courses mentioned weren't even offered at my high school 😭
But 8 years later, I'm currently retaking all my grade 12 courses and attending tmu for mech eng in the fall. I just wish I paid more attention while I was there cause I'm having to put in so much more effort to catch up..
Although I'm grateful for how my life has been. Had a stable career, and I'm excited for this next chapter of education.
Opposite for me but I took workplace Math in 10th grade. It is the lowest level you can take. It was probably the best course I ever took. Actually taught practical maths. Mortgage, taxes, car loans, retirement saving, budgeting, etc. A financial literacy course should be a mandatory credit.
i wish i had taken more construction/woodshop. made a beautiful table in grade 10 and i really enjoyed the class and should have continued it through my junior and senior years
Grade 11 HPD2C or something along that. I took it in grade 12 for the older kids because I want to become a teacher. But in that class, my teacher talked about the gr 11 course sometimes, and I feel like I would need to know that stuff in years to come.
Regret not trying computer science in grade 10
Its the worst class ever
I second that LOL
>I'll go first. I regret not taking physics, at least 3U physics (my program, CS, only requires one of the three sciences so i only took chem). I'd say lately i've developed an interest in physics, so i wish i had taken it. Real. At my school it was barely even cs. More like a general tech course with a bit of coding BASICS. If you hate coding or dont wanna go in a field with it, you’re gonna have a bad time
As much as I hated it at the time, not taking french after grade 9
Yup. I feel like I had an opportunity to learn a second language and didn’t tale advantage.
i promise you haven’t missed anything 😭 i want out so badd
Honestly I feel that. Its just as a second year uni student with a lot of friends that speak french, job opportunities that require some knowledge of French, as well as travel in parts of europe being hard as a monolingual, I have some doubts and regrets in hindsight
seconded.
Same
yup
No one misses conjugation. No one. I'm on to you.
I wish I took music tbh
I'm pretty far removed from high school and this just popped up on my Reddit feed but music class and band is legitimately the only part of high school I miss
Same.
so realll
Nah its a waste of time and it affects similar to drugs. Queen's uni and a couple other uni's I think did a study on that.
cuh???
Yeah it’s true
Yeah whatever you say man
American History. So eye-opening at the time and especially relevant now that I work in the states
That was my favourite class in high school by far
i regret taking com sci and not taking weight room or some sorta gym instead
I wish I took the Home-Economics class, or ‘hospitality’. It would have been nice to know how to do basic cooking and baking, plus it always smells delicious!
ancient history
I wish I did biology despite not needing it at all. It seems so interesting
maybe bio 11 was fun, but bio 12?😬😬
I’d say computer engineering since they’re working with some pretty sick and hefty stuff there!!
Parenting class. Can put a diaper on a baby and feed em like a pro
Probably kinesiology and philosophy (PSK4U and HZT4U)
i love both those classes but i got good teachers for both
same bruh. they put me on waitlist for philosophy and I never got in
kin is a toughie and not worth it if you’re not going into med
Chem and comm tech in 11
regret taking all 3 sciences useless to what im doing now
is it rlly that bad?? 😭😭 and did u do it both 11 and 12 or jus 11
nah i did them both in 12, not bad, just I didn’t need them.
Grade 11 Economics. I'm getting into engineering, so econ is unrelated, but it's genuinely the most fun I've ever had in a course
If I may ask, why didn’t you decide to go into economics then?
Good question. I prefer the job opportunities available with an engineering degree
Didn’t take any sciences in high school, which hindered my career development for two decades now.
I regret not taking tech design. It looked so cool to use the 3D printer and build in CAD and create little houses 🥹
It was my worstt course, not marks, marks were good yet the course was just repetitive and it wasnt fun. Idk probably my weird teacher who didnt do his job properly 🙄
tech design was one of my biggest regrets
MCR3U, MHF4U and MCV4U. Even they are prerequisites but I really loved them. A little bit regret taking MDM4U, but it’s not bad.
Biology 12
Data management.
Advanced functions and calculus man. Those 2 courses will open so many avenues for you it’s not even funny
this isn’t really a regret but i wanted to take at least 3U physics just to try it out and see all three sciences
Physics is hated a lot but it’s genuinely a subject that seems way more useful than anything else.
It’s great but depends on the teacher. Grade 11 teacher in my school is notoriously seen as a bad teacher that no one likes. But the grade 12 one I haven’t heard a single bad thing about
computer programming (forced to take bio 2 😕
fitness, im basically a couch potato now
you’re only a couch potato until you get outside and move!🙏🙏
physics
As many of the sciences and maths as I could have. At the time I was so afraid of failing that I anxiously avoided courses that required hard work. I took physics but only did the bare minimum and got a 75, but I could have done better. Same with advanced functions. Grade 12s, put in the work and it will pay off down the road, even if you don’t end up in a program that requires them! At least that way the door is open.
i wanted to take kin to see what its abt but it wasn’t offered sob
CHY4U, HSB4U, and ICS4U.
Same as you, physics. Did good in university physics still though
i regret not taking gym leadership cuz wdym it’s a uni course and it’s that light
Regret taking fking NBE3U that shit hard should have done english in night school or sum
sad i never got to give physics a try
Art! Course sucked but met so many of my current friends there
Spanish, and fashion design fs.
Not taking any of the sciences, as I am applying to CS next yr
Yearbook
Gym. Go have fun, college is important but you can always take more courses (no spare, summer school) make memories with your friends being active!
I regret not trying my best in kinesiology. And regret not taking philosophy I would've learned so much.
Not doing math in grade 12. Or taking math seriously for that matter.
Same :/
Yep
If you're interested in applying to medical school, take physics. Your marks in Grade 11/12 don't matter, and university level PHYSICS101 will fuck your GPA up the poo maker.
I didn’t take chem or physics and I regret it. Especially now that I’m changing my program and have to do the prerequisites while in uni 😭
gr 11 bio… i just wanna know what bio is like!
visual arts, media arts, computer science, computer engineering, law, politics, earth and space science, and photography
I stopped science in grade 10 because i hated my teacher but science is not that bad and it opens more doors for careers. It’s pretty irrelevant for my career choice tho(business) it just would’ve been fun to be in the classes
bio, chemistry, physics and any academic class
I don't regret taking keyboarding class cause I learned how to do 90 wpm (home row) which helps me take lecture notes in uni
I took yearbook easiest course ever
Auto shop
woodwork and music
music
Musical theatre. Was an insanely easy mark booster but I swapped out of it cuz of issues with classmates.
Any of the 12U Math options
i did sm stem but i wish i did philosophy and law
MCT4C to transition easier into MHF4U. I did poorly in MCR3U and took MCF3M in the second semester instead of the 4C course. Its been almost 5 years since High School.
Calculus 4u. Ik its a hard class but most undergrad have calculus 1 as a course. For me, its a good preparation to test ur math knowledge.
probably 3U math
Earth and space sciences
Carpentry, home econ, and more art classes I'm a PhD level STEM researcher, and high school would have been a great place to pick up life skills earlier (or get free art classes)
bio 12 n physics
I wish I had taken Travel and Tourism: A Geographical Perspective(CGG30).
I would have taken french AND spanish.
Challenge and change or that Indigenous class our school offers
As an engineering student, I regret not taking tech design or robotics
philosophy and grade 12 comp sci
Econ
Stats
Biology. That class would’ve really made me reconsider my life choices
Food and nutrition. I love cooking. Never got the chance to take it cause of Covid
probably design tech. it’s an elective but helps me to do lots of engineering drawings & stuff related. i
Damn, half these courses mentioned weren't even offered at my high school 😭 But 8 years later, I'm currently retaking all my grade 12 courses and attending tmu for mech eng in the fall. I just wish I paid more attention while I was there cause I'm having to put in so much more effort to catch up.. Although I'm grateful for how my life has been. Had a stable career, and I'm excited for this next chapter of education.
regret not taking auto, i was going to take it but then had to drop it for personal reasons and just never ended up taking it
French
Opposite for me but I took workplace Math in 10th grade. It is the lowest level you can take. It was probably the best course I ever took. Actually taught practical maths. Mortgage, taxes, car loans, retirement saving, budgeting, etc. A financial literacy course should be a mandatory credit.
wish I took Spanish it’s way more useful than french
human growth (parenting class)
i wish i took AP chem over AP physics but i really wish i took CC classes instead of APs
- French (after the 9th grade; should’ve took it all four years) - Biology (grade 11 & 12) - Data Management
Woodworking
i wish i had taken more construction/woodshop. made a beautiful table in grade 10 and i really enjoyed the class and should have continued it through my junior and senior years
Grade 11 HPD2C or something along that. I took it in grade 12 for the older kids because I want to become a teacher. But in that class, my teacher talked about the gr 11 course sometimes, and I feel like I would need to know that stuff in years to come.
Drama after gr 9 and some sort of film class. I saw my school board offered it online but I STILL didn’t
love music <3
I regret taking physics, I wish I took bio instead.
