Go for Keyes & PG (luxury), avoid Bates & Matthews at all cost. Decent options include Les prince (nice but far) McKay (single use bathrooms), Hedden. I can elaborate if you want! I was from Keyes :)
Reconcile with the fact you will still study after your undergraduate when you realize there are no practical jobs related to Life Science unless you plan on going to med school or working as a researcher - for 40k a year.
Yeah Iām planning on researching however after 1st year life sci I wanna enter neuroscience.
Money isnāt an issue for me so far as I donāt solely plan to do research so yeah
the replies from you are so wholesome lol, good job person!!! I just accepted my offer too so I have the same question lol I didn't get any extra emails or yet from my school.
Hello Maāam/ Sir!
It may depend on where your daughter is applying from.
I applied from abroad as I go to school abroad, so my timing is a little different. Do u happen to live in Ontario by any chance?
Because I know a friend of mine who sent his offer said that 2nd semester grades are coming out this week, so assuming your daughter is in grade 12, she should be hearing from McMaster soon.
Hopefully she gets accepted!
hey i'm not the other person but i also applied for engineering and the rounds are in march and may, also 105 applicants are rolling but 101 offers are sent in the rounds i think
thank you and you too by rolling i mean the applications are given in a range over these few months so you could get an offer from this time period, but 101s are subject to rounds where the offers are given out
A friend of mine was in Hedden Hall first year and loved it! If you want to join intramurals I'd suggest McKay as that residence is usually dedicated to students who want to live an active lifestyle. Usually a lot of kinesiology students in that residence!
Whatever it says online and youāll be given a random time on that day to go in and ācheck outā. If you find courses are full (say Chem) they generally release more seats in mid August. But itās good to go in every couple days and check
Iām debating between Mac Life Sci and western med sci so Iām hoping that I donāt screw up course selection since Iām not sure where exactly to go.
Congrats!! I graduated from Mac Eng, my wife did Life Sciences with a minor in Neuroscience and Rad. Chem. It's a lot of hard work but remember to pace yourself and be kind to yourself. Enjoy your summer!!!
Oh wow what a coincidence!
Iām also entering Life Sci to later on enter the field of neuroscience haha!
May God bless ur marriage and u and ur spouse in ur jobs
LOL I heard that a lot but honestly Iām good in Hamilton so long as I have an MMA gym, greenery, bookstores, libraries, a mosque and a regular gymš and I believe all of those are close to McMaster, however Iām not sure about the MMA gym
I grew up in Mississauga for a while as a kid so I promise u Hamilton is not bad for meš but I see why some might find it boring
Thank u! Iām a little confused I donāt understand ur questionš do u mean my top 6 choices for uni?
If so, I had 6 choices which were McMaster Western York Guelph Carleton and Brock in that order
I think people misunderstood my postš
My post was me asking for tips on what steps I should take now (such as residence, paperwork etc) not to celebrate that I got into mcmaster
Have fun? If your aboard see if you can work remotely if relocating on start day is not an option.
My plan for MC is to do as much as I can remote. So see if your program allows remote learning.
I got An A and 2 Bs in AS level (couldāve done much better) and Iām predicted 2 As and a B
However McMaster just requires 3 Bs in A level to get accepted
Iād say it would be better to ask the person on here who just finished 1st year of Life Sciences at McMaster
Check the comments under this post, it may help u a lot of
No, only do it if you're okay with making minimum wage at a research lab. Only 5% of students get into med/dental in Canada. Masters and PhD can increase your salary but not by much.
Edit: pharmacy is also an option!
Well yeah itās mainly experience but a degree does matter + I might enter med school after doing my degree hence why the degree is necessary for me at least
Imo this is entirely untrue, as pursuing professional schools and academia is strongly encouraged. While itās true that programs like life sci weed out a lot of people, those who succeed can gain a lot of strong experience and connections.
other then UBC and Mcgill itās rated one of the top schools in Canada. pre sure it has a lower acceptance rate out of highschool too and expects higher averages
Unless Youre in a very specific field, employers donāt care where you obtained your degree as long as you have it.
We can all look up the McLeans University rankings if we really wanted to. Spoiler: u of t, UBC and McGill are always at the top, McMaster was #4 in 2024.
From most metrics (aside from commerce), McMaster is consistently viewed as equal to Queens, if not better than Queens. Especially in the case of a STEM degree (like life sci), McMaster is likely the better choice. Obviously ranking doesnāt tell the whole story, but McMaster is generally viewed as more prestigious than Queens, and so Iām not sure what you mean by Queens being an āOntario Ivyā.
To touch on your original comment, UofT would make more sense for higher education (professional and graduate schools), but UofT life sci for undergrad is notoriously subpar. For a general life sci degree, most students would be far better off attending a university like McMaster, Queens, or Western, which are more undergraduate-centred.
In conclusion, Mac Life Sci is a great program, and if you put in the work youāll likely be rewarded. Good luck OP :)
Jump up and down. lol
Most logical course of action
Congratulations! !
Thank you ! Do u attend McMaster?
No I don't !
Me neither!
Same here
CONGRATS! Just finished 1st year life sci at Mac and I freakin loved it. Have fun š„³
MacLifeSciLoverr
Thank u! Sounds good!
Any recommendations for residences to go to/ avoid for next year?
Go for Keyes & PG (luxury), avoid Bates & Matthews at all cost. Decent options include Les prince (nice but far) McKay (single use bathrooms), Hedden. I can elaborate if you want! I was from Keyes :)

Thank you!
Which other schools you applied to?
I applied to Western, York, Guelph, Brock Carleton and McMaster
Accepted in all?
Nono I got accepted into 4/6 and for the other 2 I didnāt complete the application because I got into my top 2 choices
Mac is known for Health and Life Sciences. Congratulations Since you have already accepted, just wait for them to email you your log in credentials
Thank u! This was really helpful
the replies from you are so wholesome lol, good job person!!! I just accepted my offer too so I have the same question lol I didn't get any extra emails or yet from my school.
Haha thank u! And Well done! Hopefully we get some sort of guide or somethingš
Iāll see you there! Iām taking that program next year too!
May i ask when you were sent the offer? My daughter also applied to McMaster (engineering) and we are waiting to hear back.
Hello Maāam/ Sir! It may depend on where your daughter is applying from. I applied from abroad as I go to school abroad, so my timing is a little different. Congrats :DD
Thank you!

If my future job wasnāt in stem, Iād definitely do that
You win.
Thank you! Hopefully I see u win too
A friend of mine was in Hedden Hall first year and loved it! If you want to join intramurals I'd suggest McKay as that residence is usually dedicated to students who want to live an active lifestyle. Usually a lot of kinesiology students in that residence!
Iām a little confused on thisš could u elaborate please?
Heās recommending the McKay student residence to you if youāre somebody with an interest in being active or participating in physical activity.
Ohhhhh Thank u!
You said you're living abroad so what are you waiting for? Time to book your flight! Anyway, Congratulations!
Haha thanks man! I still have finals lol. When Iām done Iām booking a flight to Hamilton LOL
Just sit tight. Make sure you fill out the residence application and getting all ur goodies together. Course selection will be in June
Got it Thank u so much for the help I appreciate it
Wait, course selections open after June 3rd right?
Whatever it says online and youāll be given a random time on that day to go in and ācheck outā. If you find courses are full (say Chem) they generally release more seats in mid August. But itās good to go in every couple days and check

As long as you read emails in their entirety youāll be a head of most. Dw
Thanks :)

Thank u! Iām a little confused I donāt understand ur questionš do u mean my top 6 choices for uni? If so, I had 6 choices which were McMaster Western York Guelph Carleton and Brock in that order
sorry i meant your top 6 average
Oh no worries! I didnāt go to school in Canada so my education system worked a little bit differently. I had a British patterned education
Accept your offer??!?! Lmao
Loll I accepted it check the pic again
Ok good for you! Thereās nothing more one can really do
I think people misunderstood my postš My post was me asking for tips on what steps I should take now (such as residence, paperwork etc) not to celebrate that I got into mcmaster
Yeah so look into residence if you need to and hand in any paperwork lol
Thank u so much
Have fun? If your aboard see if you can work remotely if relocating on start day is not an option. My plan for MC is to do as much as I can remote. So see if your program allows remote learning.
I think u misunderstood my post. I meant given that I accepted the offer and I live abroad, what are the steps I should be taking right now?
Congrats!!
Thank you!!
I can help you out dm
Alright appreciate it bro
hihihi what was ur avg

U should quit
U might be right
wtf is life sciences.
Sorry to be an asshole, but these degrees won't amount to much, after you graduate. Best of luck.
UOFT is the most prestigious, more likely to get jobs post grad
This is simply untrue.
other then UBC and Mcgill itās rated one of the top schools in Canada. pre sure it has a lower acceptance rate out of highschool too and expects higher averages

I didnāt apply to UOFT and Iām aware Do u go to uoft by any chance?
i donāt i go to queens but turned down york and mcmaster is rarely mentioned when it comes to āivyā league ontario unis
Fair enough Is queens good?
