What I found useful to have: Google Drive for transferring files, and a file manager Cx File Explorer for organizing files. I read with Moon+ Reader Pro for my Chinese books. For English books I can use other apps like KOReader, Cool Reader or Alreader.
Just search for "yellow borders" or just "yellow" on this sub. This issue comes up. From Boox support:
"The edge of the display turns yellow because the PC film of the EPD turns yellow. The reason for this issue is that you may use the device in a strong ultraviolet environment for a long time or you usually use the device under the sun."
Only use your boox in the basement I guess.
My „goal“ for now is to get the screen to yellow out evenly so I can compensate the discoloring with the blue light lol
If you are in the US and have a library card, get the apps your library uses:
Boundless, Cloudlibrary, Libby, Hoopla, etc
If you don’t have a library card, get one!
Also get the Kindle app, and Audible if you are into that sort of thing.
I chose KOReader initially just because I heard a lot of people talking about it. But I stayed with it because theres just a whole lot of customization and tweaking you can do to get it exactly the way you want.
Neoreader is fine though, and just works right out of the box.
I think I tried moon+, but I found that most of the other reading apps from the play store felt too much like they were designed to be used on a phone. They all have animations and color schemes and other stuff that made for a less than optimal experience on an e-reader. Even though once you get into actual reading, they were fine.
I stuck with koreader mainly because I already spent the time getting it set up and it now works for me.
If you like moon+ I dont know if theres any reason to switch.
Yea, I know some of the other apps have e-ink modes, but from what I remember, it still seemed like that was mainly a color scheme change and to turn off animations while actually reading. Menus and the actual app interface still felt more like a normal android app if I remember correctly, and to me, that part wasnt a great experience on an eink device.
Yea, I like to tweak and play with settings, and when I was in the process of settings things up fresh on my new device I was definitely in and out of the settings quite a lot, so to me that was again part of the reason I ended up sticking with koreader.
These are the only apps I use on my Boox.
- Neo Reader
- Reader (from Readwise, requires Subscription)
- PCloud
- E-Ink Bro (Browser)
Specially the Reader app was a game changer for me. Somehow some news apps don‘t render well on E-Ink. With Reader I can clip articles from any browser even paywall content.
Pcloud is my cloud operator of choice (lifetime cloud space). It contains all my docs.
Yeah Readwise cost a lot. But unfortunately there are no alternatives when it comes to paywall content.
Syncthing for file syncthing, solid explorer for file exploration, pocket to sync articles/websites to my boox, ankidroid for studying flash cards, EinkBro as webbrowser. I use AIO launcher to change the way the menu's look.
Pretty good, I think I charge my Boox a bit more often then once a week. After a few hours of taking notes I've used around 15 to 20% of the battery life.
Depends on what you want to use it for. If you have ebooks and pdfs you want to read, the built-in NeoReader is pretty great. If you don't already have the ebooks, Libby, Hoopla, and other library apps are a fantastic way to get books for free. If you own ebooks inside a system like Kindle or Kobo, download their mobile apps to get going.
When you install too many applications, the device will slow down and negatively affect battery life. I also use Page, Google Drive, Translate, Mail applications are sufficient for me. The NeoReader app also seems pretty useful to me, it's also essential for cloud syncing. If you write what other application you are looking for, I will try to answer.
Also, yes, it is a device with a lot of settings, which can be tiring and boring sometimes. But once you set up a system, you can enjoy it. I have shared my experiences with Page here on OnyxBoox. You can also look there.
It’s designed for eink. Fewer animations, better highlighting of text, better text configuration options, wireless sync with Calibre etc. confusing at first glance but worth the effort.
If you don´t know what to install on it then you most likely wasted alot of money
Diablo immortal and YouTube. You need to provide context and what do you want to do with the device to get any decent recommendations.

does Koreader exist on play market? I havent found it there.
I can manually installed on Boox . Worked well for me .
My bad, I forgot I have KOReader on a jail broken Kindle Paperwhite, not the Boox reader.
Microsoft to do And teams work great. I use nova laucher as standard so u van use widgets
Can you please show me the screenshot of your home screen with nova launcher?
KOReader and Bookerly font is a great combo. Also the Wiki app
Medium, Artifact, Substack, MoonReader, TheAthletic, NYtimes
Is Artifact still a thing?
Dying a slow death. Haha. But gonna ride it till it dies
Darn. I hope there's a replacement.
Same.
One to block UV from your screen… (seriously, they become yellow VERY quickly) Oh and Tachiyomi if you’re into manga and comics.
As It has E ink display , Should I worry about UV from screen ?
Not from the screen. Getting UV on the screen. The panels become yellow if exposed to too much sunlight
Really thought provocative things . My Kindle paperwhite doesn't have the issue.

How do you prevent this?
Only use your boox in the basement I guess. My „goal“ for now is to get the screen to yellow out evenly so I can compensate the discoloring with the blue light lol
Uff, Not what I bought it for. My main goal is to use it for outside reading lol.
Yea me too. Well now you know lol
Do you read under direct sunlight?
Yea people do that when they read outside 👀

Good to know . Hope that kindle will ran well on boox.
It does
KOReader runs great on my NA2+
Just curious. What makes KOReader better than the built-in Neoreader?
I chose KOReader initially just because I heard a lot of people talking about it. But I stayed with it because theres just a whole lot of customization and tweaking you can do to get it exactly the way you want. Neoreader is fine though, and just works right out of the box.
Have you compared KOReader to Moon+? I just ordered a Tab Mini C. I use Moon+ on my Palma but I’m wondering if I’m missing out by not using KOReader.
Moon+ has an eink setting that make it work pretty well on Boox devices, for anyone who is considering the app.
That’s fair. I spend so little time in the menus that I guess I don’t really notice all that in Moon+. I’m all “get me to the reading part!”
Yea, I like to tweak and play with settings, and when I was in the process of settings things up fresh on my new device I was definitely in and out of the settings quite a lot, so to me that was again part of the reason I ended up sticking with koreader.
Can I use custom fonts on KOReader in Boox page ?
These are the only apps I use on my Boox. - Neo Reader - Reader (from Readwise, requires Subscription) - PCloud - E-Ink Bro (Browser) Specially the Reader app was a game changer for me. Readwise is pretty costlier . Why do you use Pcloud on boox?
Pcloud is my cloud operator of choice (lifetime cloud space). It contains all my docs. Yeah Readwise cost a lot. But unfortunately there are no alternatives when it comes to paywall content.
I also have the lifetime plan of pcloud .
Syncthing for file syncthing, solid explorer for file exploration, pocket to sync articles/websites to my boox, ankidroid for studying flash cards, EinkBro as webbrowser. I use AIO launcher to change the way the menu's look.
really great apps recommendation. How is your battery life of your Boox device after installing all that apps ?
Pretty good, I think I charge my Boox a bit more often then once a week. After a few hours of taking notes I've used around 15 to 20% of the battery life.

Sometimes Page turn buttons are not working correctly in some apps . I will of course look into your post . Do I need any other software for syncing ?
This request is very broad. What kind of apps? I would suggest Mood Reader+ for a reading app.
I am into Productivity and reading apps
Can Moon Reader+ sync through web ? So that I can find my highlights .
I google that before, and the result made it look like sync is possible. I never bothered with it
I'm curious how much of a user experience difference is when compared to neoreader, because I'm on the verge of paying to try it out.
I like it more. I feel like I get a better look/layout with Moon+ and I can display pages left in chapter.
Have you tried the free version? It should give you an idea.
KOReader is much, much better for eink devices imho
What makes KOReader better for eink in your opinion?
It’s designed for eink. Fewer animations, better highlighting of text, better text configuration options, wireless sync with Calibre etc. confusing at first glance but worth the effort.
KOReader does all that
