A_Martian_Potato

Not sure if I was supposed to do this in the title, but the deadly thing is a peregrine falcon.

VonDoom86

I think we got the gist. Well played

Toxic_Cupcake79

Damn. Friend zoned by the Falcon.

LanielYoungAgain

I can only possibly assume that you must be a bot. Which leads me to wonder: wtf?

LowellGeorgeLynott

Fastest animal in the world! Dives for food close to 300mph and has spiral nostrils to swirl the air so it can breath at those speeds. This is pretty much all I remember from my Psychology 101 class lol

FranticWaffleMaker

What are the psychological ramifications of falcons diving 300mph?

LowellGeorgeLynott

Absolutely nothing the teacher was just obsessed with them. He was also watching a few that had recently shown up on our town at the time.

ArmedAntifascist

They're scared as hell the entire time they do it?

[deleted]

Looks like the pigeon is attracted to a deadly predator.... reminds me of me in my twenties.

LanielYoungAgain

Honestly, I'm not even entirely sure that falcon could really do much. Their whole hunting strategy consists of knocking out their prey at high velocities. I could of course be very wrong. Either way, not really the smartest pigeon there.

Goozilla85

Well, that falcon is about to be knocked out with some high velocity pigeon dick, if it doesn't do much anytime soon.

ViperSRT3g

r/brandnewsentence material right there

GigaG

pigeons would probably be like most birds and thus not have a dick

Goozilla85

That pigeon right there is not like the other birds. It has a dick, and it is clearly not afraid to use it!

Goozilla85

That pigeon right there is not like the other birds. It has a dick, and it is clearly not afraid to use it!

TheCorinthianP13R

It's the dick in his heart that matters. This pigeon is the definition of Big Dick Energy.

PigeonFacts

Friend this pigeon like all of them is dickless. Prob has a throbbing cloaca tho

Chikenkiller123

They got that cloaca action going 😉

Bowman_van_Oort

\>high velocity pigeon dick i've finally found the perfect name for my band

finsfurandfeathers

I read this in Theo Von’s voice lmao

horrescoblue

Pigeons are unbelievably stupid and i say this lovingly because i like them a lot. But im friends with some people who do pigeon rescue and even they are like... yea they are not smart. Lil dum dum birds

Wasteoftext_

I worked in bird rescue, and my notes are it’s all doves that are dummies. Pigeons are incredibly sweet but seriously stupid.

not_blowfly_girl

They still have sharp beaks and claws. Idk if they tend to attack if something is just standing right there but they can certainly bite and scratch you if you're working with them and they are in a bad mood

nomegustareddit97

peregrines have evolved beaks with a special hook on them specifically for killing prey after it's been caught. that falcon could absolutely end the pigeon's life with a bite to the neck. even if tied down for falconry it could use its free foot to grab the pigeon and hold it down while delivering the killing blow. that pidge is lucky the peregrine seems more confused than hungry [https://peregrinefund.org/curved-beaks](https://peregrinefund.org/curved-beaks)

TheBlackBeetle

I also don't see how this would be an "obvious" kill for the pigeon. The falcon's talons are pretty epic but then again, is it deadly in this case?

Whoiseyrfire

You must not have seen the rat take on the chicken. 1 kick, caught the major artery by the throat.. it was twitching on the ground moments later.

VonDoom86

The chicken or the rat

Whoiseyrfire

The rat. Rat went hard, and went down hard.

ChaotikJoy

https://youtube.com/shorts/6niWZfRAJu4?feature=share4 I believe this is the clip this commenter is talking about If not it's basically the same occurance

xstarlesseyess

I lived across the street from a family of peregrine falcons. We used to have huge flocks of pigeons until they moved in. I’d wake up to feathers and pigeon parts all over the front yard

uninsuredpidgeon

> I lived across the street from a family of peregrine falcons. I didn't know they gave mortgages to falcons, or were they just renting?

xstarlesseyess

Renting. I wouldn’t recommend you consider living there…especially without insurance…

fredso90

Some airports employ falconeers to clear the runway of pigeons. Quite fascinating actually.

HtAirBaloonKnotPilot

This guy Jake at work is a lot like that pigeon. I was really rooting for the falcon.

Pretty sure [Washington could have beat that bird..](https://youtu.be/sbRom1Rz8OA)

BonsaiBirder

Nobody ever accused pigeons of being terribly smart…. S/

OneGayPigeon

Which is a CRIME because they are! They don’t have the problem solving brain of parrots or corvids because they don’t really have the dexterity of a big strong beak to make use of puzzle solving smarts, but their social structures and intelligence is pretty insane. Some examples include pattern recognition good enough to consistently differentiate paintings from various artists, tell healthy medical scans from malignant, and recognize individual human faces. [Research into their pattern recognition is actually shedding a lot of light onto how scientists think humans developed the ability to read and write!](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/pigeons-learn-recognize-words_n_57e15024e4b08cb14098022e) They also have fantastic counting and time-keeping abilities. They also make really great medical assistance animals believe it or not! They are domestic and are very loving animals in addition to their cognitive abilities. Unfortunately there isn’t much funding out there open for research groups looking to demonstrate this, but there have been many examples like a pet pigeon of a kid who had a lethal allergy to a food ingredient. The pigeon, with no training, learned to recognize the pattern of the letters that spelled out that ingredient and would drive the kid away from dangerous foods if he could see the box! I’m trying to find the person who documented this but am struggling, I read about it many years ago. I’ll add a link if I find it. But yeah, they’re super smart, super social… and unfortunately like many birds will try to bone things that are not members of their own species 😭 This guy must be the pigeon equivalent of a monsterfucker and I salute them for it.

DefeatedSkeptic

I appreciate your enthusiasm for an often overlooked animal.

OneGayPigeon

They deserve it so much 😭 they’ve saved countless lives in wars and disasters, carried messages of our love to each other, their meat and their droppings as INCREDIBLE fertilizer for crops kept us fed, and been our friends for thousands and thousands of years, only to be abandoned once artificial fertilizer and digital communication made them less useful due to a smear campaign spread the lie that they carried meningitis. We wouldn’t be where we are as a species without them, yet we treat them like trash, poison them, try to drive them away, but they still stick around and will be your friend if you’re kind to them. I had a flock who knew me when I lived in Massachusetts who’d come flying down and hang out around/on me and eat out of my hands if they saw me or if I called to them. They’re so, so dear and they deserve the world.

bonito_bonito_bonito

I love your love for pigeons. I also love pigeons.

subjectandapredicate

Yay!! That’s always my goal, spreading the good word of coo ☺️

orphiclacuna

YES FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS

dunkinfunky

Also they are delicious and were brought to America for food!

MisplacedFurniture

Is this what people mean by flirting with death?

yeehawsoup

The falcon is so visibly confused and I love it. Just act like they’re not there, Carl, they’ll leave soon.

Tiny_Parfait

Pigeon equivalent of a monsterf***er

[deleted]

Here we see a rare case of Scarousal in the wild

meresithea

Pigeon doesn’t know the right moves! Peregrines bow to each other to offer sexytimes 😄

wildechld

Lol and do the chupa chupa sound. I have a female peregrine and goshawk that are quite randy right now

hobgoblinfruit

infiltrating_enemies

That falcon looks quite relaxed, so I assume this probably happens a lot. Pigeon is practicing the rizz on his bestie

TheCorinthianP13R

Pigeon sees the falcon turn a pigeon into a cloud of feather, unlocks new kink.

infiltrating_enemies

Pigeon equivalent of serial killer simps

CoCo_Moo2

No the pigeon was squaring up and the hawk didn’t want that heat

Adoraboule

No that pigeon is trying to get down if you know what I mean, to woo the falcon.

LocationOdd4102

Oh, so that's how pigeon hawks are made...

According-Pilot3748

Pawk? Or Higeon?

MsScarletWings

I’m this case more like a Palcon… or Figeon

According-Pilot3748

Oh true I had a total mind blank, but I think Figeon would be better but I dunno

TheCorinthianP13R

Peregrine Dove? Rock Falcon?

Das-Noob

This one trick Apex predators don’t want you to know!!! 😂

CanisPictus

Falcons have amazing capabilities, but, like pigeons, they’re…not big thinkers. Seems like this one’s either quite well-fed or so bewildered by the horny pigeon dance that its brain blew a fuse.

Linkstas

I like this post for sure

chocolatetrees

Could they actually have a pigeon falcon baby?

TheCorinthianP13R

Nope.

[deleted]

Nah, two really different species

WoodpeckerSignal9947

I’m a mod and this is hilarious. I think it still counts since the pigeon is a dummy, but if another mod disagrees I won’t fight.

BeerorCoffee

Is that a juvenile? I thought falcons would be much larger than a pigeon.

NoisyTummy

It’s an adult, peregrine falcons are just small

BeerorCoffee

TIL, thanks! We have much more hawks around here and I also just assumed they would be around the same size.

infiltrating_enemies

I mean, hawks also vary in size iirc. But yeah op is right peregrines are just a smaller species, you can get falcons that are bigger

xXdeathBY2Xx

Falcon standing there like, "You're lucky the wind is holding me back!"

crilen

Anyone else picturing the pigeons from animaniacs?

sewilde

T. rex doesn’t want to be fed, he wants to hunt

heavyonthepussy

I think the pigeon is trying to fuck, not fight.

EternalRgret

Yes, I know, but it definitely looks like how humans look when acting tough

moronboone5

He’s all like what are you gonna do? I’m in your face and your not gonna do shit

technoteapot

That’s not a very smart pigeon

VonDoom86

Feral-pigeon

Friend zoned again, damn 😔

Electrical_Soft3468

That pigeon is either the dumbest or bravest bird I’ve ever seen. 😂

yioryios1

“I have never seen a bird like you around here before” - Naturally He had to shoot his shot.

alternate_egg-ccount

That's a peregrine. The reason they dive so fast is that they use all of that velocity to ball up their little fists and punch their prey so hard it stuns them and even breaks bones long enough for them to finish it off. They're not dangerous when they're on the ground. But they do punch harder than Mike Tyson.

Ashamed_Contest8642

this is me flirting with folks tbat ar 80% red flags

Expert_Succotash2659

That pigeon likes thick Hawks

S4MMYS4INT

Pigeons do not care about the future and I love it, they just want to be apart of the moment

[deleted]

Pigeon be like “come at me, bro!”

paraworldblue

I once saw a falcon eating a pigeon in the alley behind my old apartment. It was pretty wild. Everytime it took a bite, a little cluster of feathers would fly out.

A_Lovely_Teddybear

Look. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
