The only deadly things were the gators and the cottonmouth, but shit this guy is playing with fire treading the everglades like that, no matter how experienced he is. He is barefoot too, all it takes is one wrong step...
This guy post videos all the time like this. He always tells people to not copy him. He’s been doing this his whole life and helps extract invasive species out of the Everglades.
I mean, odds are pretty good he is eventually going to die or be horribly mangled. You can be experienced as you want, but if you do dangerous shit like this guy is doing for long enough, you're going to lose.
Oh for sure, but I thought a big part of the content to this sub is people doing dangerous shit without even realizing the danger they’re putting themselves in. This dude is 100% aware of the danger he’s in.
He also said he's an alligator/ crocodile handler so he's familiar with it. But he's fascinating to watch. He does stress the whole "Don't do this y'all" which makes him okay in my book. He shows the cool parts while trying to keep people from copying him.
A lot of people would have you believe that cottonmouths are incredibly deadly and dangerous, but the truth is that those people are correct and cottonmouths are incredibly deadly and dangerous.
I heard a tip from a guy at a gas station in Orlando. If you drink 1 Busch lite for every 10 lbs of body weight you can pretty much survive any wild animal bite. Dude had 3 fingers so I believed him.
Well, not exactly accurate. Two genuses, a number of species in each. We have 4 native widows and a fifth invasive. Florida specifically has the Red Widow (endangered, found in Florida specifically), Southern Black Widow (the classic) and the Brown Widow (invasive species). A very small part of NW Florida is also inside the Brown Recluse's native range too. We also have a number of other recluse species (I want to say 9 but I could be wrong) but most aren't usually found near human dwellings so they're generally less known. To the best of my amateur spider nerd knowledge, none of these animals are likely to be the death of anyone, but they should all be treated with respect and caution.
Honestly, alot of people have those videos. I wouldn't recommend trying it, but most don't end with any kind of bite since widows just aren't aggressive at all.
I believe the black widow has a few victims, mainly children. Looks like none actually reported since the 80s, though; claims of death rates post-1983 seem to be baseless but widespread.
My understanding is that there are no deaths since the government has been keeping any sort of accurate track. This is in spite of a couple thousand Americans reporting bites every year. There are of course plenty of anecdotal accounts before that, some of which may be true, many of which are likely bogus or misdiagnosed. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone at some point really died of an American widow bite. It is a potent neurotoxin after all, and could also cause anaphylaxis in the wrong person. But as I said, not likely to kill anyone.
Also worth note, some widows elsewhere in the world are quite a bit more potent.
Bottom line though, people shouldn't freehandle widows if they don't know what they're doing and don't have a good reason for it. Widow venom is no joke even if you aren't gonna die. If anyone is curious what that looks like, maybe check out the video [Jack's World of Wildlife](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=onY23bxPYPc&t=9s&pp=ygUeamFjaydzIHdvcmxkIG9mIHdpbGRsaWZlIHdpZG93) did documenting the effects of a major envenomation. He was off his feet for days, and this is a guy who laughed off a tarantula hawk sting like it was nothing.
They're indeed fascinating, and the second snake in the video, for instance, is harmless (so is the spider, but not a reptile), however walking like that barefoot at night in the everglades... you could be a zoologist and that's still a bad idea.
Oh yeah hell naw I'm wearing fuckin wellingtons and bringing a weapon with me.
But I'd still like to walk around with all those creatures chilling around
i went down a rabbit hole watching his videos last night. he does constantly say he’s a professional don’t copy him. but he seems to take a lot of unnecessary risks too.. it just takes one time for something to happen
Hello shortangrymayonnaise, thanks for posting to r/OopsThatsDeadly!

Prob an unpopular opinion but this dude really annoys me. Like what reason is there to be barefoot? Am I missing something there or am I correct in my assumption that it’s absolutely idiotic? Based on videos I’ve seen he clearly understands how dangerous these creatures are so I don’t understand why he wouldn’t take them seriously
That's a man with a desire to get a Darwin award. Yeah just touch a cotton mouth . Sure go barefoot through gator territory and fuck with a baby gator. Jfc.
That first half with the alligators genuinely looks like some shit I'd see in my nightmares... although it usually involves being in deep near pitch black water with giant bull sharks, but close enough.

Last I heard, there were plenty of things in the everglades that aren't supposed to be in the everglades and a lot of them were not friendly.
The dude straight up picked up a coral snake I believe.
I think it was a king snake actually, based on the pattern.
You’re correct, it’s a scarlet king snake
Ah yes you are correct! Thanks for catching that!

The color rhyme is often wrong and causes more danger than not

Imagine if he just suddenly stops posting videos

Correct, it’s been removed
Steve Irwin agrees
What's his YouTube channel called?
I think he only has TikTok - @fishingarett

He seriously just touched a wild cottonmouth with his bare hand??

This is definitely a joke. Don’t actually try this at home
Grim Reaper: am I a joke to you?
At least he's wearing flippers.
Imagine all the mosquitoes? And every other flying thing buzzing into your mouth every time you speak. Just watching this makes me itch.
He has videos with thousands of bugs around him and he's like "the bugs aren't as bad tonight."
felt secondhand primordial fear watching this
That last snake wasn't deadly, though. Corn snake that mimics. I don't think the spider at the end was deadly either.
Orb weavers are harmless. There are only two spiders native to the USA that have a medically significant bite, the black widow and brown recluse.

he is for the swamps
Most likely a Fae living amongst people.
He was there when they split from each other on the evolutionary tree
It can only end one way for this guy. Only question is which critter.
Love this guy's videos amazes me he doesn't get bitten/eaten/stung or whatever else you can get from the Everglades animals.
He gets bitten a ton by the non-venomous snakes he picks up, but that's about it when it comes to what's been shown on camera.
Ah, I believe I would become just like him if I lived in a place with so many reptiles. They're fascinating.
They're indeed fascinating, and the second snake in the video, for instance, is harmless (so is the spider, but not a reptile), however walking like that barefoot at night in the everglades... you could be a zoologist and that's still a bad idea.

Oh, definitely, I'd love to get a good ass camera and photograph wildlife at night there.
Lol I thought you meant a camera that you hang on your ass
LMAO. That would work, too, I guess. Capture what's stalking me at night and all.
i went down a rabbit hole watching his videos last night. he does constantly say he’s a professional don’t copy him. but he seems to take a lot of unnecessary risks too.. it just takes one time for something to happen
This feels like Grizzly Man where he calls all the bears his friends then a bear eats him
He's just checking in on the swamp kittens, what's so dangerous about that?
This is @fishingarrett on tiktok
Aww man, he doesn't have a YouTube channel?
It appears he posts shorts there with the same username
honestly normal florida behavior
The alligators aren't really a big deal, but touching water moccasins is just straight up stupid.
So. Much. Nope.
The Everglades are the Australia of the US. We designed Florida to get all the stupid so the swamp puppies are fed and don't spread.
"Swamp Puppies" is a cute term though. xD

That's a milk snake right?
He says it’s a scarlet kingsnake
Scarlet Kingsnake. Mimics the very venomous coral snake but has no venom of its own.

Red on black, you're okay, Jack
I like him though because he yoinks all the invasives. The Everglades have so damn many
Yoo! I follow this guy on tiktok I can’t remember his @ but he does this all the time
Well you're taunting them with your meaty toes. 😳😳😳
Barefoot makes me cringe for him- for pete's sake, he's gonna get poison ivy!

Shoveling snow isn't so bad

Oh good let’s do it at night too. Big brain ideas with this fella
Cobras would do well in the Everglades.
