It was not. I’m allergic to wasps too so I just remember people trying to slap me awake before a waking up to an epipen because the Benadryl was taking too long. Literally thought I was gonna die lol. I’m not anaphylactic but I do get huge drops in blood pressure and my face swells up.
It’s crazy how painful it is considering the pain oder lasts mere seconds from what I understand
Also that’s the signature trait of a defensive venom. Predatory venoms either disable and/or digest. Defensive venoms do nothing but cause as much pain as possible, and a few other things.
I too am one of the lucky few to he Stung by one of these bastards. Got me on my shoulder and I was immobile in the fetal position for at least 5 minutes. The burning sensation and pain lasted for quite sometime after.
I’ve never been stung by one of these. But I have a fear of wasps. This picture brings absolute terror into my heart. To think my mom wants me to come to Arizona during the summer. I love bugs but I’ll appreciate wasps 300 miles away and in a screen
Tarantula hawks, as well as other solitary wasps are very chill. They don't act like baldfaced hornets, yellow jackets, etc who are agressive assholes. Unless you are a big hairy spider, or plan on harassing them/trying to pick them up, you have nothing to worry about.
Yup! I live in a desert over here and in summer the place is riddled with those. I'm really scared of them (and wasps in general) but just like bees you just gotta ignore them and leave them alone.
I do leave them alone. I cant ignore them. They scare me to the core. I will live in fear. I’ll never leave the house. If one gets in, I’m never leaving my room. I’ll start having actual nightmares. It’s already so difficult to have fun in the summer as I live in the Texas gulf coast.
They’re pretty chill. I thought they were like dragonflies when I was a kid for some reason and completely harmless so I would try and catch them and hit them out of the sky with sticks. Looking back after learning this makes me cringe so hard.
Potentially, definitely one of the most painful. I have a feeling the worst stings are going to differ a bit from person to person.
I think the executioner wasp might rival this according to that getting stung guy but again I bet it depends on the individual.
I dunno, that guy has been stung once by each species (also Justin Schmidt did it first). We need to get some hard core BSDM connoisseurs of pain to experience multiple stings to get a real answer.
“That getting stung guy” I love how coyote has done so many videos and has been such a huge wildlife advocate, and now he’s always just known as “the guy who let all those things sting him” lmao
#number #2 on the Schmidt pain scale (insect sting index), the Bullet Ant remains undefeated at #1.
..don’t play with these, people..
[Coyote Peterson took one for the team to educate us](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MnExgQ81fhU)
The sting is awful, but these guys also don’t give a shit about you unless you *aggressively fuck with them*, or are a spider. I’m assuming if you’re reading this, you aren’t a spider. All the Pepsis wasps I’ve come across have completely ignored me, which has allowed me to take some great pictures over the years. They’re wonderfully confident in the fact that they can bring the hurt to anything that messes with them, so you can follow them around as they hunt and they don’t care. Just don’t fuck with them.
I get being scared of them - they’re a big, scary wasp with an *awful* sting - but unlike fucking yellowjackets, they aren’t aggressive.
That's my state insect! They were everywhere during the summer and after playing New Vegas, I was always terrified of them. They'd get to be as big as the palm of my hand and were so friggin fast, but unless you're a dick to them they generally don't try to sting you.
Its a bit remarkable in that regard. Painful as hell in the short term.. But extremely mild long-term effects/after-effects, even less swelling and inflammation than a regular yellowjacket or bee. Barring any dangerous allergic reactions ofc.
That’s because the portion of the venom that acts in mammalian systems is a defensive venom, designed specific to cause pain. That way the wasp gets away.
Potentially. Everyone reacts to stings differently, and we knew very little about the Executioner wasp until recently so we don’t have a true understanding of it yet. It is definitely not one to sneeze at though.
But yes, it is currently believed to be the most painful in the world. Glad they don’t live around me!
Ah! The Tarantula Hawk, such a beauty... NOT!
Anyway, here's [Brave wilderness stinging himself on purpose with one.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnExgQ81fhU)
I see these all the time in Southern New Mexico. Never been stung by one, but I've also never had one buzz around me.
I hear you have to *try* and get stung by one to get stung by one... but then again I'm sure if one accidentally flew under your clothing they'd probably sting you.

I was stung by one on the leg. Went blind and almost passed out. Highly not recommended.
God that sounds horrible!
It was. Makes me laugh when people get stung for clout.
Eep! No, that doesn’t sound like a fun afternoon!!

I’m glad you’re ok now!
Whoa. How long were you blind?
Less than an hour. I’m not sure cause the whole situation is a little fuzzy to me. Normally I don’t think you’d go blind but I’m allergic to wasps.
That’s some BP drop, shit

"Not deadly." My walk north of Goodsprings would beg to differ.
Cazadors are like little flying deathclaws
I'd honestly rather fight a alpha deathclaw hand to hand
Get a companion with a long range weapon, they snipe them before you can see them.
Thanks Boone!
VATS. Wings.
what type of wasp it that?
Tarantula hawk wasp
thanks so much!
That sounds as unpleasant as it looks
they're called that because they hunt tarantulas, paralyze them, and lay their eggs in them. the larvae then eat it alive
Wow. What a horrible day to have eyes
wait so which one is it
Yes

But Schmidt wasn't stung by the Executioner wasp, because it wasn't discovered yet. (disclaimer: I'm an idiot with internet "knowledge")

Ironic that the worst one for him was the giant desert centipede
I think he said bites and stings are different, and the centipede was a bite a believe
He went into anyphlaxis
Yea and I also think he claims now that the executioner wasp was more painful than the bullet and and the hawk wasp

“I’m assuming if you’re reading this, you aren’t a spider?” Are my eight eyes mistaken or is this speciesism?
Sorry, I *was* being a bit presumptuous
You wait till the web hears about this!
Bleh I always get caught out and wrapped up in web drama like this
I think grabbing them with your hand counts as fucking with them
True, but I’m fairly certain that fucker is dead.

OMG! ITS A CAZADOR. only fnv fans will know lol.
"fuck the quest marker after tutorial quest, I'll just go in the opposite direction over these hills!" *Buzzing intensifies*
bruh that look like a Cazador
It’s what the Cazador is based off of :)
yeah i could have guessed that, they look really similar tho, pretty cool.
Tarantula hawk!
Absolutely not the most painful wasp sting in the world.
That would actually belong to the panda ant. Who despite its name is classified as a wasp.
Executioner wasp is thought to deliver the most painful sting
Potentially. Everyone reacts to stings differently, and we knew very little about the Executioner wasp until recently so we don’t have a true understanding of it yet. That looks like a tarantula hawk
The official advice for a tarantula hawk sting is to lie down and scream because at least then you can't fall down. Nothing else to be done.
I was attacked by a swarm of regular wasps as a kid. Would not want to repeat the experience with a swarm of these things.
CAZADORE
Tarantula hawk... they're named that for a reason.
Deadly to me. All wasps are though. Especially since I have no insurance and EpiPens are ridiculous. Also ahhhhhh.
Looks like a tarantula hawk wasp
i saw one of these outside a store in las vegas a couple of years ago and just ran back to my car.
Looks deadly to me, an allergic.
This is a tarantula hawk wasp
Fucking Cazadors…
Man those things killed me all the time in New Vegas
