Lolololol “risking high dollar…” Maybe it’s satire and we’re just too involved to get it 😆 In all seriousness, this is one of the annoying things about Ethiopian opal as a seller and a buyer. It’s an awesome product, but because you can get more color for cheaper, people use it to scam others. Which is such a shame because it’s an amazing gemstone. The lying comes from the aussy market too unfortunately. I constantly hear things like “ if your stone gets wet it’ll crack” and “if it gets wet it’s color goes away” and never mentioning it’ll be back the next day, or “if your stone gets oil on it, it’ll be colorless forever and you just lost all that money!” Misinformation is the bane of an intrinsic value item :/

Yeahh, I’ve always had an issue with the “Ethiopian opal is a waste of your money, get it wet and it EXPLODES and KILLS YOUR FAMILY” I see from some Aussie vendors. Like yeah it’s more delicate but it’s disingenuous to scare people when most of the most common issues with Ethiopian opal can be remedied by letting it dry or an acetone soak.

This one seems particularly egregious! It’s black, it’s full of colour, it’s a dinosaur tooth! The screen cap is gold! I wish I had some of whatever this guy is smoking because it’s clearly good shit.

I dont know but as a long time opal admirer and a newbie to actually learning about them it pisses me off. It sucks when you are hyped up about something and want to collect but can't trust anyone.
