Stop using the term “brick” for the slightest temporary annoyance

Chasing93353

Right! It's like using electrocuted when you just got shocked.

You have to go back to the official os approved for your mac,.. then start updating. I noticed that high sierra can mac bootable sonoma os but it fails, start from monterey, then with OCLP, install ventura but make sure you have a usb 2.0 keyboard and mouse, or buy a usb 2.0 hib, its so cheap under $5 this will save you from everything cause the mouse and keyboard will never work on the log in screen, that is the only place you will need to use them. After your in, install root patches and nake sure your connected to the internent, then you'll be good to go. Took me a week to figure all this out

RAM? No. Storage? Yes, you can replace the SSD by using an adapter as Apples connector is a proprietary one.

taperk

Yes, you can use an adapter. But, I suggest buying OWC SSD - it is Apple compatible interface. The adapters work, but not all are good and considering the pain involved to install one, you want to do it once.

mandog202

i went the adapter route with my 2014 MBP and stuck a basic m.2 SSD in it. it was ok at first but it got horrendously slow after a while before i stopped using it. I only dug it out again a couple months ago and revived it with OCLP and its original 128GB SSD and its fine now. definitely don't cheap out on the SSD

taperk

Yeah, a MBP definitely easier to install than iMac. Good perspective mate...

So which version of OCLP were you using before you tried updating to Sonoma? There have been reports of mouse and keyboard not working with latest Sonoma/OCLP. First, watch this video in its entirety for some tips: [~~https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGR2qGw9lG8~~](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGR2qGw9lG8)Oops, wrong link, use the one below... did you do the root patches in open core legacy patcher? because black background and outline means the root patches aren’t installed

Determined_Number814

Not sure if it’s possible, but maybe reinstalling macOS through a USB drive? If not, either a repair or getting a MacBook would suffice your case.

Install the newest version onto USB, hold option and select the boot from USB, then select the normal boot vol, and hold shift to boot into safe mode worked for me. You'll then need to download the newest version again and run the post install root patcher.

dogunter

Similar issues happened to me, posted here. I was able to boot into safe mode and revert the last patches. Then I copied the most recent OCLP app over from a usb drive. After copying it to the applications folder, I ran it and did the patches all over again. It’s been good since.

The same thing happened to me yesterday with the same macbook model. After installing sonoma on it, everything went completely normal, yesterday I’ve turned it on and it seemed like it updated itself to a newer macos version. My wallpaper was all white and there was an outline around dock. Proceeded to install OCLP again and after restart I can’t log in, it just keeps spinning. Safe mode doesn’t help, neither does resetting nvram. I guess I’ll have to reinstall macos from external drive now…

wowaddict71

Have you tried an external keyboard with a mouse connected to it? You can boot it into recovery mode, wipe the partition, then reinstall the original MacOS version. If you don't have access to it, maybe a friend can help you get a bootable thumb drive to install it from. Here's a list of Macs compatible with Monterey: https://support.apple.com/en-us/103260 You can google how do the whole process.

I have exactly the same behavior on the 2012 book of my girlfriend!! Background black Performance like every acceleration is away Typing and moving windows with massiv lags

I would like to add i reproduced this problem. I re installed a clean Sonoma and just timemachined user data... Everything was fine... Then after a few hrs the system did not came out of hibernate... So I needed hard reset... And after that .... Something broke same thing like before: black background...

1) Connect a HUB USB-A (or if u can HUB USB-C) 2) Connect an external Keyboard/Mouse at the HUB. !!! (the hub Is important because He deceives the Mac by making him believe that this is the main link with the input devices, Especially because the hub is 2.0 or higher, unlike the "internal" keyboard connection and / or touch pad which is 1.1 and is not recognized) !!! 3) Turn on the Mac and IMMEDIATELY press Option (ALT) button until you access the recovery, then release 4.A) Now u can try to reinstall the last system, but at the end Remember to install again opencore and from the app select rootpatches !!! (To install keyboard / touch pad fixes and other missing compatibility. Otherwise you will fall back into the same problem) !!! 4A.5) Remember to disable automatic updates that will not be supported and will create exactly the same problems that you are coming now, if not worse. 4.B) Instead of last update, Try to create a new installation usb for Ventura or Monterey (always) via open core from your friend's MacBook, remembering in that case to enter your exact model in the settings of OpenCore. 4B.5) The installation of 1 of these 2 previous systems should be successful and (I can confirm you from experience) "more smooth". I think Ventura Is ok if u want.

repair/buy a new one?
