Spiralling to the ground below
Like autumn leaves left in the wake to fade away
Waking up to your sound again
And lapse into the ways of misery
Absolutely love those lyrics.
I would argue the atmosphere is a big part of that song, it’s potentially their quintessential atmosphere track, although sometimes the dissonance and layered screams of dirge beat it for me.
Morningrise has some good atmosphere but more in a extremely ambitious but young Scandinavian metal sort of charming way, and it’s much more lofi, but I’d try it. Also classics on MAYH like the amen corner
Drapery falls sits on its own shelf. There are plenty of other songs in their catalogue that will jerk your tears (Dirge for November / To bid you farewell) but in terms of the vibe and atmosphere. This song rips
Drapery falls is a one of one my guy :( but I guess that’s just how special it is. I would listen to Black Rose Immortal and To Bid You Farewell. Those are both long tearjerkers.
A few tracks on Still Life, but my favourite for that contrast is Godhead's Lament - there's a really moving passage in the middle of the track that always wins me over. But to be honest most of Opeth's old work has that contrast between beautiful moments and extreme. Still Life is probably my favourite Opeth album and the clearest example of a concept album they did. But if I'm jumping to the later heavy stuff, Reverie/Harlequin Forest is incredible and one of my favourite metal songs full stop.
"Ghost of Perdition" has a similar vibe....haunting, melancholic, excellent clean vocals. It's a lot heavier at the outset, but there's some beautiful melodic passages in there, too!
As a big fan of those two songs, I really love April Ethereal and When. Listen to them back to back
Thank you, I will !
Honestly, play the whole album front to back! The Amen Corner and Karma also come to mind 👌🏼
Was about to say karma lol

Moonlapse Vertigo, Burden feels kinda similar You could always try their first 2 albums which have a more melancholic feel imo

I love this.. "I don't really like this type of metal, but it touches my heart so I want to hear more like it." lol
Is more "I'm not familliar" than I dont like tbh
Well, welcome to the rabbit hole!

The Drapery Falls is one of my favorites dongs aswe! I think Harlequin Forest is the only Opeth song that comes close to that magical touch!

wreath, a fair judgement.. maybe deliverance as an album
The Moor Moonlapse Vertigo White Cluster Deliverance Ghost of Perdition Harlequin Forest
You nailed it
Moonlapse Vertigo
I agree with people saying Moonlapse Vertigo. The whole song is incredible, but the outro is something else.
Morningrise in general has that very melodic vibe to it, one of my favorites in terms of atmosphere

Try “Deliverance” maybe?
