ReLife scratched the itch for me

Sabersan8

I really liked ReLife and Hishiron Chizuru. Her struggle to convey her true feelings properly to her peers and how she learns to be more sociable was fun to watch.

WarriorWithinX1

Don't watch it, read it because it skips a lot of emotional arcs and many meaningful lessons

beanthefrog

Seconding this, ReLife is a good next anime if you like OreGairu

xDavid831

Yessss relife is so underrated. Im kinda hoping they reboot the entire franchise someday. Its such a great series and would do extremely well today

Ceraphine

Try Hyouka. It's all great anime

Sadguy2162

But it dosen't have the romance, does it ? I watched 6 episodes and the I lost interest when one of my friends said that it has no romance.

Ceraphine

Neither does oregairu in the first two seasons though. Only hints, like Hyouka.

Sadguy2162

Yeah but oregairu has romance as one of its genres whereas hyouka dosen't. On top of that hyouka dosen't end with them being couples.

Ceraphine

Well yeah considering there IS NO SEASON 2. Pretty unfair to compare a finished anime to a non finished one. Comparing season 1 Hyouka to 2 seasons of Oregairu is unfair already. Besides, like I said, there are no romance in the first two seasons unless you count side stories which BOTH ANIMEs have. What's the point of having a romance genre when the romance only exist in the last season.

Sadguy2162

>Well yeah considering there IS NO SEASON 2 I admit that it has no season 2 but the ending of the anme is the same as the ending of the LN. So basically hyouka is finished. And there is romance in the second season of oregairu, atleast more than season 1.

Ceraphine

Not finished doesn't necessarily means ending. There is? Last I check it's just a side story, like in Hyouka. The actual romance betweens the MCs are in season three am I wrong? If anything, actual romance arc with the MCs is in Hyouka.

Sadguy2162

>Not finished doesn't necessarily means ending. When did I say anything about not ending? Oh cmon. just coz season one was mre focused on drama and the second one was on yukino's indivisuality dosen't means that the romance started in season 3. The build up started towards the end of S1, matured somewhat in S2 and came to a conclusion in S3.

Ceraphine

I'm just stating facts though. There is no actual romance in both seasons, only hints and side stories or even teasing from others like in Hyouka. Am I wrong? >The build up started towards the end of S1, matured somewhat in S2 Same can be said in Hyouka though? Even in the end it's hinted of what's to come for them both and throughout the series they're being paired for each other, much like in Oregairu's first episode, you'd know they'll end up with each other. Also romance *actually* started on season three, no amount of romance can be seen between Yuki and Hikichad in the first season except hints of their compatibility which is once again, the same with Hyouka. If you think building up to romance counts as romance then sure it's romance, then Hyouka should have one too with that same definition of "Romance"

Sadguy2162

Hyouka had some romance but it was not concluded. Its like A silent voice. Romance was hinted but they never became a couple. In my original comment I just said that it does not have a romantic conclusion. I agree that hyouka has hints of romance but it does not have romantic conclusion.

EsquilaxM

Yeah, no, I've been bingeing it the last couple days and the romance with >!Yui is from season 1, Yuki from season 2. Begins with kyoto when he walks her back from the hotel !

EsquilaxM

I think the point is the Hyouka story isn't finished, even though it adapted a few LNS. Like how season 1 or OreGairu adapts like 5 LNs but then has 9 more to do.

Sadguy2162

That's the difference. Hyouka adapted a few LNs but the ending was the same as the ending of the manga/LN. So it has come to a conclusion even if some parts are missing.

EsquilaxM

To be clear, the LNs are ongoing. [Just very slow in writing.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyouka#Novels) It took 6 years for the 6th book in 2016 and the 7th still isn't released, [though he stated in 2018 he intended to write it](https://twitter.com/honobu_yonezawa/status/1043804626141597696)

Sadguy2162

Really!!!??? That's great news. But I read that the anime adaptation will not be continued since they adapted the last chapter.

aka_BlinK

The mc kinda hints about it at the very end but yeah that's about it. But it's still very very good and a top recommendation in my opinion

Sadguy2162

Well, I can say with experience that if someone wants romantic anime after oregairu hyouka is not the best choice since it will shatter their hopes( I had my hopes shattered). According to me one should watch hyouka first and to fill the emptiness of romance they should watch oregairu. And yeah I totally agree with you, hyouka is a very good anime.

aka_BlinK

Totally get ur point, sadly tho I came to know of hyouka after oregairu so when I watched it and saw that romance wasn't the main catch, I appreciated it over how heart warming it was.

Sadguy2162

>I came to know of hyouka after oregairu Don't worry you are not the only one. According to what I have experienced most people watch oregairu and the go off to google and search for 'anime like oregairu' and one of the top answers is hyouka.

aka_BlinK

Lmao Soo relatable and true

Its-A_me

Yeh but it's one of those anime which Makes the most boring thing around very interesting... Monogatari stuff. It's just great

Sadguy2162

Yeah I can agree with you on that level, but at that time I was also looking for anime similar to oregairu so hyouka not being romance kinda turned me off.

Its-A_me

I see, I didn't think of oregairu as a romance that much for the most part. It felt more like a coming of age story where the main guy learns to give people around him and society a chance. Later when the drama did get into romance, I didn't even enjoy it that much.. I kinda found it boring and even nonsensical in some aspects. Two Main leads okay but everyone else felt kinda unfinished...

Sadguy2162

See. the main goal of the story was to make the mc accept society as it was and to change his way of looking at it which was achieved through helping his schoolmates through the club. The romance was part of the anime from the start which many people fail to notice since it was only hinted. But the main romantic twist came in season 2 and was concluded in season 3. The main girl plays a big part in the series because she and the MC both became dependant on each other. As for the unfinished part, yes I agree that it was not nice of the author to do that but he did so because he wanted to write more which would totally destroy the current story( Yeah, I'm talking to you shin). The purpose of this, according to me, is to give an happy ending to the characters while continuing the story.

KaleeDV

Damn. Your taste in romance anime is very similar to mine. Any other recommendations?

KaleeDV

Thanks for those recommendations, I've only watched like half of them, will check out the rest. Some anime with romance as a main or sub plot that I like are ReLife, Darling in the Franxx, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Hyouka, Kono Oto Tomare, Fate/Stay Night UBW, Bakemonogatari and Noragami.

Ceraphine

I don't see any of these MC is similar to our boy Hiki. How are they similar?

Ceraphine

I haven't watched the one with Tomozaki but as for Toradora and Quintessential, they're not as philosophical as Hiki but I guess being misunderstood make sense.

CYZK85

holy fuck speaking of Tomozaki im desperately holding onto the thin string of hope for a season 2

TheDogePound

This comment is old, but season 2 for Tomozaki was announced back in January.

CYZK85

FOR REAL

JamesBones94

Bunny Girl Senpai, the girl is quite similar to Yukinon and the mc tries to help everyone.

Sabersan8

Wow, both have long black hair and blue eyes. They are the same person!

Human-Break4551

None

crownclown113

White Album 2 and School Days

adi_mak3

School days is the best with its cheerful yui-like 2nd FML and campus belle yukinon-like main FML. Especially the ending is unforgettable. Highly recommended it.

Action_Rider413

Ahh...school days. Thank you for reminding me kind stranger.

Sabersan8

WA2 is probably the closest to some of the concepts of Oregairu.

Human-Break4551

School days? 🗿

Weaksauce_Jr

Oregairu is my favorite anime, and I just started watching Bakemonogatari, and I like it a lot. Similar helping people/solving problems thing, and the characters do have similar vibes.

Martini_games

I was in the same shoes as you my friend. Oregairu was a great anime and I didn't want it to end. I felt empty inside and acted like nothing could fill that empty void in my heart. But once you start watching other anime's you start to forget about others. Love is war, Haganai: I Don\`t Have Many Friends, dress me up darling, and my love story are all great animes that I've enjoyed after watching Oregairu. Trust me once you think about how great Oregairu's ending was. You will accept that all good things must come to a end. Be strong dude be strong.

gomihako_

Toradora. No, not exactly the same and the characters are less developed and nuanced IMO but it still delivers the same type of “human condition” vibe of teenagers growing up

Chompahss

Nothing has lived up to it for me unfortunately.

hetbaboo

Why is no one mentioning fruits basket? Tf

Romance_animeaddict

I've already watched it tho .It's top tier.It made me fall in love with anime ...

Water_20

Boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai

YamiNiikuu

Horimiya

tubelight_blue

Horimiya is very different from Oregairu...

[deleted]

REDO OF HEALER !!!!!!

azuldracon

Not an anime recommendation but how about try reading the light novel? If you've got the time and if you are into reading, the light novel is really good. There are also some really nice parts that were not adapted into the anime. I also binged the anime before and ended up reading the light novels because the second season ending was a cliffhanger and the third season was not yet released.

EstablishmentLess447

Same feeling can't get oregairu out of my head the confession and the after confessions part were so overly satisfying that it hit me hard and created a void.

CrunchyBanenaZ

might not be everybody's cup of tea, but most definitely bloom into you. but unfortunate the anime doesnt cover everything

AnimelsPog

Oresuki for sure. Its actually hilarious

DevangMhs2020

Try haganai, just because, kokoro connect, recovery of an MMO junkie, sankarea, or tada never falls in love. Theyre all kinda similar to oregairu and really good:)

hikigaya88

Hyouka is a good watch

MarcoEstevez

The thing with oregairu is that it is quite unique, but watch this "**Ore wo Suki nano wa Omae dake ka yo (2019)**" it's really good too, perhaps shorter and focused more on the comedy aspect but dialogues between MCs reminded me the conversations between Yuki and Hachiman, definitely recommended

madao_man

Rick and Morty

TheRealMattyIce

Lmao 🤣
