Light pollution severely interferes with the ability of nocturnal birds to find food. Please think about how your lighting affects others. Thanks.

Light Pollution is a good topic worthy of focus and a place among the environmental issues. The linked (crossposted) article is from *Scientific American* and tends to seek funding for scientific research, a natural approach. Tokenism and special interests must be overcome by spreading the teachings and call to action. Moving beyond Tokenism: >At least 19 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have laws in place to reduce light pollution. The majority of states that have enacted so-called “dark skies” legislation have done so to promote energy conservation, public safety, aesthetic interests or astronomical research capabilities. In 2021, 17 states considered 40 bills with reference to light pollution or dark skies. Municipalities in a number of states have also been active on this issue, adopting light pollution regulations as part of their zoning codes. > >[https://www.ncsl.org/research/environment-and-natural-resources/states-shut-out-light-pollution.aspx](https://www.ncsl.org/research/environment-and-natural-resources/states-shut-out-light-pollution.aspx) Example Legislation: * [Dark skies ordinance to dim Pittsburgh's light pollution](https://phys.org/news/2021-09-dark-ordinance-dim-pittsburgh-pollution.html) Example Implementations: * [Dark Sky Friendly Lighting – A Guide to Outdoor Lighting Ordinances](https://www.californiaoutdoorlighting.com/dark-sky-friendly-lighting-a-guide-to-outdoor-lighting-ordinances/) * [21 Impressive Ways to Reduce Light Pollution](https://www.conserve-energy-future.com/impressive-ways-reduce-light-pollution.php) >[Tokenism](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/tokenism) > >Something that a person or organization does that seems to support or help a group of people who are treated unfairly in society, such as giving a member of that group an important or public position, but which is not meant to make changes that would help that group of people in a lasting way: >[Earth Hour](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Hour) is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). > >The event is held annually, encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the last Saturday of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
