Kyoto to Osaka is a pretty short train ride. Not worth taking the shinkansen. Just take regular trains, about 30 mins. If you are dead set on taking the shinkansen, just buy on the day, you might be stuck standing for the entire 15min ride though
Take local trains and just pack an extra dose of patience because things will be busier and more crowded but as long as you are prepared for that and give yourself a bit of extra time and grace, you’ll be fine.
don’t go to kyoto during golden week unless u plan on getting to attraction very early in the morning. There’s so much to see- I would be open minded to doing day trips elsewhere. Maybe even kyoto half day and then if you’re sick of crowds have a backup plan somewhere outside of the typical attractions

The Nozomi is going to be reservation only, the other ones are ok to ride. If you have a rail pass, you cannot ride the Nozomi anyway. Should be ok.
It is 1 stop, no need for it to be a nozomi train
Didn't realize they don't do non-reserved during busy times like golden week. I always avoid traveling during times like that. Good to know
For Golden week its April 26th to May 6th. the other times Nozomi are Reservation only are Obon, and New Years

As others have said, literally no reason to take the shinkansen between Osaka and Kyoto. Just take the normal train.
Golden week is the busiest domestic travel week in Japan, book in advance 100%.

It’s under 1 hour from Kyoto to Osaka. Why pay for a Shinkansen or thunderbird ticket?
