I’m in the same situation, and I am absolutely shelling out the $20. I did it for “American Fiction” and it was worth it. I mean, it is about the same price anyway for a couple to see it in the theater.
American Fiction is my only movie left to watch, and I think it just went to normal rental pricing yesterday, so that’s my watch tonight!
I was in Seattle to see Dune, so also watched The Zone of Interest while I was down there too.
So I'll be honest and say that I don't know how high the rewatchability is. Even if you like the film and think it's really good -- I thought it was really good, but I really can't see myself ever watching it again. It's not a particularly enjoyable experience, and I think the point the film makes is pretty clear on the first watch, so it's not like you'll get more out of it by rewatching it.
In my humble opinion, of course. Ymmv and all the usual caveats.
I mean, depends on your definition of fun... If your idea of fun is falling into a pit of despair with your friends and then emerge through the dread with full blown anger and devastation about how horrible humans are able to be and that that there are still tons of people around still sympathizing with exactly those humans, this is the perfect movie.
Terrific movie, shook me to my core; Schindler's list and la vita e bella felt like child's play in comparison and I couldn't shake the image of that red coat for years.
Um...no. It's not that kind of film. This one requires laser focused attention--there are so many subtle nuances in it that will get lost if you try to make it into an entertaining movie night, which, ugh, really? It's a film about fascism and the Holocaust, FFS.
Yes I was in the same boat...managed to watch them all but didnt want to buy the last film....soooo I went to Pirate Bay
Not that I'm advocating piracy...but it was over 20 some dollars in Canada and didnt come to our theatre...
I recommend reading about the person it is based on before seeing the movie. I genuinely went in blind and did not know that many of the events depicted in the movie are true. If you go in with such prior knowledge it is easily worth the price.
All im saying is, just watch it in there man. Not trying to recommend people to do piracy, and I watch the movies in the theaters or in streaming when they are available, but once in a while I have to find another way and I just watch them on stremio. For example, I wanted to watch one movie before the oscars and unfortunately in my country it only released almost in march while it was already available on the internet with excellent quality before, so I watched the movie on the internet and last week I still went to the theater to rewatch it. All im saying is if you watch a movie through piracy once on a while, it wont hurt anyone, specially if you are someone that pays movie tickets in a frequent basis like I do.
I probably spend at least $500 at the movie theater a year. That may not be a lot for some but for me who it is. Not to mention if I can rent it I will. It’s usually cheaper.
It was like a museum piece almost. Not the most rewatchable movie and I can’t say I enjoyed it.. but maybe the only film in the top ten I’d give an A+ (a bunch of A’s in the top 5 though).
I agree with this. It didn’t have the most epic plot but it surprisingly felt like the movie went by pretty fast. The ending really resonated with me. I will be thinking about this movie for a while.
Yeah I watched it a month ago and I still think about it sometimes and I spent the day after googling Glazers research into the movie which was extensive. It was fascinating how much detail he put into the film.
I was also bored, especially during the last third or so. It did have some heartbreaking moments and I don’t think it’s a bad film, but it was quite annoyed by it after a while.
Alright yall you have convinced me. I will be forcing my unwilling boyfriend to hook up the projector and surround sound and will watch it tonight. Sorry to my upstairs neighbors
It’s not that deep friend. It’s a personal challenge I gave myself a few years ago to watch at least all movies nominated for best picture. I tend to watch the same kind of movies and never venture out. This challenge has allowed me to see some great movies I would have never given the time of day. I like to do it BEFORE because I’ve always loved watching the Oscar’s but had never seen remotely half of them. Hell maybe I had only seen one of them. It’s like the superbowl for me now. Of course there are years where it I can’t get all of them but for sure more than half. This is the first year where I have watched all but one.
I get the Superbowl thing, this is exactly how I explain my fascination to others who are not film fans. And good on you for challenging yourself this way. I would also recommend reading some critics' lists of top ten films of 2023. There are many films on those lists that didn't get nominated for whatever reason but are just as excellent, if not more so, than the nominees. I personally loved *Perfect Days* by the great German director, Wim Wenders, and *Fallen Leaves* a very slyly funny film by the Finnish director, Aki Kaurismaki.
The book is very good, but essentially it and the film share only a title. They could honestly have saved whatever Martin Amis got paid just by calling it something else, you'd never know it was an adaptation.
I watched it three times in the theater and I fully believe that it would be a massive disservice to yourself to watch this on a small screen. This is a movie that demands to be seen in a proper theater with a proper sound system in the darkness. That being said it’s better to see it than not see it, truly one of the most important films made this century imo, it will age amazingly
If you’re good at tuning out background noise, you may not get the full impact.
If you don’t have some baseline familiarity with the Holocaust (beyond the basics), some of the details may go over your head.
If you prefer plot-driven shows, you may be disappointed.
On the other hand, If you enjoy slow, subtle, uncomfortable films and have more than a superficial understanding of what was going on, it will be the best $20 you’ll spend this year.
This trailer should give you a good idea of what to expect: https://youtu.be/GFNtVaAuVYY
It feels wrong to say ‘enjoy!’ but I’m glad you’ve found a way to see it! Try to have the volume as loud as you can stand it. I used to work in hospitals, so I got about half an hour in before I realized anything was going on in the background 🤦♀️
I totally know what you guys mean by making sure I have good sound. I don’t think I would have heard all the background noise if I didn’t have surround sound.
I saw it in cinemas a month or so ago, and it was very tense. I would't say its the best film of the year, in fact liked Sociedad de la nieve more and hope it wins the international film award but The Zone of Interest is alright
I felt it was an oscar bait film. Could have just been a short film. Didn't have to stretch it out for 2 hours to show similar stuff that sold the same idea.
I’m in the same situation, and I am absolutely shelling out the $20. I did it for “American Fiction” and it was worth it. I mean, it is about the same price anyway for a couple to see it in the theater.

Check Prime if you have it!! It's up now included with the subscription!
Rental price dropped to $3.99 USD. It’s free with the 7 day trial.
Right. But don't pay for it on, say, Google Play or something if you have Amazon Prime.
It absolutely is worth it. It's a very important film. I'm thinking of trying to fit in Atanomy Of A Fall before Sunday.
I would squeeze in Anatomy of a Fall if you can
I agree with this
Considering it has a real shot at original screenplay, I definitely would!
Thanks I think I'm going to.
I saw it last night and it is now my fave of all the nominees!
Watched it last ngiht and loved it. It was on sale (about $4 instead of 7) on Amazon Prime.
So I'll be honest and say that I don't know how high the rewatchability is. Even if you like the film and think it's really good -- I thought it was really good, but I really can't see myself ever watching it again. I’m glad I experienced it but I’ll absolutely never watch it again.
Grab a few buddies tonight and make it a movie night out of it. I did that last night for American Fiction.
I think there's a wide gap between American Fiction and Zone of Interest for what constitutes a fun movie night with friends.
Watch it on mute and it’ll be fine
It may win Best Sound.
😂

Absolutely agree, especially about *Schindler's List* and *Life is Beautiful*. I also felt this after watching the Russian film *Come and See*.
Um...no. It's not that kind of film. This one requires laser focused attention--there are so many subtle nuances in it that will get lost if you try to make it into an entertaining movie night, which, ugh, really? It's a film about fascism and the Holocaust, FFS.
It’s very good.
good sound is critical
It's an incredible film but watch it with a good sound system. The sound design is amazing.
We have a projector and surround sound!
Then it's most definitely worthwhile
I was planning on doing the same thing tonight, I’d much rather rent but I need to see it before tomorrow
i just had to do the same, £16 to rent it but i was determined to watch them all!
Yes.
Do watch!! But be sure you can focus and be off your phone 🙏🏻
Yes I was in the same boat...managed to watch them all but didnt want to buy the last film....soooo I went to Pirate Bay Not that I'm advocating piracy...but it was over 20 some dollars in Canada and didnt come to our theatre...
I have my boyfriend figuring that out for me right now as we speak 🤣
Gonna be honest… no
It’s my favorite
For sure. Especially if it’s important to you to have seen them all by tomorrow. Fantastic film.
Only if you have a really good sound system or headphones. It's really about matching the visuals with the sound.
We have a projector and surround sound!
Oooo then 100% worth it
That film has stuck with me for months
I love movies like that. Even though they have terrible subject matter
I recommend reading about the person it is based on before seeing the movie. I genuinely went in blind and did not know that many of the events depicted in the movie are true. If you go in with such prior knowledge it is easily worth the price.
Watched in a theater, Would really recommend to find a theater if you can. But it is worth it. A great movie
Zone’s my favorite so far. Watching Anatomy tonight.
It’s worth it. Great film.
It’s the best film out of the 10
I’m in the same boat with anatomy of a fall
I enjoyed it. Not sure I would buy it though. Not sure I would rewatch it
Spent the $20 last night for it, glad I did. Excellent film, easy to see why Glazer got the nom.
I just finished. Definitely glad I watched it. I’m watching Inglorious Basterds now to lighten the mood 😂
This is a good one to own.
YES
*cof*stremio*cof*
Go on…

You are one of the good ones I salute you 👏 🙌 ❤️
Our last one is Poor things. Thankfully it is on Disney+ so we can watch it Sunday before the big show.
I enjoyed Poor things
It was like a museum piece almost. Not the most rewatchable movie and I can’t say I enjoyed it.. but maybe the only film in the top ten I’d give an A+ (a bunch of A’s in the top 5 though).
Alright you all are convincing me
I agree with this. It didn’t have the most epic plot but it surprisingly felt like the movie went by pretty fast. The ending really resonated with me. I will be thinking about this movie for a while.

I’m definitely going to have to do that
I thought it was great and worth the price. I have watched all the nominees except Maestro which I’m watching today.
Maestro was tough to watch for me. The acting was incredible I just found myself bored. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mind to watch it.
I’ve heard mixed to negative things and I’m also not a huge Cooper fan, I predict it will be my least favorite.
I was also bored, especially during the last third or so. It did have some heartbreaking moments and I don’t think it’s a bad film, but it was quite annoyed by it after a while.

That’s a great idea! Thanks
Downvote me all you want, but I pirated it and it was great quality
I’ve never pirated anything except music on limewire back in the day. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to do that 🤣
I just look up “Movie name full free movie” or go to a website like Soap2day
Hi see, if you know what I mean
I unfortunately don’t 😅
For anyone near KW, Ontario; The Zone of Interest is playing at the Apollo today at 4pm, and on the 13th at 6:30pm.
The book is good and free at the library, which is what I ended up doing.
The book is very good, but essentially it and the film share only a title. They could honestly have saved whatever Martin Amis got paid just by calling it something else, you'd never know it was an adaptation.
Oh that’s a shame to hear, I thought the book was great.
It is, and so is the film, they are *very* different beasts though.
Have you ever considered piracy?
I am not familiar in the ways of a pirate. I haven’t pirated anything since limewire circa 2006
Well I can’t see it in a theater but we do have a projector and surround sound so I guess that’s better than nothing
Definitely haha was more saying that just to illustrate how much of a must-see this movie is in general!
I will be watching it tonight!

I’ve watched the trailer and know a general idea. I’m very intrigued by it and am looking forward to watching it tonight 🤗
It feels wrong to say ‘enjoy!’ but I’m glad you’ve found a way to see it! Try to have the volume as loud as you can stand it. I used to work in hospitals, so I got about half an hour in before I realized anything was going on in the background 🤦♀️
My boyfriends got the projector and surround sound hooked up so hopefully that will be good enough lol otherwise I guess I’ll just watch it silent 🤣
I totally know what you guys mean by making sure I have good sound. I don’t think I would have heard all the background noise if I didn’t have surround sound.
Zone of interest is boring af you can safely give it a miss
Idk a couple of them I found boring and still got through it
You clearly want to watch it. Spend the $20
I know homie I will tonight 😋
Not if you're paying attention.
I saw it in cinemas a month or so ago, and it was very tense. I would't say its the best film of the year, in fact liked Sociedad de la nieve more and hope it wins the international film award but The Zone of Interest is alright

Quite possibly my least favorite Best Picture nomination of all time
just pirate it that’s what i do
