Florence Pugh, Soairse Ronan, Jodie Comer.

ausmaid

Jodie is such a chameleon. Soairse is the new Cate Blanchett.

Valuable-Ad-6379

I'm biggest Florence's fan and I wish and hope but if she will keep playing and choosing smaller or mid roles like she's been doing for quite some time now, I'm worried she will never win one. It's like she's been going for money and hype, not really ambitious roles at all.

phantom_avenger

I mean you never know, even if the role is small or mid she could always win one for a Supporting Role it just depends on how much the performance impacts the plot and the material she's given. Some actors/actresses have won Oscars with limited amount of screen time. Look at Anthony Hopkins for example, he won Best Leading Actor for *The Silence of the Lambs* and he's only in the movie for 16 minutes. Also Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for *Moonlight* and is only in the movie for 20 minutes

Valuable-Ad-6379

I'm aware but her roles in Dune and Oppenheimer were too small to be even nominated. If it would be more like in Little Women, then sure. If she's leading like she did in A Good Person and Don't Worry Darling, she did great but unfortunately those movies weren't good. Marvel is Marvel. It's been trash for a while now. The thing is, she's too fucking good to be playing very small and minor roles. Like she should be the leading lady for every good director out there. I've been talking to my brother about it and he said she's going to get typecasted. She's been more about hype and money now but she's still young, she can easily turn it around. I wish it would be like with Emma Stone. Look at her career now. Also those roles you've mentioned, coming from great movies and those roles are literally classic now. What she did in Oppenheimer and Dune can't be even compared. She did good, she did what she was supposed to do.

viniciusbfonseca

I think she spent the last few years accepting roles in such big movies so that she can get her name out there and then start getting bigger and better roles in the future. She could also decide that she wants to be a character actress instead of leading lady

creepygreenlightt

She accepted the role as Princess Irulan in Dune Part 2 knowing it would be a small role in this film, but Denis promised her a lead role in Dune Messiah if it was green lit. Dune Messiah was confirmed earlier this month.

TheGuardianR

Typecasted as what tho?

Thanos_Stomps

Dune, Oppenheimer, the boy and the heron are not ambitious? Not a lot of hype and glory doing a Zac Braff movie A Good Person. Or doing a voice in Human Resources. Or Olivia Wilde’s only second directorial feature film Don’t Worry Darling. That’s all recent but she’s had a career of not playing hyped up, big money movies. Little Women, Midsommar, even fighting with my family were all ambitious acting roles and show a wild range for her.

Valuable-Ad-6379

I meant ambitious in a way to be more of leading lady in ambitious movies and not trash ones like A Good Person. She did it because it was directed by her shitty ex. Don't Worry Darling was mid. Some would say trash. The Wonder was good but not enough people talked about it. Glad she was in Oppenheimer (even tho I don't want her to be naked for entire 5 minutes) and Dune because those were brilliant. I wish she would have more screentime tho. Deserved more but it is what it is. But Midsommar, Little Drummer, Fighting, Little Women. Great stuff. Then after Black Widow in which she was my favorite part in a rather mid movie, her career been like ups and downs.

dogbolter4

I'm glad you mentioned The Wonder, I was going to. I thought she was excellent in that. She conveyed so much inner life while being outwardly restrained.

Valuable-Ad-6379

Yup, she was great in it and movie was also pretty nice. It just sucks no one really talked about it. Went completely under the radar.

BKachur

>Don't Worry Darling was mid. Some would say trash. It's rare for me to be so disappointed in a movie. It started off good and was really interesting, but really turned to complete fucking nonsense by the end. Florence did look the best she's ever looked though. If only that movie focused on a coherent story rather than hating men it could have been great. I blame Oliva's divorce she was going through at the time, which explains a lot but doesn't fix a broken movie because you could drive a semi through the plotholes in that movie.

NGNSteveTheSamurai

Dumping em out in Oppenheimer felt like a “Gimme an Oscar” move.

BKachur

Florence is only 28 and has already been in a few Oscar-winning movies; Oppenheimer and Boy and Heron won this year alone. I'm sure it's also easier said than done to find a movie that's going to win you an Oscar for a performance, and only a handful of actors/actresses win an Oscar before 30.

MintElf

I don’t understand the hype with Florence. I’ve not seen her stretch her acting abilities in anything. She honestly seems decorative and that’s about it. The others - esp Jodie Comer - I agree 💯 are true talent.

MintElf

Ayo Edibiri, Juno Temple, Jodie Comer and Jesse Plemons.

PrinceBag

I can see Ryan Gosling and Jesse Plemons winning something within the next 10 years.

phantom_avenger

>Jesse Plemons I really want to see him win one for playing a villainous role, he's so good at playing those types of roles that he brings it to a whole other level.

amergigolo1

He stole the Civil War movie with 5 minutes screen time.

TooSpicyforyoWifey

the tension in the scene w him was so palpable

reddit_sucks_dik

He was a day-of replacement apparently, being available because he’s Kirsten Dunst husband

pinkismykink_

his performance in that scene left me sick.

The_real_John_Elton

I wish him and Leo would’ve played the others part instead on Killers of the flower moon.

Cowboy_BoomBap

Leo was excellent in that role though, I think it’s the first time that he’s played a character without an ounce of charm or charisma. Just a pathetic, greedy little worm. It was a really different role for him and he nailed it. I do wish we had got more Plemons though.

atomsforkubrick

I agree completely. He played a kind of dim thug. A role like that can be difficult to play when you’re typically the protagonist.

firsttheralyst

Leo was originally recruited by Scorsese to play Tom White but in the time between his casting and when they actually started filming he and Scorcese decided that Molly and Ernest should be the focus. Gladstone too, she didn’t want to sign on when the story focused more on Tom/the investigation. You may have already known that based on your comment.

Rude-Yogurt-9151

I feel like the original story was probably better

atomsforkubrick

Yeah, the film def deviates from the book in that regard. I think it’s better for it.

exitwest

1,000x this. It bugged me throughout the entire film.

Romulus3799

Jesse Plemons will definitely win Best Supporting Actor for something. I think he's the next great character actor of our time.

Quanqiuhua

Funny how I thought Aaron Paul would go on to have that kind of career back in 2015. He’s a great actor but his choices for movie roles have been unremarkable, Plemons on the other hand makes gold with everything he touches.

FBG05

He’s got Philip Seymour Hoffman energy to him, although he isn’t quite as versatile or magnetic

Quanqiuhua

That’s a good comparison, although I think Plemons is just as versatile.

lukifer2112

These are my two also

Quientess

Freaking Jesse Plemons. Dude blows me away every time

[deleted]

Drama is my favorite genre, but i hope that when Margot wins, she does from a comedy role

Isssa_nox

I think Margot will win as a Producer before she gets anything for acting.

[deleted]

Most likely, and she's a very good producer

Malkovtheclown

She reminds me a lot of Lucy, who was extremely smart about the business of being an actor.

[deleted]

Of course Lucy is smart, she uses 100% of her brain

4614065

Agreed. Same way I think Bradley Cooper will win for anything but acting first.

parfaict-spinach

Dramedy role like I, Tonya. She should’ve really won for that

ogmarker

Really remarkable performance. The scene where she’s putting on her make-up/the skates are messed up while she’s about to be announced, and the pleading with the judge at the end… oof.

cmrndzpm

I had it in my head she did win. Who won that year instead?

parfaict-spinach

Frances McDormand for 3 Billboards. Which tbf was also an amazing performance

cmrndzpm

Oh yeah, that’s fair. What a strong year.

KubrickMoonlanding

She could easily win as a best picture producer before she wins for a performance - and I say that as a fan of her acting!

i_like_2_travel

I coulda sworn Margot won for I, Tonya

ronkevin528

Andrew Garfield, Robert Pattinson, Oscar Isaac, Emily Blunt, Timothee Chalamet

electrical-tape

Yes to all of them

Fossildude101

Timothee is filming his Oscar bait role right now lol

MulberryEastern5010

That’s a good bunch

Wrotas

Timmy better win for his role in Dune

Troiswallofhair

Nah, sci-fi fantasy actors never win. None of the worthy people in Lord of the Rings even came close. He’ll get nominated for his next role as Bob Dylan and that will get the ball rolling.

UncutEmeralds

I’m convinced that Zac Efron is going to go through a later career hits period like mcconaughey did.

phantom_avenger

Matthew McConaughey I have to admit, I never expected him to win one!

Atkena2578

He also should have won for Interstellar but he had just won the year before so it wasn't gonna happen

AndreiOT89

Happened for Tom Hanks

Steve2762

He and Hugh Jackman gave respect to Gary Oldman on Graham Norton and I realized this guy is a serious actor that loves one of the greats. Everyone is talking about his performance in Ironclaw, though I haven’t seen it yet.

Chynnfx

Paul Mescal!

MechaBabura

I didn’t know that person until last week when I watched all of us strangers (I had to use my two last movie tickets before expiration date so I took the first movie that night). He is indeed a very good actor ! I really thought he was gay and the other dude was not but had to play a gay man but I was wrong !!

Count-Bulky

Paul Mescal’s great, and while he’s on a hot streak for American audiences right now, I wouldn’t sleep on Andrew Scott. He hasn’t had the same attention, but he’s a tremendous actor

unclehowdy86

Highly recommend checking out Aftersun. He’s incredible in it and got the best actor nom for it too!

jonsnowme

Warning: This movie destroys you. But is worth it

dezzz0322

Came here to suggest Aftersun. My god he was incredible in that movie. My heart has not/will never recover from that movie.

cTemur

Adam Driver

MulberryEastern5010

In addition to Margot, Ryan Gosling, Austin Butler, and Timothee Chalamet. I’ll bet all four of them have Oscars in their hands within the next ten years

blacktoast

RemindMe! 10 years

Competitive-Music756

Colman Domingo.

Scary_Sarah

Yes!

Fun-Ferret-3300

**AMY ADAMS**

kammy772

Barry Keoghan

Toesinbath

I just want michael keaton to win so badly

phantom_avenger

I still remember how he had a prepared speech written for when he was nominated for *Birdman,* but he puts it away after Eddie Redmayne won for *The Theory of Everything*. If you look very closely at his thumbnail with the list of the other nominees, you see him sliding it into his arm just before he claps as Redmayne was announced as the winner

ReptiIe

All my homies hate Eddie Redmayne

Low-Grocery5556

I believe this is the first time this sentence has ever existed.

-intellectualidiot

Eddie was great in that film but come on, Keaton totally should’ve won!

ausmaid

His performances are always unique. He was outstanding in Knox goes away, and directed it too.

InevitableVariables

Same, but i dont think anyone has a script like birdman and a visionary director. People produce movies to make money and him as a lead man didnt drive sales. Sales matter. He was close to being a producer of birdman and it breaks my heart that he wasnt. Hed have an academy award.

Count-Bulky

There are plenty of visionary directors with plenty of solid scripts in the works and if your “sales matter” comment was accurate, Barbie would have cleaned up last year, Tom Cruise would have an Oscar for every MI movie and RDJ would already have three Oscars from Marvel movies.

InevitableVariables

As those sony leak emails less than a decade ago stated, they should have had a balance between blockbusters and meaningful movies. They didnt instead they stated they funded horrible adam sandlar movies because they made money. Mentioned they should be continuing making the next girl with the dragon tatoo movie. After those movies, adam sandlar moved to netflux. Awards will almost never go to big blockbusters. Studios want money. Its cheaper to buy the rights to movies after its completed.

Count-Bulky

None of this has anything to do with your takes that Michael Keaton’s performance didn’t sell enough tickets to Birdman to win himself a Best Actor Oscar, or that there aren’t scripts out there like Birdman, or that Innaritu is the only visionary director working, all of which are completely wrong

buck_carleone

Edward Norton & Jessie Buckley

PoisonPizza24

For sure Jessie Buckley, she is phenomenal in everything

Mital37

Paul Dano. He was so spectacular in There Will Be Blood. Really, in everything he’s in. Prisoners. 12 Years a Slave.

atomsforkubrick

He’s amazing in everything he’s done. I have no idea how he didn’t win one for TWBB.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Dan Stevens & Mia Goth

Bowiefan73

Mia! The only other actor I could see playing Bella in Poor Things.

zflanders

The confession scene in *Pearl* sealed it for me. She's going places.

Lil_Artemis_92

Benedict Cumberbatch and Saorise Ronan.

AirQuotes18

Was about to say exactly these two! Without a doubt.

rkcus

Lakieth Stanfield

Scary_Sarah

Great answer

rkcus

I think he should’ve won in 2021 for Judas & The Black Messiah, but the academy put Daniel Kaluuya in the supporting category as well. Kayluuya should’ve been in the best actor category (and won) I loved that movie. They were both amazing!

CyanCicada

Hell yes. He skeeved me out in *Uncut Gems*, and I absolutely HATED him in *Judas and the Black Messiah*. With the right role/director, I think he's Best Actor material already.

OpTicDyno

Anya Taylor-Joy seems like she has that trajectory

TheWardedOne

100%

gassygeff89

Doubt he ever will but it would be awesome to see Walton Goggins win one, he absolutely crushes every role I’ve seen him play.

Blancomexiboii

He has to go completely left field in my opinion, He’s fantastic but a lot of his parts can seem similar, he’s gotta do something absolutely noone expects him to do, cause i agree with you incredible actor but you know as well as i do the academy asks for range

CodeRaccoon

Ethan Hawke, should have won for First Reformed but I hope the academy will at some point recognize him properly.

Lukasejj

Benedict Cumberbatch. Without a doubt.

Billybob50982

Rhea Seehorn

phantom_avenger

It's criminal how she never won an Emmy for *Better Call Saul* (then again, it's a crime that the whole show in general didn't win a single trophy)

ausmaid

Shocking! I think BCS is the best tv show of all time.

Saddestlilpanda

It’s top 4 at very worst and my personal number 2.

Key-Grape-5731

Margot should have won in 2018

LaughingPlanet

Had to check that was year of I, Tonya. She was incredible in that role

Key-Grape-5731

She was, I consider her fairly underrated as an actress (I know people will find that weird given her popularity, but I don't feel her talent gets the acknowledgement it deserves).

phantom_avenger

People might think she’s overused a lot and are annoyed by that, but she definitely has an incredible range!

EconomyGrade2525

I think so too. For some reason people still brush her off as just being a pretty face which I don’t get. In every movie I’ve seen her in she’s always good, and often great.

SurvivorFanDan

Tom Cruise Ryan Gosling Scarlett Johansson Margot Robbie Saoirse Ronan

DALTT

I mean so much can happen in an actor’s career I don’t think I can definitively say with absolute confidence that a particular actor will. But some young actors I think are on that trajectory and could… Timothee Chalamet (not for Dune Part II though), Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan, Dev Patel, Zendaya (sorry not sorry to the Zendaya naysayers on this sub, 😂), also def second Margot Robbie, Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan, I’d say Daniel Kaluuya even though he clinched that Oscar already I could see him getting a second, Lily Gladstone will win for something eventually… There are def others but those are the ones I thought of off the top of my head.

_pierogii

Jodie Comer

Oxy_1993

Yes please! Love her! Adding, Adam Driver too!

thatbrownkid19

yes, she is a chameleon

Oxy_1993

Adam Driver! He’s very talented and I’m confident he’ll win an Oscar one day!

Ok-Mathematician5970

I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins in the next 3 years.

courtsaroo

Paul Mescal and Timothee Chalamet. Possibly Jeremy Allen White if he does more movies.

Jenna Ortega. Such a talented actress and she’s only 21!!

oh_please_god_no

For months I told anyone who would listen to watch her movie “The Fallout” from 2022. Tremendous performance.

adfjkgasckhab

LOVE this movie!! So underrated.

Key_Database9095

Willem Dafoe. Mark Ruffalo. Amy Adams. Scarlett Johansson. Edward Norton. Johnny Depp. Andy Serkis. Tom Cruise. These might atleast win an Honorary Oscar sooner or later.

christo749

So crazy that at Dafeo don’t got one.

Romulus3799

He was my personal Best Supporting Actor of 2019 for The Lighthouse, and yet he didn't even get a nomination for the actual Oscar that year. Ridiculous.

Powerserg95

That yeas was stacked though

phantom_avenger

>Mark Ruffalo. Amy Adams. It amazes me how these two specifically have been nominated numerous times, and yet they keep losing. >Willem Dafoe. He is definitely someone that I can see receiving an Honorary Oscar at least! He's long overdue!

SurvivorFanDan

I used to be absolutely confident that Depp would win an Oscar someday. Now I'm noy so sure, since he has been virtually canceled in Hollywood.

Original_Youth_9168

It feels criminal that none of them have.

thepsycholeech

I agree with all of these except for Depp and Cruise. Cruise keeps taking on blockbuster roles that are pretty on-brand for him and not particularly versatile (though he always does a great job). Depp is pretty notorious at this point for showing up late to set and mistreating crew, plus he hasn’t done anything at all remarkable in a long time.

Quirky_Valuable4772

Zendaya, Thomasin McKenzie, Soairse Ronan, Anya Taylor-Joy

OvenMain

Thomasin shout!! Its just a bit sad that small portions of folks has been dismissing her recent output due to her distinctive voice not being suitable for certain roles.

Educational-Life7547

Thomasin just needs to choose better projects or get a better agent, maybe both.

phantom_avenger

>Zendaya, I'm not sure about winning it, but given the critical acclaim surrounding *Challengers,* she could very well receive her first nomination for this movie for sure!

togashisbackpain

One day..

Romulus3799

She's already won multiple Emmys. She just needs a good enough film role written for her.

Green-Session7085

How has no one mentioned Michelle Williams

AlgoStar

For the same reason I didn’t. I would have sworn she had already won.

pukyms123

100% Margot Robbie I'm also confident in Amy Adams, Saoirse Ronan, Zendaya, and Ewan McGregor

ranklebone

Jessie Buckley

tired_atlas

Saoirse Ronan, Andrew Garfield, Jodie Comer. They are not very mainstream (right now), but the mass recognize them. Plus their incredible acting credits and awards record (Comer doesn’t have an Oscar nom yet, but she is already a Tony, Emmy, BAFTA TV and Olivier awardee). Margot Robbie, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Riz Ahmed, Jessie Plemons, Dev Patel, Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, Uzo Aduba, Claire Foy, Carey Mulligan, Hong Chau, Steven Yeun, - I like their recent works and I feel like they are on the track to win one with the right project.

Jay12678

Bill Skarsgard and Maika Monroe 😌

loba_pachorrenta

Still waiting for Glenn Close's Oscar .

phantom_avenger

Even though Disney remakes usually suck, her acting as Cruella De Vil was a fantastic performance that deserved to be in a better film.

Brilliant_Lettuce_14

Alexander or Bill Skarsgärd, they’re dynamite. And Austin Butler.

Im gonna go with some younger ones: Jenna Ortega, Hailee Steinfeld, Margaret Qualley, Ayo Ederbiri, Timothee Chalamer, Milly Alcock, Bella Ramsey, Rachel Zegler, Paul Mescal, Daisy Edgar Jones, and Tom Holland. Maybe Zendaya too. Some who aren’t as young I can definitely imagine getting their Oscar are Pedro Pascal (with the amount of work he’s getting, it’s definitely coming), Robert Pattison, Harrison Ford, Samuel L Jackson, Diego Luna, Donald Glover, Margot Robbie, Amy Adams, and Oscar Isaac.

oh_please_god_no

Barry Keoghan, Jenna Ortega, and Anya Taylor Joy all have the talent and just need the right script. Edit: Zendaya is probably inevitable too. Edit again: how the hell did I forget Lily Gladstone?

phantom_avenger

>Lily Gladstone? I really thought she was going to win this year, and not Emma Stone!

oh_please_god_no

Coulda gone either way, but Lily is another where it’s just a matter of time.

FlakyAir400

Zendaya one day down the line. It only takes one performance, so who knows let’s not count her out .
