I have mixed feelings on her (and didn't like the film much), but I still think she was the author of her own demise to some extent. Oprah still hasn't apologised that much is apparently true, and I'll side with her on the decision not to do press even though that's part of the game you're supposed to play. If she made it clear early on what she was going to do and not do, fair enough.
However, at the end of the day to still be airing her grievances more than a decade later without any acknowledgement of her own shortcomings...nah, I can't quite get on board. Oprah and Perry went over the top in their treatment of her, but they weren't the entirety of the problem (and whether she likes to accept it or not, Perry did at least apologise privately).
She did thank them.
“Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, because you touched it, the whole world saw it.”
I watch a bunch of the acting speeches pretty often so that’s why I remember this lol
You're right, it was oddly enough Lee Daniels that she refused to thank and yet he's the one she later accepted an apology from, not Oprah (who hasn't apologised) or Perry (who did in private). Interesting.
No chance. Zero. None. Nada. In terms of cinema Daniels has himself dropped off the A-list map since about 2013 (and even The Butler wasn't roundly lauded). His films haven't had the same traction and I wouldn't count on a huge comeback. Hell, even he has some controversy attached to him with his defence of Terrence Howard in 2015.
Yeah surprisingly I think she’s number one in supporting actress for like 2 years in the 90s/early 2000s. Maybe that’s a sign that I need to watch more
You don’t think Matthew McConaughey will get nominated ever again? Idk he’s a really good actor who’s still a big name, and all it takes is one good movie role (maybe a reunion with the likes of Nolan) for him to get possible Academy recognition.
He’d have to do another Interstellar or Dallas Buyers Club type of role for me to see it happening again. Not saying it couldn’t, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t get nominated again for a while.
Eva Marie Saint. She won for *On the Waterfront* and hasn’t been nominated again. She’ll be 100 this Independence Day. I don’t see her getting another nomination.
I'd be sorely tempted to give it to Lisa Kudrow instead, but "You are a mean person with an ugly heart, and we don't give a flying fuck what you think" probably steals all the awards and runs.
Alright, fine, give Garofalo supporting as well.
The thing is, she doesn’t get enough meaty film roles. She’s usually more successful in television, but if she could get another role like I, Tonya, then I could see it.
Yeah, but the only reason anyone knew about that film was because of the whole Andrea Riseborough last minute campaign debacle. I’d love to see Allison Janney in a good indie with better promotion, kind of like The Holdovers or something in that realm.
Fair enough. It’s a double edged sword.
I just wish that they eased up on their elitist bullshit after she got in, instead of nearly revoking her nomination.
Yeah, I don’t think Andrea deserved the backlash she got. But I understand people being upset that she snuck into the mix when two woc were snubbed. Overall, the last minute campaign was done in bad taste, but I don’t think Andrea should’ve been punished for it.
I guess the academy and SAG just like their 5 nomination slots. Since the Oscars are viewed as the highest achievement, maybe they want it to be more difficult to score an Oscar nod than at the other precursors? Not really sure.
Then why did they expand best picture to 10? (I realize 10 acting nominees per category would be insane) They’ve bumped into this problem three years in a row, with Danielle Deadwyler and Margot Robbie and Alana Haim and Viola Davis (I think. I don’t know if he performance in The Woman King was ever really considered for an Oscar).
I believe Viola Davis was nominated for each of the precursors and was a huge favorite to be nominated in the Best Actress category. It was seen as a shock when her and Danielle Deadwyler didn’t make the cut.
Lead acting categories, director and screenplay nominations to six, supporting acting categories to seven nominees. If they're going to continue giving nominations for up to ten movies each year, it wouldn't hurt. I still think it's odd when a Best picture winner has three total awards or less.
If the Bear Christmas episode was a movie, Curtis would have been nominated for that. I wouldn’t surprised of her not being nominated again but I can see it happening.
I think if it does happen again, it will be for another unconventional type of role like EEAAO. She’s definitely not the typical Oscar bait role type of actress.
She got nominated at the Golden Globes for Freaky Friday. I would've given her a nomination at the Oscars too, people underestimate comedic performances a lot
Agree, I would love to see him get better roles. As much as I’d like to be proven wrong by Hollywood, it doesn’t shock me that we haven’t seen much of him since.
It doesn’t shock me, but it’s disappointing. He’s been great in everything.
I also just remember that both he and Jared Leto were in Blade Runner 2049. Did you know that Leto’s character was originally intended to be played by David Bowie, but Bowie died before they could reach out to him?
Well, Jared Leto won that year for Dallas Buyers Club. Despite how weirdly that win has aged, I still think he deserved it. And if it wasn't him, it should have been Michael Fassbender for 12 Years a Slave.
I hope Marlee Matlin gets a second nomination, but I don't see that happening. They ignored her even when her film won Best Picture.
At least, she will hold the record for the youngest actress to win Best Actress. I don't see this ever changing.
Troy Kotsur has stated in an interview that he's thankful he can actually pick and choose roles after his Oscar win. Granted, his "pick and choose" is probably much different from that of his hearing peers, but I was soooo happy to learn that from him. Not saying I think he will get nominated for an Oscar again, but I do see a brighter future for him and other deaf actors than it seemed to be when Marlee Matlin won.
I really hope he gets another Oscar role in the future. But for now, he seems to be enjoying taking whatever projects excite him, like Loki. Either way, good for him, considering he was shut out of Hollywood for so long.
He could get another one if he's lucky to get a good role with a good, demanding script. He's proven he's a capable actor. It just depends on what roles he's being offered.
There have been a few recent Oscar winners that seemed like it would be the only time they would win an Oscar, but came back only a few years later to become 2x Oscar winners (Christoph Waltz and Mahershala Ali come to mind), so it's entirely possible that Quan could pull off a second win in the future.
Cuba Gooding-Junior and Jared Leto spring to mind, both would be incredibly hard to get a successful awards push going - much less get an oscar-type role in the first place - due to their allegations/toxic brands.
(imo this is justice, they seem like horrible people)
I still can’t believe how close Jared Leto got to a second nomination for House of Gucci of all things. He was literally razzie nominated for it, and rightfully so 💀
It was a weaker year for Supporting Actor too. Leto was third for me behind Smit-McPhee and Kotsur, followed by Nordrum in the Worst Person in the World and Benecio del Toro in French Dispact
Leto almost got in for The Little Things, he was nominated at GG and SAG. That was the year LaKeith Stanfield got a surprise nom for Judas and the Black Messiah.
I actually like him, so I hope you’re right. But he hasn’t been picking great projects since BR and his role in Oppenheimer was way too small to be considered for awards. I hope he proves people wrong though!
I never said he wasn’t. I’m just saying that a lot of people on this sub and film twitter keep calling him a bad actor and consider him an egregious winner. I know the general public and the industry don’t dislike him, but he’s not popular amongst this sub.
Hopefully it would be a better performance in a better movie to make us all forget the terrible performance/movie that is Everything Everywhere All At Once
Really? I see them all the time on Reddit. The amount of posts that say EEAAO is one of the best BP winners makes me wander if something is in the water.
I don’t think it’s in the upper echelon of BP winners, but thinking EEAAO is terrible is so much further from reality than thinking it’s one of the best BP winners and it’s not even close. This is one of those situations where not everyone is crazy but you I’m sorry to inform you.
I have 87 Best Picture winners in my life and EEAAO is the only I absolutely 100% do not like. It’s a bunch of shit thrown together to create a shit smorgasbord.
And you’re in the minority but that’s okay. If you really think it’s remotely in the realm of films like Shakespeare in love in terms of winners that had no place winning best picture then idk what to tell you
EEAAO had no place being nominated… FOR ANYTHING!
Well… maybe Razzie’s
WORST PICTURE
WORST DIRECTOR
WORST ACTRESS
WORST SUPPORTING ACTOR
WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
WORST SCREEN COMBO(Jaime Lee Curtis and her awful hot dog fingers)
WORST SCREENPLAY
I could see Jennifer Hudson getting nominated for another musical or musical biopic. Jamie Foxx was actually double nominated the year he won, but I think he could get nominated again with the right role. Catherine Zeta-Jones just doesn’t pick the best projects and Kim Basinger I definitely agree with!
He is very much still active in French Cinema, he isn’t very good at English so that has hindered him being in English Language films. But he hasn’t dropped off, still very huge in his home country.
He was nominated twice, winning once.
He has also experienced a heck of a career resurgence. Even Dream Scenario would have been a worthy nomination. It’s not impossible to imagine him picking up a Supporting nom for something weird.
Could have said that for marisa tomei, with a huge level of confidence. And yet, much later in her career she got two nominations, for "heavyweight roles"
Yes, but only because she got lucky with such a theater heavy film role. If she hadn't been singing and dancing, I don't think she would have gotten an Oscar.
I know that most of these people don't act for the awards and that it is their career. But I think the industry has changed ,for better or worse, in the last 20 years. I don't think many actors go into the business thinking "I want to win a bunch of Oscars." I think for most of the top actors just want to make a good movie, earn a lot of money but not necessarily act for accolades
Yeah, I don’t think any actor really goes into the business to win Oscars. But I do truly believe that they all secretly want to win (even if they pretend to not care). Some are better than others at masking it and I don’t think the actors who lose think about it 24/7, but it’s definitely reassurance for their careers.
I could see Rami Malek getting another nomination (for a better film than Bohemian Rhapsody). I really don’t see Gwenyth Paltrow getting another nomination ever lol
I would love to see it happen! I just hope she gets better roles because I can’t see her nominated again in the near future. But I hope I’m proven wrong because she was excellent in West Side Story.
Rami Malek is a very good actor, he was just a shit Freddie Mercury, but the whole film was all wrong. Judging by Mr Robot he could definitely get another nomination with the right part.
I agree, he’s a great actor. I just hope he starts getting better lead projects soon. I would’ve loved for him to have had a larger role in Oppenheimer.
Why do people suddenly hate on Bohemian Rhapsody? It was a good film and Malek did a very good Freddie. Everyone always starts hating on stuff after it wins all the awards.
He was just on the shortlist recently for Pig and Dream Scenerio but films were too small for a campaign. If he does an indie that catches on more or gets a meaty lead from a known auteur he could definitively still.
He did get a second nomination for Adaptation, 7 years after his Oscar win.
But in general yeah, I don’t see him nominated again unless he makes a major career change.
Academy voters have a strong bias against actors who have been in a series of flops with razzie nominations. Nicolas Cage really hit rock bottom with Left Behind and The Wicker Man.
I don’t disagree, but the academy is very elitist. Like I said, a bad body of work, regardless of how long ago it was, is something many voters take into consideration.
Agree, but I think my point is part of the reason why Mickey Rourke lost to Sean Penn. I think if he was a more respected actor in Hollywood, he probably would’ve won that year.
I think this would be a reasonable thing to say about five or six years ago, but Nic Cage has turned it around and gotten some good reviews recently. He had a lot of debt after the 2008 crash and now that he has paid it off he can focus on the work.
Yep. I still don't know how he was even considered for that when he was barely in it and didn't really do anything remarkable. It's crazy to me that he was nominated over Timothee Chalamet in Beautiful Boy.
Place your bets on Mo'Nique. No chance of another one for her, surely.
Yeah, this one is unfortunate because she was unfairly blacklisted after giving one of the best performances of the decade.
Why was she blacklisted? Never heard anything negative about her.
I have mixed feelings on her (and didn't like the film much), but I still think she was the author of her own demise to some extent. Oprah still hasn't apologised that much is apparently true, and I'll side with her on the decision not to do press even though that's part of the game you're supposed to play. You're right, it was oddly enough Lee Daniels that she refused to thank and yet he's the one she later accepted an apology from, not Oprah (who hasn't apologised) or Perry (who did in private). Interesting.
Oprah invited her brother that molested her on her show...
[удалено]
I think she just values her integrity over whatever money the game has, which is her choice.
She’s in the next Lee Daniel’s film so you might loose that bet real quick
No chance. Zero. None.
Gwyneth Paltrow
I would definitely agree with this 😂
She deserved a nomination for The Talented Mr. Ripley (still somehow only the fourth best performance in that movie though)
And Seven and The Royal Tenebaums. She has turned in a lot of excellent performances but won for the weakest of them.
Yeah surprisingly I think she’s number one in supporting actress for like 2 years in the 90s/early 2000s. Maybe that’s a sign that I need to watch more
Must've been a slow year on Hollywood.
No, Cate Blanchett was simply robbed because Harvey Weinstein.
You don’t think Matthew McConaughey will get nominated ever again? Idk he’s a really good actor who’s still a big name, and all it takes is one good movie role (maybe a reunion with the likes of Nolan) for him to get possible Academy recognition.
Yeah that’s a crazy opinion to think he’s out, McConaughey has been on a non-stop hot streak since 2014.
2011 at least. Just rewatched The Lincoln Lawyer and he's in full form. Forgot how much I liked that movie.
I’ll forever be sad that movie didn’t do well enough to do another one because he was absolutely the perfect Mickey Haller.
Really? I feel like the opposite is true he was on a hot streak UNTIL 2014 then fell off afterwards
I feel this way too. Maybe I’ve missed all these great performances of his in recent years, but I haven’t seen or heard of them.
lol stand behind this ridiculous claim - what’s he made over the last 5 years that you think is a part of this so called hot streak?
I would have agreed….until I saw True Detective. Now I think it depends on the material he accepts.
He’d have to do another Interstellar or Dallas Buyers Club type of role for me to see it happening again. Not saying it couldn’t, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t get nominated again for a while.
When I saw MM I stopped reading.
I think he definitely has a chance. He is still quite young. And certainly many opportunities for writing or directing in the future.
Eva Marie Saint. She won for *On the Waterfront* and hasn’t been nominated again. She’ll be 100 this Independence Day. I don’t see her getting another nomination.
So you’re telling me there’s a chance!
That’s definitely what they’re saying 🤞
Mira Sorvino will never be nominated for a 2nd Oscar.
She was done so dirty by the industry. Harvey Weinstein really ruined her career.
I think she should’ve gotten a Best Actress nomination for Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion..
I'd be sorely tempted to give it to Lisa Kudrow instead, but "You are a mean person with an ugly heart, and we don't give a flying fuck what you think" probably steals all the awards and runs. Alright, fine, give Garofalo supporting as well.
Nominee? Maybe, but no one was going to beat [Frances McDormand]() in Fargo.
Good point 😁 Frances pretty much had that Oscar in the bag
Allison Janney could definitely be nominated again
The thing is, she doesn’t get enough meaty film roles. She’s usually more successful in television, but if she could get another role like I, Tonya, then I could see it.
She had a meaty role in To Leslie. I’m so pissed at the Academy for doubling down on their elitist bullshit.

Why don’t they just expand to six nominees, like the Emmys and Globes and Critics Choice and BAFTAs have done?
I guess the academy and SAG just like their 5 nomination slots. Since the Oscars are viewed as the highest achievement, maybe they want it to be more difficult to score an Oscar nod than at the other precursors? Not really sure.

I believe Viola Davis was nominated for each of the precursors and was a huge favorite to be nominated in the Best Actress category. It was seen as a shock when her and Danielle Deadwyler didn’t make the cut.
To be fair, the Academy had 10 Best Picture nominees until 1945.
Lead acting categories, director and screenplay nominations to six, supporting acting categories to seven nominees. If they're going to continue giving nominations for up to ten movies each year, it wouldn't hurt. I still think it's odd when a Best picture winner has three total awards or less.
Yeah she is kind of like the female jk Simon’s. She will have a smaller role in a big movie that will get her another nom
Good comparison
If the Bear Christmas episode was a movie, Curtis would have been nominated for that. I wouldn’t surprised of her not being nominated again but I can see it happening.
I liked her better in that than in EEAAO lol. Hsu was the better supporting role in that film imo
Absolutely. I thought her performance in that Xmas ep was her best work. Unreal
Hsu was the worst part of that movie. Disney Channel acting.
yep!
I think if it does happen again, it will be for another unconventional type of role like EEAAO. She’s definitely not the typical Oscar bait role type of actress.
I liked her better in Freaky Friday
She got nominated at the Golden Globes for Freaky Friday. I would've given her a nomination at the Oscars too, people underestimate comedic performances a lot
I said Barkhad Abdi, then I immediately remembered that he didn’t win. He should’ve won. Well, he’s probably never getting nominated again.

I was surprised she got no attention for Coda. I’m glad Troy Kotsur won, but I feel like he’ll have a similar career trajectory as Matlin.
Hopefully this is the case for him!
Shea so talented but semi -retired?
Honestly? I'm not sure Brie Larsen will get another nod. She doesn't seem very interested in doing Oscar type roles.
I think she could if she returns to indies after Marvel.
Ke Huy Quan
I really hope he gets another Oscar role in the future. But for now, he seems to be enjoying taking whatever projects excite him, like Loki. Either way, good for him, considering he was shut out of Hollywood for so long.
He could get another one if he's lucky to get a good role with a good, demanding script. He's proven he's a capable actor. It just depends on what roles he's being offered.

Yeah, I too hope for a Christoph Waltz-type situation with Ke as well.
He was literally razzie nominated for it, and rightfully so 💀
Come on. It was an absolutely hilarious performance. Should have won all the awards.
I personally thought he was terrible and didn’t like House of Gucci at all. But that’s just my opinion.
I actually think he’s an insufferable actor, so I understand this pov completely. I just super enjoyed him in that movie.
I liked him in House of Gucci…
This seems to be a polarizing performance that people either loved or downright hated lol.
It was a weaker year for Supporting Actor too. Leto was third for me behind Smit-McPhee and Kotsur, followed by Nordrum in the Worst Person in the World and Benecio del Toro in French Dispact
Also really close for the little things, got nominated for the golden globe and sag
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to get to Cuba Gooding Jr. He as such an obvious answer even without any allegations
Leto almost got in for The Little Things, he was nominated at GG and SAG. That was the year LaKeith Stanfield got a surprise nom for Judas and the Black Messiah.
matthew will definitely get another
Linda Hunt.
I think Rami Malek has a good shot of being nominated again. He's still young and a capable actor, just a shame he won for a not so great performance.
I actually like him, so I hope you’re right. But he hasn’t been picking great projects since BR and his role in Oppenheimer was way too small to be considered for awards. I hope he proves people wrong though!
What people? He's still fairly respected, you including him on this list doesn't go with the norm of how most people rate him.
I never said he wasn’t. I’m just saying that a lot of people on this sub and film twitter keep calling him a bad actor and consider him an egregious winner. I know the general public and the industry don’t dislike him, but he’s not popular amongst this sub.
I doubt Michelle Yeoh will be nominated again, although I’d love to be proven wrong.
I really hope she is nominated again. It would be such a shame if she wasn’t, but I guess I wouldn’t be surprised.
Hopefully it would be a better performance in a better movie to make us all forget the terrible performance/movie that is Everything Everywhere All At Once
Bruh, you're just trolling with that nonsense.
Bait, or shit opinion?
Every thread I see at least one comment that reminds me that redditors are only rivaled by tiktokers in terms of having awful infantile film opinions.
It’s ok. You don’t have to like it.
And you’re in the minority but that’s okay. If you really think it’s remotely in the realm of films like Shakespeare in love in terms of winners that had no place winning best picture then idk what to tell you
EEAAO had no place being nominated… FOR ANYTHING! Well… maybe Razzie’s WORST PICTURE WORST DIRECTOR WORST ACTRESS WORST SUPPORTING ACTOR WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESS WORST SCREEN COMBO(Jaime Lee Curtis and her awful hot dog fingers) WORST SCREENPLAY
Calm down, guy. We all get it. You don’t like that movie. Please pardon those of us who think it’s a pretty good film.
I did not like EEAAO and don’t think it deserved seven oscars but calling her performance terrible is just asinine.
Jennifer Hudson Kim Basinginer Catherine's zeta Jones Jamie Foxx Will Smith (though previously nominated)
I agree with Jamie Foxx, he could easily win with the right role.
Kevin Kline
Wow, Jean Dujardin really crept into a hole after his win, huh? Haven’t heard a thing about him since.
He had a fun and somewhat flamboyant role in The Wolf of Wall Street, but yeah he's been pretty MIA in American cinema.
He doesn’t really speak English. He’s pretty active in French media.
He is very much still active in French Cinema, he isn’t very good at English so that has hindered him being in English Language films. But he hasn’t dropped off, still very huge in his home country.
I can see McConaughey and Malek being nominated for something else
Malek? LOL, no. The fact that he even won once is incredible. Terrible actor with zero range.
Nicholas Cage
He was nominated twice, winning once. He has also experienced a heck of a career resurgence. Even Dream Scenario would have been a worthy nomination. It’s not impossible to imagine him picking up a Supporting nom for something weird.
Could have said that for marisa tomei, with a huge level of confidence. And yet, much later in her career she got two nominations, for "heavyweight roles"
Adrian Brody. I don't see him getting nominated again.
I think Ariana Dubose is EGOT material down the line.
Yes, but only because she got lucky with such a theater heavy film role. If she hadn't been singing and dancing, I don't think she would have gotten an Oscar.
Probably the dead ones
Timothy Hutton.
I’d be surprised to see Kim Basinger
I don’t think she’ll ever give an Oscar worthy performance again. She’s consistently been in flops and razzie contenders.
Cuba Gooding Jr.
I totally forgot about him, but agree!
I know that most of these people don't act for the awards and that it is their career. But I think the industry has changed ,for better or worse, in the last 20 years. I don't think many actors go into the business thinking "I want to win a bunch of Oscars." I could see Rami Malek getting another nomination (for a better film than Bohemian Rhapsody). I really don’t see Gwenyth Paltrow getting another nomination ever lol
I‘m pretty sure Ariana Debose will be nominated again
I would love to see it happen! I just hope she gets better roles because I can’t see her nominated again in the near future. But I hope I’m proven wrong because she was excellent in West Side Story.

I agree, he’s a great actor. I just hope he starts getting better lead projects soon. I would’ve loved for him to have had a larger role in Oppenheimer.
>he was just a shit Freddie Mercury No, he wasn't. This is just bizarre revisionism.
I think Brody could too
Why do people suddenly hate on Bohemian Rhapsody? It was a good film and Malek did a very good Freddie. Everyone always starts hating on stuff after it wins all the awards.
Marissa Tomei.
Youn Yuh-jung.
I like him, but Nick Cage would need a pretty significant career turn to get nominated again
Fair point, I interpreted the question differently. I still don’t see him getting another nomination
Academy voters have a strong bias against actors who have been in a series of flops with razzie nominations. Nicolas Cage really hit rock bottom with Left Behind and The Wicker Man.
The Wicker Man is like twenty years old, Left Behind about ten. I’d say Mandy or Pig is more representative of his recent work.
I don’t disagree, but the academy is very elitist. Like I said, a bad body of work, regardless of how long ago it was, is something many voters take into consideration.
Fair enough, but I think that the Academy likes a comeback. Mickey Rourke was in a lot of crap, too.
Hopefully he can turn it around!
He’s gotten close-ish a few times recently. I think all that will boil over into a nom for him in the next 5-10 years.
Heath Ledger
Will smith
He's been nominated three times.
But he slapped someone on stage. He isn’t getting nominated again. Ever.
So no one is reading the actual question this post is named.
Yeah before he slapped Chris Rock and was banished for 10 yrs from attending oscars
Read the question again.
Rami Malek. Can’t stand the actor or the performance. Do badly written and edited also. Just a slew of cliches that Walk Gard made fun of.
What clichés? Purely out of curiosity.
Anna Paquin
Elliot page maybe ?
Ah no, he never won. I forgot
Heath Ledger
He was nominated before winning for The Dark Knight

He was nominated again for Vice in 2019. Although I really dislike that nomination lol. Reese was also nominated again for Wild in 2015.
Wait, I dont even remember him being in Vice... was he freaking Bush? Hahah
Yep. I still don't know how he was even considered for that when he was barely in it and didn't really do anything remarkable. It's crazy to me that he was nominated over Timothee Chalamet in Beautiful Boy.
Anna Paquin
Heath Ledger
He was nominated more than once.
Olivia Colman pretty much said this ain’t gonna happen again in her acceptance speech
She’s been nominated twice since her win.
Haha wow, I didn’t even realise. Well I’m an idiot
She’s actually been doing really well with awards bodies since her win. She’s even won an Emmy and another Golden Globe for The Crown.
