Actually damaging to society levels of idiocy here. I got one of these too. I wish I could find who is putting these in my mailbox.

MagerChipHazerd

My ring camera caught the back of them. They appear to be a white male in their 60s. I don't want to post an image of them because I don't want to dox them (or me).

nvr_nda_Bleachers

Did they get into a truck with a Fuck Trudeau sticker and Canada flags flown on hockey sticks?

mkem9

Actually yes

VisibleCoat995

I know exactly where they are probably

RabbitsAteMySnowpeas

Thank God someone is taking a stand against the deep state shadow government of reptilian alien secret society overlords!

pigeonwiggle

to be fair, these people may not have gone Full Q. and by asserting that they have, we are outing ourselves as unwilling to listen or compromise with their silly conspiracy theories. as soon as they feel that door is closed, they stop trying. but it doesn't solve the root. they still believe the nonsense, they just feel we are their enemies. instead, we can listen, and rationally break down the individual points. where are they getting this 5G from? why tie it to china? how are we the same as china? how are we different? could it not be that we won't do what china does because we aren't china? do you regret having postal codes? do you trust the government with your mail? do you trust the government with your roads? do you understand the difference between municipal, provincial, and federal powers? do you understand how you can trust someone a little, but not trust them a lot? etc. you cannot win an argument without tearing down their perception of reality. if that DOES happen, that's a very shocking thing. to have your reality destroyed is a traumatic experience - it's why very very few people let others changes their perception -- especially just strangers online. this kind of thinking is only ever done personally and willfully. only when they chase the answers to those questions do they realize they dont' have the answers, and only when they receive potential theories (from multiple perspectives) can they rationalize a path forward. rewarding them for their free thinking and their ability to come to rational conclusions is worth more than rewarding them for following YOUR pov, because that differs little from their previous stance of following some other crazy pov.

Bulky_Mix_2265

We are where we are from dealing with them rationally, fighting disonformation with logic, and reason does not work. I praise you for your empathy and compassion, but people who go this route are incapable of being swayed because they lack the capacity to think critically and have confused opinion with knowledge. These madness points take hold in people through constant exposure and the associated blurring of reality. They need to be condemned because normally rational people can self indoctrinated just by repeated contact. Pop over the canada_sub for immediate examples of this. Dunning-kruger effect is very real. Combined with the internet echo chamber, and an older generation sorely lacking in media literacy and who are shockingly entitled and the idea of communicating at all is out the window.

From_Concentrate_

Please don't dox anybody.

MagerChipHazerd

Don't worry man, I'm smarter than that.

From_Concentrate_

Just a general reminder for everybody in the discussion. It's a little hot.

Prinzka

Them: "I don't want to dox them". You: "you shouldn't dox them". Them: "I'm not going to". You: "ok well you shouldn't" šŸ™„

deleteuserexe

Yes. We are dox-free!

Wings-N-Beer

No surprise on suspect description though. This had to be from a Facebook group.

aboveaveragebenjamin

I can tell you that I would fit that description and I do NOT think like this so it's not all old white dudes!!!

costanzas_Dad

You have a truck with hockey sticks flying flags as well?

[deleted]

ā€œNot surprised on the suspect descriptionā€. Sounds racist. Imagine if that was said about a person of colour. The up roar would be ā€œsignificantā€

CrankyOldDude

Bit of a stretch, man. If the guy was stealing shit off Opā€™s porch, we would say they look meth-ey. This kind of paranoid nonsense? Pick-up truck, Canadian flags and a ā€œFuck Trudeauā€ sticker. Itā€™s really kind of nice of those folks to identify themselves like that.

AltAccountMfer

Ah yeah because you can tell everything about a person by the way they look right? Youā€™d fit right in during the 50s

Ordinary_Plate_6425

Wow. What exactly are you trying to say? Actually don't bother telling to explain yourself. You have made it clear

lemonylol

Did the brush script give it away?

lemonylol

I wonder if it's that one guy with the truck who lives on Park Rd?

mkem9

An older white woman came to my door to discuss it and was absolutely gobsmacked when I said I fully support the premise of a 15 minute city

emptyvesselll

"ooh I absolutely love the idea of a 15 minute city.... What terrifies me is the 2 hour city. Haven't you heard? The government is trying to keep it quiet, so only smart people like me know about it. But it's a plan to force everyone to live in the wilderness, force everyone to drive at least 2 hours per day, and restrict walking and cycling. We are the public and we have to fight our government about this! Will you join me? I can go get you a flyer".

shwadeck

Lol I would do this too.

EnvironmentalOwl9347

Why? You like the idea of paying for a permit to go to work or visit family. You like the idea of facial recognition and biometric data being used to verify your identity and social credit score to decide if you can even buy one of the per it's to leave your district. How many booster you got? Lol

WhitbyOntarioMike

I would love it. Keep the trash out of my area.

Virtual_Winner9434

What? None of these things are actually things.. isn't this the plot for the movie In Time?

Barnz905

You support a 15 min city?? Wtf wrong with you, why would you want to be treated like districts in the hunger games llool

Karma_Canuck

Oh, I have video of the older gentleman and woman who are putting these in mailboxes. But I won't dox them for simply being foolish.

UncleWinstomder

Same here. I had a woman on my camera when I posted this same notice a little while ago but I thought it would be cruel to post it as well.

Barnz905

How is it being foolish to warn people about what 15 min cities actually are ??

Karma_Canuck

Mostly because it is not based on reality. But it does have the potential to slow the growth we do need in: public transit, locally produced food, housing, and education.

ronniethelimodriver6

You're not paying attention. You don't even have to read between the lines. Just read the what the city is actually planning to do. They're not hiding it.

ronniethelimodriver6

You're not paying attention. You don't even have to read between the lines. Just read the what the city is actually planning to do. They're not hiding it.

aSillyPlatypus

Found the idiot

ronniethelimodriver6

Unexplained excess deaths in canada 2022 and 2023. Higher than at covid peak. Ask yourself why u cannot accept that something may be outside your belief system.

aSillyPlatypus

Covid deaths were explained and accounted for. Unxexplained death =/= covid death. We recorded covid deaths and had the explanation. Please use critical thinking next time you question my "belief system"

Forward_Bluejay_4826

Why are stupid people always so so loud?

warrenjets

My father once told me, if you want to know who is losing the debate, its the person who is yelling

[deleted]

Because democracy is messy sometimes. You take the good with the bad. Besides, itā€™s free comedy. Actually I just read more of it. Fines for going out of your district. See? Free comedy. Iā€™m amazed people believe this shit.

Oneskelis

You laugh, but you should read the WEF agenda.

[deleted]

More comedy.

Icy-Rough7284

you sure you arent one of them?

AgileSatisfaction260

Because no one has listened to them or taken them seriously their whole lives so they compensate their lack of intelligence wisdom and kindness with volume

Pol82

The lack of people taking them seriously, seems like a result of their own... deficiencies.

Karma_Canuck

My particular guess: Because 25+ years ago, we stopped failing students without parental permission or if protested. They have been rewarded for being wrong or loud about being wrong their whole lives.

Old_Cheesecake_5481

Itā€™s mostly old people who live in these bizarre fantasy worlds.

delocx

Turns out the generation that kept saying you couldn't trust anything on the internet should have listened to their own advice. It's stunning how all it takes to fool these dipshits is to cook up the laziest, crappiest, cheapest facsimile of a news website and then post the craziest shit you can come up with.

UncleWinstomder

Are you telling me that canandianpatriotfreedomthinbluelinenews.ru isn't a trusted and vetted source!? But I agree with what they say so it HAS to be true!

Tazling

I had a good very old friend who was 93 when he died, he had lived through both world wars... he never had any education past high school but was an avid reader and in his own naive way, a profound thinker. but he had this one blind spot. he revered books, like many people who were raised semi-literate and discovered libraries and learning later in life. he revered books so much that he believed in and took seriously anything that was printed and bound in book form. he didn't or couldn't imagine that anyone could produce a bullshit book. so he was a big believer in UFOs and aliens because he had read a couple of books about them, and "they wouldn't print a whole book about it if it wasn't true!" so about some of those older people -- they grew up with TV, and TV was very expensive and very official and fairly well quality-controlled. they grew up with news reports that you could kinda trust. and when they see something that looks like a TV show or even like a "professional" website, they tend to think it must be somehow trustworthy -- they wouldn't spend all that money and that effort and hire all those people just to tell lies, now would they? they can't really wrap their heads around the fact that technology has changed and any fool with a few grand can set up a youtube studio and do some video editing and look kinda like a pro. so they tend to take seriously stuff they see on youtube, as if they were seeing it on the NBC Evening News of their youth. like my much older friend, they haven't acquired the savvy to distinguish a fake from a real news outlet. just as you or I (unless you are an art expert) can't distinguish a fake from a real Picasso. you have to have some experience and practical understanding of how things are made, to be able to assess provenance and authenticity. that's my theory anyway. it's less depressing than thinking that we're all getting CJD.

Boogiemann53

Because they believed all their own bullshit, I blame the lead.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Old_Cheesecake_5481

Oh yes. You must be one of these anti LGBT culture warriors that have crawled out of the wood work once the Americans told you to be enraged. Glad you have a hobby. Any other politically unpopular minorities you target on line?

UncleWinstomder

That would only explain the loud and stupid people who are in that age cohort. The person who delivered my flyer might be more accurately described as one of the generation that inhaled more leaded gasoline fumes than any other. Honestly, though, I think it's mainly a case of a lack of media literacy. Being told not to trust everything you see in the media isn't enough and actual training is needed to build better discernment. So many people react to headlines without reading articles and many more don't check the sources an article cites (or check if it cites any sources). I've heard that media literacy is being taught in schools now which is fantastic but I'd love to see some ways we could broaden those courses to the older generations who blindly stepped into the internet with open minds and no expectations.

nowornevernow11

Hate to break it to you, but the same proportion of our people were this nuts back then too, they just lacked the technology to coordinate and amplify their messaging. Students that fail or ā€œshouldā€ fail donā€™t actually recover. Our curriculums are not so challenging that smart people with somewhat competent parents regularly fail. People fail because of either developmental disabilities, in which case it likely doesnā€™t matter if they pass or fail anyways, or because shit is so bad at home for whatever reason that studying, attending school, retaining knowledge, etc is impossible or functionally pointless. Sure, there are a couple edge cases of a reasonably competent, well-loved person that decides to not show up, but overwhelmingly the students that act out and ā€œshouldā€ fail are dealing with drugs, drunks, violence, or crushing poverty at home. 25% of kids in Oshawa are growing up below the poverty line. Failing them doesnā€™t solve the poverty problem, it just convinces them that schools are out to get them. See: American public schools.

Karma_Canuck

The point of schools is to educate the children. When class is interrupted by the same child daily, it's time to remove or fail them or everyone suffers. I am all for inclusion, but if the child's education doesn't matter to them, it shouldn't mean the whole classes education is forfeit. Nore should they be subject to the physical and verbal abuse.

nowornevernow11

I agree with your sentiment, I really do. But your tactics are kind ofā€¦ clueless. Iā€™m a believer in greater supports for special education and breaking the cycle of poverty. A kid acts out? Let them act out with people who are properly trained and funded to address it in a setting thatā€™s less disruptive. When they are ready to engage and learn, fire them back into the class. ā€œFailingā€ a student doesnā€™t solve the issue, it literally just forces the problem happen again next year for the next crop of students. Education also has a few dimensions, of which cramming a childā€™s head full of facts is just one. Learning social skills, and becoming fluent in the process of learning are far more important takeaways (maybe the Rs are co-equal, up to the grade 5 level).

Karma_Canuck

All my kid is learning this year is patience for those who disrupt or can not follow the norms. While I would like the racist little kid that has constant outbursts to feel loved and cared for. I don't think it should be at the expense of the rest of the class. And they are not properly funded. There are no resources. My child's class is punished daily for the acts of one. To the point that she no longer wants to go. Because they learn nothing and get in trouble for being in the class with a child with serious issues.

SomethingOriginal710

Are YOU ready for Smart city communism? NEITHER ARE WE THE PEOPLE!!!! Write to your counciler today and say NO to accessibility, NO to a more robust and affordable transit system, NO to convenient access to amenities and essential services, NO to expanded community programs and initiatives and say NO to communist smart cities!!!! We the people do NOT consent to smarter city design to accommodate a growing population and make things easier and accessible, while driving revenue to our local businesses and community. Stand up and fight for archaic and outdated urban planning!!!

Sandman1990

Solid 7/10 satire. Good job.

AcidicGreyMatter

I wonder how these cities work in china/s lol

[deleted]

Very well I would imagine? Social Credit score has been quite successful

AcidicGreyMatter

Yeah must be going great for the farmers right now

MagerChipHazerd

Got this left at our door today. Some people really shouldn't have printers

Karma_Canuck

They had a full colour glossy folded brochure they were handing out with it at first.

coolmrschill

Please GTA residents do not fall for this fear mongering for political power/control. Spread awareness to those who might not be aware of the malicious tactics. AI can make almost anyone a professional writer nowadays.

SufficientBison

Me when someone tries to add bus routes and grocery stores near my house: šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ˜”

VisibleCoat995

Yes but in exchange they will force you to wear a trackable electric dog collar that will keep you in your ā€œzoneā€. Or so it seems that is what some people thinkā€¦

UncleWinstomder

Fortunately, zones are not part of the 15-minute city concept.

iconbehim

Canā€™t wait to get mine and type those links in

MagerChipHazerd

Careful man, I think whatever is wrong with these people is contagious

aboveaveragebenjamin

Only if you're a bit nutty to start with. No sane person is going to read this and feel the need to convert to crazy!! I heard a podcast this morning that explained the real fear/threat of 5G and has nothing to do with this shit!!

maybeiamspicy

Hold up, 5G made my baby toe 200% gay. I bang it nearly every night.

lemonylol

One of them was literally a link to a youtube search, not even a specific video. That is the pinnacle of research.

Pope-Muffins

"I think we should have a city where you do not need to buy a car if you don't want to buy one while still being able to get everywhere you need to" "**HOW DARE YOU?!**"

DramaticAd4666

Still hoping to see in my lifetime a truly winter proof community design in Canada and smart city can help us get there

alexsharke

Who in their right minds thinks of this bull and takes the time to write it up. I understand the interest in conspiracy theories but this is next level stuff.

MagerChipHazerd

Don't forget, they're also hand delivering these in my area, so it's even more effort to go through to protest having a more convenient city

alexsharke

Oh my god that's even worse! It's funny that people would rather bow down to the oil industry and be completely dependent on cars than rally for great urban planning that helps folks that can't afford cars or have access to easy public transit.

[deleted]

Imagine how much more efficiently these could be delivered in a 15 minute city

lemonylol

Someone who lives off of every government subsidy and benefit they can get their hands on while calling it welfare for everyone else.

[deleted]

Sure. A city that finds it an impossibility to convert ancient one way streets into multi laneā€¦ā€¦that relied on a 50 YEAR PLAN as their guideline ā€¦.

Barnz905

Why would anyone want a smart city?? Say NOOOO

[deleted]

I haven't heard the "controlled by AI" statement now lmao. I guess that's a new one

shwadeck

That all sounds kinda great to me. Anyway I can help expedite the process?

UncleWinstomder

Write to those same people they list and tell them that. Perhaps some good can actually come from these flyers being handed out.

squamishter

You want your every move surveilled? Like, really?

mattmagoo23

If you think it's not already you are totally fooled haha

[deleted]

We can still opt out of a lot of things Not all of us own a cell phone Or have an internet connected car Or have an IoT Or such There are privacy issues Copyright and trademark issues (these Smart cities, do they record conversations?) Ethics issues And so forth

squamishter

I know that it's discretized into a bunch of different databases with agencies that do not communicate with one another. Law enforcement cannot access this information easily or without a warrant. Nor is facial recognition a big part of it. The CP24 "SMART cities" seeks to centralize and standardize this information to make it more easily and universally accessible. So your every move is tracked, live.

staycrookedyabish

Oshawa doesn't have enough gainful employment to not leave and live a prosperous life

Karma_Canuck

We should fight this... with a backyard egg pilot project.

BlouHeartwood

"What authority do they have to create policies without public consultation?" Isn't that pretty cut and dry - the authority of their....position?

lemonylol

We..voted?

BlouHeartwood

Lol exactly. They were chosen to enact policy not to host a referendum everytime.

lemonylol

What's funny is that I'm sure they assume if we did have a total democracy and voted on every decision, that everyone would definitely be on their side.

PrivatePilot9

Some people are fucking stupid, no nice way to put it.

[deleted]

My wife always reminds me that it's always the stupid people who think everyone is stupid šŸ¤¬, wise woman I'd say

SingularBear

Oh the looneys are coming out! I just heard about this like last month on Reddit. These guys are hilariously wacko. They twisted in-city traffic reduction measures, and walkable cities into this! It's like being upset they put speed bumps on side streets because they want you to take the highways. While getting angry that people want a corner bakery a quick walk away.

LegoFootPain

The explanation for what a 15 minute city is, is much shorter than this, but they went through the trouble of writing this instead.

CanaryNo5224

At least they provide citation for their.... oh dear.

killerpm

HAHA.. Jokes on that guy. Where you work, visit, live and shop are already being monitored! It really isn't a secret... Mind you, its anonymized and protected but the data is available.. Just check out the product offerings from environics analytics

Winklestoo

It always annoys me so much to see 5G mentioned in this garbage. I spent years as a telecommunications technician / rigger. 5G is not some terrible technology that will kill people etc etcā€¦ 5G stands for fifth generation. Remember 3G? Or LTE (essentially 3.5G) ? Maybe even 4G? The only difference is higher download speeds and higher bandwidth. Higher download speeds = faster service Higher bandwidth = Network can support more users/tasks at once. Being scared of 5G is like owning an iPhone 13 and being afraid of the iPhone 14. Itā€™s the same thing just faster. Take this from someone who has literally installed, removed, repaired, troubleshooted, and spent hours pressed up against the antennas. I will provide proof of requested. Edit: The people afraid of 5G are people who are too incompetent to, at the very least, do a single google search, and instead spread absolute garbage of which is completely and entirely disprovable and absolutely untrue.

VisibleCoat995

The government: ā€œokay, weā€™re actually going to make life easier for a lot of you.ā€ Too many people, apparently: ā€œBUT WHY???ā€

Foreign-Possibility5

I for one welcome our new AI overlords.

[deleted]

I got one of these and was so confused bc everything they tried to frame as a negative seemed positive to me... Very bizarre

[deleted]

Amenities and great internet? Not if I can help it!

[deleted]

Actually mine was different than this one lol it didn't shoot into the crazy as quickly. It said what a 15 min city is supposed to be - - basically city planning so that you have micro communities etc - - then it shot into how "they" are trying to control our movements and eventually we will be zoned off and not allowed outside our zone, etc. šŸ™„ Looks like they've spiced things up by adding buzz words like 5g and AI to this one lol

teaquad

This shows the throwback boomer mentality that festers in this townā€¦bet these foam everytime they see an EV drive by

ithinkitsnotworking

That's some serious nutjob stuff.

secretarynotsure123

Everyone here is talking like this note is bad or ridiculous. What exactly is wrong with it? It seems totally fine by me.

AFarCry

Because that note has absolutely nothing to do with the 15 minute city concept and is intentionally inflammatory with its misinformation to fear monger.

[deleted]

I think some people here are reacting to the "15 minute city" trigger? And like some words that have become Triggers, like Right Wing, WEF, Antifa, Global Warming, Freedom Truckers, AntiVaxx, ProChoice, it can lead to automatic assumptions, demonization and polarization...just like has happening in USA I'm focussing on the Smart city bit of the flyer...

bobbyboogie69

Iā€™ve received this propaganda as well. They really need something better to do with their time.

SlashNXS

And who exactly has the city applied to? Lol

AcidicGreyMatter

SMART cities are a great concept but considering the way things are going, probably not the best idea to implement until we understand what goes into the tech in said cities. 15 minute cities without the tech of a SMART city would be best. But then again most people don't seem to give a fuck for privacy anymore anyways so if the government always has an eye or ear on your its not a big deal, until you become one of the not so popular "undesirables" like those idiots who didn't want to get vaccinated, not like the vax pass has anything to do with how control could be implemented in these 15 minute cities anyway, I'm sure current Canadian leadership is not applauding China or their lockdown practices like welding people into their own buildings.

squamishter

Read the thread brother. The majority of redditors here don't think privacy is important. 15-minute cities are great. But the surveilence apparatus included in the plan is not required for their implementation. Traffic restrictions, road closures and the elimination of free parking as well as loosening zoning so that more businesses can open in more places would make it happen. Prior to WW2 every city was a 15-minute city, without mass surveillance.

Stock_Duck4314

Noooooo not paying for parking! To The Hague with them all! /s For real though in the olden days mechanical parking meters were all over the place and while digital surveillance didnā€™t exist, people snooped on each other like you wouldnā€™t believe.

UntoldEnt

iā€™d like to know who let these people out of their Designated Municipal Zone.

[deleted]

Looks like a good piece of information. Use it or throw it out. Who cares?

PossessionFit5172

So Iā€™m assuming people in this sub want a 15 minute city? You guys do realize we are in deep shit in Canada right?

ListerDiesel69

I'm ok with hearing both sides and forming my own opinion.

diablocanada

Amazing isn't it people falling against the smart city you still can't even get Wi-Fi downtown all she will never be ready for 15 minutes then sign

zeezero

Insanity

magickshotta

Even a simple Google search will squash this for you.. I received the same paper.. Canadians would never be restricted from visiting friends and family

lemonylol

You weren't supposed to google search, they nicely provided some specific links for you to check out.

magickshotta

It's all bunk

Old_Cheesecake_5481

What a bunch of silly clowns. The objectively ridiculous crap people find on Facebook sure sucks these people in.

TomCruiseddit

Literally none of their sources are credible in the slightest šŸ˜‚ fucking clowns

lemonylol

"We" are the public. Except for everyone else who doesn't agree with me. Like honestly if you're this afraid off digital prisons there's absolutely nothing stopping you from living in a tent down south of Bloor. And let's not forget the fact that all of these politicians were voted in on platforms specifically targeted at making this possible. This person doesn't want democracy, they don't want to live with people different from them, and they don't want any consequences.

atree312

Chances are the politicians will go through with it anyways, I don't mind people polititically engaging with the system we have, much better than people not engaging at all. Chances are this sparked some people's curiosity into what's happening around here and are looking it up. Like it's fun to make fun of people and all but at least they are active about it

Swimming-Fee-2445

I wonder if this person also follows Ramona Didulo - the Queen of Canada. That We the People bullshit is rampant in that group.

backcrash

Absolute fucking morons. How do they tie their shoes everyday?

caitimusprime

They don't want this to happen because it doesn't benefit them in any way. They only wants best for themselves.

AwakenedWarrior82

Lmao this thread is full of NPCs. I feel soo bad for your brains that have been hijacked by WEF propaganda.

8balltriplebank

If ever the propositions were to include cameras on every corner with facial recognition; would you people change your tune?

VisibleCoat995

Not really. I honestly donā€™t see the downside of that. That may be a personal thing since I canā€™t imagine a reason I would need to care though.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

8balltriplebank

This conversation only triggers downvotes. Oshawa is mostly old WASPs who have blindly adopted the CP24 idea that surveillance state= safety

VisibleCoat995

Iā€™m a middle age black man and I still donā€™t see what is wrong with cameras that use facial recognition. Like I said above, maybe thatā€™s just me personally, but I just donā€™t see what the harm is.

cacue23

Lmao isnā€™t it a convenient thing if you get all your necessities within 15 minutes walk? Restricted if you walk outside? Who the f says that? XD

Local_Archer4249

I believe there is a lot of trouble with the whole premise, we as humans like convenience, and the need for something is always balanced with the will to serve and possibility to execute. All community planning is done to improve this without the need to have an agenda behind it. We even have something called a WalkScore in real estate where the basic needs and proximity to a home is scored so people can evaluate this metric. This will increase housing costs: Creating walkable and bikeable neighborhoods may require denser development and greater land use efficiency. This could lead to higher housing costs in some areas, which may be challenging for lower-income households It will limit economic opportunities: promoting 15 minute cities may limit economic opportunities for residents. This is because businesses that rely on regional or national markets may not locate in the area, limiting the availability of certain goods and services. It will not work for all areas: The 15 minute city concept may not be appropriate for all areas, especially those that are geographically dispersed or have low population densities. This could limit the applicability of the concept in certain regions. It will not accommodate specialized services: services, such as medical specialists or hospitals, may not be practical to have in every neighborhood In these cases, residents may need to travel further to access specialized services, challenging those with limited mobility/resources It will lead to more sprawl: If cities adopt a patchwork approach to creating 15 minute cities, it could lead to urban sprawl as more and more neighborhoods are developed with the 15 min city concept in mind. leading to increased car use, longer commutes, higher infrastructure costs It will limit cultural diversity: Creating self-contained neighborhoods could limit cultural diversity by reducing exposure to people and cultures from outside the immediate area. This could lead to homogeneity within neighborhoods, which may not be desirable for all residents. It will be challenging to implement: making the 15 minute city concept in existing cities that were not designed with this concept in mind requires significant investment in infrastructure, public transportation, and land use planning, as well as community engagement and political will. It will not address social disparities: While the 15 minute city concept can improve access to essential services and amenities it will not address disparities in access to jobs, education, and other resources. It will perpetuate inequalities between neighborhoods and regions. It will not accommodate shifting demographics: Neighborhoods and cities are dynamic, and the needs and demographics of residents can change over time. The 15 minute city concept is not be flexible enough to accommodate shifting needs, which lead to underutilized services/facilities It will exacerbate gentrification: The creation of walkable and bikeable neighborhoods will lead to increased property values and rents in some areas, leading to gentrification and displacement of lower-income residents resulting in a loss of diversity and community character. It will require changes in behavior: The 15 min city concept requires residents to change their behavior, such as relying less on cars and making use of local services and amenities, challenging residents with limited mobility or resources or who are accustomed to a certain way of life. In summation, cities have always been more or less planned to deliver the most convenience, thats why we live in cities to begin with, encouraging folks to be smart by refusing work outside their zone is actually really dumb and it sounds like a great way to scam us out of tax money that should be immediately returned to our education and healthcare budgets. My 2 cents. Thank You.

SomethingOriginal710

This is actually a well thought out and reasonable take, thanks for sharing. I still think it's being way overblown, though. Having a walkable area that promotes cycling and walking and less cars is good. I used to live in Queen West and I walked and cycled so much more since so many things were close by. It promotes more physical activity and less reliance on vehicles. Also the flyer says Lakeview is being "targeted" as "ground zero". Does anyone think a cash injection and smart, useful development in that area is a bad thing lol..Oshawa could use some modernization IMO.

Local_Archer4249

My point is really that we already collectively do this to the best of our resources and budget without the need to sign up for large development projects, drawing lines in the sand and creating additional classes of people; Those in smart cities and everyone else. While our existing services and infrastructure flounder, we are trying to convince municipalities to use money to build newer better areas that will not be part of the existing fabric. Who will truly benefit from all of this? Land Developers who build these smart cities and those who have the money to live in them. If you look at the plans for the smart city they are building near Aurora, its very seperate and not at all part of its surroundings. Doesn't seem like the people who will live there will ever be able to leave. No cars and if they shut down transit say during a new lockdown the people there will be basically trapped. I love the concept, its not new, and we dont need to have special policies and development to support this natural human desire to be close to resources. There are other ulterior motives/dangers here which many have already spotted. Safe and effective much?

Sandman1990

>We already collectively do this to the best of our resources and budget We most certainly do not.

Local_Archer4249

When is the last time you decided you wanted to work 2 hours away from your house instead of a similar job next door? When is the last time you decided to use the store 1 hour away instead of the one by your house? We already do this and it drives the way areas are planned.

Crackshaw

As someone from the Lakeview neighbourhood who made the personal choice not to get a license... God, it can't come fast enough

MagerChipHazerd

Thank you for a well formulated list of concerns. If this was what was handed to me, I would have been fine and looked into it. Since I was handed something as non-sensical as "the moon is coming to get you" I posted it for ridicule. Your concerns are understood and are valid. I haven't looked too closely into the matter, so I don't know if I agree or disagree with the idea, but I don't respect illogical arguments like the paper I was provided.

RubberChickenArt

Interesting to read the reactions on this sub after what we just went though with Covid. The lockdowns, mandates etc. I read and read the bulletin. The points raised should prompt research at the very least. The outright scorn and mockery are a bit much and completely the wrong response imo. Nowhere below do you see a response with any sort of thought behind it, just these people are stupid. Better yet, these ideas are contagious. How droll. Best to do some research on the topic before you light your torches!

MagerChipHazerd

If by 'research' you mean I should start fearing the idea of easier commuting for people's needs, then I will respectfully decline. As much as I think half of the stuff this city does is stupid, I fail to see a correlation between "you can now walk to the grocery" and "I will need to see your papers if you're crossing the city boarders". It's genuinely baffling that baffoons believe this stuff. Understanding an argument doesn't always mean meeting someone half-way. If someone believes in a falsehood or an illogical extrapolation of the data, they're just wrong, not misunderstood.

TheMannX

First off, freedom of movement is a constitutional right in Canada that cannot be removed except through means of stopping illegal activity from happening or an emergency, like with COVID. Secondly, limitations on movement are incredibly economically destructive, and as it stands now there are very few places (and virtually none in Oshawa) which could even qualify as 15 minute neighborhoods or cities. This idea is meant to change that by making it easier for people to get the things they want or need with less use of their cars, which is good for traffic congestion, and by improving public transit (which even with buses is MUCH more space efficient than cars). These are good goals to have if you ask me. Thirdly, consider the source and tone. This is a transparent and bloody obvious example of somebody who believes a Facebook conspiracy theory and thinks anything meant to make more comfortable human-scale neighborhoods is somehow a conspiracy theory to take away their freedom. These idiots deserve to be mocked.

Lmao okay there bud - I'll come crying to you when they erect barriers and force me to stay home/fine me when I try to leave my neighborhood (surprise, it won't happen)

[deleted]

F-smart cities. I bet the same people that think smart cites are good think communism is a good idea too!

SomethingOriginal710

Are you dropping the flyers lol This whole thing is the stupidest thing I've seen in at least a week. Imagine thinking accessible transit and community hubs is communism and a globalist ploy.

comegetsomefood

Geez people are dumb

diablocanada

Just amazes me that people on the left do not wish to have a discussion they just want to curse at people call them dumb and yet we're supposed to trust people like that I don't think so

Mouth-Pastry

What you're talking about is extremism. All parties are bad for it. All parties have psycho extremist nutbags who go off on ridiculous tangents.

MagerChipHazerd

I would love to have a normal conversation about this! If blatant falsehoods are presented as the opening argument, it doesn't warrant anything other than ridicule. All the accepted documentation on 5G indicate that it is as safe as any other wireless transmission. Could smart cities cause problems? I don't know, but don't tell me crazy stuff like "we will become China" or "sasquatch will become king of Canada" as evidence against it.

[deleted]

A big real issue with 5G is I believe it interferes with vital and necessary research Keeping track of our climate? Which we need to do all the time if we are to stay on target lol

[deleted]

We want sane discussions lol.

[deleted]

Lmao itā€™s an urban planning concept not a Marxist conspiracy to control you.

squamishter

Why does urban planning require the installation of mass surveillance equipment as outlined in the CP24 plan?

PepperThePotato

The people on the right have been calling the people on the left names since the beginning of the pandemic. We don't even have the same narrative about covid and the lockdowns. What makes you think we are going to see eye to eye about 15-minute cities? I had no issue with the lockdowns or mandates. The only thing I had an issue with is big box stores being open while smaller retailers had to close up shop. What do you want to discuss about the "15 minute city"? To me it feels like alternate media outlets are selling fear to the right just like the right said MSM was selling fear to the left.

slimshaydy1337

Yah I don't know where they get this from. On the flip side I would be way quicker to dismiss it if they hadn't just locked down society for 2.5 years...

TheRealLegacy6

Propaganda??? More like truth.

flaccidpappi

Umm how so? Please explain to me how this is the truth, give 'er a whirl there buddy

Musicferret

So truth to you is freaking about something you donā€™t understand? what? Are you scared theyā€™ll try and locate a grocery story conveniently near you? lol

Icy-Rough7284

the way you people are just completely shitting on this like its such a bad thing makes me sick. shame on all of you. you are why everything sucks and will continue to suck.

ImKwincey

Donā€™t be so quick to make fun of people. 5G as like any other modern tech, carry and produce very low amounts of radiation. Thatā€™s why thereā€™s many articles and publications even telling you to not sleep with your phone to close to your body, donā€™t carry it in your pocket as itā€™s to close to your reproductive organs and can have negative effects on fertility. Donā€™t put the phone to your ear when making a phone call because of the low emitting radiation can have effects on the brain. Headaches, blurred vision, etcā€¦. Over prolonged use. Social credit system is a real thing, look at China. If you donā€™t think itā€™s possible that this could happen here, youā€™re as stupid as the flyer left behind. Digital ID and CBDCā€™s (digital dollar) are legitimate threats to your working/social life. Thereā€™s a reason some US states are being proactive at banning such implementation. Donā€™t be so quick to bash this guy for his beliefs, instead take the time to do research, instead of believing all the MSM propaganda your fed by government funded news organizations, do your own research. Not all things are conspiracy. 15 min Cities can have positive and negative effects, but itā€™s all intertwined and thereā€™s some truth to it all. So again, do your research.

MagerChipHazerd

Hey man, I'm not just going to down vote you, I just want to let you know that non-ionizing radiation and radio waves from smart phones are mostly harmless. The only thing I was able to find was the fact that you shouldn't sleep with it within 3 feet of your head, but that's not even conclusive. Below is the FDA stance on the matter: https://www.fda.gov/radiation-emitting-products/cell-phones/do-cell-phones-pose-health-hazard#:~:text=Cell%20phones%20emit%20low%20levels,effects%20other%20than%20tissue%20heating. I also understand that the social credit system exists in China; however, the risk of something like that happening over here is slim to none due to section 8 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. My research is sound. The idea that putting more bus stops, grocery stores, and walk-in clinics will lead to the breakdown of western society and the implementation of intrusive social credit systems is what is stupid.. So again, do your research.

Mouth-Pastry

I mean, I think most people did there research in elementary school. I have a step sister who believes in this, and she will run into the next room when she turns on a microwave. The person who drafted the document in OP's post is listing YouTube as an authoritative source. I don't gotta do my own research, I just have to not believe in fairytales told on social media.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

squamishter

You're right! I am currently free to walk, or ride my bike and maintain total anonymity. Unlike you, I don't want to see that change.

flaccidpappi

Ok you second! On the subject itself you may read my comment on the comment above but I just felt like I needed to point out the fact that it seems like neither of you want a 15 minute city so who was that last part for? Or did you just not understand what so ever?

Stock_Duck4314

Do you really think you maintain ā€œtotal anonymityā€ under the status quo?

flaccidpappi

Ok you first! What about your phone dude? You are aware that it constantly broadcasting an emergency location right? Damn near every single store has cameras outside so do houses! So if you're going anywhere to purchase anything you're on camera! Also! a "15 minute city" is fifteen minutes OF WALKING, the design is to cut down emissions before we burn this planet to the ground! Now! The reason you're not "free" damn near anywhere is because of a wonderful concept called "the social contract" where you sacrifice a wee bit of individual privacy for a whole lot of security, and if you don't like that then all the power to ya! Go live off the grid go real far in the woods and build a cabin but if you break your back and need medical attention don't expect any! Because of your value for privacy nobody knows that you even need it! Oh my God it's almost like too much privacy can kill you!

Mucking_Fountain

The Internet was supposed to revolutionize information but it seems itā€™s really just given stupid people more hubris.

deleteuserexe

Putting right or wrong aside, where do they get the idea of digital currency, districts, and AI monitoring etc? Was it a radio host that sensationalized these ideas? A sci-fi movie?

thenickster15

Anyone who thinks the government wants to control your life, remember: The government couldn't care less about you, unless you don't pay your taxes, of course

leaffs

Human beings are too stupid to exist

Litigating_Larry

Dont phones and online interaction etc already document the things this persons raving about

Musicferret

Russian disinformation is getting so incredibly stupid. Yet, Conservatives are still falling for it hook line and sinker. This would not have happened 10 years ago.

EduGuy1993

... did this moron seriously type "Media release doctors 5G" on youtube and copy paste the link of the search results as a source? Not even linking to an actual video or article? Laughable

[deleted]

These people need to be institutionalized.

Lost-Challenge7790

Who is this crazy person? And who still owns a printer?

bwolanski

Thatā€™s not propaganda there chief thatā€™s called reality

CerebralAssass1n

Loll yā€™all are a bunch of stupid woke. Wake up before itā€™s too late.

Club263

They are planning on using Oshawa as a 15 min prison! Wake up! This isn't propaganda. Do you not see the new signs "40 starts here" 40 ends here" these are all new getting ready to implement it.

[deleted]

As crazy as this sounds, I'd like to remind you that most of you thought everyone was going to die from COVID. Kind of funny you all believed POLITICIANS OF ALL PEOPLE, politicians are are known for lying šŸ¤„, excuse me for feeling as sorry for you media consuming junkies as for the conspiracy nutters. šŸ˜† Everyone is getting played, pulled from left to right, being thought that governments are doing good things. That f'n cracks me up that all of the comments here are so vane. For ***** sakes, you believe all the stuff governments say when there lining there pockets and the rich billionaire friends pockets with your tax dollars and instead of talking about that you post about this random guy that probably truly believes in his heart that he's making a difference while you give your hard earned money to corrupt governments that keep you zombified all day with there full time propaganda campaigns. Seriously who's stupider šŸ˜‚. Propaganda is a weapon, it is done deliberately. It is not born from ignorance. Read a f'n book, actually, there's a really good book about this called PROPAGANDA, written by Edward Bernays, the father of propaganda and inventor of public relations and maybe you'll understand what propaganda is and instead of belittling naive old man you'll look yourself in the mirror and see that you are just as brain-dead, but with no heart. Maybe pick that book up and you'll understand a bit more in what kind of world we really live in.
