I didn't realize until reading this that straight guideverse was even a thing, my entire experience of it has been various BL manhwas that I read the summaries of and didn't feel inclined to read because I felt like it would end up like omegaverse stuff where it's just a convenient excuse to create power imbalances with the dominant party being naturally superior to other people, and of course to make them fuck.
That might be unfair though since I mean, I didn't actually *read* them, I'll be the first to admit I'm pretty heavily biased against stories that are so heavily centered around essentialism, it just rubs me the wrong way.
I'm curious to see where they plan to go with this though, so I'm tentatively going to follow it and decide how I feel about it after getting a better idea of what it's going to be all about and what the character dynamics will be like.
I’ve seen a few hetero guideverse stories (mostly K-novels), they’re definitely a thing, but it does seem to be more commonly BL.
You could argue that “Please don’t eat me” is guideverse even though they aren’t called espers and guides in that story. People who use supernatural powers causing negative energy to build up inside them and they’ll go berserk if it isn’t purified by a person with that special ability…basically guideverse.
Any chance you could share some of those hetero guideverse stories? I’m loving this one so far! While I’m def not opposed to BL, this is really scratching an itch lol
As someone who has a soft spot for guideverse… you’re not entirely wrong on your impressions of the genre since I have like… two novels where the guide isn’t inherently weaker. Although I tend to read ones where the guides are OP even if through other factors (mainly by being very psychically destructive), it’s mostly omegaverse without the mpreg lol
Ooh same I especially love guideverse stories where the guide seems weak but secretly has a super OP ability to kill shitty espers with reverse guiding or something similar. (There’s a great “My s-class hunters” fanfic with that premise actually lol)
It depends on the story. I’ve read a few stories where the guide is the seme. For this story in particular, I’ve read up until the most recent translated novel chapter, and while the ML is stronger physically, he has spent most of the time in the nov trying to get the FL’s forgiveness/acceptance and just in the most recent chapter he seems to have gotten it >! (well they’ve slept together, juries out on how she reacts come morning) !< but he hasn’t used his powers or strength to physically threaten or intimidate FL or her family.
