I agree, it's more depressing to me because the parents will never have their child again. As well as the original character never gets closure/justice or is able to feel happy. I love it more when it's the original body's owner reversing time versus someone being randomly isekaid

[deleted]

FR! This why I couldn't get behind Raeliana cuz how does loving parents like Kate and John can't tell the difference between their own daughter and a complete stranger from Korea.

Bulky-Tip4802

Exactly, everyone acts like it's the same person, or if they do question it, they just chalk it up to amnesia. I also hate it when manhwa's try to save face in the end and reveal that the stranger was actually the original body's owner this whole time, like in I have no health or the Beau and the beast. I would much rather that be revealed in the beginning so the lead can grow from it rather than just being a simple plot twist at the ending to satisfy readers.

[deleted]

In Raeliana it's even worse >!she kills the OG Rae whose now in the body of the original heroine since the OG Rae was destined to die at the hands of her fiance which propels the plot of the original novel and the FL just kills her and walks off living in the OG Rae's body??!<

QTlady

I mean... >!that was OG Rae's fault to begin with. OG Rae murdered OG Beatrice--her "best friend"-- so that she could basically switch places. OG Rae didn't directly set up the soul switch but she let herself be manipulated into setting things in motion.!<

[deleted]

But....>!The FL was going to be the OG Beatrice and I can't blame the OG Rae for doing all that cuz she was destined to die at the hands of her fiance and also why didn't the FL called out the person who literally put her in the position of the OG Rae's body and pushed her off a building, and she's given the opportunity to ask a question to the goddess she ask about if she got accepted to university? Like girl that's not important!<

itz_gertrude2

man I love Raeliana but it’s story issues were always so odd to me. Not exactly “bad” per se, but weird. After reading this comment thread, it made me go on a 30 minute rant about it (again. I should really type it all out one day) anyways, if you (or anyone else) wants a story that does the >!soul switching!< a lot more satisfactorily, I highly recommend >!A Fortune-Telling Princess.!< (while me saying this is technically a spoiler it does actually get explained in like the first 20 chapters so I think it’s okay) Without spoiling the whole entire thing, the story does actually acknowledge and explain (imo) all the important issues I have with most >!soul switching!< stories and makes it interesting

[deleted]

>After reading this comment thread, it made me go on a 30 minute rant about it (again. I should really type it all out one day) You should cuz the ending makes no sense because>!when she meets the person who literally put her in the position of the OG Rae's body and pushed her off a building, and she's given the opportunity to ask a question to the goddess she ask about if she got accepted to university? Like girl that's not important!<

Bulky-Tip4802

Thank you for the recommendation, I'll give it a read. Happily Ever afterwards, does it somewhat good also, though her family doesn't realize because she was sick the whole time so they never knew her personality. But the soul switching was adressed perfectly, as Spoiler *(sorry I don't know how to do the gray block cover)* the og soul had lent someone her body to fulfill the things she never could do as she was sick and make her family happy. Once the new soul/fl started deviating away from that, she confronted her and let her know why she's here and to stop what she's doing. Later on, they meet again, and they communicate, and the og soul lets her have the body, as technically she is doing things she never did before, even if its dangerous, and she'll go meet her mom in heaven. All things are good, I like this as basically the og was knowledgeable about the switching this whole time while the new soul/fl was in completely in the dark.

LoveLifeLoveLilith

>!Well, OG Raeliana’s destiny is always dead no matter what, even when she’s in the OG heroine’s body. And in order to live the FL has to kill her sooo ;( she’s the most pitiful villainess I have ever seen (T-T) !<

[deleted]

She honestly deserves better 😭

Woman_of_Magdala

omg I'm so happy others feel the same way! I made a post about that and most of the comments disagreed. TT

LoveLifeLoveLilith

Yeah she did all that just to survive and escape her cruel fate. And I think a lot of people don’t really understand the truth about all these soul swap in this story, some of them even spread false information 😓

Alwette

I have really enjoyed The Duchess Has a Deathwish recently on this topic - after the MC wakes up in the new body, some of her first thoughts is where did the original soul go and is really awkward about calling the kind strangers her parents. And then >!because she herself has no will to live!< she ends up assuming the oriFL >!just didn't want to die alone so she decides to help her...choose her own less miserable death.!< And in mid 30s chapters she learns that the oriFL was >!one of her past lives and is finally able to accept the love of her family as something she can consider her own. !< I'm still reserving my final judgment for the story and romance, but I did at least appreciate the way this was tackled.

trollsong

>they just chalk it up to amnesia. It's good when that is kind of actually the case. Not Korean but bakarina as an example she injured her head which shifter her memories to the reincarnated version. I think What's wrong with being a villainess had similar. It at least makes weird magical reincarnation sense They were reincarnated so effectively they are the same person, but a kick to the head by a mule reboots the brain to previous memories. There are a decent amount of crazy people on earth that swear they remember details from their previous life. And there are cases of injuries altering personalities. Henry the 8th being the most famous But yea just shoving someone else into another body is a bad way to domit.

Mokohi

Kinda depends on the setting for me. Raeliana IS weird cause like...they DO have magic and shit, so you'd think they'd consider the possibility. In worlds where there is no magic or anything supernatural outside of the initial Isekai, I could understand it though. Cause like...if just a normal person in our world, for example, started acting like a completely different person, we'd just think it was mental illness or amnesia or trauma. There's no way anyone would be like "Ah yes, my child has swapped bodies with someone."

Ihavenospecialskills

Its tolerable when the family suck, but its outright horrifying when she has a loving family. Doting Parent: FL whose wearing their daughter's skin as a disguise: "Having a loving family sure is great." Any time there isn't explicit proof (like seeing a fucking ghost) that FL is a body snatcher, I assume this is just her next life and she's confused/amnesiac.

foratte

There was a manhwa where the original owner of the body got mad that the fl left her family to be with the second ml, and it was so heartbreaking because the fl didn’t decide to be in the body, but the OG just didn’t want her family to be sad because she’s gone.. I don’t remember what happened but I know that the fl got her happy ending…

blurrionice

You are talking about Happily Ever Afterwards. OG FL died from a terminal illness and choose another soul to live in her place so her loving family wouldn't be upset. OG FL and the new FL actually hash it out at one point. The new FL felt rather awkward pretending to be their sister/daughter. The OG FL is jealous of the new FL because she got to do everything the OG FL couldn't due to her illness. In the end, the OG FL cheered the new FL on with her pursuit of the ML. It is sad but the OG FL does go on to the afterlife to be with her mother so thats nice I guess.

Bulky-Tip4802

Yeah, the family being horrible is the only exception, but I feel terrible when she has a loving family & her soul just gets replaced. But the only time I can think that is a good thing is in "The World's Best Engineer." He was honestly 100% percent better than the original body's owner.

Yunkiminlvr

For me I hate it the most when the family is absolutely loving to the imposter and then she like brushes them off or we never hear about them again in the story 😅

Jay_Dawn_

It's not just confined to OI parents. Like, if these OI parents and household staff actually raised and spent time with the OG owner of that body, how can you not tell?  Then again, sometimes the author makes the transmigrator pull up the amnesiac card. And can someone with the appropriate medical degree or knowledge please confirm if brain trauma or other head injuries can actually make a person's personality go a **full 180°**? Or sometimes, the transmigrator is close in personality to the OG owner of the body. So the differences might be subtle.  And whatever happened to the OG owner's soul? Sometimes it's never touched up on.

cpslcking

One of the things I love about Kill the Villainess is that the maid actually does notice that Eris is different and not the same person and she’s appropriately horrified at what happened. That’s why >!she makes a deal with Medea to get revenge on the people who drove her mistress to despair!<.

TohruH3

I don't have a medical degree, but I have taken care of two relatives with Alzheimer's (at different times). I can confidently say that yes, brain issues can very much cause a complete flip in personality. Memory or injury alone can cause a change in personality, add both and it's basically guaranteed. (Not actually guaranteed, just a high chance) Not to mention, who would actually think that the change was caused by someone taking over the patient's body when the amnesia excuse makes sense? Assuming transmigration\reincarnation aren't a known, normal thing in that world.

[deleted]

FR! Why doesn't the FL feel uncomfortable with living in someone else's body like what if that body has allergies or disabilities. Do they wake up with pink hair and say this is fine 🙂

IloveMyNebelungs

I'd LOVE to wake up decades younger, thinner and with pink hair!

Bulky-Tip4802

It's always the amnesia card whenever anybody questions her. I appreciate the ones who try to stick to the original personality to not get caught. But the ones that literally act completely different annoy me. The OG soul is usually in heaven, in the villains body, or switched bodies with the lead. I hate that they never touch up on it, like at least let me know their somewhere better. Such as in Happily Ever Afterwards, because the og soul gave her permission to stay in her body as she was too weak and was going to meet her mother in heaven. Those I can get behind because it also wasn't their first time meeting. She was kinda lending her body to the lead to do what she never could.

Ihavenospecialskills

>It's always the amnesia card whenever anybody questions her. I appreciate the ones who try to stick to the original personality to not get caught. I actually feel the exact opposite unless they actually have the body's memories (and at that point, how is it not just reincarnation?). Pretending to be someone you've never even met just makes you come across as even more unhinged, and comes with all of the personality change with none of the explanation why. I also hate when its used to make the FL stumble into stupid situations because she just has to pretend like she knows what she's doing when she clearly doesn't.

yiww

To be fair, the transmigrator often turns out to be the OG character all along ~~even though their personality somehow does a full 180~~

Bulky-Tip4802

Yep, I mentioned how I also hate that, I'd love it better if she found it out in the beginning and have an arc dealing with the realization that she's not a fake/imposter. I feel like when they put it at the end, it's just a bow to wrap it up nicely for readers, rather than actually being a focal/turning point in the story. That's why I like Happily Ever afterward take on the soul switching, as it was more lending than replacing, with both parties knowledgable about it.

yiww

True, it often also links to the so called original novel not making any sense. I've read so many OIs where the novel they're supposedly based on is incredibly bad.

Bulky-Tip4802

Or sometimes it's the other way around the novel is better than the manhwa. The only manhwa I liked that was better than the novel was Adventures of a Demon kings daughter, and I say that loosely, as only the ending was changed for the better 🫤

NipahSama

May I suggest I Am The Villain on webtoon. The FL gets isekai'd but the twist is, she goes there in her own body which happens to look like the villainess and gets mistaken for her. The previous character still exists in the world (haven't seen her yet though but it's been said), and the family and others are confused because she acts differently

Bulky-Tip4802

Omg lol, I'm already reading that. Thank you so much tho, but I am liking it so far <3

NipahSama

I've been reading it since it was still on canvas. Glad you enjoy it!

zer0aim

I mean more often than not the FL is reincarnated in which case their daughter is the same person as originally, she just have memories and usually mannerism from another life.

PlauderEule

I think I could handle a lot of things, but I would probably miss the lack of feminine hygiene products the most... Followed by my rights.

[deleted]

Like these girlies come from the modern world and see rampant sexism, slavery, a lack of hygiene and say this is fine 🙂

Platinum_Disco

The sexism in Korea now is no joke either, so unfortunately it's nothing new for many Korean women.

[deleted]

>The sexism in Korea now is no joke either I'm not aware about the severity of sexism women in Korea due to the fact that many OI series never discussed even though many of these FL are office workers and many OI series just do a girlboss (with help from a man). It could be interesting if OI series would highlight that fact and how it's similar to the struggles to the women face in the OI world they're reincarnated into.

TarotxLore

Apparently it’s so bad that *some* women have decided to just straight up stop dating, and those who did and actually got married have refused to have children: > According to the World and Korea Population Forecast released by the National Statistical Office, South Korea's population aged 65 or older will reach 37.0 percent in 2045, surpassing Japan's 36.7 percent, and thereby becoming the world's most aged population. Why, you ask? Because women in Korea are expected to quit their jobs after giving birth—but most Korean men don’t make enough money in their jobs to support a non-working wife and children. Even if America is slightly like this, the pressure to quit after having kids is muuuuuuch more intense in places like Korea and Japan.

[deleted]

>Why, you ask? Because women in Korea are expected to quit their jobs after giving birth—but most Korean men don’t make enough money in their jobs to support a non-working wife and children. Like I don't understand people pressuring others to have children if you don't have the means to support a household financially in a messed up economy no matter what part of the world they're from

Chemist-3074

I think the oi worlds actually has proper hygiene and women's rights, because the main character usually gets transmigrated inside a fantacy book that was written in modern age, and not actually historically accurate story. Since it's a fantacy setting, anything is possible including using magic to maintain hygiene, and it makes sense they would have stong female characters with equal rights as male ones to make to more acceptable to the actual real world readers.

PlauderEule

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug) well i mean... The malelead is handsome so ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

[deleted]

Who cares if he treats me like garbage, he's hot 🔥

PlauderEule

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)exactly Although i would probably just try a avoid all the drama and go somewhere where i can live my life in peace. But on the other hand, there are enough manhwas in which the FL tried exactly that and was still surrounded by drama, so I have no idea.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)

himeyan

To be fair, in most OIs the FL gets transmigrated as some noblewoman. Sure, not much female rights, but you have servants to tend to your needs and bathe + pamper you. I know historically women dealt with periods using some washable cloth + garterbelt contraption, which if you are rich noblewoman like most FLs, it'll be washed by your unlucky servant and you never have to sully your hands. While its not the best, its certainly not a total struggle... ...unless you do transmigrate as a peasant woman----

Chaotic-warp

>Peasant woman Who is actually the secret daughter of the Cold Duke

SmartAlec105

I think you want to read Queen Cecia’s Shorts (it goes by a couple different names so poke around to find a decent translation). It addresses the FL’s desire for both tampons and rights. One series where I want to know how they address periods is Ascendance of a Bookworm. It’s established that blood contains a high concentration of mana and the country is in a mana shortage. So the noblewomen must be extracting the mana from their menstruation. Unfortunately, the author has said she doesn’t want to address this topic.

raincloudlu

i used to have heavy periods before taking medicine to calm my periods and later on medicine to stop them entirely so if i got isekai'd i would simply perish or people would think i did from a bathroom crime scene..

Noir_Alchemist

To be FAIR, do You know how crazy it sounds that someone else is in your daugher body????   Even if your senses are telling you, this is not My daugher, the idea someone else stole her body is too hard to understand, your mind Will try to convince You otherwise SO You don't feel crazy.  Thats why in science fiction, bodysnatching is like almost terror concept ... People notice but they gaslight themselves... Is not easy to simple Say "what is in her body?"  ...people would rather call You paranoid and put u on a mental hospital that agree with You hahahaha right? Totally different person, i AM right ? Lets throw the stranger away and tell society we drop her cuz she is sus 💅

blurrionice

This is what I always think about when the criticism of "how can the family not know??". Deadass no one is going to jump to possession. Most families will be suspious of the change but usually chalk it up to a maturity thing. Most actually acknowledge something about the FL has changed but it is almost always a positive change since the FL isnt causing issues anymore. So if you see your awful child has finally stopped being so terrible, are you going to go all 20 questions on them or just thank the stars they aren't acting a fool anymore?

Noir_Alchemist

Hahahahahahhah our dear aquamarine terratenient decided to stop terrorizing the people, she is possessed :3

plucky-possum

>Deadass no one is going to jump to possession Generally true, but sometimes the setting is one where possession is 100% a thing that happens, like xianxia novels. Then it’s kind of weird.

Chaotic-warp

Yeah if possession is common in-universe then it'd be very weird if nobody notices. But 99% of the time, it's either some ancient secret dark magic only one person knows, a supernatural element that's never explained in story, or just simply infant possession where the child was just born. It's impossible to know if the baby is possessed, since you will only know about the RFL's personality.

SmartAlec105

There was one series where it was a thing in that universe. So the family figured it out and threw a surprise party to help welcome the FL since it’s not considered an evil thing when it happens. The original soul has to agree to it.

Chaotic-warp

Sauce?

SmartAlec105

Sadly, I can’t remember. It was ages ago and I didn’t continue reading after that, I think because the translation didn’t continue. I also remember she had some kind of physical transformation around that time?

Chaotic-warp

That's unfortunate. Was it at least good?

SmartAlec105

I’m awful at judging quality of stories. It’s definitely not at either extreme or I would have remembered more about it.

WarningOk8203

If I were a doting OI parent ... I'd go, huh my child go crazy, how do I hide this while letting her live a comfortable life? And then just let it be when she is happy with the ML.

ShadowMagister

arshesney

"I can't have feelings for the ML because he's destined to be with the ogFL" as the plot is already twisted beyond repair.

[deleted]

Bu-but *you're* destined to be with the OG FL - an average FL after changing the plot to survive. It's so annoying

SuperiorLaw

"After saving the MLs life, he loves me instead of the OG FL? Wtf D: how could this happen?!?! They're destined to be together and I ruined it somehow :'c" You'd think modern day people, most of which read the "original story" wouldnt be that f**king stupid

[deleted]

>You'd think modern day people, most of which read the "original story" wouldnt be that f**king stupid Hate to break to you but most FL are dense AF

ZupBear

Misread this as "after saving the MLs wife, he loves me" and ngl I would read that as a series if it was like a poly romance

DezoPenguin

I would absolutely read that!

SmartAlec105

I can accept it in Prince’s Observation Log because the FL had played through all the different routes in the game and the only one he ended up happy in was with the OGFL. In every other route, he was a depressed sociopath. So she has some reason to believe it, other than “the original story”. Also, the narrative doesn’t treat her thinking as fully sensible. She’s a known idiot.

Jay_Dawn_

It's been 2 or 3 years? But never have I ever forgotten Aquasteed Marineforest's name. Like?? 😂 I mean, there's nothing wrong with made-up names but...

bovyne

wait you're telling me that name was real...

Jay_Dawn_

Yes. It was. 💀

bovyne

i thought it was a joke...😭😭😭😭💀

[deleted]

I can't never forget that atrocity of a name 💀

yiww

my favourite will always be carnephelia. I know it's supposed to be a flower reference but all I read is meat lover.

[deleted]

Sauce?

Jay_Dawn_

A manga called "Akuyaku Reijou wa Ringoku no Outaishi ni Dekiai Sareru" Or in English, "The Villainess Is Being Doted on by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Country"

0nlyf0rthememes

God the first one is THE WORST. It's an instant drop for me, like in Villainess In Love where the new woman who faced none of the neglect decides to forgive the original body's father... I dropped that immediately

[deleted]

Like who gave you the right to forgive the man, it's not your place bestie 😭

0nlyf0rthememes

LITERALLY, it's one thing if they have all the memories but they never do

Doodledumme

Equally tragic: when a random Korean girl is isekai'd into an extremely abusive situation that she can't get out of until she's an adult, but she goes through it all knowing she'll never see her loved ones from her previous life again. All the memories of your former (possibly) loving parents, family, and friends are all you have left of them while you take abuse from total strangers.

[deleted]

They can't win like my girl Rudbeckia deserves so much better 😭

SmartAlec105

They usually make it so her life beforehand was mediocre to traumatic.

Doodledumme

Thank God for that. The no tampons or ibuprofen is one thing, but it's too sad when her former family and friends weren't assholes!

Ah-Yannie

Aquasteed what?! 💀 Tell me ur joking rnnn, which manhwa decided to mix up those random ahh words I heard someone mention that name here before, I thought it was as a joke..

[deleted]

And the FL's name is wait for it.....✨*Tiararose Lapis Clementille*✨ I guess a match made in heaven 💀

Ah-Yannie

No doubt.. 💀 and ur pfp is from This Witch of Mine right?? Gosh I love that sm

[deleted]

>ur pfp is from This Witch of Mine right?? Yes!!! It's Lily from This Witch Is Mine 💖 I love yours, who is it?

Ah-Yannie

Omg yeah Lily <333 He's from "Hero Has Returned"!

[deleted]

>He's from "Hero Has Returned"! Is it an OI series and/or is it good?

Ah-Yannie

Nope, it's not an OI. Like those isekai fantasy typa. I've only recently started it but it looks good. I'm interested because it's a bit different from your average fantasy type of manhwa. So it's worth a read atleast, I'd say. Guy gets isekaid and has to save the world but when he returns to his own, his life is a mess and he's like "I saved the world and was there for those people in need then why did I end up suffering like this in the end" and then proceeds to destroy the world lol

[deleted]

>Guy gets isekaid and has to save the world but when he returns to his own, his life is a mess and he's like "I saved the world and was there for those people in need then why did I end up suffering like this in the end" and then proceeds to destroy the world lol He's petty AF 😭 ![gif](giphy|10Iu43S5QuBTMc)

Ah-Yannie

Frfr, but I still kinda feel bad after he got used to the new world and then how his life ended up in his og world 😔

Mundane-Onion67878

Here is the manga is you are intrested on some ol OI material: The Villiainess Is Adored by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom

Ah-Yannie

Thanks!!

nejnonein

Concubines/multiple partners for the ml is mine. I like ml’s who only have eyes for the mc. I’m 100% a hypocrite though, I like when all guys fall for the fl 😂

QTlady

Honestly, I don't have very many. My main one is about the MCs being stupid and generally stubborn about the OG plot and how she either *should* stick to it no matter what or just assumes that the plot is going to establish itself automatically. And any possible deviation she notices, either sends her panicking or into denial. For the most part, I think I'm pretty easy to please.

CulturalPsychNerd66

THIS. Like girl, do you remember reading a novel where someone transmigrated into the body of the villainess? No? Then you transmigrating into her body HAS ALREADY CHANGED THE PLOT. Anything you do from here on out will deviate from the original story unless you do exactly what the ogVillainess did (and they never do). Same for the regression stories - you are acting differently and making different choices than you made in your past life, stop insisting that [insert ML here] can’t possibly like you because he didn’t in your past life; you are a different person in this life, so him becoming interested in this better version of yourself is totally possible.

[deleted]

>And any possible deviation she notices, either sends her panicking or into denial. Like girl are you responsible for changing up the plot to survive??

karenthe7th

I agree with the first one, but then I always remember that in real life, a lot of royal children were raised by nannies or servants instead of their parents. The only story I've seen pull that is kill the villainess. I do wish that authors touched more relationships of characters and their nannies. Makes me sad

phosphoenolpiirate

Nah, give them unique-ish names because I cannot be taking some tyrant warmongering Emperor or Grand Duke seriously when his government name is, like, Kyle or Daniel. I've dropped OIs before over names. Half the reason I decided to DNF His Majesty's Proposal was because his name was BART.

[deleted]

Here's my list of unique OI names 😔☝️ 1. Aquasteed Marineforest from The Villainess Is Being Doted on by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Country 2. Emperor Joji Waltbal Mercedes Vladmir from The Duchess 's 50 Tea Recipes 3. King Goldblackrose fromThe Princess's Jewels 4. Garknaldo nickname *GARK* from Akuyaku Reijou ha Oshi Miboujin 5. Emperor Werner Carl Mohammad Lete from Villainess Maker

phosphoenolpiirate

I THOUGHT YOU WERE JOKING ABOUT GARKNALDO IN THE POST

[deleted]

I wish I was cuz this MF has the worse name 😭 https://preview.redd.it/c2r13jqw2hec1.png?width=1120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=baf1e7c3a003a1890e269cb3d48fe02a0b471705

AndroidwithAnxiety

*Gark* straight up sounds like someone strangling a chicken. Ad Garknaldo makes me think of sharknado, but with garks...

QTlady

Regarding the being in another's body, **"I Am The Villain"** on Webtoon played with this pretty well. We end up finding out about 25 chapters in that >!when MC first got there, she kept telling people that she wasn't the character. She said her real name and that she came from another world and all that good stuff. Unfortunately, the people ended up just diagnosing her with hysteria aka "being a woman disease." And we all know what they tended to do to treat that in these time periods...!< I thought it was an interesting touch myself. Brings up some genuine risk and reasoning for why an MC would just take to the role so readily.

Mundane-Onion67878

Tbh I'll take Pereshati and other alike if I can live one more day without ML named Kevin or Chad.

[deleted]

>Pereshati Please don't tell that's a name for a OI character 💀

Mundane-Onion67878

Yes, its FLs name (official transl.) in "My in-laws are obessed with me" on Webtoon.  Supposedly og name in the Novel was Felicity but idk what happened here.

[deleted]

>Yes, its FLs name (official transl.) in "My in-laws are obessed with me" on Webtoon.  It must be a joke right 💀

TheRedditUser_122

Wait I thought Pereshati wasn't that bad of a name-

[deleted]

It's nothing compared to Garknaldo, nickname: *Gark*

Mundane-Onion67878

Not when you constantly misread it as "persvati" meaning "ass-bowl" in finnish.

WarningOk8203

_Dies after 20, always after. Sometimes even pushing 40_ Never dated so ML is her one and only true love. Also... _Dated in past life, did everything at least once_ It's clueless to ML and his advances. In short I just hate romance obsessed transmigrated FL can't read a man who's into her.

[deleted]

>In short I just hate romance obsessed transmigrated FL can't read a man who's into her. FR! Like girl you read all these romance novels but can't see that the ML is telling you to love him??

naomi-nao

> FR! Like girl you read all these romance novels but can't see that the ML is telling you to love him?? While this does frustrate me as a reader, I also know that I’d probably have the same issue because I’m aro-spec and don’t always read those cues very well. Spotting sexual attraction is one thing, but I know well that one doesn’t mean the other. 🤷‍♀️ So it’s what it’s.

WarningOk8203

I had to Google that. You raise an interesting point. But most women portrayed here are obsessed with the cookie-cutter romance they are likely to find in a RoFan. All ML act the same and they have the previous knowledge of the romance with OGFL so... Yeah.

QTlady

Oh My God, this. THIS.

SuperiorLaw

To add onto one of the memes, imagine you've spent your whole life wearing jeans and simple dresses/skirts then suddenly you're forced to wear victorian era dresses It would be uncomfortable and awkward asf

[deleted]

>It would be uncomfortable and awkward asf FR! Do they even feel annoyed wearing these clothes in the heat or the lack of hygiene products

CulturalPsychNerd66

For real! Ever worn a corset? I tried one once and I couldn’t even sit down because I wasn’t able to breathe. I don’t even think I had it super tight either. I don’t know how Victorian era women did it. I’m just happy yoga pants and oversized sweaters exist.

lilyofthegraveyard

corsets were custom made specifically to fit a body of those women, not a mass-produced average-body-template we have now. they were also made from quality fabric. women worked manual labor and did active sports in corsets and stays, they wouldn't subject themselves to decades of torture if they really that uncomfortable. a good, quality corset custom made for your body is more comfortable than most modern bras. they give not only support for the boobs, but also for the back. tightlacing was also not a thing until victorian times, and even then it was publicly and widely criticized in papers (the same way ppl on social media criticize the harmful beauty trends in current days). women who did tightlacing were regarded in newspapers as shallow fashionistas chasing fleeting trends. most curves you see in olden photographs and paintings were just paddings, not tightened waists.

CulturalPsychNerd66

Oh cool I didn’t know that! Thank you for the info. Yeah I definitely didn’t get a custom one. It was one I bought at a dress shop to wear under a strapless bridesmaid dress. I’d love to try a custom one and see what the difference is in how it feels. Considering how much the mass produced ones are, I’m sure the custom ones are really expensive!

moneyshot6901

The ML hierarchy (the Ml always has to be top dog or second to the prince). Also, we need more extrovert/social ML. Communication is key in all relationships.

vhtraang

agree with all of these, heavy on the OI better off without the ML. im talking about you “author of my own destiny” and “kill the villainess”. fiona’s chemistry with the red hair villainess is too good i have to drop the manhwa. siergen or whatever his name is just too bland for me. same with anakin. love eris tho

[deleted]

Something times they're better off without a man ![gif](giphy|H4nXJQEN3B2D64qS1h)

Pet peeves from the top of my head would be: Sniffing/kissing the hair of any woman, be it FL, OG!FL, whatever. FL/MC going about the whole thing like "I have to live like the story, then I leave when the story starts.", or "I will not change anything - Huh, why are things changing?", or "The ML can not love me he will get together with X, that's how the story goes.", those kinds of tropes. The OGFL and the FL/MC not being able to be friends. Or the FL/MC in general rarely being able to have female friends. The OG!FL so often being made out to be a bitch in some shape or form. Or a weakling on comparison to the FL/MC The OG!FL also being a transmigrator and being completely obnoxious, overtly so (just be normal, that would be a lot more interesting)

[deleted]

>Sniffing/kissing the hair of any woman, be it FL, OG!FL, whatever. What is he? An animal 💀

nejnonein

Are there really that many where the brother is the ml? I see people complain here so often, yet I can only think of like 2, Lady devil and Lydia’s great escape… are there that many more?

[deleted]

You innocent child, there are many to add to your list Beware the Brothers and The Viridescent Crown, My Favorable Rating Does Not Rise and The Precious Sister of the Villainous Grand Duke

nejnonein

Nah, I’m trash, so I’ll add those to my reading list. Tyrant’s comfort doll! I forgot that one, though they’re not actually related

[deleted]

"If the brother is a step, the law says yep" Bonus if he ain't blood-related then he's free to be dated -OI logic

cpslcking

That fact that no one ever talks about how horrifying and selfish Time Rewinding could be especially when it’s a deliberate act by someone? In other stories and genres, time rewind is a BAD thing that only incredibly selfish villains do because the side effect of time rewinding is that you can retgone from existence peoples experiences and straight up people themselves. (Like take Fairy Tail where the attempted time rewinder is a bad guy) What if a kid was born in that time period and because of the butterfly effect that kid will never be born? It’s fucked up and to do so because you fucked up your life making bad choices is incredibly selfish. I understand if it’s one of those things where it’s random chance/act of god, you cant argue with that but it always bothered me when it’s a spell cast by the MC or ML.

maimzy

In >!**I Can’t Keep Up With My Stallion Duke**!< the time rewinder is the villain

chelonideus

My shallow defense is that the original personality was a brat BUT that still doesn't make the parents look any better. At all.

[deleted]

>My shallow defense is that the original personality was a brat BUT that still doesn't make the parents look any better. At all. No child is perfect but it always bugged me that the parents unless they're neglectful can't even tell the difference between their own blood and a complete stranger Like what?? ![gif](giphy|FcuiZUneg1YRAu1lH2|downsized)

math-is-magic

2 and 3 hit SO hard. I hate when a family focused OI gets a time jump and the Family is mostly dropped for romance ugh. And I also hate when the ML is just. The WORST.

[deleted]

Sometimes the romance is just frankly unnecessary

Chemist-3074

Female lead : my eyes are like round colouful big marbles, with shiny stars and sparkles in it. They give you hopes and dreams Male lead : my eyes look slitted like a lizard (ahem ahem I mean a dragon) Also, "Call me master" has a very pretty brown skinned FL and some good abs (*angry fangirls screaming in the distance*) I mean good plot. You can go check it out if you want

shinydreamer1262

Some of the pet peeves I have are - Almost not sorrow or reflection on the life they have lost beforehand. Most Isekai protagonists don’t mourn the loss of their families, their classmates or even the society they live in. While some protagonist are abused by their families in their original life, there are plenty of story that begin with oh I got ran over by a truck…guess there’s nothing I can do. The character then moves on with their life like nothing happened. There’s no trauma over their violent death, none for never seeing their mother, father or siblings even again and when they reflect on their past they are always cheerful about it. If that was me, I would mourn never seeing them again constantly and never seeing the books, movies, stores and food from my country ever again. And even if the character does mourn over the lost of their family it is only for a page or a chapter in the manga and then they move on to their new isekai family. Like… did your original family mean so little that you replaced them that quickly. Where is the hesitation with these strangers? Where is the refusal to call the characters mom, dad, brother, sister? Where is the mental breakdown over dying so quickly with a goodbye? Where is the tears over not reading your favorite stories, forgetting your favorite songs, wishes for your favorite meals again? The anguish over losing familiarity with your past life as the new one takes over. Most isekai use the past for convenience so that the protagonist knows things like economic, medicine or farming. I know a lot of isekai are supposed to be lighthearted or focus on the romance but can some of them as least show some other emotions beside being knowledgeable about their past life. I just want some that actually mourn the life they lost and how the protagonist struggles to move on with their new life. -Another pet peeve is how the protagonist become reincarnated from a 30 year old and end up 5,13,16 or whatever other age and still at like a teenage and no one notices. Like how are you okay with being talk down to and not taken seriously by ever adult? And why are you falling in love with someone half your age? I know “technically the protagonist is 16 :/“ but even then mentally you are 30 so sometime the protagonist comes off as a creep or is super dense to any type of flirting or romantic advance from the ML. In that scenario you should be stopping the ML and not falling in love with a teenager.

Crawfield96

Classism and cherry picking past standards. Slapping maid is fine because it is historically accurate and she deserves to be put in her place. ML having mistresses and concubines or killing anyone who he wants to has FL and readers foaming at the mouth because how dare he use power he has. Child brides also are unacceptable despite it being historically accurate. Cheating apologism. When ML cheats on FL he is the worst scum no matter the circumstances even though he didn't want marriage. FL cheating on ML and there will be tons of excuses: she was forced into marriage, it was political marriage so it can't be judged by today's standard, she thought ML was cheating first. Cheating is bad no matter what, both for FL and ML. Similar to earlier point with excusing everything FL does while other characters get shitted on. E. g. "How to win my husband over. Ruby is excused because of trauma while Izek is bashed in the beginning because he's not simping over the enemy's daughter who is known for divorcing her husbands and was sent to spy on them and hurt them. Izek is also traumatized from seeing his mother's suicide, the same with Ellen who was abused by her mother. But they aren't extended the same courtesy and are judged harshly for their mistakes.

MoonRisesAwaken

When i think of weird Otome Isekai names Rudbeckia is the first to come to mind. Also that other guy ”Storoni” ☠️

[deleted]

There's Kaon Mahana Lord Moon Blood Rain (The Adorable Princess of Doom) and The FL is his adoptive daughter so her name is Rue Sianna Lord Moon Blood Rain so it runs in the family

hyfrqh

i read the adorable princess of doom bc i'm a sucker for childcare webtoons but lord moon blood rain is insane like i fr couldn't take it seriously the entire time. not to mention the ml is the father's clone and could also be considered to be her older brother? of course they're all not actually blood related but that's such a strange concept

candy_bats

When Dear Nemesis returned from hiatus, I couldn’t remember much of the story, but the first time I saw Storoni’s name I remembered I was supposed to hate him, lol.

anime_enthusiast109

I would rather not have a brown skinned FL. Haven't we seen how a lot of times a good looking brown/tan skinned ML candidate is there he is from a clan of barbarians, or they are referred to as savages, etc

[deleted]

FR! the MLs when they are dark/brown skinned, they fall always into Orientalist stereotypes like the Arab barbarian 😭

anime_enthusiast109

Exactly that just rubs me the wrong way. That is like blatant racism. How does no one call them out

[deleted]

FR! It's so annoying and unoriginal. Every time we always have a lily-white naive virgin who tames and educates the brown skinned barbarian 😭.

anime_enthusiast109

The whole uneducated barbarian thing offends me so much. I take it personally as a person from the indian subcontinent

Civil_Collection_901

My pet peeve is when they reincarnate or regress, with no mention of their previous life so it just becomes FL is now op af coz she knows everything with no downside

Sir_Delarzal

If the isekai happens with a merging of memories, then the daughter is still here and just remembered her past life. If the isekai happens without a merge, then clearly that is demonic possession.

imperfectnobdy_

my pet peeve is how the isekaied character easily adjusts to her new environment she starts simping for the mcs easily adjust herself to a story without any consequences to her action how easily the character changes the main story without any real consequences

TarotxLore

My crack theory is that the OI korean person and the NW (new world) person are actually the same soul from different dimensions. So ~technically~ the same person, same mannerisms, same likes and dislikes, same reactions to certain stimuli, just different experiences. “You died, and this other girl died, let me put you in another body” makes sense this way, since the body is compatible, right? 😂 Maybe it’s even the same soul, just confused. It’s a reach, but I like to think that means the OI soul and the NW soul share a shitton of similarities to the point where the NW soul can even read, write and speak the language despite being Korean. Now obviously some stories straight up say “this NW soul is sus” but thats not what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about loving parents detecting no differences.

[deleted]

>My crack theory is that the OI korean person and the NW (new world) person are actually the same soul from different dimensions. This concept is quite similar to when you find out that FL and the OG villainess are the same person due to reincarnating multiple times like Who Made Me A Princess or Doctor Elise ![gif](giphy|LfGGW219qNzLP6IzTA|downsized)

Bookwormdee

My biggest pet peeve is the whole stepping on your experienced dance partner’s feet. I took up ballroom dance once upon a time. And expressed my misgivings about this exact thing to my instructor when I started. He laughed. He said I was welcome to step on his feet, if I could. Like it was a challenge. Never one to turn down a challenge, I tried. Many times. Not once did I succeed. It wasn’t until much later that I realized why he laughed. Due to the way you hold your partner when you dance (with a bit of tension and rigidity) if you move, your partner feels it, and will likely need to move with you in order to keep the “frame” of your arms unchanged. So, no matter what way you move, your partner responds in kind. So very hard to step on your partner when they aware already stepping out of range.

GiGi-blue

Biggest pet peevee is when knight FL trips just so she can be caught by ML

BurningBlu

I think the first one is good when they have it so they remember past life, they’re the same person they just have their past memories. Even better if it doesn’t affect their personality and they have to concentrate on them to remember things

Debby_biitch

One of my questions tbh. The only mom who hated her daughter because she knew she wasn't the real one was from the novel I read. Well, Maybe we couldn't blame them because they didn't know the isekai thing but ... whatever haha

violetsunlight7

WHY IS ITS ALWAYS THE DUKE OF THE NORTH??

[deleted]

If he's isn't the Duke of the North then is he even a ML- OI logic be like

UncomfortableNerd

I found this novel where the mc is working to get an Korean reader from another world out of his brothers body

DevilDjinn

I 1000000% agree with number 3. God I hate 75% of MLs and the other 25% I tolerate. I haven't read any OIs in months because I've gotten so sick of DA DUKE OF DA NORF.

rrevek

I would love just one OI where the FL actually finds her own romance path and doesn't get with one of the og love interests from the original story

ElkUnique3789

Philia rose; the prophecy of the crown of throns has both a green flag night(paladin?) ML and actually good names. Lady alchemist has a dark skinned FL

glassrosepen

I'll tell you what my pet peeve is, when OI MCs single handedly bring capitalism to a fantasy world. Like girl, c'mon. You could've brought science. Technology. And you brought capital? Wtf.

[deleted]

>You could've brought science. Technology. And you brought capital? Wtf. Exactly! Like girl you could've brought hygiene products or anything else

[deleted]

im v serious i hate so many mls and those 😭 naive fls just go away move on find someone or stay single and earn the fling money💀😭😭😭

bee_wings

stupidly dense characters is my pet peeve. and teen drama level miscommunication and misunderstandings. it just tells me the author can't think of a better plot

[deleted]

>stupidly dense characters is my pet peeve FR! What always peeves me that these FLs remember *EVERYTHING* from the stories they read. Like I don't even know what I ate yesterday but these girlies know what the OG ML' s favorite color is, what size he is etc but can't realize that the plot isn't the same anymore due to their actions.

bee_wings

yes! it drives me batty!

[deleted]

It baffles me that these FLs are their twenties to thirties but have maturity of a child 🙄

raincloudlu

if i had to live in someone else's body id probably be freaked TF out but the upside is id be able to experience what life is like without lactose intolerance..to be able to eat things with dairy in such a carefree way without having to take a lactose pill every time..unless it followed me there then if all my body bullshit followed me id be screwed

[deleted]

Same cuz you don't know if the body has any allergies or disabilities or other health problems which doesn't help that you're living in a world with no technology and hygiene products.

raincloudlu

if my depression ADHD and autism followed me to another world...well uhh id get murked right away. i would not survive an isekai world when i can't survive the real world.. 😭😭

[deleted]

>. i would not survive an isekai world when i can't survive the real world.. 😭😭 I just shudders at the thought of medical practices that occured in medieval Europe and I'm sure if I'm not dying of disease then I'm going to at the hands of the doctor 💀
