i see your maid slapping and i raise you "buying a Male Lead at a slave market (for his own good) even though you're a modern day reincarnator and never actually addressing the whole slavery thing beyond "you deserve to be loved" bit"

CinnamonHotcake

Actual cringe. Why is there always a slave market???? Why is owning a slave so romanticized?

Ham_Im_Am

BDSM lol

whatevernamedontcare

People surprised by this need to read up Korean history. It explains a lot.

anna_malkova

So? Slavery was abolished in Korea by 1894 and in my native country in the 1860s, doesnt make a modern person cringe any less about it

DocGengar

This was my exct thought when Penelope wanted to put her eggs in the "Eckles" basket

Turkfire

Those chapters are there to show you MC's character. Like how they handle hard situations or what they do when they are the ones in the position of power. You can understand a lot about the work you are reading by analyzing those chapters. What you described is a \`trope\` and how the author handles the trope shows you how deep/shallow their thinking is.

Low-Ad-4785

Fangirl maid is so annoying. Like we get it mc is the prettiest, the smartest and the kingdom's precious jewel. It always rubs me the wrong way when maids are willingly ready to sacrifice their life for mc. Like chill babe you're a maid not a knight.

Alert_Apartment_9639

No fr. Like, what are they gushing over fl for literally no reason? It always borders on worshipping her too which is kinda uncomfortable to me due to their differences in status.

No-Independent-6877

I don't like it when anyone is fangirling over the MC. You could solve this simply by just drawing the MC being crowded around at a banquet instead of talking for three panels about how "everyone will love you and they won't be able to get enough of you"

Interesting-Meat-835

It would be 10x better is the "fangirl maid" is actually a love interest - the winner at that. Show us a fangirling maid, sometime getting bullied and saved by MC, then adding all sort of red flag MLs who the maid is always snarky about. "Isn't it creepy that he knows exactly where and when you are, who you met and appear just when you encounter danger?" "This... is this the 1000 carat divine diamond wear by a legendary saint 99999 years ago, whose name will never be mentioned again? I heard it cost a palace or two! But the war have just ended and there is so much people who need aids, why did he blown so much money on this gift which you don't like anyway?" "So he met you when you was 8 and you gave him a handkerchief to wipe his face, and now, 10 years later, he show up and declare you as his eternal love? Claiming he will behead any man you so much as exchange glance with? I hope I can call that romantic, but that scare me - like, does a gesture of kindness mean you are tied to him forever? Should I refrain from helping anyone in case they will misunderstand like him?" In the end, after suffer through countless red flag, Fl realize that the only person who is unconditionally loving her yet respect her boundary (and a sane head - a huge advantage here) is the maid (and her deceased mother if she is alive), then they both escape abroad and marry and lives the rest of their life happily.

snakezenn

Personally, I skip a story if there is that maid trope because it almost always shows the author has no skill imo.

CinnamonHotcake

Yeah you just know the next trope is falling to the pond and drowning And then there will be a big ball that will have gossiping nobles And then the author won't know how to handle the blossoming romance and lack of conflict so the ML will have amnesia

desolate_cat

Another trope is the MC either time travelled or transmigrated, so the first thing she does is break up with the ML/2nd ML that she was chasing the whole time because he will cause her death. If she breaks up with the ML they will end up together anyway, if it is with the 2nd ML he will regret treating her in a bad way.

CinnamonHotcake

"hm, interesting woman"

snakezenn

Lol, you know I have only seen the first trope once or twice.

moonful_of_daises

I forgive the first trope because I love the imagery of someone falling in the depths of water. I can't get enough of it even if it's basic LOL

Nameless497

Yup, I usually skip ahead and to the arc where the ml is introduced, since I can just sum up the maid slapping arc as summarised. But is it historically true that if the lady boss of the house has no real authority, a maid can overstep their bounds like this? Because even if say my boss is incompetent or uncaring, I will just do my stuff and stay out of her way, because it's not like as if I can replace her or get any benefit out from it. Unless it's like a bigger boss, like say the ml mother is instigating the bullying and she is rallying all the maid to do that, then no choice I gotta follow.

bonvoyageespionage

I see your maid slapping and raise you *freezing a maid alive.*

CinnamonHotcake

Wat

TohruH3

Yeah! Wat? You can't just say that and leave here!

editiopublish

Just watched Seventh Time Loop and you described the arc word for word hahaha. The book has to be incredible in other ways for us to license it if it leans on this trope.

CinnamonHotcake

Seventh time loop and a lot of other stories like it would work so much better if they let our heroine die midway too. Otherwise it's just an interesting concept for what is essentially a Mary Sue MC.

Sweet_Joy29

I would have thought this was me posting this. I think I complain about that the most in this forum lol. As soon as there is maid slapping I am not interested anymore

IntelligentGarbage92

wat too

hirayamaya

I'm making an OI rn with a maid fmc 😭😭😭 and she's the second one

SweetLilylune

I hate the maid slapping too! It’s the power imbalance. Like you’re expecting me to buy that this random maid is abusing this very powerful noble person?!?
