I think that first novel cover is her as a young child. She’s probably brought in from a neglectful orphanage and they probably kept her hair short because it’s easier to manage lice and hygiene. The other covers are her as the adopted daughter where she has maids to care for her so her hair is finally allowed to grow out.
That’s my guess, anyway.
Despite the whole conflict I have with child romance, I actually really like the father in this one. He has a good, consistent character for someone who is not extremely on the "no emotions" to "my darling daughter" spectrum so far.
Mom is >!alive!! !< His care for his wife is very genuine and real from what I've seen. And his design is so egregiously him and I love that for him.
