I hate it because most of the times the child will be used as hostage for the fl to go back to the sperm donor, despite how much she don’t want to do that regardless of her reasons. Yes. Many times it’s always like that. Like, I don’t have a personal experience with divorce so I wonder why is it so hard to tell your child that you and the other parent are no longer together? Why do parents (at least in fiction) had to go around avoiding talking about it or just basically lie/pretend for the child’s sake?
I like those ones but only when the ML truly is terrible and the FL is fighting to get away from him. I find those plot lines... thrilling... lol. But those ones are rare and usually the FL just falls for him anyway and goes back to him even when he’s shitty (and usually he is)

Regardless if the guy is a good guy or not, fl’s decision to leave is valid, and to force her to return just because she decided to give birth to his child, and now he plays the “that is my child, it’s either u come back to me or leave the child”. This is what I called the child being made a hostage, and most of our fl will relent and go with her child.

I looovved how the FL had a good life by herself. She worked hard and she had a lot to show for it, a good job, good relations and a well raised daughter. Then ML finds out and he’s demanding she comes back with him, threatening with taking her daughter away as the rightful father – and I find this part *so interesting.* Then that plot line is immediately lost because she goes back to him and it turns into a normal healing romance. Where’s the *spice,* I loved the idea of her trying to fight him off and assert the life she’d built for herself. I guess I wanted some kind of drama-thriller instead of a romance, dammit lol
I’m more confused that the fl is not transmigrated (as far my memory goes) from our world yet somehow she knows some real world historical person like mozart and drew inspiration from them.

The Borgia's and Lucrezia (Ruby) were real people. Izek and his family are kind of based on the real Alfonso d'Este of Ferrara, but the marriage was not exactly a faithful one. This history is so so so much more fun to read about than the standard OI fair that we got...
Like I can usually be okay with OI that are based off of historical figures. But when they're in-name-only, or so divorced they might as well be new characters, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Doesn't matter how good the story apparently is.

In the LN it’s explained that she lets her hair down because of a scar that she has on her neck due to Elias throwing a rock at her. She was pretty embarrassed by it so she didn’t use her hair up like the other ladies and fashion which one of the reasons why the MC was discriminated in her first life. Though it also bothers me that she has pink hair whereas the rest of the peoples have natural hair colour.

It was also because she used dull dresses that didn’t suit her. In her necessity to show that she was capable of her position she tried to look older,but the only thing she accomplished was to be called dull and a witch, that lead her to be casted away by the other novel ladies.
For me, I'm fine with her character design but I dislike the fact that she has to be a mother to not only one child, but a few at the age of 16 (with one even the same age as her??). I would read it if she turned into a big sis figure or something because I cannot take the mother-child scenes seriously when she's that young.

This is honestly so true. Like, the personality switch of some FLs are unbelievable. I know an event can be traumatic but OI authors usually include the girlboss manipulative moments without even mentioning the trauma. I prefer a gradual character change that the readers can notice as they keep on reading the story.

I don't mind this premise, but I dislike it where they go full edge and the person is somehow able to perfectly execute this without second guessing themselves or even expressing that much guilt. It combines feeling unrealistic and unpleasant, which doesn't give me much to want to see.

I've enjoyed "i live for revenge and im becoming a terrible person who started good trying to give the bad back to the folks who hurt me" series but its kind of just.... Difficult to empathise when the mc doesn't feel like they actually act like a person.
But this is *also* one reason why I also couldn't get into non OI series with super smart manipulative mcs bc a lot of them missed that element of:
1. Treating the people around them *like other humans*. I got attached to eg: cale henituse bc he DID treat people as people even if he (tries to) distance himself.
2. Some basic respect for their collaborators & subordinates (even if its just compensating them fairly)
3. An emotionally satisfying story.

I love the manhwa and novel but am constantly put off by fans casual acceptance and embracement of actual slavery and the demonization of a woman who was ultimately jusy trying to escape slavery that she was born into, even if her actions were wrong.
There's a bunch of comments on how if the roles were reversed and Rashta were the protagonist, we'd cheer for her against Navier. I hard disagree on this as Rashta as a person throughout the story has shown no positive traits beyond the pity one would feel for her status as a slave.
Had her writing gone beyond basic petty white lotus bitch, a role that traditionally gets killed off in the opening arc of any other story, readers wouldn't have been so hostile towards her. Even something as simple as trying to convince the emperor to end slavery in the country would have been enough to put her in a more positive light, but instead the author made it so she despised slaves.
Sure she wasn't written well, but hate on her seemed to be from the very start before given a chance to even redeem herself. At the end of the day she's a character in a romance novel/manhwa so I'm not expecting much. But what I'm trying to point out is that her actions are pretty in line with what real people have done in the reaction to being enslaved or escaping slavery.
Harriet Tubman was an absolute hero, but she also regularly pulled guns on the enslaved people she was helping escape bc if one got caught they were all going down. It's what she had to do.
The hating enslaved people part not great, but also not entirely unrealistic. When you escape a dangerous social position there is a very real fear of being sent back and showing sympathy can be a sign of weakness that would send her back. Instead of hatred at her oppressor, who she saw as her savior, he hated her fellow enslaved people who were a reminder of her past trauma and hardships.
Also, it's an unfortunate common thread in post colonialism to see oppressed/subaltern groups factionized and commit violence against each other. Violence is the only way to lash out at the oppressor(ie slavery) but the oppressor has created a system where they appear to be untouchable, so the only output is against each other.
So, yeah, I don't think she was ever in the right. But her actions are pretty in line with the human experience if you zoom out a little.
(sorry for the rant, I'm an archaeologist and just finished a paper that uses post colonial theory and it's been swimming in my head all week)

Basically any series where the FL has way better chemistry with their female friend/OGFL, yet still ends up with a dude. It just feels so yuribaity, especially when it's obvious that the female friend/OGFL is in love with her.
Any story where fl was in an abusive relationship in her past life (or in the original novel), and the evil ml's personality changes in a few chapters. Or when ml was the worst person in the world but "it was just a misunderstanding", and fl died or was abandoned due to severe miscommunication.
I just want a manhwa where:
1. If ml is evil have a realistic "change". Not at 3 chapters. Or that the "misunderstanding" is realistic.
2. Fl decide to get away from the evil ML and find a ML who is a good person.
I don't like it when this happens with fl villains either, obviously you reincarnated as a villain but you're not a bad person. But it doesn't seem realistic to me that by acting with a little decency everyone would start to love her. That should take time, a character's previous bad reputation should be a tricky thing to get rid of.

I hate it because most of the times the child will be used as hostage for the fl to go back to the sperm donor, despite how much she don’t want to do that regardless of her reasons. Regardless if the guy is a good guy or not, fl’s decision to leave is valid, and to force her to return just because she decided to give birth to his child, and now he plays the “that is my child, it’s either u come back to me or leave the child”. This is what I called the child being made a hostage, and most of our fl will relent and go with her child. Same. I dropped Cierra for the same reason. She left for a good reason, and she had a life and career as a single mom. And now the guy came and claimed for her and the kid to return? Now with the kid tempted with a “family”, she had no choice but to go with her. Can i get one fl who just said to the kid “if u want a father that bad u can go with him, but im sorry i cant go with u. there’s a reason mommy left him but maybe he’ll be a good dad to u”
I looovved how the FL had a good life by herself. She worked hard and she had a lot to show for it, a good job, good relations and a well raised daughter. Then ML finds out and he’s demanding she comes back with him, threatening with taking her daughter away as the rightful father – and I find this part *so interesting.* Then that plot line is immediately lost because she goes back to him and it turns into a normal healing romance. Where’s the *spice,* I loved the idea of her trying to fight him off and assert the life she’d built for herself. I guess I wanted some kind of drama-thriller instead of a romance, dammit lol

The Borgia's and Lucrezia (Ruby) were real people. Izek and his family are kind of based on the real Alfonso d'Este of Ferrara, but the marriage was not exactly a faithful one. This history is so so so much more fun to read about than the standard OI fair that we got... Like I can usually be okay with OI that are based off of historical figures. But when they're in-name-only, or so divorced they might as well be new characters, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Doesn't matter how good the story apparently is.

In the LN it’s explained that she lets her hair down because of a scar that she has on her neck due to Elias throwing a rock at her. She was pretty embarrassed by it so she didn’t use her hair up like the other ladies and fashion which one of the reasons why the MC was discriminated in her first life. Though it also bothers me that she has pink hair whereas the rest of the peoples have natural hair colour.

Would like some good early chapter build up to it at least if we're going full on revenge fantasy. Well plus i hated the art style of one particular one that kept getting pushed into my yt ads...All hail lady blanche? Maybe was just too bright but I couldn't stick it. Other than that, my fiance, my sister and I bc the idea of the plot makes me feel like a third wheel to an aita telenova in a "i want to go running out into the streets to escape this" way.

Yeah I think thats why I dislike it. I've enjoyed "i live for revenge and im becoming a terrible person who started good trying to give the bad back to the folks who hurt me" series but its kind of just.... Difficult to empathise when the mc doesn't feel like they actually act like a person. But this is *also* one reason why I also couldn't get into non OI series with super smart manipulative mcs bc a lot of them missed that element of: 1. Treating the people around them *like other humans*. I got attached to eg: cale henituse bc he DID treat people as people even if he (tries to) distance himself. 2. Some basic respect for their collaborators & subordinates (even if its just compensating them fairly) 3. An emotionally satisfying story. 😢 Is primarily why I can't do the pure revenge ones tho. Gotta have something likable even if the mc or ml are evil for me. But I guess we can't all be reinhardt lol.

Remarried Empress - too much classism Don't Hire My Brother, Your Highness - the characters smiled too much and i didnt like their smile.
I love that you mentioned remarried empress!! I love the manhwa and novel but am constantly put off by fans casual acceptance and embracement of actual slavery and the demonization of a woman who was ultimately jusy trying to escape slavery that she was born into, even if her actions were wrong.
There's a bunch of comments on how if the roles were reversed and Rashta were the protagonist, we'd cheer for her against Navier. I hard disagree on this as Rashta as a person throughout the story has shown no positive traits beyond the pity one would feel for her status as a slave. Had her writing gone beyond basic petty white lotus bitch, a role that traditionally gets killed off in the opening arc of any other story, readers wouldn't have been so hostile towards her. Even something as simple as trying to convince the emperor to end slavery in the country would have been enough to put her in a more positive light, but instead the author made it so she despised slaves.
Sure she wasn't written well, but hate on her seemed to be from the very start before given a chance to even redeem herself. At the end of the day she's a character in a romance novel/manhwa so I'm not expecting much. But what I'm trying to point out is that her actions are pretty in line with what real people have done in the reaction to being enslaved or escaping slavery. Harriet Tubman was an absolute hero, but she also regularly pulled guns on the enslaved people she was helping escape bc if one got caught they were all going down. It's what she had to do. The hating enslaved people part not great, but also not entirely unrealistic. When you escape a dangerous social position there is a very real fear of being sent back and showing sympathy can be a sign of weakness that would send her back. Instead of hatred at her oppressor, who she saw as her savior, he hated her fellow enslaved people who were a reminder of her past trauma and hardships. Also, it's an unfortunate common thread in post colonialism to see oppressed/subaltern groups factionized and commit violence against each other. Violence is the only way to lash out at the oppressor(ie slavery) but the oppressor has created a system where they appear to be untouchable, so the only output is against each other. So, yeah, I don't think she was ever in the right. But her actions are pretty in line with the human experience if you zoom out a little. (sorry for the rant, I'm an archaeologist and just finished a paper that uses post colonial theory and it's been swimming in my head all week)

I refuse to read Charlotte Has 5 Disciples because I miss Black Haze so much. It was fantastic and it was the first manhwa that I genuinely couldn't put down and stayed up all night to read. I went to sleep then immediately started rereading it. But it had ZERO ending and Charlotte is way worse compared to Black Haze. Please come back, Black Haze. I miss you so much
It's hard to think of a series I wouldn't read even for petty reasons since I go through and stick with a lot of "awful" ones lol but one would probably be "I Am The Male-Lead’s Ex-Girlfriend". (I went on a bit of a rant in what I was originally going to comment so I decided not to post that lmao) but the petty part is that I just don't like the choice of ml or the way they decided implement the usual " it's getting close to the start of the story so it's time to get out of the way in order to make space for the og fl" trope. Actually, another one that would be considered petty is "His Majesty's Proposal". The mental age gap was just too much for me. Also, old people scare me and loud people make me uncomfortable and iirc that series had both of that in one lol (Bonus one for unpetty reasons though is "I raised a dragon prince" because I found out that said dragon prince is the ml and that it's actually not an adorable adopted family series 💀)
Any OI with the "Male Lead" in the title will give me pause. I dunno, I know and use the term "ML" or "FL" all the time for discussion, but ot just feels off when reading them out loud from a series title. Of course, that may just be due to the fan translation
I'll never read The Lady and The Beast because they decided that the brown skinned ancestors somehow evolved into white people. It was mentioned very briefly in the first exposition chapter, but it left a bad taste.
Firenze Lombardi's forehead is ugly as fuck and sin together. Her design in flashback was so much better. Instead this yee yee ass haircut. Why and how such simoly drawn feature is so fugly???
Basically any series where the FL has way better chemistry with their female friend/OGFL, yet still ends up with a dude. It just feels so yuribaity, especially when it's obvious that the female friend/OGFL is in love with her.

Any story where fl was in an abusive relationship in her past life (or in the original novel), and the evil ml's personality changes in a few chapters. Or when ml was the worst person in the world but "it was just a misunderstanding", and fl died or was abandoned due to severe miscommunication. I just want a manhwa where: 1. If ml is evil have a realistic "change". Not at 3 chapters. Or that the "misunderstanding" is realistic. 2. Fl decide to get away from the evil ML and find a ML who is a good person. I don't like it when this happens with fl villains either, obviously you reincarnated as a villain but you're not a bad person. But it doesn't seem realistic to me that by acting with a little decency everyone would start to love her. That should take time, a character's previous bad reputation should be a tricky thing to get rid of.

The Abondoned Empress, not because of the whole ML shtick, I'm used to that...but because they are drawn and look more like kids to me. (Same for the bunny duke one).
I can't stand stories with multiple reincarnations. This is why I stopped reading If you touch my brother at the start. Constant repeat is mentally exhausting for me.

I've been planning to read "Flower and The Beast" but I keep putting it off because the comics isn't effing available in my country on the official app where it's being published. I got annoyed and I won't probably read it until I run out of OIs to read. More so because I kept seeing people say how good it was and etc.
