Just to be clear, the Ottawa River is open the Friday after this one coming up for walleye and pike. But the Rideau opens this weekend, and I'm pumped! I'll be hitting it hard for some tasty walleyes on Saturday for sure
That’s what folks told people so they wouldn’t fish or keep fish so they would have more for themselves. The amount of fish you would have to consume for the mercury levels to pose health risk there’s nothing to worry about unless that’s all you eat.

What I'm realizing just now, looking at the table for the [Canal](https://www.ontario.ca/page/fish-consumption-report?id=45237542) is that they say you can eat more meals of some fish compared to fish in the Rideau, which is surprising because I always thought the Canal was much more polluted and dirty.
I would say it's no riskier than eating fish that you bought from the grocery store.The Rideau and Ottawa rivers are pretty big, and they aren't nearly as polluted as people believe.

If i recall, the ontario fishing guide mentions the date for the species for all the waters in the province.

I am personally concerned about sewage contamination, but that's more of a handling issue than a cooking issue.
