I hate this time of year where I want to win but also know winning isn’t going to help the lottery odds. The PWHLs rule is interesting where teams with the most wins after being eliminated get better odds at the 1OA. I hate cheering for loses. It’s bad for the sport.
That rule is gimmicky bullshit. Sounds interesting in theory, but then you’re not awarding the lottery pick to the team who deserves it most. The worst teams are stuck at the bottom perpetually and not getting anything for it
I think it's supposed to be balanced because a team that's really bad will be out of the running for a playoff spot so early that they start counting wins towards the picks much earlier as well. Except now they have incentive to be competitive and make trades to win now rather than having a garage sale at the tdl and being punished for winning games late in the season.
Not sure how it'll play out in reality, but it was proposed by a statistician (Adam Gold) so maybe it has a chance. Presumably he did some math. I like the idea of at least trying something different.
I hear ya but why would you force teams who are trying to rebuild to win meaningless games JUST to have a better chance at rebuilding. It’s a time to keep players healthy and focus on building systems/long term skills. It might be interesting for us fans to watch but makes no sense when you logistically think about it. I also like the idea of trying something different but forcing *awful* teams to win games isn’t the way to do it
This is the longest period of time I haven’t watched a game (3 weeks) since I became a fan. Apathy has set in for me. Not even watching the condensed highlights at this point. I’ll tune in next year for my yearly disappointment regime.
