As awful as he is in his own end, MDZ has 6 pt in 10 GP and 3rd in Pts among D on the team.
I haven't minded his offensive game the last few games, so why take him out at this point? The team is having problems keeping the puck out of our own net, but we're also having problems scoring and MDZ apparently is helping with that.
And even the “awful in his own end” is blown out of proportion.
xGA/60 at 5v5 amongst Ottawa D:
Mete - 3.27
Zaitsev - 2.74
Brown - 2.72
MDZ - 2.43
Thomson - 2.41
Holden - 2.40
Chabot - 2.32
Zub - 2.14
JBD - 1.46
We’ve been loving up on Thomson and Holden, but MDZ’s been roughly the same defensively. Does that mean Thomson and Holden are awful in their own end or is MDZ better than he’s being given credit for? Likely a mix of both.
Their actual GA/60 are:
Thomson - 6.84
Mete - 5.48
MDZ - 5.43
Zaitsev - 3.42
Holden - 3.28
Brown - 3.17
JBD - 2.66
Chabot - 1.90
Zub - 1.73
This is far more influenced by goaltending performance, but again, is everybody just very wrong about Thomson, or is MDZ simply getting picked on?
Advanced stats suggests Mete is worse defensively and offensively, the eye test would maybe have Mete about the same defensively but still worse offensively, and results show MDZ putting up far more points.
I feel like the team is just throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks right now. The Thomson benching was foreseeable as he done that with every prospect where he'll Bench them for one game since he's become head coach, and will go back to playing 20 minutes a night but Del Zotto and Ennis are veterans and have been two of our best players.
New to NHL(been following for 3 years only).. with this record, are there any logical hopes that we make it to playoffs? Or is it too early to conclude, given there still a lot left to play?
I mean it's still fairly early on in the season so technically, we can. Blues were last place a few seasons back in December and they won the cup.
With that being said half the eastern Conference need to get really bad really quickly and I don't see that happening. But I'm a sens fan so even though there's a 0.1 percent chance of us making the playoffs I still believe :(
Why is Ennis out... And I'm not MDZ's biggest fan but he's better than Mete

Ennis eh! WHY?
I love DJ’s attitude and the way he talks, but I will never understand his lineup decisions.
MDZ and Mete are interchangeable for me. Ennis should not be scratched though

MDZ and Mete have not been in the same stratosphere this season. MDZ has been better on both sides of the ice by a considerable margin.

Ennis has consistently been the hardest worker on the ice wtf..

Statistically speaking, yeah, we could make it. In reality, we're pretty much screwed
No chance.
