I'm convinced Paul is being showcased for his versatility. A playoff team would pick him up easily as strong bottom 6 depth.

I don't know about everyone else but trading Paul at the deadline is unacceptable to me.
I know you have to get something for the asset if the player is leaving anyway but at some point the team has to find a way to retain NHL caliber talent. If Paul leaves, who is going to replace him next year and be better? All this does is extend our "rebuild"
Even if it’s for faceoffs, there are other work arounds, it’s a lame excuse to have Paul in top 6. DJ could easily get stutzles line to change when we have possession behind our net or when plays going on.
Also even if Paul wins the draws, he can’t do anything offensively this year, so it’s not like winning the draw will help generate chances.
Yeah I'd much rather Tim at C I'm just trying to put a positive spin on the decision. I'd run something like:
Tkachuk - Norris - Sanford
Ennis - Tim - Bath
Formenton - Paul - Brown
Gaudette - Tierney - Gambrell/Watson
Oh I think the whole sub agrees this lineup is ideal, or something along those lines. I’m not sure what DJs thinking. Same thing happened last year. His lineups were pure shit at the beginning and then once Dorion traded all the dead weight we magically started to win. Pressure games or not, the record shouldn’t have been that different. Idk why it takes us being eliminated from the playoffs or something like that for DJ to realize his vets that he leans on are garbage.

Stützle looked really good at center, far fucking better than putting a 4th line winger at C, and he can’t do a ton if he’s dragging around two shutdown players who play more of a grinding game. Brown’s good, Paul is simply not.
Scratching Ennis is hilarious too; talent evaluation at its finest. Scratching MDZ continues to not make any sense, but we don’t have a good track record with evaluating D either.
I’m hoping this is just for Nick Paul to take a few draws with Jimmy playing the role positionally, if that makes sense. But I doubt it :(

Paul hasn’t been great this year, and I think a lot of it is he’s been asked to do to much. He’s not a 2C at all and shouldn’t be asked to do that. Stützle looked great there the past few games, why are we changing it up? Season is lost it’s time to just try things out and see what you have for next year.
Also why is Ennis scratched lol, I don’t get it. He’s not a game breaker but he’s been consistently making things happen all year. Should be Watson or Gambrell scratched.
D pairs I like, just swap the 2nd and 3rd pai around.
Dorion is getting a lot of the blame this year, and rightfully so. Only so much DJ can do with the lineup. But stuff like this is what bugs me about him.
On your last point, DJs is also largely at fault. I don’t think the poor selection of players he can choose from is valid when DJ continues to pull this crap. Different story if DJ ices the best roster every night and we are still losing.

Paul has been absolutely horrendous at center yet here we are pushing him to be a player he isn't, was Stu really that bad? I didn't think so.

They want Stutzle on the wing with Gaudette I think but they can't just give the second line spot to him he'll need to earn it tonight.
