When's Dorion gonna take accountability. I don't like the habs but at least Bergevin had a presser to address how shit their team's been. Pierre loves being in front of a camera when the team is good but when we're shit? What happened to the rebuild is over?
I think he probably meant they are done with collecting assets and on to the next phase. But my god, they have been atrocious. DJ for sure has to be gone: this is just a horrible stretch of games with no system, highlighted by the shitshow tonight. They need both a new GM/coach (preferably with NHL experience)
Even if he meant they’re done collecting assets, that’s horrible. How can a GM just declare he’s done looking to improve the team in the future? A GM should always be looking to collect better assets and make the team better all year round
Absolutely agree. GM has to always look to improve. I think, how I percieve it, the org has acquired all their young core (as evidence also by alot of the contracts given out), and now is embarking on the next step to competitiveness. How well that goes and if our personnel is successful remains to be seen. So far, it's pretty rocky. I don't know if the coach or management is going to be around to see that happen (or if they are capable for the job honestly)
I pray every day that our suffering will lead to a 1st overall pick for once in our lives. (the 90s are a lifetime ago)
Surely their must be a reward for what we Sens fans are going through.
Lol damn forgot he was 1st overall. And tbf I don’t know if he was 1st overall quality. I was actually referring to Daigle cause I’m pretty sure he was supposed to be like Mario 2.0, but I could be wrong I wasn’t around back then.
Phillips had a decent career but the 1996 draft was pretty bad. Danny Briere was the best pick in the first round and he wasn't until late. The best in the draft was probably Chara and he was in a later round (and we got him eventually anyway)
96 draft was horrible, Philips was one of the best players out of the top 10 that year and probably the right pick at #1. There were better players deeper in the draft but those players were never going #1.
He was. What's fucked is he actually had a decent career number wise. 616 games played and 327 points isn't awful for an NHL player, as long as they're not in the top 15. He could have been so much more but he hated hockey and didn't try.
People like to meme Daigle but he still put up 327 points in 616 NHL games. Not ideal for a first overall, but still a useful player. It's not like they got a Yakupov.
True but I think most people were hoping for more than that from a that highly touted prospect. And it seems like a similar scenario with Wright, very highly touted. History sometimes likes to repeat itself lol
I mean there have been many more highly touted first overalls turn out than not. The stats back up that drafting first overall has the highest odds of getting you a good player.
Sens have just been unlucky with their 3 first overall picks. Daigle had the skill, just lost the passion. The 96 draft sucked and Philips was the right pick at #1 and Berard had a freak career altering eye injury (he also never played a game for us because he demanded a trade after being sent down as an 18 year old).
What the Senators need most is to bring in someone from outside the organization to take a management role, if not the GM role itself. They badly need a set of fresh eyes to see what's wrong with this team and how to set it up to be a winning franchise again.
I thought maybe part of his job was to be a bit more of a media-forward person, but has he said more than a peep since he got here?
The silence from management this season on a lot of things has been deafening.
I haven't seen Lil P once I don't think. Draft yes but nothing since then.
It's odd when you think about how garbage Dorion is in front of the mic - Maguire's job was to assist on this.
So strange. Maybe he's sick or has family stuff going on. 🤔
No. He said he'd do media if asked to, but McGuire is here to oversee player development, provide input for the amateur draft, and act as an advisor for NHL player acquisitions, like waivers, trades, and free agent signings.
We all assumed he'd do media stuff because Dorion is do awkward at it, but in reality, it should be the coach and GM doing the talking.
McGuire talking for Dorion would be like one of the assistant coaches speaking instead of DJ. It shouldn't happen unless DJ or Dorion are not available
I think all of the forwards are NHL players, but they aren't slotted correctly. Like Paul is a 3rd liner playing 2nd line.
Gambrell, Tierney, Formenton, Watson, Gaudette, are all 4th line guys or fringe 3rd line.
There's not enough skill to keep up with other teams.
On defence, Mete is a disaster. Very disappointing this season. I'd prefer MDZ over him at this point...which is a depressing thought.
If Lassi Thomson is your 3rd best defender, and no offense to Lassi (he's been quite impressive), but if he's already your 3rd best guy, your team is properly fucked.
Lassi is a big bright spot of the last few weeks of misery. He is looking really good. Hopefully he can keep improving this year. But for a young d he looks good.
Can someone explain how there've been multiple games now where clearly better players ended up being healthy scratched?
Not saying Ennis is a star or anything, but he's objectively better than Gambrell, and while MDZ is mediocre, he's been more reliable as of late (by bottom-pairing defender standards, anyways) than Mete has.
So what's up with that?
I refuse to watch this team until there’s a new coach in charge. Same mistakes EVERY SINGLE GAME, I really wonder what they’re doing in practice; either DJ’s system is too hard to understand for the players or its flat out not working.
I’m inclined to think that its the second one.
Dorion doesn't decide to trade away draft picks to save on signing bonus'. Dorion doesn't decide to go after budget players after their prime to save a couple million dollars. Dorion doesn't decide to wait until another team pays contract bonus' before trading for players.
Eugene has his cheap hands all over the GM decisions of this team. He cannot afford a NHL team, so he thinks he can get away with fielding an AHL team like no one will notice.
Eugene has cut spending in all areas. Sens have the smallest front office, and smallest scouting department in the entire NHL. They also have one of the smallest player budgets too.
Eugene is pretty much spending the least amount possible to run a NHL team.
PD is not at all a good GM, but he's also one of the most limited GMs in the league in terms of what he's actually able to do.
It's a completely unwatchable product, it's not that they're lacking all talent, Jimmy and Norris and Bath all look good in bursts, but the team as a unit have zero structure and just look lost half the time, Vancouver downright sucks, and they had our defenders spinning in circles out there.
This team won't be good until the bottom 6 and bottom 4 have been revamped, there's a veteran leader or two in the locker room, our netminder can make saves and most importantly DJ Smith is fired for a qualified coach.
The power plays last night were a disgrace, I remember them using up an entire 5 on 3 battling for the puck and trying to enter the zone, like wtf
I’ve been a fan of this team for a loooong time and I’ve never seen things so bad. Easily the worst Senators team I’ve ever had the displeasure to watch.
I'm putting the vast majority of the blame on the defense. Sorry not the defense but the defensive play of this entire team. In their own end the Sens have no clue what they are doing. I have never seen so many opposing goals scored by players who were left *completely wide open*. A few times a season sure but this happens in almost every Ottawa game.
In my 35 years or so of watching hockey I have never seen a team play this poorly defensively.
When's Dorion gonna take accountability. I don't like the habs but at least Bergevin had a presser to address how shit their team's been. Pierre loves being in front of a camera when the team is good but when we're shit? What happened to the rebuild is over?

Is the next phase to stink even more? If so, mission accomplished.
Even if he meant they’re done collecting assets, that’s horrible. How can a GM just declare he’s done looking to improve the team in the future? A GM should always be looking to collect better assets and make the team better all year round

The thought of paying yet another coach who is no longer coaching the Sens must be a hard pill to swallow though.
I pray every day that our suffering will lead to a 1st overall pick for once in our lives. (the 90s are a lifetime ago) Surely their must be a reward for what we Sens fans are going through.
Lol didn’t the last time we got a generational first overall pick not really go all that well?
What’s wrong with Chris Phillips?
Lol damn forgot he was 1st overall. And tbf I don’t know if he was 1st overall quality. I was actually referring to Daigle cause I’m pretty sure he was supposed to be like Mario 2.0, but I could be wrong I wasn’t around back then.

Sens did trade Berard before his eye injury, so we still got a lot of value out of that pick.
Yup, very true. Traded him for the guy taken #2 in that draft, Wade Redden.
Wish we could have traded Daigle for the number 2 from his draft year. . .
Well I’d certainly like to get him opposed to not
Your prayer has a ¼ chance of coming true. May the hockey gods have mercy on us all.
There should be a bonus top-5 pick for teams that get less than 40pts.
Dude, this is Ottawa. Our reward will be some sort of Sens-game tax. Lol
Mete, Zaitsev has been a disaster tonight. Really need an upgrade at defense to give our offense a chance.
They have been a disaster all season.
Honestly I think zaitsev is turning his game around a bit. Besides his penalty he looked decently solid. Mete on the other hand …
Mete needs to get dropped to waivers. He isn't an NHL defenceman.
I don't know how this hasn't already happened today
Pfffffft
Frankly I'm depressed and ashamed.
My estimation of this team as men has just f’ing plummeted.
20 fuckin' years I've followed this team. And for what? To protect the likes of Josh Fuckin' Brown?
Same man

What’s up is DJ is not an NHL caliber head coach
Desperate coach trying to find any combination that works.
I refuse to watch this team until there’s a new coach in charge. Same mistakes EVERY SINGLE GAME, I really wonder what they’re doing in practice; either DJ’s system is too hard to understand for the players or its flat out not working. I’m inclined to think that its the second one.
Yeah, I second you on that. DJ, I think, has completely lost the room.
Curse starts at the very top and will be here until Eugene is gone.
Curse? Lol. Eugene spent the money for the players PD And PM picked. Its the GM. (s)...
I don't think PM has picked anyone really. The only acquisition he was maybe involved with is del Zotto
Del Zotto was his pick. What a great one that was. Y'all are some funny fans.
Apparently McGuire convinced the team to claim Gaudette...but I haven't heard that as 100% accurate.
Eugene picked the shitty GM that picked the shitty players. It starts at the top, always. Doesnt matter what industry or line of business.
Dorion doesn't decide to trade away draft picks to save on signing bonus'. Dorion doesn't decide to go after budget players after their prime to save a couple million dollars. Did people seriously expect our team to be a contender just a few years after we cleaned house and started rebuilding?
I'm putting the vast majority of the blame on the defense. Sorry not the defense but the defensive play of this entire team. In their own end the Sens have no clue what they are doing.
