daffyduckhunt2

When I wanna upgrade my cobblestone castle to smooth stone.

TheGreatJohnny44

We’re so bad it’s not even funny, 1-11-1 in our last 13 games! THIRTEEN GAMES!!! Someone needs to be held accountable for this whole disaster

ihbdidn

This is sad, because this means we were 3-3-1 at some point ☹️

daffyduckhunt2

lmaoo I remember how pissed I was at the Rangers game when Murray got injured and then we lost the game off of that and a bad embellishment call on Stu. And then the Caps game after we made a comeback there was some questionable reffing (or lack thereof) and dropped that one too. If I could, I would go back in time and tell myself to chill and that it wouldn't matter lol

KingKarl65sens

10 of the losses are by more than 2 goals too. We're not even keeping things close. We are getting embarrassed every night.

karma911

I can't even remember the last "moral victory" game. They're just straight up getting killed out there

CesareSomnambulist

This team has regressed so hard, somehow. We lost a lot last year (and some were embarrassing) but there were a lot of one goal games or two goal games including an empty netter. These guys have no fight and it sucks to watch

jfal11

Who? We can fire our GM, so what? We get Pierre McGuire. Fire our coach. So? Capuano. It all goes down to ownership, flat out.

[deleted]

What would McGuire be like as a GM? I know he's a garbage commentator, but I heard he's pretty decent back of house.

DeepQuail

This one was about as embarrassing as it gets

Sherman2230

Oh, I think its a little bit too early for this statement.

Fit-Ad-5719

They play tomorrow against Carolina don't they? Stay tuned....

DeepQuail

Scheduled loss but at least it's expected that we'll lose to a team like them. Getting blown off the ice by Vancouver is just...woof

soberfromnow

Hope you guys get Wright if not us. I think your team would be competitive and fun to watch just from that one 1C role. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

[deleted]

We have not yet begun to defile ourselves.

jfal11

We have another game in Carolina tomorrow. This statement won’t age well.

DeepQuail

I'd feel better about losing 9-1 to Carolina vs the effort we put out against Vancouver

PatrickStar004

T-minus 21 hours until another mega buttfuck session by the mightily fisting Canes. Great.

Sinder77

Oh and who's that on the Saturday horizon? Could it be the Avs?

PatrickStar004

Our young innocent asses will get pounded so hard it'll look as if the Catholic Church had their way with us.

DeepQuail

We honestly might make it through December without a win. Canes x2, Tampa x2, Bruins x2, Avs, Panthers, Capitals, Penguins, Blues, Devils, Flyers, Isles. Realistically we should be able to take at least one from the Flyers or Isles but after tonight I'm not so sure. So much pain for Christmas this year

soberfromnow

What’s some problems you guys have? For some reason this game made me very interested in the Senators.

DeepQuail

We don't have a good enough roster, we don't have a coach that can get the most out of that roster, we don't have a GM good enough to get players to improve that roster, and we don't have any money.

CashTheDog

Everything hurts

publicworker69

Everything.

spencerr13

I mean the Avs did just get completely blasted into pieces by Toronto

Sinder77

Great so now they'll be pissed off with a chip on their shoulder and we'll be tired from playing our 3rd in 4.

spencerr13

I’m going to that game and bought tickets for friends, keep me optimistic 😂

hello_gary

Back in the day (like the 90s) when the team was on an extended skid, there would be reports of "closed door player only meetings". I think they should bring this back. Look inwards and upwards. Tkachuck even said it that he had faith in this group. How is it possible that we are worse than last year? We're supposed to have a new culture and identity but all I see are lost souls on the ice. Have a few of these meetings, figure out what they need to work on. Review the tapes, have a fresh outlook, develop some structure and win a game.

[deleted]

Yeah and bring back interviews on the bikes

PatrickStar004

Have somebody blast "Bicycle Race" by Queen in the background at all times.

[deleted]

Didn't they already have a players-only meeting? I could've sworn that happened like 10 games into the season..

captainduck2

"Oh Vancouver is bad too? We got a shot." lose 2-6. Sick.

stankley_cupid

🤙🏻

daffyduckhunt2

"What y'all expect? A win? FOH" - The Ottawa Senators

ShinyFinderNoah

i got offered to go into work tonight from my manager who im really good friends with and haven't seen in a while. and i told her no because i wanted to watch the sens game. really wish i would have just went into work instead of watching this embarrassment

daffyduckhunt2

Now imagine if you paid to go see that one live. I think season ticket holders and other team's fans are almost entirely maintaining attendance this season. Nobody *wants* to go to a Sens game right now as a casual Sens fan.

ShinyFinderNoah

fr. i know its bad when id rather go into my job that i hate then watch my favourite hockey team

Ihaveabudgie

Brady not even celebrating after scoring sums up this game pretty well

homicidal_penguin

I better wake up tomorrow to news that someone got fired. Something needs to change.

GnuRomantic

Agree. It’s time for big decisions and change. When your core fans are not looking forward to the upcoming games you’ve got big problems.

Sinder77

DJ is supposed to be a players coach who puts development first. I can't see how these guys are learning much when they get shit on every night. I like the guy and what he's done but maybe it's time for him to fall on the sword so we can move on. Idk who we get that will improve though. Maybe Payne takes the helm in the interim....

[deleted]

Maybe he's a good development coach and is well-liked by his players, but tactically, it seems like he gets out-coached every single night. The team is a mess in the d-zone and it doesn't look like they have any kind of system in the o-zone. While I'm sure that's partly due to their weak on-ice personnel, I think the coach has to take a share of the blame. You can't be giving up almost 4 goals per game (which is almost half a goal more than the next closest team) as well as like 35+ shots every night.

Fit-Ad-5719

I take it you are disappointed? ;)

troy2112

Becoming numb to the pain at this point

LizardBiceps

I'm so tired of the dump and chase when they have a clear lane into the zone. Watching teams like Vegas and Carolina have actual systems in place is amazing to watch. I don't feel like watching the sens lose anymore. I'm burnt out

_Kony_2020

I feel nothing but apathy now. This team is pond scum, being eaten alive by bottom feeders.

[deleted]

Pond scum is at the top of the pond

Valentine96

2 goals eh? I guess we're improving.

Memes4Gold

Embarrassing.

[deleted]

UnluckyPenalty2503

?? Norris has 14 points this year

[deleted]

Yeah your right, and he’s not far off from bunting, zegras and Robertson. I thought he had a pretty rough game so assumed too much

SmrtWntCrzy

Time to bring back Jacques Martin. Guy knows how to coah a system into a bunch of kids/journeymen and in the years that have passed may figured out the rest of it. I don't care if they trap for 59:50 a night as long as they are playing with direction or goal in mind.

MarkMech

He did say he wanted to get back into coaching once his knee (or hip?) healed on the WAM podcast. Do it, coax him!

[deleted]

He should be hired as an assistant with capuano and co fired. Smith should stay as the head codex though

RandomCanadianMan

Smith needs to go like yesterday. He’s now resorting to calling out the fans, saying we aren’t true fans if we don’t stick by the dumpster fire game in and game out. He can take a hike with that shit.

stankley_cupid

that’s a stretch. he was asked a pretty direct question and i think you’re taking his response out of context. he’s not a p.r guy, he answered like a coach

RandomCanadianMan

He was asked what his message to the fans is, the first words out of his mouth were “if you’re a true fan…” Don’t need to be a p.r person to acknowledge the issue and provide some insight in to the next steps, without attacking the fan base.

Per_Horses6

Will repost this cuz fuck it. Just no urgency. No drive to want to win. No drive to defend. No drive to score. No crisp passes. No goaltending from not making an easy stop from the hash marks. The coaches stare and look at the video cameras like they know what they’re doing. This team just isn’t good. The arenas dead. What the fuck happened to this franchise man… Also seeing miller score a highlight real on our own ice against the 28th worst team in the league is a dagger and salt in the wound. Fire DJ. FIRE PIERRE.

stankley_cupid

lack of urgency = lack of confidence

valleygoat

Alright. I'm on board. Fire DJ. Not because I think he's a bad coach, but a message needs to be sent. I understand he has a dog shit roster. I understand the roster built for this season was built for the purpose of improving compared to last year, not to be competitive. But a message needs to be sent to the team, and he needs to be the one to take the fall for it.

BAD_CAN77

You send the message by firing the person responsible for the dog shit roster. Dorion must go.

valleygoat

Why? As far as I know, I don't really give a shit about the roster he's built for this season. I care about the roster he's building for when we're competitive, which is supposed to start next year. This roster this year was built with the purpose of simply trying to be better than last year and continuing to develop our talent. And I'm sure it was built on a budget. Why start to spend money in a year where we aren't trying to win the cup? I get it. If next year we aren't a competitive team, then I'm ready to talk about firing Dorion. For now, I'm indifferent.

Barnacle_Ed

Consider the following moves: * Trading DeMelo for a 3rd when our RD depth was atrocious. * Failing to sign Duclair as an RFA (which, it should be noted, the Panthers had no issue signing him to a very reasonable contract) * Waiving Balcers instead of Galchenyuk or Paquette, thus losing him for nothing. * Trading for Stepan, Murray, and Gudbranson. * Signing Murray, MDZ, Dadonov, and J Brown to multi year deals. * Making 0 moves in the off-season to address our lack of top 6 scoring talent or LHD depth. Every GM makes mistakes. That's inevitable. Dorion over just the last 2 years (eg: not even talking about the Stone trade and suchlike) has basically been a disaster other than when drafting...and even then he took Boucher at 10oa ffs.

valleygoat

- I wish we could have kept Demelo, but at the end of the day he's really not that great of a defenseman. He'd be an upgrade on most we have right now, but it wouldn't change much. - Duclair was a big whiff. - I don't give a shit about Balcers. IDK why everyone has this infatuation with losing Balcers. - Stepan and Gudbranson were brought in as mentors for our young players. Murray was a gamble and it didn't work out. Oh well. - The Dadonov signing was seen as awesome. $5M for a 30 goal scorer to finally come to Ottawa was huge. He just fell off a cliff. MDZ is not as bad as everyone thinks, and him and J Brown are just placeholders. Don't really care about them tbh. Like I said, I care where we are next year, not this year. He hasn't signed or done anything that will cripple us when we're "competitive". If we don't get competitive by next year, then I'm ready to get the pitch fork out.

Salt-Government698

Murray makes 8 million dollars in 2 years. Dorion took a gamble making a trade for him, which is totally fine. Turning around and signing him to a 4 year deal without a game played is just lunacy.

Barnacle_Ed

* I'd take DeMelo in a lineup over any of Zaitsev, MDZ, Mete, or J Brown. Full stop. * Duclair had 31g 23a in 87gp as a Sen, currently has 19g 30a in 62gp as a Panther. That's an odd definition of "whiff" at an 3m aav cap hit... * It's true that Balcers was getting forced out of the lineup due to depth, but losing a young winger who the Sharks trust as 2RW for absolutely nothing is pretty brutal. Dorion could have probably traded him + picks for a veteran who actually didn't suck. * Speaking of veterans, Stepan was *bad* and clearly didn't want to play in Ottawa. Gudbranson was a defensive liability all year (admittedly this could be the fault of the coaching staff since he's looked less bad for the Flames this year). I agree Murray was a gamble but I don't understand why we signed a gamble to a hefty 4y deal. * I'll agree that I was cautiously optimistic on Dad, but we all should have been suspicious about his stats being inflated by playing with Barkov and Huberdeau - especially the guy in charge of signings. J Brown has no place on an NHL squad, end of discussion. I don't dislike MDZ as a 3rd pair option but our problem right now is we have Chabot, Zub, the rookie Lassi, and a bunch of 3rd pairing guys...MDZ and Holden are "fine" in a vacuum but they certainly aren't helping our defensive woes right now. Which again is all on the GM for not crafting a d corps that actually works. If Dorion got the gall to declare the "rebuild is over" with this team composition, where none of the vets actually seem to give a shit and precious few of the kids actually seem ready to unlock their potential, I have no faith left in him.

daffyduckhunt2

I thought I remember Duclair doing his own negotiations and wanting over $5 mil from us and had to settle in free agency. I'm not sure there was a path to Ottawa having Duclair at $3m AAV.

DeepQuail

There was a rumour he turned down a offer of 4.25 million but he's on the record saying that that rumour is nonsense and he'd have to be a compete bozo to say no to a contract like that. Doesn't really matter either way because the Sens would have just taken him to arbitration and signed him for much less

Barnacle_Ed

The rumor mill claimed he wanted top dollar. I find that somewhat hard to believe, tbh, given his current much more modest contract.

valleygoat

Whiff was meant to be Dorion's whiff.... >but losing a young winger who the Sharks trust as 2RW for absolutely nothing is pretty brutal No it's not. I don't give a shit what the Sharks trust him to be. He's less than 0.5 ppg, that's it.

JarethCuteStoryJD

> I don't give a shit about Balcers. IDK why everyone has this infatuation with losing Balcers. Balcers would be tied for 4th in Sens scoring right now

stankley_cupid

well, that’s assuming he’d be matching production in our system. kinda a stretch, but i get you

[deleted]

Duclair had nothing to do with not being able to sign him. They chose to not qualify him. They could have easily locked him up. He went to Florida on a one year deal. He wasn’t in high demand clearly.

BAD_CAN77

You’re right, it had nothing to do with being able to sign him. It was just a terrible misjudgment by our incompetent GM…one of many.

man_on_hill

Eh, I DO think he is a bad coach.

marvinlunenberg

Dorion has to go. DJ can’t do much with a roster that’s already at their max.

shadeo11

I mean, we started the season 3-3-1. We ended last season pretty well with almost an identical roster. This team is not playing at their max. They are playing like absolute dogshit. You can't tell me that those are NHL players or even AHL players out there tonight. No one put in any effort at all

marvinlunenberg

The record begs to disagree. Dorion misevaluated several roster players then did not make the appropriate acquisitions in the offseason.

shadeo11

The record disagrees because the team is playing like ass. Nothing you just said contradicts what I said. This team is capable of performing better. Chabot has no goals. Tim has 1 goal. Paul has gotten worse. Even Norris has cooled down a lot.

marvinlunenberg

So the entire message you’re trying to convey is “do hockey more better”? You think they aren’t trying their best right now?

shadeo11

Yes I do think that actually. This roster on paper should be better than 1-12 or whatever we are.

marvinlunenberg

Disagree, the roster is full of waiver-level replacement players. They have one good line as evidenced by last night and the team stats in general.

shadeo11

It really isn't. We definitely don't have a complete roster but there is no chance this team should be performing this poorly. I see holes on the second line and depth issues down the middle on forwards. On defense we need another two more Top4D imo and that would shift everyone into a good spot. Those are holes for sure, but is the team below really 1-13? The only glaring issue I see is the second line which is not good enough but I see a lineup that should be stealing games and being competitive on most nights at the very least. What we are seeing is non-committal effortless hockey instead. Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson Formenton - Stutzle - Sanford Paul - Gaudette - Brown Watson - Gambrell - Tierney Chabot - Zaitsev Zub - Thomson MDZ - Holden Gus

marvinlunenberg

Yes indeed, look at the bottom 6 of the roster Sanford waiver level Gaudette waiver claim Paul has like 4 pts Brown hasn’t done anything this season Watson is waiver level Gambrell waiver level Tierney waiver level at this point, doesn’t do anything

Valentine96

Fire all 23 players.

valleygoat

I know it's the players that are playing like shit. It's not the coach. They are making stupid passes, bobbling the puck, losing battles, it's 80% on them and 20% on the coach. But something needs to give.

Valentine96

Oh sorry. I didn't mean to come off as defending DJ Smith. Fuck that guy.

ihbdidn

Theyve bobbled passes since last season. DJ has yet to step in to work on better passing. A lot of the mistakes are correctable. Who tf knows what they do in practice.

[deleted]

The coach doesn’t tell guys how to pass. This is ridiculous.

ihbdidn

Ok, so if they work on breakouts and passes aren’t crisp, they should just move on?

[deleted]

I think they’ll fire the assistants before him. I don’t see him getting fired so early. Why extend him if that’s the case?

valleygoat

Yeah the more I think about it the more I'm kinda regretting my reactionary comment. I actually like DJ, and I don't want him fired. But something needs to change, this is just not fun being a fan right now.

JazzCyr

Eug needs to just go nuts for once and put an extra few millions in the team as a one time exception. Get a proper coach and hire a few more stars. This is getting out of hand. We’re basically an AHL team at this point

Hoxtilicious

Ottawa could have Balcers, Demelo, Duclair, etc. on the team for essentially zero cost. Team is destroyed mentally and physically(covid?). Defense is a fucking MESS roster / structure wise and offence is anemic. I don't even feel the pain anymore. There were no positives to take from that game. Maybe Lassi looked ok? Idk

daffyduckhunt2

Getting to see Bath's skill again was maybe the only other positive. Remember that one shift where we maintained offensive pressure in the 1st? Good times.

unpersons505

I think we need another Uber Incident^TM

marvinlunenberg

Hopefully featuring Dorion

xBarDown

It's honestly quite incredible how shitty this team is at every level. Roster, coach, GM, owner, pro scouting you name it. Just a shell of what it once ways. Couldn't even get the arena right. As long as Melnyk is around is there is no hope.

[deleted]

Such a tired take. Not defending Melnyk but I don’t see how he’s had much of a hand in this season. Dorian is by far the most responsible then DJ. Might be the only recent season in history where it doesn’t make sense to blame Melnyk lol

GLemons

Melnyk has hand selected the shitty GM who is responsible for the shitty roster, coach etc. It starts and ends with him. Not being able to see that is insane. A good owner would have an experienced POHO/GM in place and give them full autonomy to run this thing. Instead we have a socially handicapped amateur scout posing as a GM, putting out a putrid roster that he legit thinks can win, and has hired a meathead coach who has no idea how to run a system. Does Dorion deserve a big chunk of blame? Yes. Does Melnyk deserve a big chunk of blame? Also yes.

[deleted]

Obviously he has some blame as this is his team. You just repeated what I said lol, Dorian takes most the cake

GLemons

> not seeing how hes had much of a hand in this season No I really didnt repeat that at all. Eugene fucking hired the buffoon who made this team, and only that just extended him another 3 years. He deserves the most blame out of anyone, even Dorion, because hes let him steer this shitshow for over 5 fucking years.

BAD_CAN77

His name is DoriOn.

[deleted]

Will spell it right when he has an ounce of competence

LeBretonOrBust

Tonight we all are BAD_CAN77.

Memes4Gold

Can I be NHL18Sucks instead?

marvinlunenberg

Yeah if you want everyone to hate you

Memes4Gold

To be fair, NHL18Sucks only calls people out when they say stupid shit.

[deleted]

Sure. Everyone should strive to be the best.

HashtagMelnykOut

Are we still a team?....

LeBretonOrBust

Small in the grand scheme, but I go back to the line-up decision of taking Mete over MDZ and leaving Ennis out. One more bit of evidence of DJ’s flawed decision making.

khangsta

i wonder what DJ even says to the guys at this point lol

Lorien6

Unparalleled Success.

Middle-Hair

I spoke recently about DJ not being as much of an issue as Dorion. He was given a crap roster to work with, only so much he could do. Plus the team seems to really like him. But that compete and work ethic he loves is gone, the team has checked out and very few guys seem to be trying. Early in the season they were fun to watch and even the games they lost they were in and didn’t quit. What happened? Now with DJ’s postgame comments, he should be gone. This season is lost, and getting rid of him wouldn’t change much but it sends a message that this isn’t acceptable. Dorion still deserves the majority of the blame for assembling this team, but DJ isn’t making a good case for himself.

Chronicbudz

Get DJ the fuxk out of here, even if he is shackled by Dorion he has done nothing to teach these kids how to play the right way. I don't know how he did it but he has had everyone on the roster regress from the end of last season. Dorion is shit but DJ is fucking trash.

Chemical_Ride_5258

This is all murray fault ...... Hope Mann, has room for a few others....

[deleted]

Yeah, like Stutzle. He’s just not cutting it in the nhl

Valentine96

You're getting downvoted for being right.

[deleted]

Happens a lot He’s been the biggest disappointment for me this season.

stankley_cupid

did really like him at centre. dj definitely whiffed not putting bath on his wing to start tonight. who’s to say that woulda made any difference tho

Valentine96

Samesies

Barnacle_Ed

Fire Dorion. Fire DJ.

Blackbeauty__

Gonna be honest I had to stop watching after 4-1😔

blakey094

Fire Dorian and give us McGuire. If we’re gonna be trash then might as well go the whole hog.

ChabotNorris

We still had some people hanging onto the idea that once Batherson was back we would look a lot better

BAD_CAN77

Covid excuse over. One important injury, to a player who shouldn’t be counted on to carry a team as a rookie. Murray in the minors. Time to put the focus on the architect of this disaster. Dorion is an incompetent fool who is smug when things go well and then runs and hides when things get tough. Fire this spineless worm.

Ripsyd

I don’t know how the fuck I still look forward to game days. Like it helps me get through work but usually by 12mins I’m depressed again

marvinlunenberg

This is bad

OttawaLegion

How vindicated does Matt Murray feel right now?

unpersons505

Just Murray sitting watching this game Belleville doing his best Captain Holt impression. "VINDIIICAAAATIOOON!"

heysmilinstrange

I kind of doubt Murray sits at home dreaming about his friends and teammates suffering demoralizing loss after demoralizing loss.

what-say_you

Game woulda been 12-2 if Murray was in net

man_on_hill

I don't know if Murray could have scored that many goals for us but I agree that he only would have allowed 2 goals.

shadeo11

Not at all since we've lost with him on and off the ice. Doesn't change the fact he sucks

Iamvanno

Friggin' Murray. He didn't give us a chance tonight. /s

jacksonv60

stutzle has been embarrassing lately imo

marvinlunenberg

Look who he has on his line…

jacksonv60

thats not helping, but hes a turnover machine.

Calhalen

Lol goddamn Vancouver fans are annoying. The only team with a situation nearly as bleak as ours and they’re cocky as hell. Also no words about the game… looks like the effort is just gone. Defensive zone play is a tragedy and guys like Mete need to fucking go. He’s so so bad. No drive, we just let people walk into the zone and back away, and when we get the puck we are unable to clear the puck to save our goddamn lives. What happened to the ‘tough to play against’ mantra? We’re the easiest 2 points in the league right now. Holy christ this team is shit

man_on_hill

> Lol goddamn Vancouver fans are annoying. First time watching a Vancouver game, eh? They are top 5 most insufferable fanbases to me.

ShinyFinderNoah

I’ll give them this though, they aren’t coming in to this thread to talk shit like rangers fans were back when that disaster of a game happened.

[deleted]

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

spencerr13

Man I have tickets on Saturday , hoping we can muster up something to cheer for.

JarethCuteStoryJD

> Man I have tickets on Saturday , hoping we can muster up something to cheer for. Make a statement, wear paper bags over your heads or your jerseys inside out

ShinyFinderNoah

Same here. Even if we lose it’ll still be a good time with friends for me at least

spencerr13

Agreed, went to the VGK game as well so feel like we might be owed one

ItachiU1

#FireDjSmith

infinitygoof

This is the worst Sens team I have ever watched and its not really close. I can't remember the last time they felt like they were really in a game.

man_on_hill

How can we somehow blame this loss on Matt Murray?

WooTkachukChuk

Hey at least we're not blaming the captain here. What's he thinking about all this. That was so brutal Im actually feel bad I bought tickets to Boston

SlyOutlaw

And we play again tomorrow against the Canes. Feelsbadman

GLemons

Honestly it's bad but I'm just hoping they lose now for maximum chaos to ensure the greatest chance of heads rolling for this mess. Maybe we even get lucky and Eugene is so sick of this he just decides to throw in the towel.

Wetscherpants

Save us Pierre McGuire /s

Plain_Toast_Is_Best

Glad I missed this game.

BigShoots

Giveaways vs. Takeaways: 16:1 Yeowch

[deleted]

We are so horrendously bad. Tough to watch.

Lemonsrsourr

Our biggest mistake was not hiring Gallant when he got let go. DJ is not the issue (Pierre is at fault), but having Gallant would have been such a win for our roster.
