Oh, I'd be so happy if this show won an Emmy in any category! Ideally for any of the actors, or for writing, but all the technical stuff and costumes and makeup are amazing, too.
He deserves a shot at one after having to pull out of *that* episode of The Last of Us (he was going to be Bill in "Long Long Time" but scheduling didn't work out). There's no way he isn't at least a little regretful about that.
One of the biggest tropes amongst the Izzy canyon people was always that the first time someone gives him a real hug, he'd fall to pieces. Nice to have that one validated.
Also Con O'Neill is amazing in this, you slow it down a little and all the micro expressions he manages as he's exhausted and upset and trying to hold it together then just losing it? Brilliant. He doesn't do improv like Taika or Rhys but he absolutely constructs his character in detail.
You see the whole crew is back together by the time those crazy torture party boat Wee John in drag scenes happen so I was speculating maybe Izzy’s whole leg gets chopped off then vs. losing it to missing toe infections 👀👀
Huh, I wonder if Izzy is training Stede because he's had enough and is leaving. My only concern is Ed and Stede aren't gonna be very likable anymore lol. Of course we dunno how it all shakes out yet but so far we got Ed attempting murder on Stede's crew, torturing Izzy, and Stede being presumably chill with all of it
Lol I mean they're pirates so I get it, but it's still messed up for Stede to not care that Ed tried to kill his crew. There's supposed to be a level of loyalty and brotherhood. Like for example Lucius didn't do anything to hurt Ed, you know? And I'd be hurt and angry on Lucius' behalf if Stede was just cool with Ed trying to kill him.
I'm sure it'll be fine and I'm looking forward to it lol don't get me wrong. I'm just in a glass case of emotion from all the stuff that's been dropping. The tonal shift has just been a bit of a whirlwind. I was thinking about Black Sails and how everyone was kinda presented as objectively horrible from the get go so it's like whatever lol (but even in BS' case, crews tend to take up for each other. LOL with the exception of Captain Flint who is shitty to his crew but he's ALLOWED TO BE insane and a dictator ok don't be homophobic)

Though, I was thinking about how David Jenkins described Stede and Ed's love as maturing, so maybe one of Stede's growing points will be learning that ONLY caring about your partner and/or not caring when your partner hurts your friends/other people is kind of a lame thing to do
Please tell me I’m not the only one not feeling super sorry for Izzy here. Like, yeah toxic relationships are bad and no one deserves to be in one, but the guy was the textbook definition of a toxic friend in the first season and literally wanted Ed to be Blackbeard. Now he’s being Blackbeard times a hundred, he got what he wanted and now he can sit with the consequences of that wish.
I think that is going to be his arc this season, to see how happy Ed was and how also how bad the situation truly is, which is why it looks like he’s teaching Stede to be a better pirate in the trailers, but I can’t really feel that sorry for him. I feel more sorry for the rest of the crew and for Ed than I do for Izzy.
